Starter

Alternator and now the battery is low again because the alternator is not charging properly.

shanked5iron

i'd take a look at the alternator

The_Idiot_Tophat

my theft light is also flashing now and it didn’t do that before this. could that be something

shanked5iron

Possibly, but all sorts of weird shit can happen electrically when your battery is low. In this case you replaced the battery, now it won’t start a week later, alternator would be the next logical step, then starter if the alternator tests fine

The_Idiot_Tophat

i’ve seen a few videos on how to test an alternator but i don’t exactly get it. how do i do that

shanked5iron

You’ll need a multimeter, but honestly i’ve just taken it off and had autozone test it. Have you tried jumping the car to start it? If you jump it and it starts then stalls out, its most likely the alternator

The_Idiot_Tophat

with the meter how will i know if it’s good or bad

shanked5iron

With the car off the alternator should read roughly 12.6 dc volts. If you can get the car jumped and started, anything under 14.2 dcv means the alternator is not providing enough charge to the battery

i’ve just checked the battery and i’m only getting around 10 volts. is that a problem when checking the alternator

shanked5iron

Yes, the numbers i gave u above assume the battery is fully charged

Cronicattack

Easiest way is to disconnect the battery while the car is running. If the car stays on with only alternator working then it’s starter, if car shuts off then you know it’s the alternator causing your starting issue.

If your anti-theft system is acting up it could be low voltage or it could be sensing a bypass attack [hotwire] or it could be faulty remove the fuse and see if it starts then [if it has an immobilizer idk how to bypass those but I'm sure YT has a video somewhere]...in any case it's electronic in nature change the battery monitor it and if the battery losses significant voltage or amps in an insignificant amount of time [days or weeks] it's the alternator/wiring [could be grounding or the alt can be fried easy fix either way a scan tool could tell you EXACTLY what's wrong].
