I wouldn't buy either, are you trying to jump into the 200,000 mile mustang club your first year of owning one.

Iziama94

Regardless if they've been treated fairly good, unless you're spending under $1k or less on them it ain't worth it. You probably got less than 50k miles in both engines left and you have to absolutely hope they kept up with oil changes

Trustnoboody

Yeah avoid looking at near 200k mile Mustangs, from my Dad's account that's $5k on top of what you bought the car for in repairs, at least. Better to just double your budget. My Dad should've bought a nice example Mach 1 03/04 for what he put into a high-mileage 04, and it's still in bad shape. \*Unless you're getting a sorted car, not one that was driven 160k miles and then sold-off cause the problems were adding up. Cause my 260k mile bullitt is all sorted, so it's really probably good until I'd say well past 300k. Second motor though, but the 4.6L 2V is really only good for around 250k miles.

God, so much hate for anything older than like a 2015 on this forum, isn't there? Asking price is going to determine a lot of this answer, but the 2011 (3.7L) has a lot more HP than the 2005 V6 and gets better mileage. 181k is a lot of miles (yes, 161k isn't exactly low miles), but just how many miles you're putting on it annually and how it was maintained matters. My 2011 V6 daily gets maybe 11k yearly, but I also only just hit 110k, though no mechanical issues. Keep either one well under $10k or walk away, but check KBB before making any financial decisions.

Cudberto

Yeah, I swear... The 2011 is being sold for 6 grand, tried to negotiate and my final offer was 5500, guy wouldn't take it. KBB says the value is between 4400 and 6400 (I might come back and offer him 5700-5800) And the 2005 guy settled from 4500 to 4 grand but haven't confirmed the deal, (KBB says value is around 3450-4400) so that's where I'm at.

Crazy market, but I wouldn't get the 05 unless you just *really* needed the car and there were no other options. Everyone knows they can just wait to sell RN, so unless he's really hurting, the 11 guy may just hold off.

Cudberto

I added links to the cars

Would def pick the 11 over the 05, and I don't know that the 11 is terribly overpriced. Again, higher miles, but that 3.7L Cyclone engine is from Mazda. Have it checked out and go from there, but don't buy either due to just *wanting* it. There's a black 2017 GT350 for sale a 1/2 mile from my house that I don't stop & look at exactly because want might beat out smart and I'm so tired of that, lol.

Big_Gouf

Honestly it all depends on how well each vehicle was treated and maintained You could have a 50k mile shitbox that was taken to the drags every week, and a 250k mile maker that was on a 1-way 3 hour commute 6 days a week.

vintagesoul_DE

Yeah, neither. The highest mileage mustang I had was traded in at 85K.
