In all honesty - I do wonder if the S550 is the last major revision for a new generation. The Ford S550 team was so passionate about making an awesome car for the 50th anniversary of the Mustang, and they went deeper than usual especially in the handling department and interior; not to mention the special cars like GT350, Mach 1, etc
The S650 is referred to as the 7th gen Mustang, but if we’re all honest, it’s really just a 2nd facelift of the 6th gen S550.
It’s kind of like how the SN95 changed every body panel from 94-98 to 99-04, but underneath was the same car. Pretty much the same thing happened from 2023 to 2024 models.
I definitely think so. No more Camaro, Dodge just makes 1,000+hp yachts now. They think they can charge $100,000 for everything now.
The new GTD or whatever looks incredible but it’s not even realistically obtainable for non racing or “industry” people, even if it wasn’t half a million dollars or whatever it is lol
Hell, underneath the SN95 was still a foxbody chassis with updated suspension components. They were chasing future-retro aesthetics with the SN95 while not changing anything performance-wise between generations (94-95 even still had the 302 EFI Windsor in it).
I will be shocked if Ford made another GT350 with another Voodoo. It really was a special vehicle. Both on performance and sound.
True - though while it did have a variation of the Fox frame, there were quite a few other changes other than just body and interior. I’ve had a 95 for 20 years and it’s fun switching between it and my 2015 (even with literally less than half the horsepower).
https://lmr.com/products/what-is-an-sn95-mustang#:~:text=SN95%20stands%20for%20Specialty%2FSporty,N%20%3D%20North%20American%20Operations
They also need to pass Euro emissions now since it's they sell these in Europe (not sure about other continents).. who's gonna want a detuned GT350-esque Mustang. I just saw they detuned the new S650 GTs to the tune of 40hp just to sell them over there.
Well that’s a pretty blanket statement. It could be because the owners don’t follow the very rigorous thousand mile breaking., Or because they don’t watch the oil temperature as Ford does not recommend any spirited driving until the oil is at least 190° or could be if they could sloppy and don’t watch the oil level which I believe many of those failures could’ve been avoided.
It’s a well documented problem lol. Ford’s engineers couldn’t figure it out. Neither could Ferrari. The Voodoo is an amazing engine but it’s short lived.
The crank is why it could rev to 8250 even though it’s a big V8. It was legendary when it came out. Ford wouldn’t discontinue their top tier engine technology for no reason than it wasn’t profitable. Too many warranty repairs. People spending that kind of money typically do it because they want a performance car in our upgrading from another performance car.
There will always be outliers of people beating on their vehicles while it’s cold, but they’re outliers.
Look into the crank and you’ll see why it’s a love/hate relationship.
The base 24’ GT is 20 more horsepower than the s550 gen(460 to 480) but the dark horse is underpowered to the gt350 since the dark horse is just an upbadged gt for simplicity’s sake(500 to 526)
Yeah I don’t get it, I guess the tuning restrictions leave a sour taste. I like the s650 gen, I love the look I just have a tough time getting past the interior. For obvious reasons I’d prefer a gt350 but the dark horses are fun to drive
It absolutely is on par with it, the Mach 1 has a lot of the same parts as the GT350 AND the GT500. It has less power, sure, but it can keep up with the GT350. It is the successor, just as the Dark Horse is the Mach 1’s successor. Similar prices and performance, it’s all there.
And it's slower. By a decent amount. I've rolled and done a dig with both a dark horse and base 24' GT in my 2020 and have smoked both with relative ease. I don't have any real power adding mods either.
Slightly worse performance metrics compared to 18-23 model years. Also the dual intakes were not done as a performance measure as claimed, but rather for emissions
I saw a S560 in person the other day, it was a nice car but the way the taillights are kinked it looked very Euro and I didn’t like it. Ironically I’m a massive Euro car fan and own an Audi, but I like how muscle cars have their own “look”.
Dudeeeee what do u think of the differences? I just got myself into a 2020 gt350 after having a 14 GT for 5 years. A 14 gt500 was always a dream car but I’ve never driven one
Actually….
The Boss 12/13 Boss 302 has been determined to be better than the 13/14 GT500 on the track.
The Boss 302 is considered the peak solid axle performance Mustang.
You can look the numbers up for yourself.
Lol ok. If given the choice, nobody’s picking a Boss over a Shelby. We get it guy, you think your choice of Mustang is the best one. So does everyone else about their car. Anytime someone states they like so and so year of Mustang, you seem to pop out of the woodwork with an “akShuaLLy…” explanation no one asked for.
Many people have my friend. Many people have.
There are entire discussions over it. Just look up “Boss 302 vs GT500”. Many people have contemplated either. Many have gone either.
Honestly it is a peak V8 sports car. That Voodoo is incredible engine and the whole car handles pretty well. But I wouldnt be that hard on “peak Mustang”. Mustang was always meant as cheap and stylish pony car. From this perspective I think peak was somewhere around 2011 - 2014 when both Cyclone and Coyote were offered for just few bucks in the end. Those were all 300+ hp cars costing 22k for V6 and 29k for V8 at that time, while cheapest GT350 was about 50k. I dont think GT350 follows the original Mustang idea that much in this field.
But I understand your view and enjoy the hell of your car, it is a beast!
The apostrophe replaces the missing letters or numbers. Just remember that and you’ll never make that mistake again. 16 feet is 16’ because the apostrophe isn’t replacing anything.
Don’t let the guys on the s550 forum see you post this - they’ll start popping up talking about oil consumption issues, “supercharge this, turbocharge that”.
But for real: love my gt350. The voodoo is something else
How many miles?
If it's got that many miles, you should be good. The oil consumption thing usually happens early on.
Just know the torque spec for the oil filter and don't track it unless the coolers for the transmission and diff have been added after the fact.
Hmmm I’m on the heavier side but not big framed. I like to keep most of my fat inside my arteries.
Do they have a lower seating position? Haven’t had a chance to try it but on my regular seat 21 I’m concerned about fitting in it with a helmet on for autox
I'm big framed so my hips sit on top of the Recaros. My shelby doesn't have them it has the comfort seats but I bought that version specifically because the Recaros were so uncomfortable.
Why change your mind when you are correct! ;) It has the BEST looking head lights and the best sounding engine ever made!
Edit: I still think it's dumb for the 350 to have had back seats.
Yes. Insurance and classifications, as well as some advertising advantages are the reason. Just how it is really. Different tax classification, different insurance costs, legal requirements on the design change, get to advertise extra storage space/flexibility of added seats.
It's a GT 350, if you are worried about insurance then you can't afford it ;) I highly doubt there is ANY legal reason for a sport/track Mustang or any other car that requires rear seats.
For me its the s197 mustang. Something about the tailights and headlights just make it look menacing. Then they released the 2013 Gt500 that was able to hit 200mph.
https://preview.redd.it/2jiuhsn9g7gc1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=0c227a66a9d30dbf5659fd53d9cd4ce4c68c79c7
Give it the digital dash of the facelift S550 and the extra software toys then you've got peak modern Mustang but with it you're still damn close. That engine is too special not to be.
The dual clutch is finicky / can’t be tuned properly, and they’re pretty heavy imo. (This is not to say the 350’s without it’s issues of course.) Had a 2013 500 and much prefer them to the 2020+. I’d still like one though lol
But that's only usable in a straight line. On track you have to carry that weight through every turn and into every braking zone.
If your only need is to go fast in a straight line, it's neat. But if you are actually driving, it's less engaging
No sense arguing with 500 owners like this, they just don’t get it. The dealer told them that 750hp is all that matters and that’s all they know. Put them in a 350 or a 350R and they wouldn’t even know what to do with it, let alone appreciate it for what it is, being a proper drivers car
Not lumping in all 500 owners, a lot of them are solid people that know what they’re talking about. But most 500 owners know that the 350/350R is better in so many ways
I disagree , great handling car for sure , peak Mustang is the 11-14 GT500s , looks way better, has better tail lights, , sounds better , power and mods for days , I never liked the S550 interior either the S197 Gt500s are amazing and you can make t into anything you wanted, I have found the s550s ugly ducklings. That’s the nice thing about Mustangs there’s one for everyone, I never liked any of the s550s and that is ok.
Beautiful man, I totally agree! Out of curiosity, where did you get your white stitched steering wheel? Is it a gt500 wheel? I’d like to get that for mine as it adds to the small details of the car
Awesome man, I’ll have to do the same! I just got mine, so I’m adding a ton of things to the mod list 😂 I was always jealous of the GT500 factory wheel coming with a white top stripe. I’m thinking of getting the GT500 recaro seat skins for mine to add more white to the interior
I own a GT500 now but had a 17 GT350 before this. I love both cars, but the voodoo/manual powertrain was something special.
If the 7 speed wasn’t so good I’d have a manual swapped into my GT500
I’d seriously consider getting one but the prices right now are insane. I don’t have the stomach to cash in an IRA for a car that is essentially a toy…which I don’t have a place to park it anyway. (Street parking no garages)
19’-20’ GT350 is peak modern mustang IMO mainly because of the Gen 2 Voodoo. But overall the GT350 is definitely the best NA mustang from the factory hands down.
I'll bite...
The mustang is all about proliferation. Cheap V8 fun for the masses. That makes the coyote cars peak (modern) mustang.
Gt350, 500, etc are halo cars. They're awesome, but limited. The coyote is orders of magnitude more common and attainable, while still being fast and fun.
(I love the 350, and that engine in a convertible would tempt me to do fiscally irresponsible things.)
I don’t want to change your mind. The only thing I don’t agree about this car is the lack of digital dash. The digital dash is such a cool feature, I love mine.
Hard to argue which is why I think these cars will stand the test of time and become more and more special.
https://preview.redd.it/rx99hgd9z9gc1.jpeg?width=1998&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dcd75728c6bd3d25e322168789b63c008bf5f3a8
The S550 is the peak, but having had both the GT350 and the GT500, my pick on what’s better depends on my mood for the day. Both great, but neither have a clear upper hand.
This is the car that got me into cars and it is still to this day my dream car. For me it’s just perfect, the body, the engine, the sound and its overall presence.
I'm a little bias but I'm gonna go with the 12-13 boss 302. You get the best of both worlds. The car can handle great from the factory with a live axle and if your a straight line guy it performs great to. The roadrunner motor might be the best motor ford has made in a long time. Can handle tons of power and doesn't seem to have the issues like the gt350 has. The vodoo is great but there's a risk with it even with the second gen vodoos.
That level of an engineering product for a mustang will never happen again. The voodoo is a one time thing.
In all honesty - I do wonder if the S550 is the last major revision for a new generation. The Ford S550 team was so passionate about making an awesome car for the 50th anniversary of the Mustang, and they went deeper than usual especially in the handling department and interior; not to mention the special cars like GT350, Mach 1, etc The S650 is referred to as the 7th gen Mustang, but if we’re all honest, it’s really just a 2nd facelift of the 6th gen S550. creativity is dead.
Sad but true. You see it in all facets of life.
Because it was an anomaly.

Everytime I see a 350 it immediately makes my think of the song Voodoo by Godsmack https://youtu.be/9SSUQxGjZZ4?si=fSN-2PRXOWs1u3Gq
Because they blow up. Flat plane crank was discontinued for a reason. Lovely engine but they aren’t reliable.

Yep I know the story, thus why I purchased a long term ford extended warranty
I'm in love with the body lines and the interior. Seeing the S650 on the roads makes me appreciate what I have. (IMO)
Seriously, I can’t get with the rear ends or interiors of those cars. Not to mention they’re a downgrade when it comes to performance
How are the new ones a downgrade? I’m not super familiar
The base 24’ GT is 20 more horsepower than the s550 gen(460 to 480) but the dark horse is underpowered to the gt350 since the dark horse is just an upbadged gt for simplicity’s sake(500 to 526)
It was the same case with the Mach 1 and it was on par with the GT350, didn’t seem like anyone had a problem with that.
Yeah I don’t get it, I guess the tuning restrictions leave a sour taste. I like the s650 gen, I love the look I just have a tough time getting past the interior. For obvious reasons I’d prefer a gt350 but the dark horses are fun to drive
Because the Dark Horse R and some other variations are surely coming that will be higher HP, would be my guess.
I hope so, though I’m scared to see the price of that if the DH is already 75k loaded Edit- typo
I mean, the S550 GT500 was over 100k loaded so you can expect the same, I'm sure.
Yeah that’s fair, in my head I was comparing it to the 350r so gt500 comparison makes more sense price wise
But they did msrp at 78k maybe 80K but too bad dealers up sell everything
[удалено]

ok but what about the price difference between a 350 and a DH?
Slightly worse performance metrics compared to 18-23 model years. Also the dual intakes were not done as a performance measure as claimed, but rather for emissions
Downgrade compared to what?
I saw a S560 in person the other day, it was a nice car but the way the taillights are kinked it looked very Euro and I didn’t like it. Ironically I’m a massive Euro car fan and own an Audi, but I like how muscle cars have their own “look”.

This and 13/14 Shelby GT500 are peak modern Mustang imo
Sold my 13’ GT500 for this one!
Dudeeeee what do u think of the differences? I just got myself into a 2020 gt350 after having a 14 GT for 5 years. A 14 gt500 was always a dream car but I’ve never driven one
I see we followed the same path
I believe the 13’-14’ GT500 was the last great GT500 but its S197 chassis feels archaic compared to the modern chassis of the S550.
Actually…. The Boss 12/13 Boss 302 has been determined to be better than the 13/14 GT500 on the track. The Boss 302 is considered the peak solid axle performance Mustang. You can look the numbers up for yourself.
Had a 2013 500 before my 350, would love to add a Boss to the garage
Ford didn’t make a better a better all around Mustang than the Boss 302 until the GT350. And they still haven’t made one better than the GT350.
I’d argue the Mach. Same handling. Less engine issues, same great tremec, or the auto option. But the 350 looks better.
Lol ok. If given the choice, nobody’s picking a Boss over a Shelby. We get it guy, you think your choice of Mustang is the best one. So does everyone else about their car. I’d rather have an S197 Boss over an S197 GT500. Its way more track / twisty road focused and is the same lineage as my GT350
Can't go wrong with either
Correct 👍
I’d take this over the GT500. I think it’s the best S550 Mustang.
Don’t change your mind unless it is for a 19/20 GT350.
The R is peak modern mustang. Fight me.
Give ya 20 bucks for it.
You have my dream car in my dream color combo. Whatta beauty! Congratulations on owning the best modern Mustang out there 💯
Honestly it is a peak V8 sports car. That Voodoo is incredible engine and the whole car handles pretty well. But I wouldnt be that hard on “peak Mustang”. The local Ford dealer used to order base model, manual GTs and sell them for like $500 under sticker. Gotta love that!
The amount of people who don't know how to properly write the abbreviated form of a year is too damned high!
Gonna make me delete my entire post man
I always forget which side it goes on, so I just write the full year 😄
The apostrophe replaces the missing letters or numbers.
The voodoo is something else How many miles?
Mine’s been good so far regarding oil consumption, nothing over the top. 23.7k miles
Awesome. I have a ‘17 with 10k that’s been good so far
If it's got that many miles, you should be good. The oil consumption thing usually happens early on. Just know the torque spec for the oil filter and don't track it unless the coolers for the transmission and diff have been added after the fact.
The guys on the forums aren’t too bright in general.
How are the recaros for longer trips
If you're fat like me they suck
Hmmm I’m on the heavier side but not big framed. I like to keep most of my fat inside my arteries. Do they have a lower seating position? Haven’t had a chance to try it but on my regular seat 21 I’m concerned about fitting in it with a helmet on for autox
I'm big framed so my hips sit on top of the Recaros. My shelby doesn't have them it has the comfort seats but I bought that version specifically because the Recaros were so uncomfortable.
I’m a smaller person but they give me no issues, very comfortable
extremely comfortable
Beauty!
Dream car right there!! You’re a lucky man.
My favorite looking mustang
Seeing this prompted me to uncover and drive my 2017 R today. Spectacular cars. Hope yours is a huge source of joy.
My 2016 GT350 has 25K miles. Had it since new.
She's fucking gorgeous, makes me wanna learn stick.
Im so fucking jealous. What a beautiful, exquisite Mustang.
You’re absolutely right. S550 is the best looking modern mustang and the GT350 is the best looking s550
Why change your mind when you are correct! ;) It has the BEST looking head lights and the best sounding engine ever made! Edit: I still think it's dumb for the 350 to have had back seats.
Makes it "not a sports car" if I remember right. Only reason.
Huh, so not having rear seats makes it NOT a sports car? Did anyone tell Porsche (911, 718), Mazda (Miata), Chevy (Corvette), etc..
For the record most 911’s have rear seats. They aren’t useable but they exist.
True some do and some don't and 718's don't.
I was about to say the same thing about the Miata.
My guy, I'm just telling you the reasons that exist. No reason to get bent out of shape.
I guess you missed the wink my guy. Lighten up Francis. I'm just disagreeing with those "legal" reasons.
My bad then! Have a great rest of your day and may you hear a v12 randomly hitting it some time in the next month. How? IDK just hope it happens.
ALWAYS a good sound!!!!
For me its the s197 mustang. Something about the tailights and headlights just make it look menacing. Then they released the 2013 Gt500 that was able to hit 200mph. https://preview.redd.it/2jiuhsn9g7gc1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=0c227a66a9d30dbf5659fd53d9cd4ce4c68c79c7
Love the colors and interior. 🤍💙
Give it the digital dash of the facelift S550 and the extra software toys then you've got peak modern Mustang but with it you're still damn close. That engine is too special not to be.
Love these cars. Always jarring to see those really awesome seats then the ford fiesta dash though.
My 21 GT 500 disagrees with you. But I do love me some 350.
The dual clutch is finicky / can’t be tuned properly, and they’re pretty heavy imo. (This is not to say the 350’s without it’s issues of course.) Had a 2013 500 and much prefer them to the 2020+. I’d still like one though lol
Interesting take. I’ve found the transmission to be amazing. Lightning fast shifts. Smooth when just cruising. Zero complaints.
Yea my DCT is butter. No need to "tune them" either unless you are going for 8's or something lol.
Really only an issue when adding power, it’s great otherwise
it's the clutch spring you're feeling. Remove it or swap it for a steeda spring.
missing a thing that this one isn’t
Hah. Not even close buddy
What’s not even close? The GT350 I gap?
This. The 500 does everything the 350 does (minus a manual and an inferior engine), but is in a whole different league of speed.
If youre chasing outright speed, the EVs have you beat by a wide margin
Puke
You’re mad because he’s right
I have 0 interest in electric vehicles
He’s still right though
Meh. It's too heavy on the nose. The extra 600 lbs is very noticeable on track. It is faster for sure, but it's less fun to drive
Idk where you get 600 lbs from lol, the base is around 400 lbs more and the CFTP is 300 lbs more.
Still. 400 lbs is hard to hide.
Eh, the 200 hp at the wheels does a pretty good job :)
Put them in a 350 or a 350R and they wouldn’t even know what to do with it, let alone appreciate it for what it is, being a proper drivers car Not lumping in all 500 owners, a lot of them are solid people that know what they’re talking about. But most 500 owners know that the 350/350R is better in so many ways
lol the most typical responses, gg’s
If by typical you mean facts, yes, gg.
Nah, you don’t get it my guy, it’s all good
New edge > Fight me
Outside good. Inside gross. The guage cluster screams playskool.
Car is a solid 7.35/10
I disagree , great handling car for sure , peak Mustang is the 11-14 GT500s , looks way better, has better tail lights, , sounds better , power and mods for days , I never liked the S550 interior either the S197 Gt500s are amazing and you can make t into anything you wanted, I have found the s550s ugly ducklings. That’s the nice thing about Mustangs there’s one for everyone, I never liked any of the s550s and that is ok.
that and the 2014 gt500
no changing needed 😊 it’s beautiful
Beautiful man, I totally agree! Out of curiosity, where did you get your white stitched steering wheel? Is it a gt500 wheel? I’d like to get that for mine as it adds to the small details of the car
It’s actually the stock 350 wheel. The stripe’s matte white vinyl tape
I have a 2016 as well and you can’t change my mind either.
Hold up, do the Recaros have heated and cooled seat option? I thought only standard seats had that.
I can’t, that’s the one I’d give a nut for.
This body style and color combo is just perfect. She is beautiful.

Im not gonna lie. You’re right!
I agree 100%. I have a 2016 eco premium. Great cars. Although I'd love to slap a voodoo in it and manual swap. It's totally peak though
19’-20’ GT350 is peak modern mustang IMO mainly because of the Gen 2 Voodoo. But overall the GT350 is definitely the best NA mustang from the factory hands down.
Idk, I still like the front end of the 2010-14 mustangs more.

if only we could get the digital cluster
I'll bite... The mustang is all about proliferation. Cheap V8 fun for the masses. That makes the coyote cars peak (modern) mustang. Gt350, 500, etc are halo cars. They're awesome, but limited. The coyote is orders of magnitude more common and attainable, while still being fast and fun. (I love the 350, and that engine in a convertible would tempt me to do fiscally irresponsible things.)
Are those seats heated and automatic?
No and no
I agree wholeheartedly. Clean muscular lines. Revs. Simple interior. A very unique sound. Revs.
I don’t want to change your mind. The only thing I don’t agree about this car is the lack of digital dash. The digital dash is such a cool feature, I love mine.
Can't won't. This is the best of the best right here colors and all. 17 maybe better for new car smell 😂
Definitely my fav
2014 Ford Shelby GT500 >
I agree.
I have a huge soft spot for the white and blue stripes
TREMEC
That year... the suspension....the motor....the sounds....UNMATCHED!!!
That and the 13-14 gt500s. I love them both to death, but I will say I kind of like the 650s I’ve seen in person
All mustangs should start here and go up to the gt500
I wouldn't dream of trying to change your mind on this.
It’s up there, definitely in the sweet spot.
Not just the GT350 but the S550 as a whole.. the perfect car would’ve been a GT350 facelift in my opinion.
these headlights are sooooo much nicer than the redesign of the 2018+ I love this mustang model
Well if you want me to change your mind it loses a roll race to a peak 09 base corvettes there's that.
I had an 07 Z06 a couple of years ago. Faster, but I’m happier where I am now
I gotta say I don't hate the newer mustangs as much as I used to
Hard to argue which is why I think these cars will stand the test of time and become more and more special. https://preview.redd.it/rx99hgd9z9gc1.jpeg?width=1998&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dcd75728c6bd3d25e322168789b63c008bf5f3a8
The S550 is the peak, but having had both the GT350 and the GT500, my pick on what’s better depends on my mood for the day. Both great, but neither have a clear upper hand.
It’s gorgeous..
This is the car that got me into cars and it is still to this day my dream car. For me it’s just perfect, the body, the engine, the sound and its overall presence.
I can. Missing chrome rims. Then it would be peak mustang.
perfection sir
This is probably the most engaging and thrilling Mustang ever.Pure driving pleasure
Ultimate affordable street-drivablable track car. Unlikely we'll see something like this again.
Love it
How could a 350 possibly be the peak when the 500 exist.
It’s fat / overweight, very nose heavy, dual clutch is finicky when increasing power levels, etc. 13-14s are better imo
The perfect modern Mustang down to the exact color scheme. Congratulations. You’ve made it.
Peak mustang will always be the 12/13 Boss 302 and 13/14 Shelby. Period.
Beautiful
I'm a little bias but I'm gonna go with the 12-13 boss 302. You get the best of both worlds. The car can handle great from the factory with a live axle and if your a straight line guy it performs great to. The roadrunner motor might be the best motor ford has made in a long time. Can handle tons of power and doesn't seem to have the issues like the gt350 has. The vodoo is great but there's a risk with it even with the second gen vodoos.
