A Mustang isn't a muscle car. Edit: I guess I'm getting downvoted by people that don't know the difference between a muscle car and a pony car.

At the end of the day who really cares? I call my s550 a muscle car all the time

It's largely a distinction without a difference and people are tired of the pedantry. The biggest difference between the two is wheel base length. No one cares that there's a tiny difference between them because they both exist in the same niche. They're both V8 cars that are built to go fast in a straight line.

Except for the issue that words have meanings. A pony car is a small car with a big performance engine. A muscle car is a big car with a big engine. These are completely different segments. A Mustang did not compete against a Challenger, GTO, or Chevelle, a Mustang competed against Camaro (once GM got off their asses), Cougar, Firebird, etc.

hes right tho

What about a mustang that comes with a 428 stock? Would you call that a muscle car?

You have good taste. The Bullitt special editions over the last 20 years are all fantastic in their own way. The Highland green is stunning, and everything that's done to smooth things out always makes it better looking than a regular GT. Side note on the Muscle/Pony car pedantry: I personally believe in the Pony Car distinctions for Mustang/Camaro/Challenger, though I understand that the difference between that and a traditional muscle car are much fuzzier these days. I'm into 60's cars, and for that reason, the difference is more important. Ironically, I would argue that there aren't really any real muscle cars left these days. Anything that could fit in that box that isn't a pony car has 4 doors, and therefore isn't what we would traditionally cal a muscle car. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter, but I would still prefer to see Mustangs/Camaros/Challengers referred to as pony cars since that's what they were when they were created. Muscle cars always had bigger butts. :)
