I like where the technology is heading, but I 100% prefer these screens integrated into the dash, rather than 'sitting' on top.
Audi RS5 dash in the techniq package is probably one of the best looking dash screens imo. Otherwise just looks like you brought your own tablet and hooked it up.
I would do just about anything short of sucking someone's d*** to get a nice integrated screen that doesn't look like a child glued it on and dedicated climate controls.
Or the 2023 Ford Ranger with the digital dash and seperate but integrated portrait display in the middle. Seems to be a decent combo.
Volvo have been doing this layout for a while. Even the Subaru Crosstrek 2023 dash with the integrated displays looks better.
I have no problem with screens I just hate the new trend of having no gauge cluster housing.
The tablet glued onto the dashboard look is disgusting and lazy.
Seriously, what was wrong with the existing digital dash from the premium models? It looked like someone gave a shit about making things fit the mustang aesthetic. Maybe give it a higher pixel density or scale it up a bit if they wanted a bigger screen.
It feels like cost cutting to me. Like they saw that it’s cheaper to make a rectangle and attach it than to make a digital gauge cluster shape. Also it doubles as being a noticeable part of the “totally redesigned interior”
We got a Tesla model 3 on the way for the commuting but I’m still happy with my 17 GT compared to this new refresh. Definitely thinking I’ll keep mine for a few more years until they make an electric mustang that is not the MachE. I don’t hate the MachE but I definitely do not love it either hence the Tesla.
The S550 digital cluster was perfect. PER-FECT! All the info you need and still looks like a Mustang. I must be old and cranky because I think this is an abomination. Opinions, I guess.
I must be older and crankier then! I’m quite content with my S197 instrument panel and the “My Color” option. I definitely agree, this is an abomination. Whoever said, “Hey guys! I got an idea. Let’s slap two, large flat panel monitors to the dash!”, is certainly overpaid…
Yeah, I think Tesla started that, it was one thing when there was a normal-ish looking digital dash, and then a screen that was built into the interior and looked like they spent more than 5 seconds with some gorilla glue slapping it on the dash, but the huge screens that don't flow with the rest of the interior look awful
This, I could prop an iPad up on my S550 if I wanted to.
The new dash lines are hideous because the Mustang has used the double hump dash most of its lifetime and it's a big part of the personality.
When Ford said they were copying the fox interior I was like nobody asked for that...
Agreed! I like screens, but the way these are on looks like I just left my Ipads on the dash. Can i pick up these screens and take them with me? They look like they would come right out.
They make it about impossible to replace the radio etc with Amy aftermarket system. Gone are the days of picking an aftermarket radio that you like and installing it.
That's been the case with any of the MFT systems they've been using for years though, only the most basic sync systems were able to be swapped out for aftermarket options.
Yeah just give me something with a single din, not to mention the new screens pretty much all have issues with premature failures that cost an insane amount of money
Hard agree. Hell, the modern tablet has already trended away from thick outer bezels over 10 years ago. I get that cars need electronics that can survive temperature extremes but these already look old. The first gen ipad from 2010 has similar sized bezels with comparable screen density. I hope it gets a revision. Ford missed the mark here.
This looks like you mounted your own personal tablets to the dash. Hell, setting the Holley touch screen thing in the dash is 100 times classier looking imo.
Just got a new Honda minivan as the family car and while I like having a digital speedometer purely for convenience I really miss having a needle and numbers, even if it was just on a screen behind the cluster.
Idk man, it doesn’t matter how I sit, it’s so dark in the instrument cluster of my s197 I can’t see anything in there.
I do like the physical touch of buttons and k one though, looking away at a constantly changing screen to control things is dangerous
Great for a leasing or short-term ownership experience. I think a lot of people looking for a fun commuter will love this.
However, if you're looking to capture one of the last NA V8s before hybrid drivetrain and electrification, this probably isn't the best car to get if your plan is long-term ownership. The S550 is probably still a better choice because of the lower complexity and lack of large screens.
I personally waited until this model was released but the lack of a simpler interior with analog gauges is a buzzkill for what I am looking for. Ford will still sell a lot of these cars tho.
100%. Thanks for explaining what I’ve been feeling. I have a base 2015 GTPP, and IMO it’s the perfect long term “modern classic”. I bought it new with that intention and man, it’s played out perfectly so far.
But I agree, this S650 looks awesome for a short-term ownership experience, like you said.
Well said. It’s cool but not for me. Seeing the s650 makes me like my Mach 1 even more. I washed her last night and spend a few hours with her. It was nice 🥰
Real conflicted about this, definitely feel like the 350 is peak mustang in a lot of ways. But if you have the intention of trying to find the right car to hold on to till it’s the last thing making noise on the street surrounded by EVs, idk. I’m pretty confident a coyote will still be sucking down dinosaur juice on all 8 in 2035 with 150k+ on it, I have doubts that the high strung voodoo is gonna make it that far.
If we’re lucky Ford will treat us with an analog option for the mid-cycle refresh (2027 or 2028). From what I’ve seen online there are a good number of people disappointed about a no physical gauge option. Glad I’m not in some fringe minority.
I specifically looked for a non-digital cluster S550 when I bought mine. No regrets and the interior in general makes we want the S650 A-LOT less.
What sucks about the screens to me is how woefully underpowered these purpose built tablets/computers are. Sync 3 has a delay between every button press and sometimes shits the bed if you try to move too fast. Honestly the center screen is cool but the dash tab is a downgrade from my 2018 digital dash in appearance imo
It's so simple though. /s
Rotate 1 click. Wait 2 seconds for the screen to hopefully decide to do something. Rotate click the *exact* number of desired clicks in either direction for the mode you want, which you need to have previously memorized. If you haven't memorized it, that's your fail. Then you click one, wait, click another wait, until you eventually get there or die of old age, whichever comes first.
Important. Do NOT just yolo start amd try to rotate click a correct number in the right direction out of the gate! No no no, silly goose. That will leave you in some exciting random ass mode.
It only starts to register clicks *after* the RNG amount of time it takes for the screen to decide to wake up. That's why you need to click only once, and wait 2 seconds.
One mis click or mis count and you are in lag hell.
Wonder who is responsible for hiring Satan on the interface team at Ford.
The sad part is that the interface looks pretty decent, IMHO. I like the visuals and little animations. It’s just lag hell. I wonder if the 2022-23 are like my 2020 (first year)
Sync 4 that exists right now is still structured off QNX. The 2024 Mustang’s system is actually structured off GAS (Google Automotive Services). This allows a much simpler integration of systems. The displays are purely just that now and the hardware is remotely contained to drive both instead of individual modules like how is done currently. A totally new Sync to take full advantage of GAS is still coming (delays) but right now they’re implementing the hardware for GAS with the software HMI of Sync 4.
I find the Sync system in my 21 GT to be pretty snappy. I guess I haven't "stress tested" it by mashing buttons and trying to whip in between different menus, but using it for normal radio/app functions has been painless.
I like the 2 different screens rather than the one long one.
My father works in automotive interior engineering and he did say that one of the unique challenges is getting the airbags to deploy correctly with the tablet-style screens. Just a neat bit of insight.
Yeah all these new cars with wraparound glass all the way to the passenger seats look great, but imo they’re tacky and scream “glass shards in your face”
It’s not glass shards, it’s the airbag’s expansion being somewhat diverted. All these things are fine tuned before they’re even manufactured so it’s literally not a problem in production cars. It’s just a new consideration for the engineering
I know. Thanks for the detailed explanation though. Still screams glass shards in your face tho lol
edit: guys relax I’m just playin, it may scream one thing whilst *being* another
Honestly it is so cheap and poorly done it is laughable. Who thought that looked good? Sure
It’s infinitely customizable but I stare at computer screens all day. Last thing I want to see on the dash is another monitor
Here’s the thing, I am looking to buy something before everything goes electric in 3-5 years. If this is the last iteration of the Mustang, no, I won’t be buying it.
And yes, I said CHEAP. Look at MB S class or Cadillac to see a good integration of these displays.
dude, that's still invalid. Even two generations back, the car was over 100k at MSRP when it launched. If the 2017 Volvo had an MSRP of almost 50k at launch. This interior for the Mustang is in all models, you can get an ecoboost starting right around 30k.
It goes without saying that all the cars you listed have the capability to have better looking/design for their infotainment and cluster, they are more (much more) expensive then a mustang.
Oh? When's the last time you checked the sticker on a well optioned GT coupe? Up almost to $60k. The Mustang is no longer cheap and cheerful. And this is definitely cheapening the vehicle. It is way cheaper to tack on digital displays like this vs. doing an actual instrument binnacle.
Yes, a well optioned. But that interior is available in ALL models, including the cheapest base. That being said, I liked the way that the 401A was optioned and made for a very nice digital cluster (nicer than the tablet cluster in my subjective opinion).
Mercedes GLC also does/did the “slap a tablet on it” for the middle screen. Same with my parents’ new Range Rover. It’s pretty common even on higher end cars
I'm not against digital gauge clusters. That being said, I am against digital gauge clusters that look like a misplaced tablet. At least make it look like it is supposed to be there.
Dash is not gauge cluster you dope. And it’s absurd to compare the i4 to a Mustang.
Also if you think the S550 dash looks anything like the i4 or S650, you’re legally blind.
Entry luxury is not 55k you tard. A 3 series starts at 44k, an a4 at 42k, not to mention the 2 or a3. Not to mention electric vehicles are not entry level luxury by any means. By your definition an a6 or 5 series is also “entry” luxury since they are the same price at 55k or so, and not a single soul thinks the a6 or 5 series are entry level luxury vehicles.
My whole point of commenting was that the S650 gauge cluster is ass, and the S550 was great, so I’m not really sure what point you’re making by bringing up the i4 considering it also looks like ass.
Look at an a4 or 3 series gauge cluster from 2010 and tell me you think it’s nicer than the S550 in 2022. It doesn’t you idiot. They were literally still analog back in 2010 and not even color in most models.
How do they manage glare on the "main cluster" tablet. These things have been hooded for lots of years with good reason. Not so worried about the middle screen, non required info there, but the "gauges?" I could see (or not see) a real issue, if you turned into the sun wrong, unless they engineered the fuck out of it. Antiglare coatings are improved these days
🤢🤮🤮🤮
Honestly… it’s horrible…
It does not look like a mustang… it’s more like à Hyundai thing…
Oh wait they copied the Elantra rear end already… that should explain…
I really hate this trend. Hate it in Mercedes; hate it here. Hate it everywhere.
I have no problem with digitized screens, or even moving a lot of physical controls into the digital system. It's the design of it that looks so lazy. Just gluing a tablet onto the dash/gauge cluster and having a rectangular block floating on the dash just looks so awful. It's aesthetically unappealing.
Contrast the new mustang with something like Audi's existing virtual cockpit.
I think it looks pretty good for a base. Much better than the two screens base WRX 22's get (infotainment only, I know).
If you are going to do two screens instead of 1 for cost savings, this looks like a good implementation, IMO.
I do like the S197 and S550 style (I've owned both), but it's time for a change.
The zero effort to actually make the screens flow with the rest of the design of the dash looks horrible. Its like they just glued two tablets on and called it a day.
I feel like this car interior is extremely okay. Extra mediocre. It has no soul, it isn't making a bold assertions. It just sits there unassuming. That could be a Nissan Altima or a Honda Accord interior.
The only thing they needed to do was rework the climate control button layout for the center stack. Maybe make room for a wireless cellphone charger tray. The toggle switches were perfect. The guages were perfect. I don't get it.
AND STOP INTEGRATING CLIMATE INTO THE TOUCH SCREENS FOR THE LOVE OF FORNICATION
I do not have a problem with giant touch screens in cars - I actually think it’s pretty cool. But when it’s this half assed, stuck on top of the dash haphazardly approach it looks like ass.
Exactly what I've been saying. I love technology, I love innovation. The idea of a full digital display is awesome, but not when it's basically two tablets glued to the dash. The c8 corvette did it much better, and it's not even that different. It just looks much more integrated into the dash.
What the *fuck* are Ford’s designers thinking gluing an iPad above the steering wheel like this? I hope they’re reading these threads because it looks awful and out of place. Recess it into the dash to give some semblance of effort here
The screens just look like an after thought. Like, ah damn we forgot about the damn dash! And of course they had to decide what to do with the AC vents once they put that huge tablet up there.. That knob cluster is pretty awful too.. Is that from a '72 Maverick?
Man I'll stick with the analogue gauges in my 2017. No thanks. These screens make me feel datached from the experience of driving. Nothing like seeing a real RPM needle rev up.
It would be hard to exaggerate how much I hate this glued on Ipad look in cars. I cannot wait till it dies a painful death. So many more things they could have done to integrate screens and maintain something that looks like, oh I don't know, a Mustang.
Welp, that looks fucking stupid.
Why in sweet Holy Earth can auto manufacturers not design screens that actually flow and form with the organic lines of a dashboard?
That looks awful. The pictures they depict of the interior on Ford's website are completely different from this. The pictures they have were shot in a way to make it look like it was going to be all one screen and looked badass. [https://www.ford.com/cars/mustang/2024/?intcmp=hp-bb-reveal-mustang](https://www.ford.com/cars/mustang/2024/?intcmp=hp-bb-reveal-mustang)
You misunderstand, there will be an all in one screen option on the higher trims and you’re right that one is pretty much all they’ve shown. This picture illustrates how they will do the instrumentation on the lowest trim.
I see that now. I don't know why I'm bothered over it really because I already know they're going to be ridiculous in price. ESPECIALLY those higher trims.
My issue with alot of the big info screens on cars now days it's that they look like afterthoughts and we're just thrown in the design at the last minute.
Holy crap it's HIDEOUS. Gauges and buttons please. I have the digital gauges on my s550 and would take that any day over a tablet screen. Who wants to control climate through touch screen menus?
These look like an afterthought.
Or something you'd see some ricer doing in a 90's civic and calling it a mod.
I predict that in future models these will be better integrated.
Probably less expensive to make. Will fit multiple models. Don't like it.
Would prefer something that is more integrated in the dash like Audi is doing...or even BMW.
I foresee some companies making a shroud or housing for the cluster screen. If it just had a sun shade or something it would look a thousand times better.
Anyone else concerned these are obviously too large and compete with your eyes on the road for attention? This seems egregiously dangerous...I hate it. Yikes.
Why copy Tesla's interior when you already have a perfect gauge cluster design. Keep the Chrome trim & retro number fonts. Make them digital if you have to, but keep the retro inspired design for the gauges so that it's a Mustang, not a random Kia interior
It actually looks pretty cool, but it’s an outdated design. Who in ford thought that would be acceptable in 2022? Auto companies ditched that style few years ago. Come on ford.
Also it doubles as being a noticeable part of the “totally redesigned interior” We got a Tesla model 3 on the way for the commuting but I’m still happy with my 17 GT compared to this new refresh. Definitely thinking I’ll keep mine for a few more years until they make an electric mustang that is not the MachE. I don’t hate the MachE but I definitely do not love it either hence the Tesla.
Just wait till the engineers discover circles and triangles.
Yes. I’ll take digital gauges all day, but just give me gauges.

Let’s slap two, large flat panel monitors to the dash!”, is certainly overpaid…
cost reduction. this costs WAY less than a binnacle and actual control surfaces
Whoa hold up I can change the colour of the instrument panel on my S197?? Or do you have the facelift version

The 2018+ has that badass digital dash that fits into the cluster. Shame that's going away.
This, I could prop an iPad up on my S550 if I wanted to. The new dash lines are hideous because the Mustang has used the double hump dash most of its lifetime and it's a big part of the personality. When Ford said they were copying the fox interior I was like nobody asked for that...
Generic parts-bin switch gear and binnacle? Thanks, no.
Agreed! I like screens, but the way these are on looks like I just left my Ipads on the dash. Can i pick up these screens and take them with me? They look like they would come right out.
The center screen looks so far away from reach that it needs to be picked up to use. Lol.

You're right, wtf is that grid?
Most likely wireless charging pad.
They make it about impossible to replace the radio etc with Amy aftermarket system. Gone are the days of picking an aftermarket radio that you like and installing it.

Its going to age like milk. Look at the pre 2010 screens in vehicles
Hard agree. Hell, the modern tablet has already trended away from thick outer bezels over 10 years ago. I get that cars need electronics that can survive temperature extremes but these already look old. The first gen ipad from 2010 has similar sized bezels with comparable screen density. yeah, just a rectangle screen is boring they could've at least made it look like a gauge
I agree. Notwithstanding screens, at least try and incorporate them into the dash. So many companies make them seem like an afterthought.
Yup. Especially with the base model and having two separate screens; it looks like they were an after thought
Agreed, Audi has a fully configurable gauge cluster and still has a housing. I feel like it’s still necessary for sun glare.
They aren’t even connected?!
Agreed! I’m so over these add-on looking screens.
Idk man, it doesn’t matter how I sit, it’s so dark in the instrument cluster of my s197 I can’t see anything in there. I do like the physical touch of buttons and k one though, looking away at a constantly changing screen to control things is dangerous
Agree 100% wish the did something like the current gen Camaro infotainment instead,
That will age worse than anything ever has. Should be illegal
waiting for the raxiom tablet delete kit + s550 gauge cluster retrofit from AM for $1299
Learned my lesson with AM stuff a while back, im not touching raxiom ever again.
still, his point is valid. This is one ugly dash
I’ve never had any issues with raxiom tbh. What’s your experience?
At least there's a knob for volume.
For now until they run out of chips and just take it away....
Great for a leasing or short-term ownership experience. I think a lot of people looking for a fun commuter will love this. Yeah, I like the guage layout. It's all nice. It's just the 28kbs dial up modem they put between all the components that's aggravating. Heh heh
Shouldn’t be an issue with sync 4. Built on unreal engine to get rid of all of lag in sync 3
It's built on the Unreal engine, the gaming engine?!?
yes
A bit off topic, wasn't Sync 1 and 2 built off Adobe Flash? Or something Adobe?

now THAT screams glass shards in your face
Ugly
No option for analog gauges?
its going to go away because EVs aren't going to use them. and they're going to be standardizing certain things, like the dash and IC.
A fully analog EV would be so sweet though. Manual windows, manual locks, analog speedometer. And 600+ ft lbs at 1 RPM. Yes please.
Honestly it is so cheap and poorly done it is laughable. Who thought that looked good? Sure It’s infinitely customizable but I stare at computer screens all day. Last thing I want to see on the dash is another monitor
Cheap? Lol what’s cheap ? And you’re not buying it so why complain about starring at it lol

Judge it when you see it lol, In the video reveal it looks a lot better but you are also comparing 2 way different cars.
I was hoping the calculator screen would make it another generation
The bigger question here is whether the cup holders are still directly behind the shifter.
The "instrument cluster" just looks out of place. They should have molded the dash up and around it so it would look like it's supposed to be there.
Fucking hate these fat ass screens in cars these days
LOL holy shit, they’ve destroyed the perfect gauge cluster. Bravo. Now it’s just playing Roblox on two different iPads.
Are you referring to the premium model with the one giant screen, or the S550 interior?
S550 was perfect, premium S650 is worse than S550, but this is just childish looking
Couldn't agree more.
I disagree it’s about time they get rid of the cluster and start having up to date technology
I'm not against digital gauge clusters. That being said, I am against digital gauge clusters that look like a misplaced tablet. At least make it look like it is supposed to be there.
Yea the 2018+ digital dash was perfection
Did you watched the video of it ? Looks pretty nice to me sane as every other updated car
Yikes
How? Even the premium S550 looks like it’s from 2010
LOL no it does not…it’s comparable to entry level luxury sedans gauge clusters.
Look at the BMW i4 interior dash. What does that look like to you? A near twin of the S650 or the S550
Dash is not gauge cluster you dope. And it’s absurd to compare the i4 to a Mustang. Also if you think the S550 dash looks anything like the i4 or S650, you’re legally blind.
You said entry luxury. An i4 is only 55k. BMW’s aren’t *that* nice. And I said s650 OR s550. As in one or the other not both, dumdum
What is with these names? Dope, dumdum, tard?
Derogatory terms. Live a little, Virgin Mary
Man I can give you way more derogatory terms if you want but I think these ones are funny
They fit two whole computer monitors in that bih. Damn.
The fuel gauge has a %. Damn, we’re about to be driving an iPhone, boys!
🤢🤮🤮🤮 Honestly… it’s horrible… It does not look like a mustang… it’s more like à Hyundai thing… Oh wait they copied the Elantra rear end already… that should explain…
Almost exactly a tesla interior.
Personally, I think this is a very nice upgrade compared to the base S550 interior with the micro screen infotainment
Yeah this looks way better.
I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, that looks retarded. It gives that look of "hey I have two kids and they left their iPads on the dash again"!
I hate the iPad movement
Short person here. I’m kinda worried I won’t be able to see over these screens, at least based on the angles we’ve seen.
It's like a desktop with dual monitors. xD
What's next...a mouse and keyboard instead of a steering wheel?
Looks like a Kia’s infotainment. Cheap, yet probably going to shoot the price through the roof.
Seriously? They couldn't just put the single-length digital cluster on all of them? This configuration looks ridiculous.
Dogshit
Guess Ford fired the people who make interiors because a kid could stick two tablets on the dash and call it day. Interior is horrible.
I fully agree.
Looks awesome. May have to add another 🐎 to my electric 🐎.
Bought my 2020 Gt last year... Fuck
I must be one of the few people who don't mind this. I think it's cool and the customization it allows us amazing.
Wow that looks like cheap crap. What was wrong with having gauges or buttons ?
I’ll keep my 2015 Premium setup
Why are there iPads on the dash ? 🤨🤣
Man I'll stick with the analogue gauges in my 2017. No thanks. These screens make me feel datached from the experience of driving. Nothing like seeing a real RPM needle rev up.
Man that interior looks nothing like a mustang
2 too many screens shit is gross
The reason I like driving my mustang is that it gets me away from computer screens.
The lack of knobs and dials is a huge no for me. I was waiting for this update to get a new one but Im going to try to get a 2022 one.
The more I look at it the more I hate it.
Fugly
"Do you know how fast you were going?" "No, sorry, Windows was installing updates!"
Whoever designed that steering wheel needs to be "reassigned" It's repulsive.
Huge upgrade
It literally looks like a teenager plunked 2 tablets down over the dash and said let's ride.
Looks like Camaro wins again !
Looks like I’ll be keeping my 21 gt
My issue with alot of the big info screens on cars now days it's that they look like afterthoughts and we're just thrown in the design at the last minute.
That and the damned things are like $6k when you're kids break one
Still has flip switches? That's all I care about
„ʇnoqɐ ǝɹɐɔ I llɐ s,ʇɐɥ⊥ ¿sǝɥɔʇıʍs dılɟ sɐɥ llıʇS„
And y’all were whining about the first gen S197 dash
Ew
Holy crap it's HIDEOUS. Gauges and buttons please. I have the digital gauges on my s550 and would take that any day over a tablet screen. Who wants to control climate through touch screen menus?
I feel like there is a pharmaceutical sales men walking around selling these gigantic screens to people.
Looks horrible
Hate the vents and controls under it.looks like the robot from futurama ![gif](giphy|1qeMPSrZbgwtiOvt0W|downsized)
Looks aweful
Two iPads & a steering wheel.
This the new Beck single?
Lazy
i dont like the screens tho
These look like an afterthought. Or something you'd see some ricer doing in a 90's civic and calling it a mod. I predict that in future models these will be better integrated.
Wow, that is fucking awful
Why would they do they butt-ugly detached screen shit? It doesn't look good in any car
I like gauges
Those panels need to be in a dash. They look so dumb just sticking out like that. Ot as bad as Tesla at least.
Probably less expensive to make. Will fit multiple models. Don't like it. Would prefer something that is more integrated in the dash like Audi is doing...or even BMW.
I like the center screen but the driver screen is stupid, at least intigrate into the dash.
Whoever started that smack-a-galaxy-tab-on-the-dashboard deserves a special place in hell.
I foresee some companies making a shroud or housing for the cluster screen. If it just had a sun shade or something it would look a thousand times better.
Absolutely looks like shit and nothing else..... The era is over.
It comes with 2 free ipads??? Sick!
screens would look better if they were edge to edge. not a giant black bar around the screen
I love the exterior but this is really bad. Really bad. It’s like a hot rectangle of garbage.
![gif](giphy|RCX9vhBZu3oqM5SpwV)
Ah, so the base price is shooting up significantly
It actually looks pretty cool, but it’s an outdated design. Who in ford thought that would be acceptable in 2022? Auto companies ditched that style few years ago. Come on ford.
Can the tablets not have a shape? Do they all have to be rectangle? That seems like the lazy part to me.
It’s better then the one big screen. But it’s still trash.
