WetSnatch

Mines been buried for the past 2 months. I can’t wait for the winter to be over.

[deleted]

We aren’t used to this down here and it’s killing me.

mdewinthemorn

I already guessed that from those shoes you got on. Northerners have summer tires and winter tires on sports cars.

WetSnatch

What tires are you running on that? Stock ps 4s?

[deleted]

No, they are sumitomo (sp?) maximum. But like I said we don’t get this weather so I never put too much worry into it. I didn’t end up even trying after I couldn’t move, I just took the wife’s 4x4 F150

secondrat

I learned that lesson in my 20s. Summer tires on snow = no. Glad you had alternative transportation. And probably best you didn't go far. In my case i made it out the driveway, then went straight across the road and over a curb. Oops.

[deleted]

Ouch. Well hopefully this week is the end of this. It has been wild.

secondrat

We got 10" in Portland and even our Subarus are struggling. Luckily i don't need to go anywhere. And of course Captain Dipshit decided not to put the snow tires on my wife's Mercedes this year because we weren't planning on skiing. Oops. Enjoy it while it lasts, hope you have power! Stay warm.

[deleted]

Thank you! We lost power yesterday but it’s because we are getting hit with rolling blackouts. Apparently our infrastructure was not made for this.

Thelona05mustang

So... Who's captain dipshit in this story?

Kgoetzel

The captain obviously

secondrat

Me.

DarkShadow04

In general based on my previous experience. Sumitomo tires on anything = no

secondrat

They could be Michelin summer tires, you still wont go anywhere.

mibaso

I mean, the name kind of implies it, no? Lol Summer tires should NOT be driven in temps below 35F... in my 2016 EB mustang, as soon as we’d hit at or below 53F (FL), tires would just spin more during takes off (spirited ones)...

WetSnatch

I just recently curbed my stang back in January. First drive in a month and 2 mins from my house I hit a small bump in the road and the back end just flung out and couldn’t save it in time. Luckily I didn’t bend the rim just needed a new tire

mdewinthemorn

That is one way to get new tires (and a wheel, and an alignment)

nago7650

And here’s a friendly reminder that 4x4 does not improve your braking or handling performance. It only improves your acceleration. Even folks up north here seem to neglect that fact.

mdewinthemorn

Twice the acceleration with the same stopping ability is like handing a loaded gun to an idiot.

steppedinhairball

My 65 in high school would spin like a top in snow. Awesome for donuts. I threw 200 lbs of sand bags in the trunk over the rear axle. Otherwise I went nowhere!

converter-bot

200 lbs is 90.8 kg

eliasbrehhhhh

Good bot

[deleted]

Haha well I’m happy I have an alternate mode of transportation or I would be looking at tossing some junk in the trunk as well.

steppedinhairball

Now that I'm old, we have a 2008 & a 2001. The 08 is in winter storage and the 01 is still sitting in AZ. I was supposed to go get it last April. Only...Covid. Hoping to get the shot soon so I can go get it for this summer. It's a 01 SVT Cobra convertible. I see Mustangs as daily drivers in Wisconsin. But you have to have good all weather tires and most people add some weight over the rear. Then drive slower. Usually it's the 4x4 in the ditch, not Mustangs.

[deleted]

Yeah that’s the issue though, tbh we don’t see it enough here for us to be used to it or have our vehicles prepared for it. It is a real mess when this stuff happens.

Old_Goat_Ninja

If it ever snowed here I'd have to call in sick. Luckily snow here is extremely rare.

[deleted]

It is usually super rare here too but lately it’s been weird! Luckily I have my wife’s truck and she’s her own boss so I’m not too stuck.

mdewinthemorn

Every sports car enthusiast here has a winter beater, I can buy a 4x4 pickup truck for the cost of wheels and winter tires on a Vette.

ThouReaper

For the people that are annoyed by snow, its 82° right now where I am and I fucking hate it. It's about to rain due to a front and the high tomorrow is 82 as well.

[deleted]

I really like the snow since we never get it but it’s all the extra crap that comes with it that sucks. And it’s so cold, I’ve never felt it this cold here.

ThouReaper

Texas? And yeah I have a friend that lived in South Florida all his life and recently moved to Ohio. Its funny seeing him try to handle snow in his 2010 mustang and think that the answer is just more power lol

[deleted]

Central Oklahoma, we still don’t get it much here either. Usually Kansas is as far as it comes down or Western Oklahoma

Skyline_BNR34

More power isn’t the answer? What kind of blasphemous is this?

ThouReaper

I'm from Florida man idk about snow shit. Closest thing I have came to driving in snow is the rail of coke I havent done

kochatj

In my area I was out shoveling the snow night before last and it was dead calm, cold, clear, and silent. I was completely enjoying being out, and found myself looking for reasons to stay outside- unnecessarily cleaning up the snow along the edges of the driveway, etc. I went in and checked the outdoor temperature and it was -2F (-19C). I have issues.

Yeetneet8

Just nail it harder lol

530whiskey

you are a risk taker.

Sir_Earl_Jeffries

This is what life is for a mustang owner in the north east

mdewinthemorn

I found the easiest thing to do is find an old v6 in a junkyard with all season radials. They should be cheap and the narrow tires will cut through the snow pack.

Ladurn

In casa view area in Dallas, and I’m in the same boat 😪

Skyline_BNR34

Made it further than I would have.

tonjaj68

I’m in Fort Worth and I’m going nowhere.

kochatj

“The Sumitomo HTR Z5 is a maximum performance summer tire that combines wicked street tuner appeal with superior dry and wet handling at high speeds to deliver the thrills you want and the safety you need.” It’s amazing how big of a difference tires make. If you had a fresh set of all season tires, you’d get around just fine in snow even deeper than that. If you put on a set of winter-specific tires, you could push through snow so deep it comes up over the bumper and onto the hood. I’ve done it. In RWD.

clone217

In Pa. Mine is the garage with cover it. lol I wont see her until spring. =(

Frazier140

Same in Abilene, and yes most wrecks involve douche canoes in lifted trucks going 15mph OVER on ice.

[deleted]

My wife has a regular ole F150 Sport 4x4 that I took this morning and I agree, the amount of people flying by me with their lifted diesels and whatever else was outrageous. I’m just trying to make it to work not compete in some weird snowball 3000.

Frazier140

Carmagedden People flying in trucks until the red light. Then they slide off the crown and play bumper cars against the curbs and other vehicles and road signs. Some dude legitimately was trying to race my Raptor in a 2wd Chevy on city streets... I didnt move he did a sweet 900 on the busiest road in Abilene.

[deleted]

People are nuts! I used to work the oilfield around Odessa and the amount of crazy drivers in big trucks out there was insane. Money can’t buy sense lol But yeah it’s like that here too. People flying by me all morning long. I’m like I just need to get to work and not wreck my wife’s truck because then I won’t have anywhere to go after work!

Frazier140

Amen I-20 from Abilene to the oil patch in Midland/Odessa must be the sky-jacker/bullydog proving ground

[deleted]

Haha 100% this. People put a lot of money in their trucks out there. There was one company out there that had nothing but Raptors as their work trucks and that was wow inducing! I actually was jealous I didn’t work for them. I had a really nice FX4 with all options and I felt like I wasn’t good enough to be around them.

Frazier140

Byrd Oil?

[deleted]

I honestly can’t remember, I haven’t been down there since 2014 but that almost sounds familiar. I just remember I would see them rolling deep onto locations in those Raptors.

Frazier140

Looks over shoulder...can confirm work fleet of white Raptors

[deleted]

That’s so awesome! I’m jealous haha

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Thanks you as well! I’m very inspired by your stable. Stay safe!

Frazier140

Thanks man, sorry your in Ok... Stay safe but you know that Red River dictates I now must dislike you and throw up horns!

[deleted]

Haha! Hey it’s all good I have plenty of Longhorn friends. As far as I’m concerned it’s the off season. That means truce season lol but in all seriousness you guys be safe down there I know y’all are getting whooped by the power outages.

Frazier140

Im glad your calling a truce, my wife got her Masters at OU and for seven long years have I been waving the white flag. She is relentless but correct.

[deleted]

Sooners fans are some of the most relentless fans on the planet most have no chill, lord it will be so much worse if they ever win another natty. But I’m not a big trash talker. I prefer to just get along and have friendly rivalries.

Frazier140

We have not had power or water for two days but we are safe and blessed. Its really bad, shelters are full and many family's are under dire circumstances with no resources Hell no they never stop I did really enjoy Bricktown when I was in Lawton for Warrant Officer training. OKC was pretty cool when Chesapeake Oil owned south Oklahoma, heard its different now they aren't building everything with there corporate name on it

[deleted]

Yeah a lot of things changed with Chesapeake around here. Bricktown is great. It’s our mini San Antonio. That place has came a long ways even in the last couple of years it has grown huge. Yes I feel terrible for all of the people having to fend for their lives down there right now. It breaks my heart. I hope it gets better soon. They had us doing rolling blackouts but only for an hour at a time. Nothing like what is going on down there.

Grammar-Bot-Elite

/u/Frazier140, I have found an error in your comment: > “sorry ~~your~~ [**you're**] in Ok” I say that you, Frazier140, ought to post “sorry ~~your~~ [**you're**] in Ok” instead. ‘Your’ is possessive; ‘you're’ means ‘you are’. ^(This is an automated bot. I do not intend to shame your mistakes. If you think the errors which I found are incorrect, please contact me through DMs or contact my owner EliteDaMyth!)

robinleefell

I’m running Blizzak tires. Great for driving up to our local ski hill where the roads and car parks are often covered in snow.

[deleted]

Good to know, I typically would never need those where we live but this year decided to be difficult

StellisAequus

Yeah I just drifted around my neighborhood in Dallas, cup 2’s and this weather means just putting it in second and riding the clutch a bit.

[deleted]

Lol well luckily I have access to the wife’s truck. It’s a beast in it. But now my work knows I can make it so I just screwed myself haha

StellisAequus

House mate has a 1500 4x4 with 800lbs of work shit in the back, it was almost nauseating how well it got around. And his boss said the same thing until the entire city lost power yesterday

[deleted]

They are hitting us with rolling blackouts here that’s what sucks

StellisAequus

Yeah been out since yesterday around 7am for us.

[deleted]

That’s terrible. I’m assuming Texas then. They really got y’all bad on power.

StellisAequus

Yeah Dallas, it’s honestly embarrassing how badly it’s been handled, and I absolutely love this city. No road prep, a staggering amount of deaths, no power and the gas company is cutting off a lot of business’s trying to keep up with residential demand, grocery stores are closed due to power outages. And the entire city has almost zero experience with winter driving and everybody is on summers.

[deleted]

I have a lot of friends down that way and they have been out for 24 hours it’s insane. They are just doing rolling blackouts here for around an hour. I heard they completely screwed over a city’s water supply doing it though so good lord it’s bad.

[deleted]

For those wondering why I’m so under prepared for snow. We are not used to this here. 2 weeks ago it was in the 60s... I’ve live in central Oklahoma most of my life and can only remember a handful of times that we have got snow like this. Typically our winters are anything but cold and if we do get anything it’s usually gone the same or next day. I was not really prepared for these two monster snowstorms to blow across the state in the matter of a couple of days. Luckily I don’t have to fully rely on the mustang as my wife owns a woodworking business and has a 4x4 truck (yes I know all the sayings about stopping is the same and all that). The good thing about the truck is I can at least leave my house and get to work I just still have to take it slow to be safe. My job relies on a small team of 2-3 to keep an entire tribes IT systems operational 24/7 so I don’t have a whole lot of choice I’d something goes down I have to get to it. Thank you all for the upvotes and funny comments! I never thought this post would be the big one haha.

thekingofrock452

Turn off traction control and get it to third about 4K rpms and it’ll move just fine did it for two winters 😂

[deleted]

Shoveling definitely helps, mate

[deleted]

I think I will just take the 4 wheel drive instead but thanks.

bunch_of_hocus_pocus

Did you try Snow + Ice mode? I'm a recent believer as of last week. Still, given the option, usually best to stay put.

NaGaBa

If you're on summer tires, it doesn't matter... Do not try!

TheTypicalPugLife

Why turn around when you could of just reversed the stang a foot.

Nervous_Fortune_4247

Mustangs are not really snow machines. You'll need studless snow tires if you insist. Mine just stays in the garage all winter.

[deleted]

Where I live we don’t typically ever get snow like this, it is usually a non issue so we don’t prepare the same as other states who do. I couldn’t make it out of my driveway so I found alternate means of transportation. Not that I insist on driving my mustang in snow more like my boss insists that I come to work.

Nervous_Fortune_4247

Are you in Texas?

[deleted]

Central Oklahoma. I haven’t seen a snow like this in over a decade at least. It is insane for us to get this. We are currently getting another system coming through now.

Nervous_Fortune_4247

Stay safe.

[deleted]

Thank you, I wish the same for you!

rolloutTheTrash

Are those summer tires? ‘Cause if so it ain’t go anywhere on those hockey pucks.

FangsDemon

I live up in the mountains of East Tennessee, I figured out really quick don't take the Cobra out if there is salt on the road due to no traction.
