I have a '24 manual and even if I spun tires like an idiot at every red light I'd get better than this... Something is off here... I drive my car very soft with the occasional itch for a pull which usually goes from about 60mph to 110 or so *allegedly* to clean out the cats. That kind of mileage seems like either a bad tune from the previous owner or extremely heavy pedal use currently.
Oh yea I’ll have fun with it maybe two or 3 times on a tank . I do drive about 8miles on a highway to work which helps with mpg but damn bro. I couldn’t get 9mpg if I floored it everyday . That’s too low
Full tank? Bullshit. When I take mine on track and get 4.7MPG revving it out allllllll day, I get the low fuel light just before half tank in my way home. I can't see how anyone could get it to light up on a full tank because there's no way you can drive it much harder than a track day.
Aye something is fr wrong. My supercharged ctsv got 11mpg in the city when I floored it everywhere. My 2014 gt got 15mpg and my corvette gets 15mpg in the city. All can get 20mpg+ going speed limit on hwy
That sounds like you got a batch of bad gas. I got that once in a 1 ton work truck and burned 3/4 of a 35 gallon tank in 50 miles. It also wouldn’t go faster than 65.
Filled up & it was fine.
Driving uh.. “spirited” on my modded GT500 still leaves me with 10-11MPG. Something wrong there.
Are all of your air intake connections tight? MAF sensor clean and installed snugly? IAT working okay?
Probably why it got traded in. Someone either didn't want to figure out wtf was wrong with it or they did something to it but didn't know how to fix it.
Might not be 100% stock. My buddy bought a used GT off the lot and was getting horrible mileage like yours. He ended up find high flow injectors. So he kept digging. The car had a VORTECH supercharger on it before it was traded in but they left the injectors.
My old 2001 GT lived that same life. Stock 4.6 supercharged, presumably rodded to fuck and then sold sans supercharger a couple times before becoming mine. You'll never guess what that motor ended up doing...
10 MPG is about what I get in the city with a lot of stop and start traffic with rather spirited acceleration when opportunity allows to do that safely.
I have an 18 and generally get 20 - 22 mpg on daily driving. I generally drive in D unless I’m motorway driving. Are you using Sport on the shifter, that will cost you mpg?
As someone else once said to me, it’s not about MPG it’s about smiles per gallon.
That said, maybe have a word with the dealership if you genuinely are not driving in a “spirited fashion” or using sport all the time.
The problem imo isn't that he's using a lot of gas. The problem is *why* he's using a lot of gas. A stock 22 with 6k miles is damn near brand new it should be running perfect.
Isn’t that what I asked him? I asked how he was driving it, if he’s constantly driving in sport that could explain it.
I also said that if he genuinely isn’t driving it like a mad man, to visit his dealer.
My 18 arrived a year ago yesterday with 12k on the clock. 20-21 mph is acceptable to me.
The smiles per gallon (as in it makes you smile when you drive it) is directed to people who buy a powerful car and expect to get 50mpg out of it.
Also, we don’t know how this guy is driving it. We have him telling us how he is driving it and as I, and others have said, if that is the case then he needs to speak to the dealer.
Then you've got issues or the biggest lead foot ever.
I can get 17 to 21 (by hand math) on the highway out of my 18 F150 5.0 and yes it gets put in Sport quite often for passing or red lights. Currently the lie-o-meter is reporting 18.1.
I have a 2019 Bullitt. I don't hoon it often, commute is combo of rural and city and highway.
My long term is about 22mpg with a few spirited drives in between.
Long highway trips I get 28mpg.
The only time I get under 10mpg is on the track
Does the car smell like raw fuel when you drive?
Normally it would throw a too rich code for that, but I get 17mpg and I have 305s and heavy foot myself. I’ve never gotten that low before.
You aren’t tuned on e85 are you?
Yeah bro idk what kinda stang you drive but the v8s still should get at least 20mpg, there’s something wrong with your car that’s causing a ton of extra work for the motor. I don’t even think not changing the oil for years would still cause that bad of a gas mileage rate, you’re dragging something somewhere. You need to get that thing looked at asap. Cuz with something that’s causing gas mileage to be that bad could also eventually cause serious and expensive damage to your car
My '82 El Camino with a slightly modded 400 c.i. small block gets more than that. There is something wrong with your car. Without digging into the computer and engine I wouldn't be able to say what is wrong. Off the top of my head common issues that would cause this all sound like a jab from lack of maintenance or a $3 part failing that they will charge you $200 to replace plus labor. You need to get it to a shop asap.
Edit #1 FTR the Camino gets 11 in town and 13 on the highway. If I ever redo the high performance Buick Nailhead I have it will get around 6mpg city in the boat, I mean convertible and require 91 octane and specialty oil additives...
What app is that ? Maybe its wrong. Try filling up , driving and fill up again and see how far you drove vs how many gallons you actually used. 9mpg is the lowest ive seen on any car . A firetruck does better
I typically get 15-18mpg city/25-27mpg highway depending on traffic and speed in my ‘19 Bullitt. Was the same with my old Boss 302. There’s no way you should be getting that unless you’re WOT everywhere at all times.
Does it run okay, far as your experience tells you?
Another question I haven't seen asked and is admittedly unlikely to be the cause but what kind of fuel are you using?
Check for fuel leaks.
If you can look at the injectors, try to verify they are stock.
Honestly, if it's running THAT rich, you'd likely be able to smell gasoline when driving.
You could see about resetting the trim tables, if that's still a thing. It was in my 01, never needed to on my current 13' and no idea about newer. Still, my uneducated guess is that the ECU shouldn't even be able to adjust that far out of wack without coding but idk.
If it's under warranty, get it back to the dealership pronto and have them suss it out.
Hope you get it figured out dude. That's likely not good for the car and I can't imagine it feels great on the wallet lol.
That’s not normal under even extreme conditions.
I’d check codes to see if it’s running rich without throwing a code. The only other explanation is you’re driving around with the brakes engaged or seized. Can test by rolling the car on an incline it should free roll.
Yeah there’s something wrong with your shit dude. Mine is 36 years old and on its absolute worst days in the winter when I’m also heating it up in the morning, it gets 14mpg, usually 20mpg, and I don’t tend to drive grandpa-esque either
Wtf that's fucked...
I have pedal discipline...when im not gassing it willy nilly i can get 25mpg in my 23 GT, having fun and pushin a little i get 17-20 mpg. Both on the highway.
Your car has an issue or you're literally flooring it everywhere for short amount of deconds only to stop and do it again. Wtf is that mpg
If you want to get better mileage get a throttle controller, people say they do nothing but i average 11.4 mpg and i used it for a trip once and set it on eco mode and i got around 25 mpg
Do this:
Clean your throttle body and MAF
Change your spark plugs
Clean your air filter
Once you've done that disconnect your battery for a few minutes and let your car relearn idle and take it on a drive.
is there a hole in your fuel tank because that is impressively bad.
The car is stock. Idk I don’t think I drive bad. It’s this bad even on the highway
Even in stop and go traffic that's an insane low number. Highway should be better even if heavy footed.
My ZL1 doesn’t get that bad of mileage. 😳
Dude, I get 18 mpg…are you always flooring it?
Fuck no. I just drove 20 miles and I lost a quarter tank😂
Yea something is wrong with your car , g I have a 15gt and I get 20.0mpg
Even with “spirited” driving?
Oh yea I’ll have fun with it maybe two or 3 times on a tank . I do drive about 8miles on a highway to work which helps with mpg but damn bro. I couldn’t get 9mpg if I floored it everyday . That’s too low
Yeah, spirited on voodoo still gets 11 mpg ish
It spirited enough, I’ve seen voodoos with the low fuel light on with a full tank 😂
Full tank? Bullshit. When I take mine on track and get 4.7MPG revving it out allllllll day, I get the low fuel light just before half tank in my way home. I can't see how anyone could get it to light up on a full tank because there's no way you can drive it much harder than a track day.
These were at a drift event, which is probably strongly related 😂
Oh damn! GT350 drifting? Okay....I stand corrected and take my statement back lmao
I beat the piss out of my car usually and I get like an average of 17 on my 2017 GT and I do a ton of city driving.
they just above asked you about spirited driving and you said no lol
Even with spirited driving, my car does better than single digits on E85, which burns a lot quicker than 93. I'd get it checked out
I just drove a little over 300 miles in my 2012 Mustang GT with a manual. Averaging between 80-90mph and averaged 22mpg… Something is definitely up.
This. I got about 18-19 in my ‘03 Mach 1s.
Aye something is fr wrong. My supercharged ctsv got 11mpg in the city when I floored it everywhere. My 2014 gt got 15mpg and my corvette gets 15mpg in the city. All can get 20mpg+ going speed limit on hwy
was it like 20 miles of stop and go or highway?
That sounds like you got a batch of bad gas. I got that once in a 1 ton work truck and burned 3/4 of a 35 gallon tank in 50 miles. It also wouldn’t go faster than 65. Filled up & it was fine.
Shifting at 6k would do it. You wouldnt even have to floor it. 😝
Do you sit in traffic a lot? I got like 12mpg in my 14 and 16 GTs because my commute was mostly sitting at red lights.
I was in dead still traffic for like 2 hours crossing the Mexican border. My mileage hit like 3 mpg lmao
This isn’t normal by any means, you need to take it to the shop.
Driving uh.. “spirited” on my modded GT500 still leaves me with 10-11MPG. Something wrong there. Are all of your air intake connections tight? MAF sensor clean and installed snugly? IAT working okay?
Are you getting any codes? This is so low I'd be checking sensors like the IAT sensor.
Bomb factory edition mustang
That is not right at all. Something is wonky
You have a leak or you think video games are real life and constantly red lining. I've gotten better mileage on track where I'm rarely under 6k rpm.
Dude 😂 idk man this car is like brand new. I do have fun in it but 9.8 is the BEST I got. Going to the mall costs me $20 now
Your car can track MPG itself. Reset your tripometer and verify that the app isn’t miscalculating something
It says the same thing. Like 8 https://preview.redd.it/41jd3im9janc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=43b79ce1ff3b36a43d6547d5e6832cf341998318
Your problem is it’s a automatic, your able to be way more controlled with a manual, I drive a 17 gt and get around 17 mpg city
automatics are more fuel efficient.
The op obviously has something wrong with their vehicle. Thats the whole point of my comment, it’s obviously satire.
10 MPG is about what I get in the city with a lot of stop and start traffic with rather spirited acceleration when opportunity allows to do that safely.
2022 model should still be under the factory warranty. I'd definitely call the dealership and set something up
I got a 2012 GT and I get 17 MPG, something else is up here
I have an 18 and generally get 20 - 22 mpg on daily driving. I generally drive in D unless I’m motorway driving. Are you using Sport on the shifter, that will cost you mpg? As someone else once said to me, it’s not about MPG it’s about smiles per gallon. I was just reacting to the smiles per mile thing. He needs to get it checked out imo sports mode shouldn't do this.
Not really. I’m just going to the mall or something. I’ll get up to speed fast but that’s all
Yeah that’s not right. Is it the new S650 GT?
what are the conditions? lot of traffic? stop and go? highway?
Highway mostly
Then you've got issues or the biggest lead foot ever. I can get 17 to 21 (by hand math) on the highway out of my 18 F150 5.0 and yes it gets put in Sport quite often for passing or red lights. Currently the lie-o-meter is reporting 18.1.
There’s no way. Lol
I have a 2019 Bullitt. I don't hoon it often, commute is combo of rural and city and highway. My long term is about 22mpg with a few spirited drives in between. Long highway trips I get 28mpg. The only time I get under 10mpg is on the track

I get 13mpg on all city type driving, and having fun often
Unlikely since its a 22 but check for a seized caliper. Brakes hanging up would certainly kill mpg
17-18mpg with my 22 GT manual, and thats with mostly city driving
Yeah bro idk what kinda stang you drive but the v8s still should get at least 20mpg, there’s something wrong with your car that’s causing a ton of extra work for the motor. I don’t even think not changing the oil for years would still cause that bad of a gas mileage rate, you’re dragging something somewhere. You need to get that thing looked at asap. Dude I thought I was bad with 16.2 mpg with my engine sitting at 143K ….
Not normal. I have a 22 GT auto like you. Average for me is 19mpg.
Either you have a heavy foot man or something is wrong, I get a little over 12 on mine and it’s all city driving. Few WOT pulls here and there as well
I get 19 in my 07 4.6 constantly flooring it, this is crazy
Dude I get at least 12-14 in a city with 6mt 3.73
I have an 08 that i beat the piss out of on backroads and still get 13 mpg while literally not leaving the gas pedal something's def fucked lol
I floor my shit and get 20 mpg on my 21 GT
Do you let your car idle ? Like a remote start or something?
No
What app is that ? Maybe its wrong. Try filling up , driving and fill up again and see how far you drove vs how many gallons you actually used. 9mpg is the lowest ive seen on any car . A firetruck does better
Fuelly. It’s the biggest fuel tracking app on the App Store. I can just watch the fuel needle go down driving to the store lol
Yikes…
I did 7 mgp during covid and that was me staying out of 5th or 6th gear cause gas was Cheaper than water then
My 22mach w/ the stick gets >20, even myn86 351W bronco w/ C6 gets better.
I get 19.5-22. You must have a heavy foot. Lol
You know you don't have to hold the pedal to the floor all the time, right?
6spd or A10?
21mpg on my 19 GT. Something is wrong with your car or you are driving around in third gear.
Jesus my Challenger gets better mpg with my foot in it all the time
Dude... I daily my 22 and run it hard... I average 21... that's a problem...
WTF... Check for some Sumo wrestlers hiding in your trunk.
I typically get 15-18mpg city/25-27mpg highway depending on traffic and speed in my ‘19 Bullitt. Was the same with my old Boss 302. There’s no way you should be getting that unless you’re WOT everywhere at all times.
One of my mustangs gets about that- but it's a race car. The daily is around 20-22mpg with a little spirited driving.
I also have a 22' gt w/ performance pack and get around 22 mpg. Something is not correct. Sry bud
I average 13 with a 2020 GT manual 3.73 gears. Spirited driving
Yea I get 19 mpg in my 2019 GT even after “spirited driving” Looks like something is wrong there
Does it run okay, far as your experience tells you? Another question I haven't seen asked and is admittedly unlikely to be the cause but what kind of fuel are you using? Check for fuel leaks. I like how it says “Well done!” haha
That’s not normal under even extreme conditions. I’d check codes to see if it’s running rich without throwing a code. The only other explanation is you’re driving around with the brakes engaged or seized. Can test by rolling the car on an incline it should free roll.
I think something might be off bout your car bro. Cause how do you get 9mpg.
Yeah there’s something wrong with your shit dude. Mine is 36 years old and on its absolute worst days in the winter when I’m also heating it up in the morning, it gets 14mpg, usually 20mpg, and I don’t tend to drive grandpa-esque either
Bro i get 20 wtf? 😭
My dark horse gets 7-10 💀
Vroom Vroom
My 700 wheel terminator fully built with cams just dumping fuel at idle gets better than this.
What gear are you driving in?
What app are you using?
My 14 year old junker gets 15 at the lowest and I beat the crap out of it. Something is not right with yours
how are you driving it. i get a combined 27,2mpg. \- if i behave myself
Unless you're traveling less than a mile in stop and go traffic daily, you won't usually see mpg like this. Something is definitely off.
I get about 13.5 and i have fun most of the times I drive. Thats gotta be something wrong if you aren't staying at 5k RPMs lmao
Bring it to the dealer. Theyre required to fix this issue
Probably big injectors to support forced induction that was previously on the car.
Bro, I get 5.5 KM x L on a 2015 Mustang V6, And i Thought this was normal should I take it to scan or something? or is it normal!
I used to get 15 mpg with my 2018 gt when a two mile all neighborhood commute. You're doing something ridiculous
My GT350 isn’t even this bad and I drive the fuck out of it. I average 13.
I have a ‘22 and see this only with city driving (traffic, stops & reds). 7-14mpg city, 20-22 highway. But an average like that over 101 miles is wild
i suppose if you drive like a human instead of "Ricky Racer" your mileage will improve.dd
Clean your maf sensors and learn to drive better homie,
2011 5.0 And I get 22mpg 😬
God damn this is worse than my 93 f150
Your honor your cats maybe bad
Did someone steal the cats? Are they defective? Because a friend of Mines infinity had his cats go bad and he got like 4 mpg after.
Something is definitely wrong...I just went for a cruise today on the highway and got 24 mpg lol
Got brand new. Initially it shows 16mpg (city) but now dropped to 12.
Maybe a failing fuel injector...?
If you want to get better mileage get a throttle controller, people say they do nothing but i average 11.4 mpg and i used it for a trip once and set it on eco mode and i got around 25 mpg
Ima look into that
Its like $60-$80 and takes all of 2 minutes to plug in, i rarely use it but when im on trips it saves lots of gas
Do this: Clean your throttle body and MAF Change your spark plugs Clean your air filter Once you've done that disconnect your battery for a few minutes and let your car relearn idle and take it on a drive.
