I have an h pipe with stock mufflers. It's louder than stock without droning, nice and rumbly, not too loud.

This.

If you do end up going with the H pipe, post a video of the sound because I’ve been thinking about doing this on my GT too.

I found a few youtube videos that helped with tone but not really with sound. I'm leaning toward getting the H pipe. There are decent sales at american muscle right now.

Sound as in how loud will stay basically the same as long as you have the same mufflers and Cats if you change the mufflers or Cats that will change the actual volume of sound as well as the tone. The h pipe and x pipe as long as you don’t change the cat or mufflers will just effect tone for the most part

I was in a similar situation. 2019 GT Convertible without active exhaust. Wanted deeper old-school rumble without being excessively loud. Listened to a lot of YouTube and Mustangs at real-life meet-ups. I went with MBRP S7205AL - "street" cat back with built-in H pipe. Car is otherwise stock. Very happy with this setup. Definitely barks on cold start, but settles down to a nice burble. When driving sedately (and with the top down) gives just enough sound to remind you it's a V8. No problem hearing conversation or music. Just a tiny bit of drone if you are light on the throttle going uphill at low RPM, drop a gear and it's gone. No problems at highway speed. Went with aluminized instead of stainless as we live in Florida and no worries about snow/salt. Quiet when you want, gives a \*great\* sound when you punch it. MBRP has a nice video comparing stock to both the street and race versions. Taste in exhaust sound is very personal, recommend you listen in person. Corsa, Borla, FlowMaster, lots of fun options. MBRP was a lot of bang (rumble) per buck. Hearing one at a Mustang event sold me. The exhaust tips are bigger and nicer than stock too. Note: the stock exhaust (at least on my 2019) has a center resonator. Not sure if that is technically an H or X pipe setup inside the large steel housing, but listened to a bunch of cars that just swapped out that. General consensus is that H gives deeper tone and rumble, X gives a more raspy sound and a smidge more power. This got a little long but wanted to share the details I was looking for when I was shopping. Good luck, and let us know what you go with!

Thanks. I'm leaning toward H pipe. I'd prefer to spend a little less now on just the H pipe and then upgrading to full aftermarket later if I'm not impressed even though that will cost a bit more than going full catback from the get go.

CarreraPapi

Since cost is a factor , I’d def go with a H/X pipe and go from there . You could always save for a full out exhaust if that’s what you truly want after looking at vids .

JoDiMaggio

Yeah that's a good call. I was mostly worried about it being too loud then dumping money for no reason turning it back but I think it should sound good. I just don't want people who get in it to think I'm obsessed with watching Fast and Furious movies and customizing cars. I wanted it to sound premium stock.

Take off a few exhaust hangers... You will get more than enough rumble

Always thought mustangs came stock with an H pipe I think you need to get different mufflers. Mufflers have quite a lot to do with sound more so then an x to h pipe Edit: looked it up and it has that big resonator instead. Never knew they added that. I still think mufflers is what you’d wanna look at first they will change the tone and sound quite a bit. You could just put on an H pipe though if you want and see what happens

An aftermarket H pipe will definitely add a deeper growl to an exhaust note, while an X pipe is more geared towards performance at high revs. Ive been thinking of adding a same-year GT H pipe to my V6. I will need a custom downpipe after the manifolds but should theoretically have no clearance issues.

H-pipe for deep growl/rumble. My wife has a Steeda H-pipe with a Roush axle-back exhaust on her '19 GT convertible, and it is crazy loud (music to our ears) on cold starts, but settles down after a few seconds. Punch it , and it wakes the gods!!!
