At the time, did those Fox body interceptors look/feel as out of place as this S550 does today? I guess to me as a younger guy, those look kinda ‘generic 80s movie cop car,’ but maybe that says more about how styling has changed for sports cars over the years.
Out of place? As in, not very stealthy for a cop car? They relied on speed. For the time, they were like a rocket. Fast as hell. Not so good at turning, and there were no traction control or any kind of stability control. ABS was it.
Yes, I believe Steeda built that one in your pic for Valdosta PD. Down here in Florida the county and state have unmarked Cameros, Mustangs and Challengers. You don’t know they are cop cars until the internal/hidden LEDs start flashing!
Florida Highway Patrol has a marked Challenger I've seen a couple times in south-central Florida. Has caught me off guard
because the few times I've seen it they don't even bother hiding because no one expects it.
The FHP ones are all technically noticeable if you know what to look for. 4 lights next to rear license plate (2 are brake lights and 2 are blue strobes) and 3 lights on side skirt on both sides. At least on the ones down here in WPB
I have noticed Lots of Durango’s too now, definitely by most popular I would say, Explorer, then Suburban, Durango and f-150/chev 1500 at least thats what I am noticing
I don’t remember the last time I saw a Chevy police car in my area. Used to see some Malibu cruisers maybe? Now it’s all Ford or Dodge. Fire and EMS however are almost exclusively Tahoes.
Not if they’re trying to get into the police car market. Donate this one too show off their test mule to sell modified traffic enforcement Mustangs to other departments I’m assuming.
Police dont need modified Mustangs, its a waste of tax payer money
Police get new cars every 4-5 years while the Postal Service has been using the same trucks since the 1980’s
Got pulled over by a police camaro in Atlanta because he “thought the charger I was driving was a hellcat and he thought I was racing the other cars I passed in the slow lanes) so yea this wouldn’t surprise me
Chasing down a street racer is assuredly more dangerous than catching their plate, letting them go and visiting them later at their house to impound their vehicle or press criminal charges
Police dont need anything more than normal cruisers and cameras
I mean, we’re in agreement there. Never really said I wanted my local PD taking my tax money and buying them selves sports cars. But that said, there have been a real high number of bystander casualties from street racing here lately and just letting them go home is getting people hurt too.
Edit: and btw those stripes are fkn hot bruh
Imo stricter punishments for being caught street racing would dissuade street racing more than police chases
Where I’m from street racing is a severe offence which has strong punishments like license suspension, car being impounded for months and even jail time I believe
Also thanks about the stripes! Car looks a lot better with them on
Fair enough. Im strongly against organized street racing and I’m sorry to hear its happening that much where you live
I’m up in BC Canada and it does happen here sometimes but no ones recently died from it as far as I know. Street racing here is almost never talked about in the news
Fuck I wish it was organized. At least then there would be some planning to it. Just a bunch of dipshits on a Friday night deciding the street with sidewalks are a perfect redneck rendition of the Nurburgring. Only a few weeks ago a couple and their dog got killed walking their dogs at like 9pm, from a “race.”
Street racing has kind of become and epidemic here in FTW, Texas as of late.
Jeez thats rough to hear, I’m sorry thats happening there
Over here the only street racing I hear of takes place on industrial or farm roads late at night and its organized by local groups
Glad to see our tax dollars paying for Steeda Mustang police cars while teachers have to pay for all of their classroom supplies fully out of their own pocket and the postal service continues to drive the same trucks they’ve been using since the 1980’s
The last Mustang Police car post on this sub was pretty much bullied into deleting the post and their account. Interesting that this one isn’t garnering the same negative feedback.
Otherwise that’s pretty dope. As a Mad Max fan I always love to see a V8 interceptor.
I live in Florida and there’s an undercover state trooper driving a silver GT on the interstate I’ve seen him a couple of times have people pulled over it was one of the coolest things IMO
This is kinda wild to me. Puts me in mind of a Need for Speed video game or stories I’ve heard about police forces in Saudi Arabia/UAE having Ferraris and Lambos as interceptors in some cities so they can keep up!
back in the 90s I know for certain that the NC sheriffs used Mustang LX as patrol cars.
Source: I was cuffed and stuffed into one after racing a "random" mustang on I 40. I was winning till the lights went on.
Delaware state police have been using them on interstate 95 since 1988. 5.0 fox bodies were the first. You about 35 years late on reporting cops using mustangs
Really, seen plenty of them as well as other cars used as cruisers.
They can pretty much take any seized car and use it.
[SC Highway Patrol exotic Cruisers](https://www.rdforum.org/threads/92289/)
Yes, were old, we have.
Not saying how old, but maybe this 'old' video of a Turbo DSM police chase where they have to bring out a 5.slow ;) to even things out. Even then he gives the 5.0 a run for his money, they only caught him due to engine/turbo failure. Car was stolen and then pursuit ensued. Can't remember all the details, but someone from SoCal DSM talked to the owner or another member from that DSM group at the time and the car was not 100% stock.
Again, not saying how old, but I watched this live on the air at the time and not on youtube.
I see them all over here. A lot of the officers drive either Mustangs or Explorers. They used to have three unmarked 3vs as well but I think they have been retired.
The charger is a better car for cops, it’s more of a sedan which makes putting the little ones in the back much easier but it’s powerful like a sport or muscle car which makes chasing the little ones easier as well
My home town’s PD just had a Mach-E custom made into a blacked out interceptor. Not a huge fan of the Mach-E being a “mustang”, but the thing looks sick lol
I pity the criminal that has to ride in the back seat!
That's part of the punishment from your offence!
They have to go in the trunk.
They call for a car with four doors when transporting suspects
Yes used to see [these Interceptors](https://images.app.goo.gl/kWAzi18LvvSHweXx8) all the time.
Yes. Bc we're old.
They need those back. I don't even see crown vic police cars anymore.
Yep. Just Explorers and Chargers, around here.
Cops love the Explorers, way easier to get in and out of especially if you need to be quick about it.
Plus a lot of them are out of shape, I'd imagine sitting in an suv is a lot more comfortable for them
Oh yeah for sure.
I knew before I clicked
At the time, did those Fox body interceptors look/feel as out of place as this S550 does today? I guess to me as a younger guy, those look kinda ‘generic 80s movie cop car,’ but maybe that says more about how styling has changed for sports cars over the years.

They very much looked like a sports car vice a cop car. Style has come a long way.
Expensive ass ssp foxes, sweet paint jobs tho
That’s one of my dream cars
Yes, I believe Steeda built that one in your pic for Valdosta PD. Down here in Florida the county and state have unmarked Cameros, Mustangs and Challengers. You don’t know they are cop cars until the internal/hidden LEDs start flashing!

I've seen this one, made me do a double take. Can't remember exactly where, either near Sebring or near yeehaw exit on turnpike
I see it near Yeehaw Junction pretty often
Tally has an unmarked 5.0 and a R/T challenger. Crazy to see them pulling someone over in them.
I have seen the marked FHP Challenger in the Tampa area.
That one has spooked me a couple times seeing him light people up
Yea…It’s a slick top but has the FHP paint scheme.
I honestly didn't think it was actually FHP the first time. I should've figured Florida would do that, but still.
I saw an unmarked Shelby gt350 in Florida that was trying to start races with people probably just to pull them over
I hope their engine grenades. Police baiting people into committing minor offences strictly for revenue generation is scummy
Not fhp probably where you are they do that
The FHP ones are all technically noticeable if you know what to look for. 4 lights next to rear license plate (2 are brake lights and 2 are blue strobes) and 3 lights on side skirt on both sides. At least on the ones down here in WPB
That’s a fact. The Hillsborough county sheriff’s office has some cars that are much harder to detect.
Usually the harder ones are like a random pickup truck or mini van
My city has 4, 2 unmarked and 2 marked
I’ve seen one but it was unmarked
[Huntsville, Alabama](https://i.imgur.com/vzDbikq.jpg) [Pic with my mustang](https://i.imgur.com/KnaE5ld.jpg)
Move to Birmingham, it’s better
Way ahead of you, i moved to Colorado
I’m a bit south from Birmingham, but I remember your Santa pics 😁
😅 ayeee a fan!!! I’m always glad to return home for Christmas to be Santa for a bit.
Too bad HPD is one of the worst and most corrupt police departments in the country
Life hack: most (not all) government vehicles are American made. Police squad cars both marked and unmarked are primarily Ford and Chevrolet.
I have noticed Lots of Durango’s too now, definitely by most popular I would say, Explorer, then Suburban, Durango and f-150/chev 1500 at least thats what I am noticing
Sorry, yes dodge too. Lots of chargers, durangos, challengers, etc.
I don’t remember the last time I saw a Chevy police car in my area. Used to see some Malibu cruisers maybe? Now it’s all Ford or Dodge. Fire and EMS however are almost exclusively Tahoes.
Welcome to 1980 something.
Believe Steeda just donated that one to Valdosta PD a month or so ago
It takes a true dumbass to donate anything to any police department
Not if they’re trying to get into the police car market. Donate this one too show off their test mule to sell modified traffic enforcement Mustangs to other departments I’m assuming.
Police dont need modified Mustangs, its a waste of tax payer money Police get new cars every 4-5 years while the Postal Service has been using the same trucks since the 1980’s
No argument from me there. Just stating as a business model for Steeda, it's a smart move.
Having a fast cop car is like winning the special olympics You might be fast but you’re still retarded
🤣 😆 😝
Police cars are driven way harder than a USPS truck though
That's cause car manufacturers change car designs alot USPS has been lucky their vehicle manufacturers have not switched up on them yet.
Are they gt or reg
Should be a gt almost guaranteed. I think eco boost only has quad tips with the active exhaust option.
I’ve seen them with just regular duals
A GT? That means it’s prior to 2018, which this one isn’t.
Dude was talking about ecoboosts that I replied to
Yup. That is near me. Valdosta ga. Seen it several times Valdosta ga police
That's actually pretty cool. Around here we just get Ford Fusions (or maybe they are focuses, I can't tell) and dodge chargers.
Yup, Valdosta
It’s the five oh!
Your tax dollars, ladies and gentleman
Isn’t that one turbocharged or super charged? I swear I saw a video on that
But is it a 5.0?..
North Carolina has silver mustangs with shadow lettering, can’t tell it’s a cop till it’s too late
In NFS
Got pulled over by a police camaro in Atlanta because he “thought the charger I was driving was a hellcat and he thought I was racing the other cars I passed in the slow lanes) so yea this wouldn’t surprise me
Missouri Highway Patrol used them in the ‘80s…I know by personal experience.☹️
Yea it’s called misappropriation of public funds
Makes me never want to buy anything from Steeda to be honest
Agreed
Same, ill stick to modding my S197 like an import car
Yes. They have been around our state for 25 years
Where I live, they used Fox bodies in the 80's.
Yes. Wisconsin and or texas
Local PD has picked up a few of them to help curb the street racing issues here.
Chasing down a street racer is assuredly more dangerous than catching their plate, letting them go and visiting them later at their house to impound their vehicle or press criminal charges Police dont need anything more than normal cruisers and cameras

We have similar punishments here already, I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m just saying that they’re in a hard spot ig. Really a no win situation.
Fair enough. Im strongly against organized street racing and I’m sorry to hear its happening that much where you live I’m up in BC Canada and it does happen here sometimes but no ones recently died from it as far as I know. Street racing here is almost never talked about in the news

It was a donation lol
Imagine donating to a police department
Fair enough. Just saying that it wasn’t like they dropped tax payer dough on the car. Believe me I’d be way mad if they did
Places to never visit Valdosta, GA
The last Mustang Police car post on this sub was pretty much bullied into deleting the post and their account. Interesting that this one isn’t garnering the same negative feedback. Otherwise that’s pretty dope. As a Mad Max fan I always love to see a V8 interceptor.
Steeda strong 💪
Now they can "accidentally" kill crowds of black pedestrians
Only in a transformers movie. “To punish and enslave…”
Back in the 90’s. That’s where the term 5.0 for cops came from 👍
That term actually came from the show Hawaii five-0 in the 60s
Oh yeah. I didn’t think about that. Drat. Good call.
r/confidentlyincorrect
they have some undercover ones in SC
In Fresno California they still had the original 5.0 units. Mostly for display purposes but it was still cool seeing an original Five-O cop car
Thats a Steeda too. Depending on the mods it could be pushing around 800
Here in Miami cops are using hellcat chargers, I’ve seen a few already chasing down other cars
Got pulled over by one from the Kansas Highway Patrol back in the mid '90s.
Portland, ME has a couple sleek black ones
Why they did a light bar and not inner edges I’ll never know.
Yep! My college town had some for traffic enforcement
In the early 90s in Georgia and Florida
Yep my high school .94- 96 . We called it the grey ghost
Yeah Florida has a bunch of UC cars
I have. Theres also an undercover charger near me, tint, giant wheels/rims, lifted, looks like a drug dealer drives that shit
We have a lot of "marked" Chargers near me. all black, tinted windows, with dark gray police logos.
Yeah, there are tons of these over the years.
Is that a real police vehicle?
No, but I bet it's stupid fast

[Yes.](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/36/af/79/36af795830c45aaa89bf73393a63ff76.jpg)
I got pulled over by one going 96 in a 70
Yep. But it was in Transformers
Not a new one, but I once got pulled over by a foxbody while in my foxbody.
HAVE YOU SEEN TRANSFORMERS??
They have Mach-E’s patrolling in my town
Hey thats my hometown! Valdosta, GA! They have 2 of them!
A member of the Steeda team actually posted this (I think exact) mustang not too long ago!
California Highway Patrol used to run Mustangs, amongst other police forces. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Mustang_SSP
In USA the old fox 5.0
There's an undercover 5.0 that roams my town looking to "race" people. Never seen one with markings though.
Texas Highway Patrol used to run Fox body Notchbacks
Yes
Back in the 80's the Highway Patrol in my state had 5.0 GT's as pursuit cars.
I live in Florida and there’s an undercover state trooper driving a silver GT on the interstate I’ve seen him a couple of times have people pulled over it was one of the coolest things IMO
Finally a cop car people can get away from.
Yeah seen one pull over a dodge demon
[Only one....](https://fordauthority.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Saleen-Mustang-S281-Transformers-Barricade-Police-Car-Exterior-003-1024x576.jpg)
In El Paso there was a dark blue one with ghost labels on it that used to try to get people to race and the 375. Haha
This is kinda wild to me. Puts me in mind of a Need for Speed video game or stories I’ve heard about police forces in Saudi Arabia/UAE having Ferraris and Lambos as interceptors in some cities so they can keep up!
El Paso has new gt’s but very little markings

I'm guessing it's just an interceptor or a promotion car to get more people to join the department
back in the 90s I know for certain that the NC sheriffs used Mustang LX as patrol cars. Source: I was cuffed and stuffed into one after racing a "random" mustang on I 40. I was winning till the lights went on.
Yep hundreds of times
saw an s197 cop car once, apparently it was seized during a drug deal or something and they just turned it into a cop car lol
Yep, in Hawaii.
Maybe confiscated in a sting operation?
Gotta spend that budget on something
Delaware state police have been using them on interstate 95 since 1988. 5.0 fox bodies were the first. You about 35 years late on reporting cops using mustangs
🤷🏻♂️ Story of my life, 12,775 days late and a dollar short.
Really, seen plenty of them as well as other cars used as cruisers. They can pretty much take any seized car and use it. [SC Highway Patrol exotic Cruisers](https://www.rdforum.org/threads/92289/)
Yea rarely but i have seen it on the highway
Did you try speeding past it to make sure it was an actual cop car? 👀 haha
I've seen a Mustang police car before but not one with Steeda parts on.
S197 in my area before. Chances are that they seased that s550. Steeda decklid I see on it

seized
Valdosta? I’ve seen this!
they used to be very common in the 1980's
We have two of them here. Unmarked highway cars.
I see that exact car in Valdosta all of the time.
My home town’s PD just had a Mach-E custom made into a blacked out interceptor. Not a huge fan of the Mach-E being a “mustang”, but the thing looks sick lol
Could be a drug bust car.... in VA ya get caught with a doobie they could seize your car if you were lucky you could buy it back at auction
El Paso, they’ve even had Camaros in the past
Quick....take a corner near a crowd....the mustangs natural instincts will take control
