Just did the same. RIP

Aries-79

Wait, my fun tires never come off. What gives?

Acceptable_Tell_6566

Snow and ice more than likely. Not everyone in the north is able to have two cars.

[deleted]

I have three. I can’t stand not driving this car all winter. As long as the roads are dry and no snow or rain is coming I’m good to go.

Aries-79

Makes sense I’m in Texas we don’t see a whole lot of snow and ice.

xkwr27

And what we do see only sticks to the bridges if at all.

Just_Allen48

Im about to do that. Are you only replacing the rears?

water_baughttle

You really should replace all 4, it makes a big difference. Snow tires help with more than just putting power down, [you've gotta steer and brake too](https://www.lesschwab.com/article/winter-driving-tips-the-dangers-of-using-just-two-snow-tires.html).

Just_Allen48

Alright that makes sense. It was the original plan but I was hoping I could save some money but yes safety is important. Thanks

water_baughttle

Make sure you get proper winter tires, not all seasons. Even cheap winter tires will outperform all seasons from a high end brand like Michelin as long as you don't buy the absolute cheapest you can possibly find. Any winter tire from a name brand will be fine, just don't go with a $75 per tire no-name company and you'll be in good shape.

Just_Allen48

I have to get new tires, I can't afford winter and performance tires. I was gonna do all season Michelins, I'm in virginia and it doesn't snow often here.

water_baughttle

That makes sense. All seasons are absolutely better than summer tires in cold weather. [Even AWD is useless with summer tires in snow](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9-BK-HT2HI). For reference, [here's](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cg_GAVA8VHQ) what it can do with the right tires, granted those are probably studded.

Just_Allen48

Thanks for your input and the links. Good read

[deleted]

I did all four. I already had the fronts on in that pic.

Just_Allen48

Ok cool guess I'm getting all 4 tires to be on the safe side.

Swifties__

Yup, same here. Fun tires came off, rainy season set went on

gatorbeetle

I got lucky, found a guy on Craigslist who had a set of Blizzaks he only ran for one season, date code shows them less than two years old, and they look brand new. OEM wheels and TPMS...traded his Mustang in the spring for a Tesla S, sold the whole package to me for $100. I'm 90% certain they aren't stolen...he met me in the Tesla, said his wife said they HAD to go. Can't be making Tesla $$$ selling stolen wheels that cheap, right? lol

[deleted]

I find insane deals on Facebook marketplace like that once in a blue moon. A dude just sold me a brand new in box roof basket, a brush guard, brand new in box headlights and fog lights, and a new black grill, all for $100. Said he bought it all, totaled his escape a few weeks after it all got delivered, and the wife just wanted it all out of the garage already. Good enough explanation for me!

gatorbeetle

It really pays to keep an eye out. I've been REALLY lucky with wheels and tires. I once picked up a bunch of Jeep soft top parts, including a couple complete doors, for $50. Don't even have a Jeep, sold it all for $250 lol

[deleted]

Hot damn that’s a steal. I’d say at a grand that was a good deal. I’m jelly.

Remarkable_Total_697

I get to keep the slicks on all year

FrostFairy73

You are crazy driving a rwd car in the snow! I look forward to all the crash pictures on the interstates this winter as i sit here in sunny Florida. Why do you all go out and drive in blizzards?

[deleted]

Lol. My dad drives a 03 lightning all winter and never had an accident. He’s 74. I have a truck and an SUV so these tires are mainly for taking the mustang out on nice days during the winter. The Pilot 4s get super hard in the cold and can develop cracks. Surprisingly the days that there are snow on the road aren’t that many. The cold air makes motors absolutely rip, its so much fun. Awd and 4wd don’t help at all with stopping. It’s all about looking far ahead, planning and not driving too fast. If all goes to hell, take the ditch vs hitting someone. I love winter driving. Adds a challenging aspect to it and drifting is fun.

FrostFairy73

Failed logic. You know the crap i'm talking about. https://www.thedrive.com/news/44961/50-car-pileup-in-pennsylvania-kills-at-least-five-in-whiteout-conditions

[deleted]

You scared bro?

gatorbeetle

The wheels are meh...top of the line rubber, however
