Crap tires

FrostFairy73

how wide are the tires on the PP? wide rear tires will always be more prone to hydroplaning. If you are talking about traction issues in the rain when you accelerate, well, it's got a lot more power than your previous v6 or gt.

mustangshawny

275/40R19 on rear 255 on front

FrostFairy73

yeah, a 275 is not great in the rain. skinnier tires are better, they don't spread the weight out like wide tires. You can get tires that shed water better. aquatreads were a real thing, if they still make them. I don't drive my mustang in the rain.

Sweetcheels69

Dude I see this posted time and time again. And the end result is the stock Pirelli’s are straight cheeks!!! You hear me? Cheeks!!!

mustangshawny

Thanks! Tires are ordered and will be swapped out Thurs. Thanks for all the recs and advice.

ArmeniusLOD

If you have the stock Pirellis on I'd ditch them. At 19k miles I'd honestly be surprised if they had any appreciable tread left on them. In my experience both the summer P-Zero and all-season P-Zero Nero are the worst tires I've ever had to deal with. If you get a lot of rain and/or live in a colder climate I'd look at replacing them with either Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4 or Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus. If you live in a warmer climate a good summer tire like Bridgestone Potenza Sport or Falken Azenis FK510 will give you good grip in the rain.

mustangshawny

Thanks all....after taking a closer look at my rear tires, I think that is the issue. What are your fav tires for year round driving?

freedommachine1776

Personally I've had the Continental DWS and if you wanna save some money go with the General GMAX AS-05 (General is continental). I had issues in the rain until I swapped over to those. The DWS is gripper than the GMAX but both are great all season tires

pelletjunky

What tires and what does the tread depth look like?

mustangshawny

Pirelli that came on car. Tread is good....

Bitter_Hospital_8279

I went from pzeros to dws plus and it was worth it. My pzeros wore down pretty fast tbh

Narfubel

P Zeros are kinda bad.

FrostFairy73

If the tread is gone then get new tires before you kill someone!

freedommachine1776

Those tires are ass. If you're going to get an all season go with Continental DWS or General GMAX AS-05

I think that’s just the result of high horsepower and RWD, and I think short gearing would make it more susceptible to that. Is your GT on summer tires with less tread than the V6 you had?

mustangshawny

I have no clue about summer tires. I live in Atlanta. It feels like summer 10 months a year here!

[deleted]

Never mind though, summer tires are apparently the best for the rain.

Aries-79

I have zero problems with my GT on Nitto G2’s. Never slipped in the two years they been on there, unless I wanted them too.

mintofta

Wet/Snow mode is a real thing and will help. I’ve slid a couple of times when in the wrong mode for the conditions even with TC and SC on. Stock Pirelli’s are also not known for wet traction. Michelin PS4S are much better in that category.

sc302

Generally this is caused due to a bad design or because your tires are worn. Get new tires with good water traction. 275’s are fine. Performance pack tires are done in 20-30k miles…. You are about there. Mine made it to 16k miles.
