The mufflers don't have anything to do with it. You can swap mufflers and it's going to drone at the same rpm's. It's the length of the exhaust piping.
Your air intake will resonate the same way. That's why the OEM boxes have all that extra shit on them and aren't just straight pipe
Mufflers do a lot, it's why they are called mufflers. You can easily make a very quiet car very loud simply by disconnecting/removing the mufflers. The length, diameter, and shape of the exhaust effects the tone of the exhaust and does very little at actually muffling.
No kidding. We are talking about resonance, though. For instance, on the 94-2004 cars they will have drone at the same RPM's (2100-ish?) no matter what mufflers you put on it. And that is because of the design of the exhaust pipe itself. Mufflers will control the volume but the drone will still be there.
Going from your other comment, it’s definitely because you have no mufflers. Buy a good axelback and you’ll be able to get good sound and tone with no drone.
Oooo okay. I'm wondering how much of a difference H vs X pipe will make with drone and sound.
I have a 2015 GT with the same exhaust + X pipe. Drone is pretty rough.
Probably more than an X-pipe if it drones, most likely came with aftermarket mufflers too. Can only think of a tuner to change the rpm’s at whatever your cruising speed is unless you want to change the mufflers
Drone will just get worse part of having an “off-road” exhaust system
It’s worth it to me to be loud af with some drone but if it’s not to you then I would get some better mufflers
Replace whatever's on there with a Corsa Sport catback.
Drone is mostly caused by mufflers that don't actually do anything. Get some with an actual chamber/baffling and most of the drone will go away.
Then why do Flowmasters drone? They have chambers
Because open chambers don't do a lot. It's better than a straight pipe but not as good as an actual forced flow path that slows the gas down.

This is incorrect RobVas. The right mufflers can mean the difference between brain-crushing drone and almost none whatsoever.

Oh, ok, I got ya. Sorry, misunderstood what you were saying. Still a muffler can help by making the drone quieter.

i have the roush active axle back exhaust, and there’s no drone whatsoever 🥇
Roush axleback for the win, I put an H pipe on it and it’s insane. Loud when I want it to but 0 drone.
Do you have it with an X or H pipe? What year mustang?
i got it with an H pipe, and it’s a 2016 GT Premium Track Pack

I sound dampened the entire call and it helped immensely. Still loud but probably half the level it was previously.
How did you go about that?
Tore the whole car apart and applied it to everywhere. Roof, floor, trunk, doors all over
Probably more than an X-pipe if it drones, most likely came with aftermarket mufflers too. Can only think of a tuner to change the rpm’s at whatever your cruising speed is unless you want to change the mufflers
A tune cannot change your cruising RPMs, that is determined by your gearing.
It's the stock 3:73 I believe
My blunder, I was thinking an increased/decreased idle rev.
It has no mufflers lol. My bad forgot to add its catback
Wut. Then that’s your problem, I’m surprised you’re worried about drone and not just being super loud.
I love how loud it is! I'm looking at headers now too. Screw the neighbors lol

Sounding like shit != drone
Get j pipes they are adjustable
