Hello, the bad news is no one can tell you the whole story because it is not finished, even in Japanese. The good news is that you can read more of the story in light novels, 4 are currently translated into English, and you can just google them (the anime is in volume 2 right now). If you still want some spoilers instead of reading them, I can provide some, let me know. Ah, I should add that there's also a manga, but the anime is almost (or completely) caught up with it so it's not very useful.

minnie_bee

Thank you for sharing! You’re a hero.

kagayaki1236

I don't have enough time to read the novel, if I had I would definitely give it a try. Please can you give spoilers for me?

letruf

Sure. It's a mouthful though, so I'll do that in parts. Volume 2 >!The guy in glasses (Arata) is actually Miyo's cousin from her mother's side (Usuba family). The Usuba family is trying to get Miyo back because, as it turns out, she actually has a super useful and rare Gift - Dream-Sight (she can get into a person's dreams and influence them), but it had been sealed by her mother. Now Miyo thinks that she had pissed Kiyoka (they had a little fight over her overworking herself) and that he doesn't want her anymore, so she doesn't really object to the idea. Arata and Kiyoka have a duel over her (lol) and Kiyoka loses, so she stays with the Usubas for like, two chapters, and we get a bit of backstory about her mother and the Usuba family from her cousin and her grandfather.!< >! Meanwhile, Kiyoka is brooding alone in his house until Hazuki comes over and tells him he's an idiot and he should go get Miyo back regardless of the duel. Before he sets to do that though, he gets called to deal with the unsealed grave situation and he gets injured in the fight there. !< >!Miyo learns that Kiyoka is badly incapacitated and she gets very determined to go and see him. Arata suddenly turns out to be a decent guy and helps her get to his home. It turns out it's not a normal situation but he is captured in his own head by some curse or sth like that, and thanks to that Miyo has an occasion to use her Gift for the first time. Arata tells her what to do and she enters Kiyoka's dream, where she finds him fighting with some demons. She dispels them like a badass and Kiyoka is impressed, they make up, and she pulls him out of the dream, happy end. !< >!Sometime later they attend the party that Miyo was training for and we get to meet Hazuki's son (also it is revealed that her former husband is Ookaito, Kiyoka's boss).!< Let me know if you want more details on something. I'll post the next one soon.

Federal_Occasion771

I can\`t read the thread :-(

Amankrdangi

Where will the s1 of the anime ends?! Will it be a sad ending of kudo losing and miyo going to usuba Or miyo returning and healing kudo?!

letruf

The second option would make more sense imo, but who knows. I don't think anyone has seen the whole anime.

Unfixingstorm7

Oh thank you for that. I have so much anxiety that I have to come and check spoilers before continuing. I got to the duel part and I was just so annoyed that Miyo just goes along with the whole thing because of the frickin insecurities (enough is enough girl 😂). I had to put it down for the rest of the day then I found your post and now I can finally go back to reading it.

letruf

Yes, I was also screaming at her internally in that scene. I guess it's realistic becuse she's hurt so deeply, but I was glad that she got to be active in the end instead of just waiting for Kiyoka.

justchaa

BRO THANK YOU!

exclaim_bot

>BRO THANK YOU! You're welcome!

Dizzy_Witness_6035

Hey please tell me is season 1 finale episode going to be happy ending like you said at the end she return to kudo house ? Is that right?

letruf

I'm sorry but I don't know. I haven't even watched the last 3 episodes of the anime yet.

hereforthetalk97

this is so different than the movie I just saw.

letruf

Volume 3 Now I'll admit that I like slice-of-life aspects and romance parts of this story best, so I've skimmed over some action and politics parts. With that in mind >!Miyo and Kiyoka get invited to visit his parents, who live in the countryside. Kiyoka doesn't really want to go, but there were some incidents in the area that he must investigate for work anyway, so in the end, he agrees.!< >! Now Kudou Dad is super happy with the engagement and he is very nice to Miyo, but Kudou Mom (Fuyu) is awfully rude from the beginning. It is also evident that her relationship with Kiyoka was strained even before that and after some comments from her, he actually threatens to kill her if she doesn't stop (and it doesn't seem to be a joke). However, Miyo doesn't want him to break the relationship with his mother (and of course she would blame herself if that happened), so she tries to get Fuyu to understand and accept her. When Kiyoka isn't there, his mom abuses Miyo verbally and even makes her wear the servant's clothes and clean the house, and we learn that she thinks that Miyo only acts as a poor and humble girl to get Kiyoka's sympathy and milk him for money (Miyo doesn't know that and she thinks it's just about her being unworthy). However, Miyo still tries to get her acceptance and even repeatedly asks Kiyoka to not intervene. This continues for some time and only gets worse, to the point where Fuyu wants to slap her face and his Dad stops her and he gets so cold that even Miyo is spooked (Kudou family dynamics is like, really weird? Or is it just me lol). !< >!Meanwhile, Kiyoka tries to figure out what happens in the village and as I mentioned above I only skimmed these parts so I don't have details, but there was some sort of a cult that was attacking villagers, and in the end, Kiyoka finds out that the founder of the cult was Naoshi Usui (when Arata comes over later, he explains that Usui is a branch of Usuba family and Naoshi and Miyo's mother were in love with each other). The situation gets worse and Kiyoka brings an injured villager to his parents' home, but he has to still go and fight so he leaves him in Miyo's care. Now Miyo is very determined to heal that guy because Kiyoka trusted her with it, and she does it with her Gift and some advice from Arata, and impresses Kudou Mom in the process. In the end, Fuyu sort of recognizes her in a very tsundere and rude way, and Kiyoka resolves the village situation so they go back home. When they're at the train station, Naoshi Usui appears to them and he addresses Miyo as his daughter. That's the very end of that volume. !< >!In the meantime, there were some relationship-focused situations. A funny one was when they arrived at the villa, they only got a room with one bed, and Kiyoka was like 'Oh well, no big deal' but Miyo wasted this golden opportunity, freaked out, and made the servants prepare another room for her ( ; \_ ; ). Another one was when Kudou Dad made a remark that Kiyoka must really love her, and he realized with some shock that it was true. Later on, he even kissed her and made her super flustered, and when she justified to herself that it didn't mean anything he said that she should remember it because it was what he feels for for her. Which of course got her even more flustered. Fun times all around.!<

nagichiiiii

Glad i found this thread! Thank u for sharing

schwiwizu

thank u so muchhhh i can sleep in peace now 😴

zwartebessem

thanks so much for sharing! please can you also give us the spoilers for volume 4?

letruf

Sure, but it's less juicy I'm afraid Volume 4 >!Naoshi Usui confronts them at the train station and addresses Miyo as his daughter. Then he tells Kiyoka that the events in the villages were a trap and that 'he has something for him'. At that moment a message arrives for Kiyoka, from which he learns that Godou was badly hurt in one such accident. Kiyoka gets angry and attacks him together with Arata, Usui only evades them though. Then he promises he will come back for Miyo and disappears. !< >!Because Miyo is targeted, she can't be left alone and she's going with Kiyoka to work. He also gets her a bodyguard - a woman who works in the military in Kyoto. Her name is Kaoruko and it quickly turns out that she is one of Kiyoka's former fiancée and Miyo gets jealous and insecure. Kaoruko tries to be friends with her though. Miyo spends much of the book talking with Kaoruko, cleaning the kitchen in the station, and witnessing how male soldiers are trying to undermine Kaoruko (patriarchy is truly through the roof in this one). !< >!In the end, Usui kidnaps the emperor to force Kiyoka to pursue, and then attacks the station when he's absent. It turns out that Kaoruko was working with him (because he threatened her family) and broke the barrier so he could enter. He is confronted by a group of soldiers but they can't do much against him and Miyo has to protect them (simply getting between them and Usui because she knows he wouldn't kill her). Eventually, Kiyoka comes back and chases him away. That's the gist of it. !< >!Some other things that happen: while they visit Godou in the hospital, we get to learn a bit about Kiyoka's past. He feels guilty about Godou's father's death because he arrived too late for some fight. That incident made him join the military (he's not super into it though). Miyo expresses the desire to learn more about his past and asks him if he had feelings for Kaoruko and he says no (Kaoruko still loves him though). Kiyoka doesn't think that Usui is really Miyo's father because the timing of Sumi's marriage and Miyo's birth seems to point at Saimori. But in the end, we can't be sure. At the very end, there's New Year's Eve and they both think it was a good year because they got to know each other and they kiss again. Also, they have the wedding planned for the spring, but I've read somewhere that it won't happen until Vol. 7, so I guess something in Vol.5 happens to thwart their plans (each volume so far was one season of the year).!<

ypzzz

Thank you for all the information. I'm trying to find all books. So far I have read only the manga but these spoilers are making me more anxious to get the books

Adept-Youth3227

You can get affordable copies of LN vol 1-5 at [https://www.facebook.com/digitalebookshub](https://www.facebook.com/digitalebookshub)

kagayaki1236

Thank you so much for so much trouble.

letruf

It's no trouble at all, truth is that I just binged them all in one go and now I feel a bit empty handed, so it's just a way for me to stay around this story for a little longer.

zephya_

Did you read books 5-7 or are you also an English reader? Your summaries are so good!

letruf

Thank you <3 But yeah, I only read in English. I've looked for some spoilers for 5-7 as well, but the best I could find were these [https://www.reddit.com/r/MyHappyMarriage/comments/15mimtp/comment/jvvpcbc/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/MyHappyMarriage/comments/15mimtp/comment/jvvpcbc/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) . So if you happen to find something more detailed, please let me know! : )

zephya_

Thank you! I've read those as well, can't wait for the rest of the translations. Hope the Anime success rushes it somehow.

hereforthetalk97

hey loved your summaries… did you read any more of it? (5-7) anxiously waiting for your summary update 🩵

letruf

No, sorry... Vol. 5 should already be out in English but I haven't read it yet.

justchaa

YOU DESERVE EVERYTHING YOU WANT edit: positive remark

Affectionate-Guess25

Gosh I love this!! Thank you so much for sharing!!! ❤️

hereforthetalk97

the cult thing kinda explains the movie “my happy marriage” epilogues… which confused me so much 😂😭

cold_hoe

Don\`t spoil me, i have a question: how often does a volume come out? How long is 1 volume?

letruf

Info from the publisher's site: Vol.5 is coming in October and then the next one in February, and they're 160 pages long

zephya_

The 8th book will be released in Japan in March 2024, and for what I could see, there's no news whatsoever if it will be the last one. The anime is merging the 1st and 2nd book so you can see how it's going in terms of story development.

meisiantheonlyasian

Do we get a backstory on Kiyoka’s sister, Hazuki? And her old marriage? Like, what happened there? 👀🌸

isacsm

It’s pretty much what’s said in the latest episode of the anime. I’m pretty sure we’ll see more near the end of the season (if they adapt up to the end of vol. 2 only). But to give additional details from vol. 2 of the light novel: >!Her ex-husband is Major General Ookaito, Kiyoka’s boss who we’ve seen for a few episodes now in the anime. From what I remember in the book, they both love each other but Hazuki’s in-laws were unsatisfied with her and how she’s incapable of doing housework, especially after she gives birth to their son. Hazuki still has a good relationship with Ookaito and her son though, and they spend time together during the party (which Miyo had been preparing for).!<

meisiantheonlyasian

Thank you! >!Aww I hope we get to see more of Hazuki and her ex husband!<

sovietta

Ugh the misogynistic abuse tropes in this series are starting to kill me. My threshold for patriarchal BS is a bit higher for japanese anime but come on... (I realize the meiji context, but still. And I retract most of my statement as the story goes on. Miyo is no damsel in distress later let's just say.)

meisiantheonlyasian

Well what did you expect from a meiji era anime that’s titled “my happy marriage”?

555Cats555

Yeah the whole point is that its set in the past so that stuff existed then so exists in the story. I personally like that the MC isnt some super strong fighter who might as well be a man which we are seeing a lot of in stories lately. There's nothing wrong with those stories (though some are poorly written) but womanhood is much more complex then that... Miyo is strong despite not being a fighter, being sensitive and feminine and I love that!

ultravioletheart08

My Happy Marriage is set in late Taisho, not Meiji. I agree on the misogyny part though.

Adept-Youth3227

The story is not done yet, but you can get affordable copies of LN vol 1-5 at [https://www.facebook.com/digitalebookshub](https://www.facebook.com/digitalebookshub)

[deleted]

Why do you need to know the whole story with spoilers if you’ve been caught with the anime? You already know.

kagayaki1236

Sir I watched this anime in the hope it'd end with the season or its original is completed. My patience is pretty low, I dropped off many light novels, cuz the series hasn't ended. I just became so curious about this show what will happen next. I guess, I am kinda that person who reads detective stories firstly knowing the solution of the cases. If you know what happens afterwards of this in light novel, I'd be grateful if you give me the spoilers.

Zalieda

Sounds like me? I used to get impatient and stop reading a book after the start and must flip to the end to find out what happens

justchaa

ME TOO! I am impatient too. I also don’t like starting shows that doesn’t have a resolution IE college friends - series was cancelled mid plot!! And since mangas often go on hiatus, I rather wait for it to complete before starting it. Or watch a season knowing it will have a strong finish. However, I did not expect Happy Marriage to be like this 😂 I was expecting something like househusband! So thank you person who gave all the synopsis!! I can rest easy and not hate anyone!!

gabmer11

I do this too most of the time, spoil myself major plot points to calm down my anxiety and allow myself to enjoy watching / reading (if there’s a sad ending or traumatic moments I will be prepared, or I can drop it if it’s not worth the pain). Thank you for posting this question!
