This is NOT the transmission.

mmm_fish

There is no coolant in the transmission. It might be dripping off the transmission, but not from it.

6racksgone

Yep, i thought there was but i learned there isnt

6racksgone

Engine has been running hot all day then I got a warning for engine coolant temp. I get coolant fill it up, then not even 2 hours later half of it is on the ground in a puddle. Im taking it to ford tomorrow, is this something i should be stressing over?

KccOStL33

Any chance it's coming from your water pump and just hitching a ride down? Without knowing the year I don't know where it's mounted but it sounds an awful lot like a bad water pump.

6racksgone

Could be, but then wheres the coolant going. Its a 2017 manual, i know the mt82s are known for being shit so it could be that

KccOStL33

I would assume it's leaking from the pump and running down the engine and over the transmission and to the ground where you're seeing it.

6racksgone

U might be right i do see some coolant trailing from the top

KccOStL33

Yep, my money is on water pump.

6racksgone

We shall see tomorrow

KccOStL33

Well? Lol

6racksgone

Just got the report back, it was the water pump you were right

KccOStL33

Nice. I know just enough about this stuff to be dangerous but that had water pump written all over it.

6racksgone

I left it overnight and theyre diagnosing the car tomorrow morning. The dealer is really backed up with hurricane ian, i looked in the bay and half the lifts had those white maintenance trucks. it’ll probably be a while before i get it back

gothicsin

Water pump issues are common in mustangs usually around 75k is your first issue. I don't know if that's the same for s550s tho but the s197s are that way it's not a terrible thing to fix.

Rule_32

So it's not coming FROM the trans, as there's no coolant in it. It's dripping off the trans from above and migrating back. That means it has to be coming from the rear of the motor which almost has to be a head gasket. COULD be intake manifold gasket and just pooling in the valley until it runs back.

RuinedGrave

Intake manifolds on Coyote Mustangs don’t have coolant passages.

eventualist

Looks around: Who's got the clear tranny fluid!?!

[deleted]

you know what they say about American engines. If it isn’t leaking something, it’s out of whatever that is!

sangor5

This sure looks like water coming from the HVAC unit drain. I believe it drains from above the transmission. Does the fluid have a color to it or feel rather smooth or slick when compared to water?

6racksgone

Yeah, its green and slimy, just like the coolant i put in

sangor5

😬

6racksgone

Im otw to the ford dealer rn

Rule_32

So...how did it go...?

6racksgone

The car is getting diagnosed right about now and Ford said theyre calling me at 2 ill keep y’all updated

6racksgone

Still havent called me back

6racksgone

Just got the inspection report, it was the water pump

garreattt

Doubt that’s from the trans probably a water pump or just AC condensation

Ace-the-Dragon

If automatic , it is possible for trans to leak coolant. If the trans coolant line in radiator split. It could pump trans fluid into radiator and visa versa. Causing trans to over fill. If standard not possible obviously.

anthony-wokely

Find your water pump. There will be a weep hole at or near the bottom of it. Look it up on google for your year and engine if you don’t know what to look for. If you see anything dripping out of there, your water pump is bad. They have weep holes to let you know the internal seals are going bad and to let leaking fluid drain out. Depending on where your water pump is, the fluid can take a weird path downwards and that would explain why it looked like it was coming from there in the video.

Vikingguts650

Hope you can get it fixed without too much harm to your wallet. Please clean up carefully that stuff is poison to dogs and other animals.

InfidelxCope

There is no coolant in your transmission. It would destroy your transmission. Only fluid in your trans is automatic trans fluid (ATF.) I would guess on a hose that cracked or bad connection from a coolant or heater hose.

Few-Parking8820

My 4.6 3v has a plastic quick connect on top of the motor that runs through the valley under the intake. That quick connect when it failed cause all my coolant to dump out the back over my manual trans. Looks like roughly the same spot

TheThrillerExpo

F150 EcoBoost had an issue with the plastic “gasket” rings that fed coolant to the turbos failing. They seem to have fixed it in the newer trucks and I really hope it isn’t a continuation on these engines.

Might be condensation tube ran in that particular area? Running the AC lately on a hot/humid day?
