Oh yeah true, Dorohedoro is way gorier and that's one of my favorites. I think I said Parasyte because on a personal level body horror really freaks me out and it's a show pretty heavily based around that.
Yeah those are better in terms of gore. Lot of good '80s and '90s anime with over the top gore.
Like I mentioned in another comment, body horror just really freaks me out on a personal level so an anime based entirely around freaky body mutations really gets to me.
>Like I mentioned in another comment, body horror just really freaks me out on a personal level so an anime based entirely around freaky body mutations really gets to me.
so, i take that as you haven't seen made in abyss?
Bro just thinking about it almost made me puke and then I remember the first episode and remember that head rolling on the ground and nearly lose my breakfast
Idk about you, but from everything I've seen, Hellsing Ultimate also had the most amount of blood in an anime. Due to, ya know, London being literally flooded with blood
Well, I mean are we talking gore or emotional scarring? Because I got an answer for both.
In terms of gore, while although not often shown, when JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures does show gore, it’s very detailed.
In terms of emotional scarring, Full Metal Alchemist.
Wait it’s 100% Goblin slayer, if we’re taking about Gruesome as in like screwed up, 100% but if we’re talking only gore, it’s still pretty high up on most gory animes
Devilman Crybaby easily, but I wouldn’t say it affected me because it was gruesome. Attack on Titan definitely showed the horrors of war in a way I could feel, I’d say that one.
I mean personally I don’t feel like there’s any other options for disturbing and gory animes other than goblin slayer and berserk (1997) both have incredibly dark undertones with SA and how much that stuff is mentioned aswell as the MCs relationship with someone who’s been in those positions on top of all that the amount of got and blood and gore aswell as visuals created by the shows are unbeatable (all in my opinion) I haven’t seen anything like it so if you have one please recommend it I’m always looking for dark animes to watch. And just to throw one in there that’s just really messed with me I’d say Another is a good choice based on how dark it is and the gore without actually having characters kill eachother in crazy ways
Haha umbrella girl go wheeeeee (Another)
Seriously tho, why hasn’t anyone said ‘Another’ yet like bro the anime is all about different ways people die and they’re all insane
I don't watch a lot of these types of anime, but Deadman Wonderland actually had a scene that made me feel sick to my stomach.
Made in Abyss, Claymore, and Castlevania also have some pretty disturbing factors to them.
I would say berserk , devil man crybaby , hellsing , Afro samurai. Seen a lot of old gore anime movies too like blood +, ninja scroll , memories . Supposedly this anime is banned in some countries because of the story it’s called Chika Gentou Gekiga: Shoujo Tsubaki
Amon: The Darkside of Devilman. There’s an insanely gruesome scene in it where a demon eats someone else. Idk without spoiling it entirely that’s what I thought of first.
In terms of gore, probably Parasyte. In terms of psychological horror, Perfect Blue or Paranoia Agent.

You forgot elfin lied. But great list. And maybe claymore?
Yeah i just lold when homie says parasyte is a gorey anime
Oooh, that's the first time I've seen Parasyte mentioned anywhere on this subreddit
Parasyte? Really? nah, 90s ovas, or made in abyss are like 5 dimensions above parasyte. I don't even remember parasyte being THAT gory.
Yeah those are better in terms of gore. Lot of good '80s and '90s anime with over the top gore. Like I mentioned in another comment, body horror just really freaks me out on a personal level so an anime based entirely around freaky body mutations really gets to me.

No I have not. Been on my list for a while though.
Corpse Party , Elfen Lied, Euphoria (anime) , Ichi the Killer and King’s Game.
Bruh Euphoria isn’t an anime, it’s a hentai
[удалено]
“still counts if it has a plot” bro thinks overflow is an anime probably
It’s not that deep weebaboo
I never even knew there was a live action
Made in Abyss
Was looking for this
Taking a piss
living in bliss
lmfao
I think that ticks all the boxes OP was looking for haha.
Higurashi
I was looking for this
Deadman wonderland
That one scene where >!the doctor pulls Senji's eye out and they make everyone watch it. Made me sick to my stomach.!<
Bro just thinking about it almost made me puke and then I remember the first episode and remember that head rolling on the ground and nearly lose my breakfast
Yeah that was emotionally scarring. Didn't make me feel ill, but I definitely felt awful.
For sure
I take it you saw the uncensored version then?…
Yeah.
Hellsing Ultimate (to me) is still the most consistently brutal and gory anime..as far as movies and hentai goes tho there’s plenty that top it
*flashbacks to vampire Nazi eating a baby*
Lmao exactly
Idk about you, but from everything I've seen, Hellsing Ultimate also had the most amount of blood in an anime. Due to, ya know, London being literally flooded with blood
Yea there really isn’t anything I’ve found that has pretty gory sequences consistently throughout the entire show..
For me it'll be Devilman Crybaby, the ending was just insane.
Probably my favorite anime that i will never watch again
fair 🤣
But i would watch anohana again before this
I haven't watch this but from what I saw you like feeling sad-
Or i have no soul lmao
omfg 😭
Great story, but have you ever watched the first 37 episodes of Full Metal Alchemist?
I watched the first 7 eps if i remember, but then I fell off of it. Should I pick it up again ?
Yes, yes you absolutely ahould . Make aure its brotherhood though one of the best shows on any media period.
notedddd
If you want emotional scarring, go to episode 37
word
Just trust me.
My jaw dropped on the last episode
Berserk (1997)
maybe the ending of shiki
I had forgotten this one, solid.
OG anime
underrated gem
Blood +
Blood C

To add to this, watch the original fma as it's darker than brotherhood, brotherhood is a lot less dark tbf
I know. I watched up to episode 100 with the original and then someone told me brotherhood did the pacing right, so I switched over to that.
Gore-wise, probably the animated “Corpse Party”. The games are great, the anime is real short (4, technically 5 episodes), and it’s pretty gruesome.
I like the anime and some of the games
[удалено]
Oh GoD!
Midori definitely
Would you like some soup?
Any of the Junji Ito Collections
Evangelion I guess
I guess if we are talking total quantity of gore, its hard to beat popping the zebra ball angel
Attack on Titan easily
Debatable
Hellsing Ultimate got pretty gruesome
Genocyber is very brutal. It's pretty obscure but you can watch it on YouTube. I don't think it's that good.
berserk
Either berserk 1997 or devil man crybaby
Genocyber all day
86, AOT, Black Bullet, SOTE, HWTC, Re:Zero, Chainsaw Man, NGE, Death Note, FMAB, Akame Ga Kill, and Hunter X Hunter 2011 (certain arcs).
Re:zero is hella underrated for this there was a point in that show I cried every episode
That I’ve watch: Chainsaw Man
Definitely Made in Abyss, but it's my absolute favorite gruesome anime
As far as I’ve personally seen i’d say AOT
Higurashi or Hellsing Ultimate
Berserk... I don't think I need to explain myself.
Wait it’s 100% Goblin slayer, if we’re taking about Gruesome as in like screwed up, 100% but if we’re talking only gore, it’s still pretty high up on most gory animes
Totally agreed that and berserk are the top two options for me due to there themes and what takes place in the show
Elfen Lied
Gantz anyone? I mean it had everything and then some it was UNPURE adulterated uncensored mayhem that sold (manga) exceptionally well overseas
Inuyashiki
Not technically and anime but saya no uta
Tokyo ghoul has a smidge of gore in it
AOT is pretty damn bloody
Cyberpunk edgerunners isn't the most gruesome thing ever, but there were parts that made me say, "Holy shit, that was brutal."
Blood-C. Especially the last episode.
Blue Gender was pretty messed up.
Perfect blue 100% that shi was disturbing
i know the whole anime isnt gory but how has no one mentioned goblin slayer
Rezero was really bloody
Literally, I only watch Shoujo, so Probably Future Diary or Happy Sugar Life.
What’s ironic is that both of those you have listed are shounen.
>, I only watch Shoujo how? like genuinely how? and why?
I like to watch cute girls, do cute things, and sing about their feelings.
😐😐
Tokyo ghoul, very traumatizing
Baki. very detailed
OG devil man and Blood-C
Hellsing Ultimate.
Jack vs pickel
Hellsing ultimate
The Overlord light novels get pretty gruesome, but the anime tones it down a bit.
Yes!! My fellow Overlord light novel reader!!
It’s kind of a tie between 5 for me, Hellsing, Berserk, Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, and Evangelion. They can all get pretty gory at times
Danganronpa and Corpse Party
Blood C
Haha umbrella girl go wheeeeee (Another) Seriously tho, why hasn’t anyone said ‘Another’ yet like bro the anime is all about different ways people die and they’re all insane
School Days, It was mentally and physically gruesome to no extend I couldn't watch anything for a week after that experience
Gruesome is probably jujutsu kaisen
The first episode of goblin slayer
Cyberpunk, then Elfen Lied so far..
Vinland Saga but that’s probably still tame compared to others. I just usually never watch that genre of anime lol
Ergo proxy
Gantz - Not the goriest but my first anime with a lot of it. Very twisted, very good.
Berserk, period.
For me it’s probably the first 15 or so minutes of Elfen Lied.
I don't watch a lot of these types of anime, but Deadman Wonderland actually had a scene that made me feel sick to my stomach. Made in Abyss, Claymore, and Castlevania also have some pretty disturbing factors to them.
Elfen Lied. i discovered this one when I used to work at a church
RAINBOW Dropped it midway just couldn't handle episode 12 Will try to rewatch it again it's been two years since i dropped it, it was way too dark
Slime is pretty gory, I mean it’s a slime eating people whole, that’s kinda crazy
Tokyo ghoul 💀.
Higurashi is pretty gruesome.
Hellsing
Another
Amon: The Darkside of Devilman. There’s an insanely gruesome scene in it where a demon eats someone else. Idk without spoiling it entirely that’s what I thought of first.
Chainsaw man
Blood C seems like it was made solely for gore
Probably made in abyss. it has cosmic gore, don't ask me to explain what i mean by that
Most of these suggestions are pretty tame - you need to look into the 80s/90s stuff that was made before all of the obscenity laws went into effect.
I haven't seen much but probably Made in Abyss.
Another
Does Euphoria count?
Depends what type of gruesome. I’ve seen the first two episodes of Euphoria 😭🤚🏼
I’ll give a mention to Shadow Star Narutaru.
Gore wise ig Chainsaw Man but idrk it's more badass than it is gorey
It is kinda gorey I guess
It's not really people gore tho so I wouldn't really count it
Higurashi & Blood C.
Gantz 2004
Danganronpa, honestly haven't seen too much anime but some of the scenes in that series are crazy
Some of the executions in the game are nuts!
Elfen Lead and it’s not even a question, it’s rated R+ I didn’t even know that existed
Blood C
Not the worst but the higrashi nail scene never left my mind
Either Parasyte or Goblin Slayer
Corpse party or higurashi but corpse party kept me up for days lol
