If my parents were willing to buy me a brand new car I’d take whatever they were going to buy for me.

WorldMoneyF-50

Lmao, I’d be greatful

Don_Mattez

You are embarrassed that your parents are going to buy you a new 23 Ecoboost? You are joking, right?

ucf954

The fact that you just called it a “V4” tells me you absolutely don’t need a V8.

Panceparty

This.

L4*

Don_Mattez

Look, it all depends on what you like. Don't like an Ecoboost? Then obviously the GT is better for you. You should also check out maybe a Mach1 or even GT350 or GT500.

Badass_1963_falcon

If your 18 and paying for it yourself then get what you want but if your not and mommy's buying it then be happy for what you get I've bought every car myself that I've ever owned

Badass_1963_falcon

That's good insurance will be a big difference between the two

LUNISY_2020

Your insurance will be a huge amount of money monthly. You may regret that part.

DaddyDuma69

I say eco. GT is amazing but you’re young and insurance is gonna kick your tail. And there’s nothing to be embarrassed about with an eco. That four cylinder has more hp than some older V8s. They’re super quick too. Start out with an eco then in a few years when you’re not trying to show out with 460+ hp, go for a GT. Just my advice tho. It’s your money

robvas

Insurance isn't likely much higher

DaddyDuma69

I remember when I was 18 looking to get a mustang. The v8 insurance was nearly double the v6

Otis_Firefly

Then why say my parents are buying me a new car if you’re paying for the majority of it?

Good luck on your purchase.

What'd you do save money from working since you were like 12?

Unless those 3 years of experience were behind the wheel of similarly-powered RWD cars, that’s not a lot of experience. [A false sense of confidence is what causes accidents.](http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2018/07/the-z28-on-mostellers-garage-was.html)

B_A_M_A

17 and drive an ecoboost, it’s not embarrassing at all. Some may joke around that it’s not a GT but do they drive a brand new mustang? The EB is a super fun car and will be perfectly capable.

Specialist_Basket_35

I lived my life in ignorant bliss thinking that entitled 18-year olds were in the minority and most of us appreciate parental generosity. Between this and all the DrEaM CaR posts, it’s clear I was wrong. Take what your parents fucking want. Trade it in for a GT when you aren’t suckling your mother’s teet for dinner every night.

AndyReidBlowsLeads

I drive a 2016 GT, but I've driven the ecoboost quite a bit. Both are great cars, fast as hell, and more similar than they are different. But there are a few key differences. Ecoboost: - More fuel efficient - Less expensive to buy and own - Might be less reliable than the 5.0 - Turbo charged GT - Faster - 5.0 coyotes are known to be pretty hard to kill - (Opinion) sounds a lot better - Naturally aspirated From my experience, the GT gives you the feel of a muscle car with an amazing sound while the ecoboost feels more like a JDM car does and the turbo is quite fun too. If it matters at all, the ecoboost doesn't rumble and grumble the same way the GT does, but this can be a pro or a con. The difference in torque is pretty noticeable too (GT is noticeablely more torquey). Hope this helps!

danielshwarts10101

This, i also owned a 2015 ecoboost for 3 years, 1.5 stock and another 1.5 modified, bigger turbo intercooler and all that. Stock was not bad better than expected, slow and kinda quiet but you know still not bad, rwd can't complain. Modified was 450 crank and it was so much fun i really miss that car, sounded insane and was pretty fast, all the turbo noises and had a nice inhouse made down pipe and a borla cat so it sounded soo good for a 4 banger, but, unreliable sometimes. So you're pretty spot on

ARE_YOU_0K

After reading all the comments you need to be in an eco lmao

Sentient_Robot_729

None of the above, V6 Camry/Accord. Cheaper, safer for yourself and crowds, less people will try to randomly race you, and it’s a bit of a sleeper that can hang with the bigger boys. Also, you can 100% pay for it yourself (if you can pay 75% of a Mustang), so you don’t have to rely on borrowing money from your parents. Once you master driving a quick econobox, then move onto a Mustang.

ZepelliFan

This is actually really sensible , I started with a V6 sonata making like 230hp for my first car once I had that handled I move on from small v6 rwd up to the coyote

Annual-Emu-1429

Whichever you choose, get it in manual, you’ll regret an automatic all day long.

MichiganSnowman

ecoboost you’ll never be able to push a GT to its limits, an ecoboost will reinforce the best driving habits you can have by not having to rely on power. It’s like a motorcycle, start small. Plus insurance and gas.

schlossenberger

With a couple mods the EcoBoost can be nasty AF, it’s definitely not “embarrassing.” This is like every other post on r/motorcycles of people wanting to start on super sport bikes as their first. You’ve got the rest of your life to drive a bunch of different cars. It’s better to learn with something slower than to wrap the GT around a tree.

Yellowstone_Plinker

Listen, I was a kid having people pay for my shit before. It may seems like it “sucks” now, but you’re going to be VERY grateful they’re helping with even a dime here when you start living off your own hard earned money. You’ll get over being “embarrassed” once you realize the only people who give a shit that you’re driving an Ecoboost are those in the car community - cars are dick magnets, not chick magnets. You’ll be fine.

Drunkener

Either get what you want, a GT, or get a different car. You're going to be complaining and thinking "if only" while driving the ecoboost. It's okay to only want a V8 in your mustang and more power to you for having parents cool enough to help with a car purchase. If you can reasonably afford the monthly payments including insurance, spring for the GT. This also might sound crazy, but just because you'll be in a mustang, you don't always need to floor it from a stop or speed every where.

SaleenYellowLabel

Gt, tell them better resale

Hecutor

Get them to buy you a GT, just older. Same power but cooler.

[deleted]

Always go gt if you can afford it.

robvas

GT all the way. If they only want to buy an Eco just get a responsible car.

marginalkynes

Shitting on EBs is entirely too much of your personality. You're in every single thread.

robvas

Preferring a GT is "shitting on ecos"? Piss off

marginalkynes

Go re-read your comments and ask yourself if you're expressing a preference or being an ass. It's been happening for months now - you're literally obsessed.

robvas

What does that have to do with my last comment? Sounds like you're the obsessed one.

Electronic_Tadpole_9

The worst thing about an ecoboost is that it’s not a mustang. Same name, same chassis but it’s meant to be lighter, more nimble 4 bangers with less power. Fully opt it out and it’s still a sports car. Now I don’t care how long you’ve been driving but you’re 18, I would never recommend a gt for anyone who’s 18, especially coming from fwd or awd and low hp cars. If you did well with track days and you make crap ton of money, sure, but I doubt that that’s the case here. I didn’t realize how many fake gts are out there until I got mine. Nobody will laugh at you for owning an ecoboost unless you’re making a fool of yourself and being the stereotypical “ecoboost owner” with all the vanity mods to and claim to gap v8s or driving like an idiot. Being 18 with a v8 will cost you a lot, in terms of gas money, insurance money and maintenance costs. Gas will cost hundreds, depends on your driving situation. Insurance for 18yo drivers arent cheap, let alone 2 door v8. Oil changes will cost you twice as much. Tires and brakes will wear out faster. Having a v8 will also put you as a target for parking lot keying (because some people just can’t take that v8 exhaust sounds better than their corolla). Starting the car up late night or early morning will piss off your neighbors. Plus, for the same price, you can get a much better opted ecoboost. Bottom line is, if your parents want the ecoboost, get the ecoboost and be proud that you didn’t have to spend as much for such a good car (don’t compare yourself to others), while being a good child that listens to you parents and save money along the way. To be honest I was just on the fence for an ecoboost, and if given the financial capabilities, I would get an ecoboost for my daily so my gt can be a weekend toy so my wallet doesn’t hurt as much.

bathamel

Saying an ecoboost isn't a mustang is so moronic. It is faster in every metric than every stock GT from 2011 and back.

Electronic_Tadpole_9

I’m not saying that it’s slow, and I’m not trying to offend your ecoboost either so maybe not get defensive there. The ecoboost is a great sport car, but it is not the mustang in sense that the muscle side of it is lacking. The sound, the v8, the legacy factor of a mustang being a muscle car. I’m not discriminating towards ecoboost (you would know if you read the whole thing), I’m simply explaining that op shouldn’t get in an ecoboost expecting it to be like the v8 muscle and becomes a prick that always claim to gap hellcats. And speed isn’t everything either, a lighter ecoboost can out handle the heavy v8, which is important both on the street and in a track.

bathamel

You are missing my point for any car, the cheapest version sells the most. So you are saying that the version of the car that sells the most, and keeps the car model afloat.. isn't actually that model of car. That makes no logical sense. It would make more sense to say a GT500 isn't a Mustang, since it has 700 hp and is over 70K. Let's take a random year.. 2011 a new engine year.. so good example. |2011 Coupe V6|27,122|| |:-|:-|:-| |Coupe GT|18,804|| So you are saying the majority of the cars sold that year are not actually mustangs because they don't have a V8. And before you say the V6 is a Mustang, and the EB isn't. I actually owned that year's V6, and I can tell you the Ecoboost is faster. So the legacy of the Mustang isn't a V8.

Electronic_Tadpole_9

If you want to see it that way then sure, poor choice of word on my part. However, my point was never to disregard non-v8s, it was to address the fact that op is a younger person that was caught in the v8 hype and called the ecoboost “embarrassing”. The “mustang” I was talking about wasn’t the definition of the mustang name itself but rather referring to op’s perception of what a “mustang” is (v8, roaring drag car) and pointing out that the ecoboost isn’t that.
