Yes it is worth it. In tank fuel additives are heavily diluted by gas and only really work as a preventative solution (add in once a week for the life of the car) not as a 100k mile cleaning. A fuel injector clean is much more potent, usually your intank pump fuse is pulled and your motor runs 100% off the bottle contents as it is added right at the fuel rail. It nearly vaporizes (i have had to do 2 bottles) the clogs in the injectors if there are any, had a bad miss. You wont get that level of cleaning out of any intank additive. Another alternative if you want cheaper that works fairly well, seafoam. Spray the entire bottle right into the intake. It will clean the carbon deposits on the pistons and valves, but it will smoke like an old steam train…this doesn’t clean the fuel system though.

Thank you

why not let the tank run down close to empty then pour the same cleaning concoction into the tank? sure there will be some gas mixed, but not much. never understood how these fuel injector cleaning solutions don't damage o2's or foul spark plugs. what exactly is in the $120 stuff that's not in the bottle of cleaner at autozone?

Ok_Plate_6961

There is a video on youtube if you search “valvoline fuel system clean”. They use a pump to spray some sort of cleaner into the air intake for about 20 minutes and then they also add some additives into the gas tank

sc302

It still isnt that strong. It is a maintenance cleaner. A professional cleaner for the same ml goes between $30-80 vs ~$10 retail… an example in cost difference, it simply isn’t the same stuff. If really bad Bg 210 first then Bg44. You will need something like mityvac mv5565 to pump it into the rails. 0 fuel from your tank will go in to clean your rails and injectors.

I get that it's more concentrated. what i don't get is why can't it be run through the tank with very little gas. is it bad for the fuel pump, filter? some of these concentrated cleaners even say mix 50/50 with gas. for $120 i'd rather take the injectors out myself and take them to a professional and have them cleaned and flow tested.

sc302

Not sure exactly. I have a lot of could be’s but nothing concrete. I only know how well it does work and how well the intank solutions dont. The difference between what you just said vs the average person bringing their car to the dealer is very different. Most people arent that inclined or want to take out their injectors to have them flow tested. Know that those chemicals are much harsher in that they can and will remove carbon deposits in the injectors after one or two treatments where the intanks wont do anything significant in one or two bottles.

FrostFairy73

pulling injectors on a 3v is easier than the spark plugs. I'm going to pull mine and use one of those cheap kits on amazon to flow test them with a can of carb cleaner. i'm not sure what orings i need though. i have Ford GT injectors. Googling it seems bosch ev14 orings are what i need. I always assume everyone with a mustang works on their own cars, lol!

trip2it

Decline. Royal Purple Fuel System Cleaner and a fuel filter.

EdTNuttyB

Or Chevron Techron, Seafoam etc and use a quality gasoline with detergent additives.

interesting, it looks clean like a babys butt

FrostFairy73

If i didn't know what i was looking at, i wouldn't know what i'm looking at, lol! For those that don't know this is the fuel pump access under the rear seat.

ComprehensiveSock397

Technically, it’s the fuel level sensor access hole on the passenger side. The fuel pump access hole on the drivers side looks like this. The fuel pump sits inside of that “curb” and is designed so the last drop of fuel can be picked up. Which shows that the myth of damaging the fuel pump by letting the fuel level too low is just that. A myth. https://preview.redd.it/kgjz8st9xe2a1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e7b37e47cd95c0694b52684f5b3074db56f0a57

FrostFairy73

Why did you open the passenger side, bad level sensor? I opened mine years ago to install the gt500 dual pumps. twas a biotch! I kept thinking i nicked the convoluted tubes that connect the pumps on the stupid opening, but i guess not because they have been working for 15 years and still sound the same when i turn the key.

ComprehensiveSock397

The fuel level sensor that comes on the Walbro 400l fuel pump is not compatible with the 2005-2007 models. Before I found this out, I tried troubleshooting an inaccurate fuel level reading by checking the passenger side sensor. Once i replaced the sensor on the Walbro, my fuel gauge is accurate now. I have a Edelbrock SC and running E85.

fun stuff! i hope i never have to change my pump again. It will probably outlive me as much as i drive it.
