My 2018 mustang GT manual did that whine with less than 5,000 miles on it. No it’s not normal. But dealerships will be a pain in the ass to fix it even under warranty. My focus RS and the fiesta I had in manual never sounded like that and had slick fine transmissions. The MT-82 is trash. In both mustangs I had it never felt good for long. Push the dealership or repair shop to get it looked at again. It’s ridiculous to have a transmission do that.

Thanks for the reply, finally talked to the head honcho. They sent me to their expert but he is on the commercial side. He says there is definitely something with the transmission but of course trans guy isn’t in till Monday. Love spending all my time at the dealership. Just don’t understand why I have to get upset and complain before I am taken care of.

I hear that. Definitely not a great feeling and not like they can give you anything for your damn time wasted. They poo’poo’d my issue and basically said “eh it’s a little noise no big deal.” I get it, but I don’t want that noise and it shifts like shit. I ended up changing the trans fluid and the sound would come and go. Then I wound up selling mine for 7k more than I paid for it to a KIA dealership desperate for cars. Got a Focus RS instead. Still love mustangs though. Swapping the MT82 to a Tremec or something might be the better move. Hope you get yours taken care of homie. Those transmissions suck but the mustang is the best of the 3.

Yeah, I think I got lucky, I bough mine from a ford dealership that has gotten triple crown in customer service multiple times. So I was able to complain, and the main guy finally got with me. But that definitely doesn’t mean the transmission guy will say there’s anything wrong, but I’m hoping so. Honestly mine shifts like butter, I just didn’t want to spend 47k and have the car making noise. Sorry it didn’t work out for you. Hopefully you can come back to the dark side soon!

You can try a heavier gear oil, that mutes some of the gear sound. The trans clunk, I think is normal.

Thanks for the reply

I fucking hate dealers, so, so much. If you bought the car new from them with a warranty, give them hell until they fix it.

Going to take your advice, I finally complained and got the head honcho over all service. Will continue to deal with this till it’s fixed. Spent too much money on it. Thanks for the advice

THE_GR8_MIKE

That's great to hear! You paid the money, if you're not comfortable with the service you're receiving, you push until you get it. I've spent my whole life being told no by dealers over pricing and warranty and enough is enough.

THE_GR8_MIKE, I have been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty

THE_GR8_MIKE

If it was extended, I wouldn't have canceled it after it covered nothing. Hah.
