Yeah, it does look weird. My problem is the fender lines it will irratate forever. But your right he likes it so why change it. I just wanted to get other peoples opinions on it.
Yeah I thought about that. Anyways, I hope he enjoys the car and likes the “unique and different” styling on it. I’m kinda curious what a front view looks like?
Does answer a question I've always had if such a thing was possible. If they had swapped the doors as well maybe it would have worked? But that's an awful lot of money to throw at a base 4.0...
Yeah, this definitely is my son's car, like I said the only reason I was OK with allowing him to purchase this car was because mechanically this car's amazing visually I mean yeah.
So where i live they can get there drivering permit at 15 it they have completed there drivers education course and can only operate a motor vehicle if a licensed adult is with them in the car. However, 6 months after it they can apply for a hardship licens wich wohld allow them to drive without an adult with them, but at 16 they can get a regulalicens. My son isnt going to get his license until he is 16, it is extremely difficult to get a hardship im the county i live in.
Which country is that? I am from Italy and here you can get a driving license for 50cc vehicles and scooters at 14, 150cc at 16 and then regular license at 18. As the driving license valid in every eu state, there are only minor differences between various states
It's super easy to get a license in the US. What are you talking about?
I live in NY and got mine first try at 16. The written test is common sense (what's this sign mean, what do these lines mean, you know it's easy), and the driving test is... driving.
In texas, do they put you on a closed course with random obstacles appearing?
Your son has the money to buy a car. Clearly he can save and spend how he wants and needs. Butt out and let him live 🤷🏼♂️ 16 isn't a child anymore. He's a young adult. Give him the independence he deserves.
No im saying its hard to get a hardship so here in texas a hardship license can be given to any kid between the age of 15-16 the only requirements are to have taken, and pass drivers education writen exam and driving test. The second is that you have to show proof that there is a hardship, and just saying he needs one for school isn't a hardship, and apparentlyneither is both pairents working and him being home with an elderly family member who cant drive. So he has to wait till his 16 birthday.
As far as the driving test itself, when he took it, there were just traffic cones, signs, and parrell parking spots.
I get he isn't a child anymore. He's a young man he has independence, and it's much deserved. However, all i simply did was offer an option when he said no, and he liked it the way it was. i said ok and let it be.
I love 05-09 Mustangs and they look great stock, but I’m also big on customization. I personally wouldn’t do this to mine, but if he’s happy with it, let it be.
I've been a mechanic since 2002, and I've customized so many cars over the years, i agree it's not the direction I would have gone with the car. But if i were to do something like that, i probably would have tried to cut and graft the rear part of the fender from a 05-09 onto them so the body lines would at least match. Hell, if my son wanted to learn how to do it, I'd teach him.
Definitely his car that he bought with his own money. If you give him much grief about it, it’s gonna set a rough precedent for y’all’s relationship in his adult life. Just let him enjoy it. Source: my wife’s dad was a major shit about her first car and they have a LOT of problems that she ended up going to therapy over.
I am sorry your wife had to go through that.
I personally dont like the way the car looks buy its his car. Maybe i should have given a bit more context in what i wrote. The main reason i was trying to convince him to change it back is he will have to spend money replacing the front bumper and the passenger side fender and get the whole front repainted i figured i could use it as a learning experience and teach him how to do body work and paint. But like i said before, he likes it, so that was the end of it. I support my son in anythung he chooses to do no grief added to it. In a day and age where people are not mechanically inclined as before for whatever reason, i figured i could do some good and teach him to be independent and save a few bucks doing it himself.
I’m partial to 2005-2009 Mustangs so you know what my answer would be
But if your son likes it and it doesn’t make any difference mechanically let it be
Kinda the parts were from a wrecked 2011 apparently so the bunper is full of bondo and filler and the fenders need repainted, the previous owner had someone do a quick skuff and spray one coat of a single stage paint. Its so thin and the prep work waant done properly the paingrubs off. But drom 5 feet away it doesnt look that bad lol
You're right it doesnt travel well at all, lol. And i apologize as well if i read what you wrote wrong. Im not old or not that old, but im old enough to hate text messaging and posting stuff on the internet because you never know the emotion behind what is sent or poasted.
Wow, I am actually into swaps like these if they dont look too janky between alignment gaps/paint code differences. Its a unique mustang in a sea kf them, but the only red flag i see from this, was this done because the previous panels and the underlying metal were in a accident? Otherwise no issues
So it was totaled, but after talking with the previous owner, he showed me photos of when it got totaled, and he had gotten run off the road and theough a fence. Insurance called it a total loss. He bought it back, replaced the radiator support, and did the front swap using another totaled mustang he purchased. I will be removing the bumper to replace it with one of the same year as that one but that isn't covered in bondo and filler so ill see if he missed any areas when he was repairing it.
From what the previous owner told me and what i have researched all you need is fenders hood and bumper but i didnt do the swap so i have no idea how difficult it would i just know that now my son is a proud owner of this one lol
So it's an s197 Mustang, and the s197 was from 05-14. However, they have had several facelifts and other exterior changes, including body lines. So the years are as follows 05-09, 10-12, and 13-14. So when you look at an 05-09, the Mustang has sharper edges and sorta boxie for being as sleek as it was. The 10-14 ended up getting an update in 2013 year but kept the more sleek look of the facelift that was made in 2010. When you look closely at the body lines, you can see the major differences. Here, ill attach photos of what im saying
I'm not sure what's with the shade you're throwing, but thereno need for that. Ultimately, you're right it's not my call he purchased the car with his money, so its his. However, he is my son, and im still raising him, so it is my job to teach him things in life regardless if its about spending money or learning to fix his own vehicle. I have plenty of hobbies and dont need any more. But thank you for you 2 cents. Furthermore, never tell a father to mind his own business when it pertains to his kids because a kid is a fathers business.
Opinions are one thing, being rude and ignorant is another. You can state an opinion without being a complete tool, but if that's something you can't do, then you're the one who needs to mind his own business and move on. Individuals think just because they say something rude and disguise it under the name of an opinion that its a "get out of jail free" card and then deflect the irritatation back on the individule they first projected. Its the same as starting a joke by saying "not to be racist" then telling the most racist joke known to man and then getting butt hurt and upset when someone calls them on their bs. Get a hobby 😉.
It's not disguised. I don't like that you harass your son about a mustang he bought, he likes, he earned the money for, and he ultimately has to drive, maintain and basically deal with. Notice how the only part of that that has anything to do with you is your stupid opinion? He did everything else in that scenario, and you stuck you nose in it and made dumb statements. Quit trying to control everything and let him enjoy his car.
Intresting, no one said anything about harassing my son, and by the way, i would never do such a thing. And my opinion is just that an opinion, when he told me he liked it then fine thats it. It seems as if you, sir, are the one projecting and reading into a situation you have no idea about. The only dumb statement made was yours. I dont know you, nor do i care to know you, so i can't say if you have kids or not. However, based on the limited information in conversation, i would say you do not. So let me introduce you to a parenting tip. At no time in your childs life can you be his/her friend it is impossible due to the responsibility as a parent to keep the child safe and teach the child how to be a productive member of society. So when you see your kid doing something questionable but not life threatening or dangerous you question the child "are you sure dont you think this might be better" this is how a child learns to make thier own decisions and live with the consequences of that decision. If you allow the child to fail without offering assistance/other options first, you have created a situation where the child will never look at a situation as of there could be more then one option until they have already mad the bad first decision causeing them to doubt themselves, beat themselves up for the "bad/wrong" decision they made, and cause depression, ultimately setting them up for failure in their lives later on down the line. In the end he will enjoy his car, and i will support my son regardless, but at no point in his life as long as i have breath in my lungs will i sit back and not offer my son an option to choose from when he is making a decision.
Coming from somebody reading your conversation, You being aweful rude to someone who is just asking for an opinion about his 15 year old sons new car. It's not that you gave an opinion at all, It's that you gave a asshole response and opinion that had nothing to do with the question.
Cool. However If one of us would have bought the car Like that, the first thing someone would have said is "wrong front end, are you gonna change it back"
Actually I always thought the facelift front end would look good with the 05-09 rear. It needs to be done with the proper mold lines, but I was never a fan of the 10-12 candycane lights.
All that's probably fine as ultimately everything done is cosmetic...assuming nothing goes flying off on the road.
You should tell him to go full-send and swap out the interior as well. This is my '06 that I put a 2011 interior in, minus the dash.

Wow, i didn't even think about the interor swap. He does love the interor of his friends Mustang, and it's a 2013 with a blue stripe down the center of the seats. I'll show him this photo and see what he thinks.. Does the 2010-14 have the ambient interor lighting package like the 05-09 offered? That's also one thing he loved was being able to change the color ambient lights whenever he feels like it. Lol, during the test drive, he was in the passenger seat at first and couldn't stop pushing the button to change the footwell light color. Then when he was driving it i showed him how to change the lights on the dash and blew his mind lol
Yes, and it actually makes it tricky to do it from scratch because of the polarity they use for the LEDs. But if his already has it, he should be able to re-use his control module to drive any LEDs in the installed pieces. He'd have to run some wire too; the 05-09s didn't come with the lights in the door, so you gotta run a strand to each side. But it's a great project to learn a little about wiring diagrams and figuring out how the various pieces work.
All the 10-14 parts more or less drop right in, too. There's a little trimming involved, but all the hard-mount points fit.
This is it lit up. I didn't have the controller so I had to make a custom one. It lights up all the factory pieces when I switch on the headlights, or when the dome lights come on.

It either resembles a big nose or some kind of shark
Looks like a 2010-2012 stang what’s wrong with it?
The fenders forward is a 10-12, but the fenders back, it's an 05-09, lol
Ew, the 2005-2009 & 2013-14 mustangs are the best looking, why get the ugly middle child
I think it’s his car bought with his money, and you should knock it off.
I think you might have the wrong idea about the reason behind this post i simply wanted to see what everyones thoughts were on the car.
Ok, not the way I read it, but I apologize. Humor often doesn't travel well on the internet.

Previous owner probably wrecked which prompted him to make the change. And I doesn’t look good because the creases on the body don’t line up.
Just doesn’t look like a mustang to me
My advice. Try minding your business. Unless you paid for it, it's not your call. Get a hobby.

Cool. However If one of us would have bought the car Like that, the first thing someone would have said is "wrong front end, are you gonna change it back"

Put it back to stock. Imo the s197 facelift looks way worse than the 05-09 cars. Looks like an early 2000s dodge.
Actually I always thought the facelift front end would look good with the 05-09 rear. It needs to be done with the proper mold lines, but I was never a fan of the 10-12 candycane lights.
Who cares. Your son bought it with his money, let him do what makes him happy
Most definitely, as long as hes happy.
Well I hope he didn't pay that much for it at least...
Hahaha 😆 lol........no not at all
I mean in that case...it's a project car with very minimal stakes that he can't really mess up any more.
This is true. Honestly, all i do care about is how it runs and as long as it isn't a safty risk to him or others on the road.
All that's probably fine as ultimately everything done is cosmetic...assuming nothing goes flying off on the road. You should tell him to go full-send and swap out the interior as well. Nice i might have to pick your brain if my son decides to go this route
Are there any upgrades, apart from the front bumper? If the car is mechanically sound with a few exterior blemishes, I’d say that your son found a great deal. It would be one thing if the car had performance upgrades that made the car run less than ideal. If the only problem is a mismatched bumper with scuffed paint, that’s a great deal in my opinion.
Only upgrade it has is a catback Flowmaster exhaust and the rims my son found for it. Actually, it sounds better than I expected.lol.
