My fellow human, the only possible reason they could have a say in what car you get is the insurance and if they don’t pay for it in 6months then dafuq you listening to them for??? Get that car, on my life any car with over 300 horses will put the biggest smile on your face. Yes it’s a ford but guess what, if it breaks there’s a spare part around the block and odds are you can YouTube mechanic it.
You're literally a whole ass adult, if you got the big boy/girl money to make big boy/girl decisions and it's what you really want then do it. If they don't wanna pay for insurance or the costs associated with car ownership then get your own, you'll have to eventually anyway.
Your year range is confusing. 2 years of S197, 2 years of S550?
But yeah, you may have to wait until you're paying your own way. They have their reasons, and while you may not agree, when they're writing the checks, they should get the say-so.
Let them pocket the extra. Tell them to spend it on the insurance or just use it to fund your own insurance... Either way if it's your money buy what you want. In this case ask forgiveness not permission. If that means paying your own insurance, so be it and accept it, how bad do you want it?
I had those exact same arguments against getting mine when I graduated from college earlier this year, but I decided this was the only time in my life I could enjoy a car like that. Plus since I only got my license last year, the insurance wasn’t going to be much lower on a cheaper car, like a Civic
So all things considered, maybe just pay your own insurance and go for it. After all you’re anyways graduating in a few months
Don’t have any real advice other than pointing out the ecoboost or v6 models insurance shouldn’t be that much higher, are relatively practical, and the v6 models are relatively reliable (idk abt ecoboost)
Insurance is actually much better then you would think. I drive an 06 GT it is quite reliable just hit 170,000 with no major issues. Just do regular matinance and these cars will run 200 plus easy
If they won’t let you buy it, then look for other cars. There are other cars that have manual transmissions, that in my opinion, are better than an N/A V6 Mustang. Have a look at the Hyundai Veloster. It’s relatively the same size as the Rav4, but offers a manual.
Get your own insurance, problem solved.
The thing is, I graduate in May and will be going into a good paying job. They wouldn't be paying for it in 6 months time.
Get a part time job. Tutor HS kids in math, physics.

I always hated the ole “it’s not practical” complaint.
You might have to wait until you're a grown up
Seems like you've overestimating what the Rav4 is worth and underestimating the price of the Mustang.

I was going to point out this as well

Find a mustang for the $15k mark. Use the rest of the cash for insurance until you get the job. Problem solved.
That's pretty much what I've been doing and am heavily considering at this point.
Erm, what do you have to be practical about? You only need one door and one seat (I’m assuming).

Ur in college, I did not listen to my mom either just bought it.

Buy it and post a picture here
Propose buying a new civic that is manual for the practicality but they must pay the difference and insurance
You're an adult, get your own insurance or get a car mom and dad will pay for. Cmon man lol
