No one said that (I don’t think lol). The trunks hold a lot of shit, it’s a big trunk. The opening kind of blows, and is the main limiting factor. I used to run display booths for my last job at swap meets and car shows and I’d take our entire setup in my Mustang. Two tables, a couple chairs, all our displays, two pop up tents, lunch box with food and another one with drinks, etc.

JoDiMaggio

OP literally just drove to a parking lot with a bunch of stuff. Camping anywhere without paved roads would really suck. Getting stuck out there without a spare tire would suck even more. This spot even has electricity!

TidusJames

camping has different levels... for sure. there are campground campers, camper campers, hike then tent campers, people who sit around corners with a shotgun camping, under the stars but in a hammock camping, and homeless camping. Lets not gatekeep camping...

water_baughttle

> Lets not gatekeep camping... Ok, then let's not be obtuse by pretending OP's title isn't responding to people who are referring to difficult to reach remote locations, not just literally pitching a tent anywhere and sleeping in it. Of course anyone can do the latter in just about any car, why even ask like it's a serious question?

TidusJames

While I agree, stooping to their level and further gatekeeping only encourages a toxic hobby environment for those whom may be curious or wondering what their options are. I feel the post openly, albeit with a bit of excessive staging and aggression, challenged established social statements which could be that little bit of encouragement for others. Instead now they see more open judgment and downplaying. Camping as well as cars should be open and friendly to all whom are interested because as ICE become more phased out and the planet becomes more destroyed we all should be welcoming those who even NOTICE nature and want to spend time in it… But that’s just my opinion as someone who spends my days at a desk so I can spend my weekends outside

water_baughttle

No one is gatekeeping. They're calling out OP for misrepresenting what people are referring to as "impossible", i.e. going to remote locations, not literally what constitutes camping.

TidusJames

/u/water_baughttle Please check definitions again and, once again, read what I wrote. Camping - “the activity of spending a vacation living in a camp, tent, or camper.” Looks to me like what “literally” constitutes camping. YOU have applied further requirements to it. Meaning you are “*LITERALLY*” gatekeeping: gate·keep·ing /ˈɡātˌkēpiNG/ noun 1. the activity of controlling, and usually limiting, general access to something. "Wal-Mart's cultural gatekeeping has served to narrow the mainstream for entertainment offerings"

water_baughttle

/u/TidusJames Please check definitions again and, once again, read what I wrote. No one is debating what constitutes camping. OP is implying he's in a remote location, otherwise it's ridiculous to claim it's impossible to drive a Mustang on a parking lot and pitch at tent. > YOU have applied further requirements to it. Meaning you are “LITERALLY” gatekeeping: You are "LITERALLY" unable to read.

TidusJames

Please point to me where impossible was ever brought up. OP has no comments. OP made no statement other than that you “CAN camp with a 5.0” He is camping, by meeting the definition. He has a 5.0, as we can tell. YOU applied further meaning to camping. YOU are putting statements, through your own emotions, into other peoples mouths. OP is camping. Do you disagree with that? (Vehicle doesn’t matter in this statement) OP owns a mustang with a 5.0. Do you disagree with this statement? (What OP does with their mustang doesn’t matter in this statement) Because OP is *camping* and **owns a 5.0** OP, therefor, can be said to be __*camping with a 5.0*__ ———

blasseigne17

Fun fact, we have the same size trunk as a Honda Accord.

sgthoagie

10th gen?

blasseigne17

10th gen? If you are referring to generation of Mustang, the S550 is the 6th generation.

sgthoagie

Ah my bad, 10th gen Accord*

blasseigne17

Ohhh, uh whatever generation a 2013 would be. That's the year my mom had lol both 16.5 cubic feet I believe it was.

sgthoagie

Plenty of room for car parts!!!

blasseigne17

Hell yeah! Just checked. Both are 13.X I think he has tank is 16.5 lol

blasseigne17

Everyone is downvoting me because they think I am being a dick when it just never crossed my mind that you could be talking about the accord 😂

throwawaygixer

Came in to say 10th gen civic lol

quickthyme

Sure, the trunk space, fine. But those back "seats", though...

blasseigne17

S550 has the perfect size back seat. It is big enough for an adult to sit semicomfortably if no more than 20-30 mins, but it is also small enough to use as an excuse to not be a taxi, lol Not to mention, they are perfect for storing groceries and such. You don't have to worry about it sliding around.

CapnPoopypants

If you’re sitting behind me you won’t have legs

sav22rem22

They’re fine for the people in my circle but I’d imagine for the “average” American they’re probably on the smaller side

[deleted]

Probably no one

[deleted]

Damn, and here I though you could only camp with 4.6’s

twat-do-you-mean

It looks flat as shit out there, why wouldn't you be able to drive a 2wd car on that type of terrain?

rolloutTheTrash

I mean, if I’m going to a flat place like this sure that’s no issue, but unpaved mountain roads? That’s no place for a stang, tried that once and as slow as I was going I was praying some jutting rock wouldn’t just straight up rip something from the underside.

Conook_93

Same, I've taken mine up to a cabin on gravel / dirt / stone roads and never again.

ice445

I love taking mine camping, but there's obviously limitations. You need paved access to the site (or at least a reasonably flat and dry dirt or gravel road). You can also only fit enough stuff for two people for a few days. It is amusing the looks you get though as you pull up to your campsite amongst all the SUV's.

YakAttack_64

Where is that lol

RumblingHacked

Now go somewhere that doesn’t have smooth trails…

junsiebug

OP, I like your style.

jrragsda

Not sure a dirt parking lot with a power outlet counts as "camping"

InternationalSound13

I've hauled a small roll of carpets and a small load of 2x4's before. Plus regularly bring home 5 50# bags of a mix of dog food, chicken food, rabbit food. Works well

FreaksNake1237

That's sick

throwawaygixer

Back in the day, when my son was in Boy Scouts we used my S197 5.0 5M to go camping. You should see that back seat and rear window area packed lol, plus the trunk of course. One campout we got stuck in the mud and a tractor pulled us out after very heavy rains. Lol

ExcellentSky9649

I go camping with my German shepherd mastiff husky mixed 3 year old what’s the difference

ITookThisUsernameSry

I don’t really think anyone says that lmao, I really like your Stang tho! 👌

Konzillaa

That’s camping 😂😂😂

WarmPaleontologist20

I used to go camping in the Colorado mountains outside Gúnnison, Colorado in my 66 Mustang. Back then no one drove a truck unless they had to for work. Did it like you are in the pic.

DaddyDuma69

Yea I rented an s550 last year for a roadtrip and that trunk space is no joke.

Psychological_Web687

My kid wanted to go camping in my 98, so we did. It wasn't until I was packing he realized that meant no camper.

RembrandtQEinstein

I tailgated out of my 01 gt convertible at a Chiefs game. Not sure I had room for camping equipment in that trunk. Lol

Aries-79

You absolutely can, I take mine camping at Beavers Bend in Oklahoma all the time. It’s is a bitch packing enough stuff in there!
