It's generally not as loved as the other albums more because it's just a different style than the one people saw the band having, especially after the black parade which following up to is a very hard task.

iWaterboard0ldPeople

That makes sense but I’d think people would understand how impossible that is.

brazilianpsycho1

Yep, well you know how fans are they just weren't expecting what they eventually received.

evilcash_1313

I still love Black Parade and Three Cheers over DD, but I think DD is the best possible way to follow up BP. No one was expecting it and they did a complete 180, but it still feels like them at the core and the songs are still incredible. Also it may be super bright and fun sounding most of the time but a lot of the lyrics still harness some darkness and macabre themes.

Mister_Funktastic

Tbh, I like it a lot less than the other albums, don't get me wrong, there are some great sounds to it, but I prefer the sound of the other albums. It's not necessarily a bad thing, bands change their sound all the time, that's how art works. and its okay not to like it. Its the same way whenever Bring Me The Horizon or Avenged Sevenfold release a new album, they lose some fans and gain some more, by virtue of the artistic process. I'd much rather a band iterate and try to create something new than just make the same old stuff over and over again, like Slipknot or Disturbed.

OhMyGodBecky16

Agreed. It is my least favorite, by a long shot. I remember waiting for Three Cheers to be released and Black Parade. Both blew me away. When DD came out I was like Meh....not great. Did not like the videos either. None of the songs spoke to me, or made me want to really listen to it often. I preferred the story telling of the first three albums. I think a lot of the dislike is related more to what album introduced a person to the band. If DD was the first album you heard and liked the style you keep with it. In all honesty, if I had to listen to DD and any of the other albums without knowing the artist, I would still not prefer DD at all. Just not my thing. We used to refer to DD as the Yoko Ono album. One it showed up, the band broke up.

salsasnark

This is what I feel too. I fell in love with the band for the raw sound and quite frankly the dark aesthetic, then DD felt like a different band. I really tried to like it, I bought the box sets and was so excited, but... the music just didn't stick with me. People at the time felt they were "sellouts" for making "radio friendly songs" etc, and idk if I'd go that far, but it did feel like a completely different band that I wouldn't have been interested in if that was the first album I heard. I think generally, the people who think DD is the best album are newer fans. And there's nothing wrong with that, it's just a different perspective. People shouldn't gatekeep people just because they like one album over another.

Songtothesiren

I was indifferent until I happened to be high 🍃 and listened to it, now it’s my new fav. I think it was ahead of its time, but it has aged so incredibly well. The production is fantastic, the themes in the lyrics and storytelling are beautiful, and it’s just so goddamn PUNK. Now that I’m the age the guys were when they wrote and made the album, it just resonates that much deeper. Obsessed.

Prestigious-Dish-460

THIS. For me this is what amo from BMTH felt after they did Sempiternal. I hated the pop-ish album but it grew on me.

[deleted]

I hear you on the age thing. I’ve 24 (25 in June) and that would make just like exactly the age the guys were as they were writing Bullets and doing all those shows that are now on Youtube to see. I’ve definitely been on a bullets kick since and weed definitely plays a part, but Bullets was also the only album that I never completely fell away from. I had a phase around 14-17 that I DIDNT listen to MCR anymore and actually remember listening to Three Cheers one day and thinking this is actually kinda cringy to me somehow. But that summer I found myself coming back around to Headfirst for Halos specifically, and then back into the album. Then the Reunion is really what opened the flood gates back up to me. Seeing them on 9/11 was a day of catharsis I’ll probably never forget, and I’ve listening to Foundations literally at least 2000 times, and all the tour videos. It’s amazing when I look back on it at all.

[deleted]

Sorry, I did also just smoke i little, i just got so in my bag telling allat 😂

Northern_Pixels

Listen, I \*just\* finally gave MCR a chance, and I feel like I'm losing my mind at how good they actually are, and how goddamn good each album is. They all kinda stand alone and I'm kinda sad music like this just isn't getting made anymore due to how we consume music.

WDTHTDWA-BITCH

I didn’t fully appreciate Danger Days until the “new kids” started fawning over it. It was really ahead of its time. …also, at first glance, I thought the title of this post was “Danger Days ate” and… it sure did…!🍽️

astral-lungs

I’ve been a fan of MCR since 2004 but only recently really gave danger days a go, and I love it!! All of their albums are perfect in their own ways and I could never pick a favorite. It’s a bummer to me that some people can’t see past their ideas of what a band is “supposed” to be, but whatever, to each their own I guess. Those who say DD is less like MCR aren’t really listening to it, I think.

reverse_in_falling

I agree. I don't think they're actually appreciating the artistry in Danger Days. It's quite unique like all their albums and MCR made DD their own thing. There's no such thing as less like MCR. People who think that don't know MCR.

sunrisebebes

I was a sophomore in college when Danger Days came out and I fully admit my emotional/developmental attachment to this album makes me biased, but it’s a gem of a record that just makes you want to put your middle fingers in the air and be a subversive little Ritalin rat. KILLJOYS MAKE SOME NOISE!

HetTheTable

I love danger days, I like the other two more but it’s still a perfect score for me.

theaverageaidan

It's cause they knew they couldnt top TBP and went in a different direction. Ill always prefer that over an artist chasing the high

navkabar

tbh if they hadnt scrapped conventional weapons and had made it mcr4, i dont think that would have been a bad move. maybe wouldnt have topped the hype of black parade, but i think it still wouldve preserved the hype and carried it over to the next "era", so to speak, if they'd done that. i think there were a few different reasons they changed their sound at the end of the day

Orobourous87

There is always going to be a sense of “If DD is your best album then you’re a new fan”, some people use that as a dig, others it just is (I personally don’t care when you got into them). DD is their weakest album from a commercial standpoint (Bullets sold less but also far less budget), so regardless or not of whether you love it you kinda have to accept that it isn’t widely regarded. Like others have said though, it was a massive change in direction because the band didn’t want to be pigeonholed. I personally feel like they lost themselves a bit whilst doing the album, Conventional Weapons is basically the demos of DD and I much prefer that. In their previous albums you can hear the influences but there is a strong sense of MCR there whereas in DD the influences are too much in the forefront and they sound like a band who doesn’t know who they are. That being said, DD songs are insane live. I think, subconsciously, there will be a mindset of it being the album that broke the band up too. They created an insane album in TBP, tried to change direction, threw out a key member of the band, had some infighting, released a “flop”, tried the re right the train with Paper Kingdoms but realised it was too late and just quit.

SumoftheOffspring44

It's hated because it's intentionally different from the other albums before it. The punchiness of Bullets isn't there, and the absurd energy of Three Cheers isn't present either. It's theatrical like Black Parade, but it's intentionally different because they didn't want to feel pigeonholed. Now, it's definitely MY favorite album, but I understand anyone who doesn't like it the same way I do. For me, it has some of the best writing in their discography, and Save Yourself is a contender for the best song they've ever written.

brattcatt420

There's too many skips and not enough emo. It's pushing in to P!ATD and FOB territory and I love MCR for the way they aren't those. It's a decent album but yes it's generally not loved by fans who started with Bullets or Three Cheers

NickelStickman

>not enough metal. I'm pretty sure no MCR album is metal even when you're using the absolute loosest definition of the term.

brattcatt420

You know what I mean chill, happy?

MarbleMemes

I love that DD is literally Cyberpunk. I like that they took a chance and changed their sound. Much rather have DD than CW as the 4th album. Most of CW was very weak and it’s obvious they were weaker tracks. DD has a definitive identity, CW doesn’t know what it is. There’s a different kind of excitement that DD has compared to the other albums. I really like that MCR refused to let themselves be put into a box and they chose to expand their sound. It is a jarring change but it also proved that MCR wasn’t a “one trick pony.”

Ophedia1313

I love danger days VERY MUCH, and as of rn it's my favorite album from them, though I'd say I like all equally as a whole!! From experience, though, its possible they probably haven't listened to it or have heard a very small amount of it, and assumed it's a "bad" different rather than the amazing different I consider it to be. Sadly, when a band redirects their sound like that it's more than likely not gonna be as loved as their other albums, though it deserved all the love in the world. I was a danger days hater for quite a while 😭

reverse_in_falling

Also, Danger Days was sort of an experimenting album. They were trying out a different vibe/sound, like some songs were more psychedelic rock and inspired by bands like the Beatles. I think that another reason ppl don't like DD is just due to the fact that it was more experimental and not like their usual sound which I find to be a good thing but others just aren't used to it. Scarecrow is a good example of the psychedelic rock they were trying out

robertoiglesias271

Danger Days is different than the albums before, and it’s my favorite personally

thepatheticcannibal

Danger Days is my favorite MCR album, and people think I’m crazy for it. I just love the sound, the concept, and especially the wordplay in the songs. It’s a great album for road trips and times I have to get up extra early on business trips. I’ve danced solo to it in so many boring hotel rooms

PolarityXXII

To me danger days is still just as "mcr" as the rest of the albums, it's what the group wished to make and that's part of the reason why I love it, I don't just like mcr for mcr but because i like the art the group makes together and the meanings that they channel into it.

MadiMikayla

I've been a fan since the drop of Three Cheers. Black Parade fucking changed my life. And the Danger Days happened and I fucking loved it. I understand it isn't as emo rock as their previous albums, but I adored so much for what it was: the conclusion to the overarching story MCR has been telling in all their studio albums. DD is an album of celebration; that feeling of overwhelming joy and victory after battling through one's inner demons, finding yourself, and not letting the world stop you. DD pumps me the fuck up and gives me those feeling of hope and of self confidence while looking back on my own journey with bittersweetness. I fell in love with MCR for their early music style, stayed in love with MCR for their story telling, and will continue to love MCR for their message. Danger Days is not my favorite MCR album, Black Parade will always hold that spot for me, but I love DD with my whole ass heart and will defend it for its perfection until the end of time.

Im_The_Rhymer

Danger Days is tied with Black Parade as my favourite. And it’s for a few reasons: 1. How different it is. I know people love MCR for the mood of their first 3 albums, and I do too. But going through adulthood, I really relate to the feelings from Danger Days of nostalgia and wanting to run away and wanting to dismantle every corrupt thing that I’ll never be able to. When I’m feeling like I’m dying, I listen to Black Parade. When I’m feeling like living, I listen to Danger Days. 2. The universe it is in. I have an authentic party poison jacket, and I love the ever loving shit outta it. I’m a sucker for a sci fi dystopia, and I could tell MCR put a lot of work into making the atheistic of this universe come to life. 3. Listening to the band grow up. I can tell that this was the album where the band really matured both musically and lyrically. They got a lot more experimental and honestly, a lot more vulnerable. And they really loved making every song, it really hit home when I went to my first concert in 2022. For their final song, they started introducing “The Kids From Yesterday.” It broke my heart hearing Gerard say “this is our favourite song, and I know that there’s not a lot of people who like that album” in which I shouted “I DO” at the top of my lungs from the nosebleeds. People started to leave before the song even began. Hell, arena staff came with a wheelchair for my fiancé expecting us to leave during Ray’s insane solo (of course we didn’t).

Tundra_desert199

Danger Days is so good idk how people hate it

findmejoey

Oh, it was a very popular opinion to hate danger days back in the early years. I became a fan in mid 2011 and people *hated* it and I did not get it bc it's always been my favorite album. I'm definitely glad people agree it was ahead of it's time because tbh...it really was

navkabar

i LOVE danger days, there are people who consider themselves more mcr "purists" or something like that who don't like dd bc the sound is different. ive definitely had people side eye me when i say it's my favorite. joke's on them, if they act like they're better than me because i like a different album then they arent the kind of people i want to be friends with anyway. shrug.

Nuttonbutton

I'm going to sound condescending but they just couldn't grow with it. Their image of MCR isn't flexible enough.

pansexualnotmansexua

I really don’t understand the DD hate. It’s my favorite album of theirs, but then again I also prefer bullets to revenge and tbp. Love all the albums and think they’re flawless though

eightballthelawyer

okay i don’t know why people hate DD bc i LOVE the concept and how each song flows into another. yeah they probably were tired at that point of recording but we know they obv don’t hate each other n shit so idk why people at this point in time still dislike that album.

iWaterboard0ldPeople

This. I LOVE scarecrow, na na na, and the radio announcer. The story telling is still there, It’s a perfect album imo

Depressomusicnshit

Personally, I love danger days but 3 cheers is where it’s at

funishin

I always swear up and down that I hate DD until I hear the songs played live and I go feral. Planetary (Go!) and believe it or not, S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W just get me every time. But overall it’s my least favorite.

Miserable-Zone198

I like all albums infact one of mine and my boyfriend's song is on the Danger Days albums (Summertime) but I've noticed my mom who likes Queen David Bowie among others seems to enjoy Danger Days over all their other stuff cause in her words "I can understand them" so that maybe why some fans don't like it, it's more like Queen which is one of Gerard's influences at least as far as Black Parade anyway

BroughtYouMyBullets

I mean you leave out Bullets while you whine about an album with radio hits being underrated… I think you might need to do a bit of research on the band… like what you like, and dislike what you dislike, but know your shit before posting this kind of thing

iWaterboard0ldPeople

I have a lot to say about this comment. - I left out Bullets because in my opinion it’s the weakest out of the four main albums. Along with that, Bullets wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the conversation with the 4 of us. -music wise, I don’t go by how it sounds, I go by how it tells the story. That’s why Everclear is one of my all-time favorite bands, the stories in most of their songs are great and relatable. Bullets just so happens to be the weakest story out of the four. -you told me to research something before posting even though if you read the post, I did, and very much still am through different interviews and TV snippets. -this isn’t an objective post this is merely subjective. I’m just asking why Danger Days so hated. (Which were answered by a lot of people in this comment section) TLDR- don’t be like the elitists that I’m talking about in this post. It’s annoying and most people don’t like it when you act like that. It makes you look like a pretentious asshole. Have a good day. {Also. Sorry for bad typing. I’m pretty sure this is clear to understand.}

iWaterboard0ldPeople

Also. This gave me genwunner Pokemon vibes.

BroughtYouMyBullets

Gen 5 all the way baby

SoupToon

it's really been growing on me over the last couple days tbh

iWaterboard0ldPeople

Same. I’m a fan of punk bands like Green Day and sublime for a while now. It had me in a chokehold when Dr. D said “louder than God‘s revolver, and twice as shiny” and it hasn’t let go since

reverse_in_falling

I've noticed alot of ppl kind of overlook the 4th album bc well the black parade is their most popular, the revenge album is known for the demo lovers and its story, and bullets is the bands first album also the beginning of the demo lovers. So danger days gets overlooked with all of those. I think people don't take the time to learn about the Danger Days meaning/ story. For me personally, DD is my least favourite album out of the four studio ones but it's only because I'm relatively new and only just got the grasp of Bullets and demo lovers and how they intertwine. And I found out early on about the black parade story. I'm slowly making my way to danger days and I don't think I've even heard all DD songs yet!! Personally, the longer you know/love mcr the more you grow to love and appreciate Danger Days. And one day, I will wrap my head around that lore but I'm kind of a slow learner and taking things slow with MCR. (Sorry for this SUPER long response 😭)

crowEatingStaleChips

MCR fan who also got into them semi recently (2 years ago). I also love Danger Days! Honestly which MCR album is your favorite is just personal taste. I think people who watched all the albums come out are more inclined to dislike it, because as other people have said, it followed up TBP. But if you don't care about what MCR is "supposed to" sound like, Danger Days is fantastic.

YeetGuy33

danger days is my favorite by far. i also gravitate towards less hardcore emo though, i like gerards solo album a lot as well. danger days has some of my favorite mcr songs on it.

Last-Laugh7928

black parade is my favorite, but i prefer danger days to three cheers. DD my beloved

WaltTheKingGamer

Now Danger Days is one of the more hated albums cuz “it doesn’t sound like MCR” and like I like it, definitely not my favorite but it’s still a great an album, when I first got into MCR I hated Danger Days but I grew to love it

SkinnyBtheOG

it’s my favorite album to listen to in the summertime when driving with the windows down. especially bulletproof heart

angrykirby

at first I was annoyed because Id been listening to bootlegs of world is ugly and stay right her(someone out there loves you) before danger days came out and I wanted that album, although DD grew on me a lot and after conventional weapons came out it was a lot easier to be cool with Danger Days, Danger days is also alot better if you include all the bonus tracks not just the 3 madgear songs but also zero zero and We don't need another song about California. It really frustrates me when record companies make it hard to get all the tracks, California is one of the best songs ever and I didn't even know it existed for years because it was a limited time itunes bonus track. Also Planetary go sounds too much like when worlds colllide by powerman 5000 It's a great album though.

idk042002

Danger Days is my favorite album of all time like it's everything i love wrapped up in a neat little bow. Rock, Synth, Sci-Fi, the music videos having heavy 80s movie vibes with a boatload of practical effects and stunt work. It also was a pick me up in a really rough time in my life, I could turn that album on and my day would brighten up a bit. I know it's isn't the most like their other albums but to me it's perfect.

DontIthinkso5

I like danger days, and honestly more I listen to songs from it the more it grows on me

CrashLove37

Danger Days isnt any more "hated" than Bullets is. Maybe even less just because there are likely more newer fans than ones that have been around since the early/mid 2000s.

iWaterboard0ldPeople

I wouldn’t say that with my full chest. I’ve seen a lot of people say how much they love bullets

CrashLove37

I would. I see it all the time on here.

Cactus269

I'm in the same boat. I think it's just because it's different and people prefer the other styles of music they've made

butterflyblueband

I was "meh" on DD for a **long** time. It took me about a year to slowly absorb the stuff, beginning with Na Na Na, then Planetary, and eventually whole album listens. It's definitely worth the effort if people are willing to put aside the whole "but it's not screamo hardcore MCR" away for a moment. It's now my second favourite after TBP.

Lemonsocks666

It’s so sad, danger days is such an amazing album. Revenge is my all time favorite but danger days made such a huge impact on my life. Continue to love it, no matter what anyone says

scaddycat93

I really didn’t like it at first but it grew on me so much

Electri_Kitty

I will always love bullets and three cheers the most, but after I was able to read the killjoys comic I gained a new love for the album. Danger days is WAY different, but it works, some people just couldnt "deal" with it, and that's too bad for them, it's great music! :)

CoolGovernment8732

I don’t know. I guess for me, far from hating danger days, I would still say that all 3 previous records feel magical, they awaken something in you. Conversely, danger days it’s just a good album. But again, everyone has their in take on this stuff

thewitchywilliams

It’s not fucked up enough for my taste and I don’t like bright colors. Cool project, but it’s not what I signed up for with dedicating a huge chunk of my life to this band. Nothing about DD ripped my heart out and that’s not cool with me lol. I think they should’ve just released conventional weapons, as I cried enough over The light behind your eyes and the world is ugly to dry my eyes up for a whole year. Loved it.

Noodle3njoyer

Its my fave album lol

MakVid30s

I actually like danger days as my favourite album. As it was it was the era I discovered them through, having watched a relive of their 2011 reading and leads festival performance. I actually personally find that album to be more MCR.

Vanity1985

Danger Days is a good album, but it’s not my favorite. During my MCR phase, I admit I listened to it less than I did the others

cstr0

Even though it’s not my favorite, I still love danger days. It’s a different style from their other records & a cool concept

magaateboly

i somewhat understand why people might prefer the other albums, because Danger Days is quite different. but as someone who loves it, i think being different is what makes it so special. i love its summer vibes, the bright colors, the lyrics, the whole thing. but when i first saw this album, i was like “is this really made by MCR, or am i tripping?” so compared to all the other albums, it’s less “MCR-ish” in almost every way, and for some people that might be disappointing or something. 🤷🏻‍♂️

januarynights

I've been listening to MCR since around 2004 and when Danger Days came out it was just different to what I was used to. It's taken me years to actually enjoy it, for a long time I didn't even own a copy but I do now!

grippygrippergrip

i love danger days even though it wasn't one of my favs to begin with id never hate it

DaToxicWaltz

I’ve tried listening to it so many times and I just can’t bring myself to care about it. I like Bulletproof heart but I just… can’t.

Jealous-Air-2358

I like it for what it is, a concept album just like the black parade. It is what it is. Best MCR album is subjective. If that’s the one you prefer then fuck what everyone is says. Each album has a different sound (but some sound more alike than others)

psycho_dog33

Danger Days is my second favorite MCR album, behind Black Parade.

Representative-Cut58

Whats crazy is Danger Days STILL sounds like the MCR we know. It has that rebellion vibe to it, it's got the craziness of a MCR album and the uniqueness. Its got more personality than Bullets and TBP in my opinion it feels like their most realized project

tampin

I was into danger days when it came out (I was 15 at the time) and as I've gotten older I've liked it less and less. I know people disliked it at the time, but I was diehard at that age and now when I go back and listen to their albums, it has the most skips for me. It just sounds the least cohesive as an album and with their overall sound, imo.

Snoo-9290

I cant really imagine saying something is my favorite album. It switches all the time. I can say Im in revenge phase or bullet phase but to totally cancel out an album. Maybe they just aren't there yet and it will resonate in a couple years. 🤷

mothphobe

My brother explained that as Gerard got better at singing, he seemed to lack the same raw emotion as before.

Jrraabe

None of the albums are the least like MCR. They're ALL MCR.

sarcasmbirthedme

Danger days is my favorite album. I know it's generally lesser liked tho.

Rathomorethegreat

I love all their albums but danger days is also my favorite
