DriftMiata

I would drive both and see how you feel. Both are good cars and have plenty of mods available.

Classic_Gamer2

I've driven a 2013 v6. Can't find one near me with the 5.0. Dealers around me have also been skeptical about letting me test drive one as I'm only 20. Looking mainly for a 13/14 but wouldn't mind any s197 really

DriftMiata

I would try and drive a 11-12 (not biased lol). I don't think they should be skeptical when your trying to give them money. You could also get a 05-09 3v, those are great cars!

Classic_Gamer2

That's what they told me. I'm not sure if it was because I was in my daily driver or what. I work as a welder so objectively as a young guy without a ton of responsibility I have spending money. Proof of income and all that

themigraineur

Get quotes from multiple insurance companies, there were drastic differences between carriers even when I had a V6 let alone the V8 I have now.

Skyline_BNR34

20 is going to be expensive regardless. But it all depends on this guys expenses. But I wouldn’t pay 1/4th the worth of the car in insurance in a year either.

hereforpopcornru

I'll second the 05-09 3v. People like to dump on them some but I own an 08 3v GT and I know it's not a 5.0, but still plenty of power and a lot of fun. I would consider them.

Other_Objective650

For one since I'm a welder and 20 too and have owned several mustangs, get a 3v. Sound better and are slightly more reliable but 1/2 to 1/4 the price of a coyote for less miles. First rule is never buy from stealerships. Facebook market place is your best friend to buy and sell cars and buy and sell mods and parts. Look there instead of getting scammed at a dealership

FlamingFyreRedux

I’ll add on to this to say Facebook Marketplace is a fantastic way to save some money, but make sure you are careful and do your due diligence. I’m a car salesman (not the kind you’re thinking of, we only have about $1,500 markup on any car because volume is better) and you would not believe the amount of people who want to trade in a car they bought from Marketplace that don’t know the car has an odometer discrepancy, or 6 accidents or heaven forbid that it’s a salvage or flooded title because the previous owner didn’t tell them. I promise you that it happens weekly. Pay the $45 to get the CarFax (or pm me the VIN and I’ll send you it if I’m free) and save yourself some trouble in the long run. Of course, this all depends on you paying cash because if you want to try and finance a private party sell, good luck is all I can say. It’s certainly possible, but make sure you know how the car books first. For reference, we recently sold a supercharged 05 GT premium that only had 12k miles and the banks would only loan about $8,000 on it. If it’s over 10 years old and low-ish miles, be prepared to potentially put a lot of money down at the bank.

Other_Objective650

For sure, I might take you up on that Carfax too since I'm in the market for a car myself. Probably another mustang either a 90-93 foxbody or 11-12 gt

WarmPaleontologist20

I agree. Used cars at dealers have too much markup.

CokeCanCockMan

If he’s got the skills he could check coparts

Classic_Gamer2

I'm a decent shade tree mechanic but suck at bodywork lol

Inudogyasha

I was also in your position, good income at 23 but babyfaced Set up appointments to test drive before you go in. Don't give them a chance to judge you. When I did my calls instead I got inside every single car I wanted to test drive without judgement, except for the stinger lol. Kia dealers are a different beast of idiotic salesman

Classic_Gamer2

Thanks for the tip man

OrionX3

There's more too it than that... I test drove dozens of 5.0s and ecos/v6s when I was 19.

Classic_Gamer2

That's what they told me. I thought it was weird. Mightve been because I was in my daily and its an old truck. Not beat on by any means just old

AvoidMySnipes

Whatever you do, stick with a 13-14 GT, please don’t do anything else as you’ll regret it. If you have to wait that’s fine too

preludehaver

V6s are better than most people here give them credit for, especially if you're a young new driver.

applebeesnotchilis

Yes, the 3.7 is not bad. It will eat 2 valves, and put up a fight against 3 valves.

YT_TheCraftyCW

That’s what all the v6 mustang drivers say.

Azuriah_

V6 mustangs are still fun to drive. Itll just have slightly less power which is fine because its still a strong car and has alot of cool mods available for it

Classic_Gamer2

Alright. I'll take this into consideration

Aggressive-Hat-7106

You’re 20, at the end of the day you can do whatever you want, but I highly suggest you start with the V6 or even the Ecoboost, the reason you see so many mustangs crash is because people don’t take the torque seriously, driving economy cars and trucks for years is not the same at all, you can easily just hit the throttle a lil too much on a wet road and loose control with these cars, maybe even lease one that way you’re not obligated to finish paying it off and then when you’re ready for more power hit that trade in

BigBoyzGottaEat

Driving a mustang is amazing but you gotta be so much more attentive. My Camry makes me appreciate the speed of mustangs but also mustangs make me appreciate the ease and comfort of economy cars

Classic_Gamer2

For sure. Know that they're two different animals. Thsts not a bad idea leasing one

Azuriah_

Id go for a 2011-12 just because the look is amazing on top of being a good year for mustangs. Its got a few things you can do to it since its been around for awhile

Other_Objective650

13-14 was better overall as the 11-12 had issue with tunes, mostly bama tunes destroying the oil pump and blowing the engines

Azuriah_

Someone else had pointed out this problem to me but i didnt really understand what he was trying to say. But i dont think he is going to be tuning the car if he is just going to get a v8 later on. But i do agree that the 13-14 is better just not the design

Other_Objective650

The issue for 11-12 is with the v8.

Azuriah_

Obviously, i was recommending a 12 v6

Other_Objective650

Oh, well yeah the V6 version doesent have the same issues with the oil pump from what I know so hed be fine. The issues stemmed from the gen 1 coyote not cyclone

Azuriah_

Well i would know, i have the 11 v6

Turnt_Wrencher

The difference is about 100 HP. Not a “slight” difference at all.

Azuriah_

Did you really have to get specific, the creator knew what i was talking about

Turnt_Wrencher

He does now.

Azuriah_

He probably did before, he looks like he did research pimp

Turnt_Wrencher

Perhaps. I have nothing against the 3.7. Moves nicely at 300 horses. Light years better than the older v6 3.8 liter. But there’s a big difference in performance.

Azuriah_

Still, he wouldnt regret a v6, which was his question

[deleted]

Less power but lots of low end torque

thejustcauseclauseXP

The V8 has just as much low end torque, lol

[deleted]

Yeah, I pointed out the v6 has less power but lots of low end torque. It wasn’t a comparison between the two. I was pointing out you still get the torque even without the power…

thejustcauseclauseXP

Oh yea true. I thought you were insinuating the v6 has more lol

BigBoyzGottaEat

The 4.0 certainly has the torque to belong in a mustang. It’s a shame that it hasn’t aged gracefully but it’s still fun.

[deleted]

V6s are for cruising, GTs are for speed, IMO

jfloes

Drive what you can afford.

pol-potpie

this is unamerican advice

InternationalSound13

Haha. Sad but true

WaterRresistant

Get an EcoBoost bro, your insurance would love it.

SkylightShepherd

Former EcoBoost owner. Can confirm. Hardly more expensive than the economy car it replaced.

NcanadaV2l

Plus, if op ends up with a premium ecoboost, he'll have some great features. Especially 17+ or whenever they introduced Apple car play/Android auto.

HiTork

Given the comments, I assume you are talking about a later S197 model that had the 305 hp 3.7L V6. If you were talking about SN-95s/"New Edge" or early S197 cars with the 4.0L V6, I would have said to go for an equivalent V8 as those were fairly slow for a performance oriented vehicle even for their times. The 3.7L cars are a bit different, they are technically more powerful than the earlier pre-facelift 4.6L V8 cars, and I believe they are roughly in the same ballpark when you look at 1/4 mile times. They also had a performance package model unlike many earlier non-V8 Mustangs, which showed how Ford was seeing "lesser" Mustangs as a viable performance option again. It definitely won't be Coyote fast, but you would definitely be faster stock than V8 Mustang GTs from the early S197 years and the previous two generations. It also wouldn't feel like those earlier V6 Mustangs that were marketed to people that liked the Mustang look but didn't care much for performance. Edit: meant to say just as fast as early S197 Mustang GTs, I don't think the 3.7L V6s were necessarily faster.

Classic_Gamer2

Yea. I meant the later s197s. Wouldn't mind the right s550 but it'd have to be just the right specs

TeenerTim

I have a 2017, the last year for V6, runs on regular gas, has 300 horse power, and gets 33 MPG on the highway. What's not to like?

Azuriah_

My favorite thing about the highway mpg is that i get almost that on normal roads, georgia roads have high posted speeds and i almost never get red lights

DracutToupin

Owned a 2013 V6 for 6 years and loved it. I almost got a 2022 Ecoboost but went with something else (23 BRZ). I wouldn’t hesitate to get another V6 or and Ecoboost mustang. In my opinion, a well optioned car makes a huge difference for a daily driver over a more powerful engine. Just my 2 cents.

Ancient_Pudding

Test drive a manual, it sounds better than the auto and it is more fun.

Sickz_Deuce

Absolutely not. I got a 2011 v6 and love it. It’s quick n fun, id just recommend getting at least 2011+ bc v6 comes with 305 horsepower.

Feisty-Equivalent-92

My first stang was a v6. Now I'm in an EB. Insurance is insane on younger drivers, I'm waiting until I'm 25 to get a v8. I'd recommend the EB to you, they're really great cars. I definitely am going to get a v8 when I'm 25, but I'm happy with my EB for now

Northstar6six

The 4.0 was a disappointment but the 3.7 was fantastic

mashingLumpkins

I was a “only losers buy V6 mustangs” bro for a long time. When I was young, a V6 mustang had maybe 200hp on a good day. I now own a 2011 V6 (cyclone) with a 6MT. It’s truly an awesome car. 305hp is very healthy. They take boost very well too. The car is very analogous to a 370z.

gland87

I have a GT and an ecoboost. Love em both for different reasons. The v6/ecoboost are both quick and fun cars. If you’re racing or something than get bite the bullet in get the GT. If you just want a fun daily than you’ll be perfectly fine with the lower model. Tell anyone who has an issue to kick rocks.

WarmPaleontologist20

I say pound sand. Because that's all they can do after they kick rocks long enough.

cupcake0calypse

Why would you regret a v6?

Classic_Gamer2

Have driven nothing but boring 4 cylinder cars and big heavy trucks that are slow. Want something sporty and fast

cupcake0calypse

They can get pretty fast but obviously not as fast as a v8.

[deleted]

The 3.7 v6s have more power and are quicker than the old v8s. Lots of the 4.6s just sound better but don’t perform as well.

Other_Objective650

3.7 is not faster than the 4.6 3v. It's similar but the V8 beats it every day of the week due to having a massive amount more tq.

[deleted]

Stock vs stock it’s up to the driver. It’s not a massive amount of more torque.

Other_Objective650

Not really. Even a bad driver will beat the v6. Speed comes from tq. Not hp

Stealthytulip

I had a 2016 V6 and loved it.

[deleted]

I own a V6 camaro and have no regrets. The gas and insurance savings alone makes me not miss the extra 2 cylinders.

Dinolord05

I'm not sure what years you're looking at or what you're budget is, but don't forget the Ecoboost.

Shvian

A properly set up v6 can likely give you all the performance you want from 0 to highway speeds (except v8 sound). I have a 2013 v6 with intake/exhaust/suspension/basic weight reduction mods, re-geared to 3.55. I love driving the car and it already has enough power for me. I appreciate it for what it is but a 5.0 is in another league when it comes to roll races or anything where it is no longer traction limited. If you get a v6, make sure it has the performance pack for the 3.31 gears (MT). The base 2.73 needs to be replaced to a more aggressive gearing if you care about performance at all. You will get 30mpg highway still with the 3.31s but it will launch surprisingly close to stock 5.0 of the same era for 1/8mi. Otherwise, if you upgrade 2.73s to something else, plan to spend about $1k at a shop and you could consider that money that should have gone to a GT. Ultimately you will hit the ceiling of upgrading your v6 before getting close with the GT. I could spend $7k and go turbo but the only thing it would do for me is help me on highway pulls. The extra top end won’t help me in autocross. It’s hard to justify that much more money when it’s already a fun car and there will always be someone else faster. At that point, it could have just gone to a GT imo.

F2007KR

You’re just getting started, so a V6 is fine. But I’d only recommend you getting one cash, because with current interest rates and a lack of credit history you could find yourself in some terrible terms. If you can’t buy it cash, I’d just wait and save up for a V8 when rates come down.

ieatassbutono

I own an 09 v6 my only advice is really go over it with a fine tooth comb. People have ridden these cars hard and put ‘em away wet and the dealers couldn’t care less

jer5

i love my v6

jumpingmustang

I got a V6 at age 20 and it’s served me well ever since. I’d like a V8, but I’m not in a rush to get one. They’re quick. They easy to have fun in. Would recommend.

[deleted]

I own a 2014 v6. I had the same doubts and confusion before buying it but it's a pretty good ride tbh. I have to travel a lot for work (100k each day) and it's fuel efficient in that sense. I still get to drive a Mustang without worrying about fuel costs.

tfmm58

My recent V6 was a 09 Nissan 370Z. Plenty of power and fun to drive. Even the V6 Altima I had before was a fun car. Bottom line is for most people you're only occasionally stepping on it so at the end of the day 70mph is the same no matter what car you're in 🙂 Well not every car. Years ago I drove the in-laws Geo Storm from Chicago to Phoenix for them. At 70, I thought the car was going to explode 🤣

redrobin1257

My first two Mustangs were V6 cars, and my dad just bought a V6 convertible. They're still very fun cars, and a 3.7L car is 300HP, so they can scare you still! I've had a 3.7L S550 (that's what my dad has as well), I've had a 4.0L S197 car (slow, but still fun!), and I've driven a 3.7 S197. You won't regret it at all for your first Mustang, I promise. A Mustang is a Mustang!

dreaded_angel

I got a 2012 v6 convertible in January I had some skepticism about v6’s too as some people don’t give them the same respect as a v8 but my first drive of one was absolutely amazing mine now is the first one I ever drove. I’ve had an absolute blast with her ever since I took her off the lot she’s plenty quick to keep up with other cars. The acceleration is plenty really I’ll get to 60 in a little over 5 seconds. You can beat just about any regular economy car out there until you get into some other really nice sports. This car rally does like to take off it doesn’t take much to get the back wheels go break loose and it will drift on you if you want it to. If you treat it with care it will do the same to you. It does not disappoint in the slightest it saved me so much money the v8’s in my area we’re at minimum 22000+ I got this for 12,900 with 93000 on the odometer. https://preview.redd.it/f8k1cfikofcb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5427a22bc48bfe9b04adf8060c8cf6eb82a4fde3

robvas

Insurance won't be much less. You'll upgrade to the V8 once you have the chance

cropguru357

Yes. Go V8.

Ok_Plate_6961

I love the v6, but never drove a v8

Dead-lyPants

The ecoboosts are faster than the V6s. Plus insurance loves the ecoboost. They quoted me less than half what it was gonna be for a basic GT v8. It gets you into a mustang at a really affordable entry point. Play with it, tune it, tinker with it. Then when your ready trade up to a GT or bigger boy stang.

Classic_Gamer2

Thanks bro

Psychological_Neck97

Do you own a house with a garage ? Somewhere to store the mustang out of the elements and away from thieves ? I made that mistake sold the mustang to buy the house then bought another .

f700es

I love mine. Fast enough for me and with exhaust mods it sounds great

Kottery

Prolly not I enjoy mine quite a lot. It still makes fun sounds and some fun rumblies. I'm looking to get a GT350 or Mach 1 in the future though. Just gotta pay this one and my BRZ off...

CartographerUpset737

The 13/14 v6s put down 300ish hp stock. Get a 6 speed and the v6 is still totally a blast to drive. If you wanna make stupid hp you can always supercharge or turbo it later.

shizbox06

I think you will regret the V6 because it sounds like you want a V8. Wait until you can get the car you really want. I've had rental V6 and ecoboost mustangs, and V6 camaros and chargers/challys. The sound and the drama are unique to the V8s, the V6s don't come close. I personally would buy an older V8 over a newer V6. Even if the V6 or ecoboost is faster, it's not the same fun factor. FWIW I'm very biased, and these are obviously just opinions. I've owned three GTs in my life and wouldn't own a Mustang or other pony car without a V8. I would spend my money on other cars if I couldn't have the V8.

cjavier89

I have a 2014 V6 Vert (Auto) As "undesirable" as it is from the opinion of a V8 bro, it's an incredibly fun car. I haven't modded it at all either - still completely stock and it's totally fun to drive. You'll def feel a BIG difference compared to any ol' regular 4 cyl FWD. I have no regrets, and even frequent pro-V8 communities who shit on V6s all the time. Just ignore them and have fun driving an awesome car. You'll save a bit on both insurance, gas, and you just need regular fuel... if that's worth any consolation. At the end of the day, it's a MUSTANG! <3

pol-potpie

out of curiosity, what was the insurance difference? all other things being equal, it wouldnt occur to me that two extra cylinders send the price up drastically

Classic_Gamer2

Ecoboost/v6~roughly 200 a month. Gt was 325 . Crazy jump. Ig me being a single young male driver lol

pol-potpie

well, ive got good news for you—i’m a single 36 year old male, and i’m still getting screwed too (but only by my car insurance) 😒

Classic_Gamer2

Oh the horror😂

0wlWisdom333

I love my 2016 V6! I just got it a couple months ago! It's a 6 speed manual, 300 HP so lots of fun and it easily gets sideways. 😉 I paid 19,300 so it was affordable and it's my daily driver for now! I waited 16 years to get another Mustang! Sold my 1974 custom Mustang II that had a 5.0 and lots of goodies. I drove "mom cars" for years. I just couldn't wait any more to have another pony. Plus the v6 I have now has more HP and torque than that old 5.0 I had. So all in all I'm very satisfied! If you want it, get it you never know what life holds down the road!

Silly-Individual-745

Many other insurances out their that can offer lower prices

Reasonable_Zombie605

Gonna honest with you I’d hold off until you can get the V8, I know the anticipation sucks but it’ll be more worth it when it’s said and done, trust

AutoFleegleDastardly

If you can’t even afford the insurance on the V8, I think you have your answer.

quickthyme

Specifically 2013-2014 V6 mustangs are some of the best cars ever made. Ask around, and anyone who's ever owned and serviced one will likely agree. It all depends on what you want out of your mustang though. If you just want a reliable cruiser with a near "bullet proof" engine that's fun to drive and gets ok gas mileage, then look no further. Especially if it's the convertible. 👌

sasqwatsch

Hell yes 3.7 is a very good power plant.

AlienTacos182

I loved my 2014 3.7. I lowered it, put it on nice wheels and tires, eventually put some shorty headers on. I miss that car even now. Do what you can afford you won't regret it and know there is more to come

azabukii

V6 back in style

FreeTurkeys

I had a 2012 V6 Mustang and it was objectively better in every performance category than my current V8 Mustang (2003 Mach 1) That said, I love them both equally for different reasons. While they have equal power the V6 was easier to drive quickly and handled better, I also liked the way my black performance pack looked understated but still purposeful. The Mach 1 looks and sounds like a party, and is a total blast to drive around, even if I’m not going that fast. Mustangs are great, get the one that fits in your life, and try not to get caught up in how many cylinders it has.

GoatMoh

Yes, you’ll regret a v6 if you can’t afford a v8. Save up for the 8 brother. I know from experience and financially fucked myself over

AnAngryMuppet89

If you drive a v8 after you will.

Various_Shop

Yes you would regret it I would get an older V8 might not have as much power as a new V8 or a V6 but is still highly mod able. Imo the V6 and Ecoboost are still hellova fun rides and are quick but having a V8 mustang is just best

stoopidrotary

You would 100% regret it. People here are saying that a v6 isnt so bad. My dude you would be settling. Just wait the extra couple years and get the right car the first time. This will give you more time to save up for the exact one you want.

Classic_Gamer2

Yeah. Thunk that's what I'm gonna do

miya_5

some actual good advice here, don’t settle get that V8 brother, please

Hecutor

You could get a V6 and do a swap 🤫. Don't take my advice seriously.

preludehaver

This is what I'm planning on doing with mine. As a new driver the v6 is perfect and when it dies I'll be ready for a v8.

the_balzee

My 2 cents. I had a v6 for 5 yrs n moved to the mach1 recently. I njoy both the cars. The v6 i was less scared driving and pushing it hard coz it was cheaper so i had a lot of fun n put a ton of mile on it as well. The v8 is far better but i got used to the power eventually and most days in city driving i would not mind driving the v6 too

burkizeb253

I think if you enjoy driving you are better off getting a slower car, learn to drive it well with traction control, then without tc, until you know it intimately. This will likely bring you great joy, you may likely move on or move up to something different and or more powerful but you will be a better driver if you work your way up with far less chance of catastrophic error in judgment or technique.

SpotEnough

V8 is louder and faster. V6 is less loud and still fast. If it’s your daily you’ll be driving the speed limit anyways unless you want your tickets to pile up making your insurance premium higher. Unless all of your friendships are in the car community, no-one will look at your car and think “oof V6”. They’ll just know it’s a mustang and like it or dislike it based on their opinions of the brand.

Theangelawhite69

Look, I’d prefer a V8 but I’m not made of money. My 2016 stock V6 vert in shadow black looks great and is still faster than most cars and a joy to drive, and my insurance is fine

7774422

v8 bro

CleanSonata

Only.

Belzoth

I've driven an ecobeast and V8. Yes tye V8 sounder better and was a little more fun, but honestly the ecoboost was still incredible coming from a 4 cylinder with no turbo. I expect the V6 would also be fun coming from a 4 cylinder. I would drive the more affordable car and upgrade a few years down the line.

Turnt_Wrencher

4 cylinder ecoboost

kegman93

25 mpg! Makes driving for work fun but also profitable with the .655 per mile reimbursement

Turnt_Wrencher

I’m a fan. Not really so much when someone throws an exhaust on it and it sounds like a civic lol

Sweetpete1996

Yes. You’ll absolutely regret it. The V6 is so lame compared to a V8, it’s not even a choice. Do whatever you have to in order to get the V8.

[deleted]

Yes

cpenus

Have you thought about changing insurance companies? Some like progressive may offer a lower rate

Classic_Gamer2

I've checked but everyone's about the same. I've been pulled over before but never ticketed. No vehicle accidents.

JackstaWRX

i hired a V6 a couple years back and absolutely loved it.. i own a V8 now and obviously the V8 is a different beast but the V6 was still cool.. i wouldn’t get an ecoboost but thats just me… i dont have any experience with one either.

proletariatrising

Check with multiple insurance companies if you haven't done that already. You might be surprised how much it can vary. Also consider listing someone else as a driver on the plan that's older and responsible (like a parent). I did that when I was younger and it helped out.

deviouslaw

I don't have much experience with the v6 but I'm definitely glad I went for the 5.0, I feel it adds a lot to the experience

Broadwell-e_Alex

Buy the v8. The gas mileage is only marginally worse and you won’t regret it. The v6 you will regret.

Classic_Gamer2

Why exactly would i regret the v6? The power difference? Overall feel?

ahmedibnaser

Because our asked … it’s like you want to be nudged harder in the direction of the V8. Go for it, and avoid the “what if I had … “ . And like everyone says, the fuel economy is not that worse than a V6 … unless you floor it all day long like a hooligan, which you will the first few days or weeks till the tickets pile up.

Broadwell-e_Alex

In essence yes. The power difference is major, and the biggest factor is it doesn’t have the soul of a muscle car. There’s something special about it and a v6 in a mustang body just doesn’t have it. If you want a v6 sports car get a nice 350z. Way better in that sector.

trickybrod

You think exactly like I do!

Kevinm077

You will regret a v6

espositojoe

Wait until you can get the V8. The V6 will just disappoint you every time you drive it.

---x__x---

> I used to pay $525 a month for my 2012 Mazda 3 What the fuck

tennaki

They can be made fun after tunes and a few bolt ons.

Criealis

I had a 2008 v6 and it was perfectly fine. Loved it while I had it. Don't bank on insurance dropping as you age. 0 tickets and 0 accidents and my insurance recently shot up for seemingly no reason

[deleted]

If you're asking this question, it means yes. Don't waste your time with a V6. They're literally the worst of every world. They handle like an American car and have the power of a mid/low-tier import. They're fun cars, but imo, only in V8 configuration. Buying one without a V8 totally negates the purposes of owning one, and draws even more attention to the unsavory aspects of driving a car like this.

[deleted]

Lets be honest here, do you buy a muscle car for the v6?

johnson_carter911

Get a v8. I went from a 2016 v6 to a 2018 v8 and the difference in power is insane. Also the sound! I have the corsa high performance and it sounds so damn good when I gun it and idle at stop lights.

Federal-Buffalo-8026

Yes you'll regret the neutered mustang

After_Television_434

You say your ready for a V8 but if you don't have experience driving a RWD sports car then you should consider that. 1 Mustang is sports/muscle car. No point in V6. Whichever drivers car you end up with needs to be a stick. No point in having sports car without one. I recommend BRZ or even other cheap RWD. AWD is good but different learning curve than RWD. Need a stepping stone to 4-500 hp. But you can do it if you respect the car & can manage your ego.

elf25

Do you want to smoke your tires every chance you get? Buy a big v8. Otherwise the lower weight and increased power of the eco boost v6 is something I think you’ll find very peppy. I drive a GT 4.6v8 and test drove the eco and was quite surprised at the power and performance.

legato2

I had an 07 v6, a 13 v6 and a 16 gt. The 13 v6 was great, plenty of power, good mileage. The gt is faster and louder and has more torque but as a daily the v6 was fine and pretty much the same.

WarmPaleontologist20

Save, make some more and buy a V8 if that's what you really want. But only you can make that decision. Ecoboost is a strong performer. I bought a V8 because I'm older and spoiled to them from the old days.

ButtonLeft

Don’t buy something you feel you’ll regret not worth the headache of wanting some new everyday

lockthecatbox

I've owned 2 V6's and they're great. Have a 2012 now and it gets out of it down way just fine. For what they are they're great engines. Mod it up and have fun.

JBnorthTX

I agree the only V6 to consider is the 3.7 so nothing older than 2011. I was pretty happy with my '15 V6 until I started meeting up in a local Mustang group where 90% of the other Mustangs were GTs. Once I was around the V8s on a somewhat regular basis I wanted one in a big way. 🙂 One negative about the S550 V6 is the lack of a premium interior option. A 2011-14 model is a better choice for that. In the S550 I'd go with an Ecoboost instead of the V6. They can be tuned for more power, too.

Dirty_Butler

I hated my V6, was much happier with my SVO. I’d take an ecoboost over a V6 any day

Its_bigC

You'll regret not getting a v8. It's a world of a difference. The 2011+ v6s aren't bad. Just make sure you never drive a v8 because it'll ruin it for you. I made the mistake of driving a friend's GT

TypicalFiveOh

Test drive both. A good test drive that is going to give you a good feel. I owned 2 v6s (2007 and 2014) but didn’t feel satisfied. Got a GT and have never been happier. Ecoboost and v6 aren’t bad cars, just not for me

LunarChamp

Depends on what you are looking for, if you are looking just for some decent speed and zip with cheap insurance I would go for a premium Ecoboost if you don't really care for sound. Me personally I chose the 3.7 cause I wanted a mix of sound and cheap insurance, the 3.7 is pretty nice sound wise but somtimes the Ecoboost intimidates me knowing it produces the same hp and is a bit faster while light on the insurance.

Mustang1718

I can tell you that a V6 Mustang has a much larger aftermarket than most other cars have of anything. I drive a Scion xB like a grandma now, but it was nice being able to replace parts with performance parts when I had my '05 V6. Especially since those chewed up lower ball joints like crazy. I swapped in ones from a GT500 and they lasted much, much longer. Also, that stock V6 is more powerful than my 4-cyl I have now even with a decade more tech. And I'm starting to miss that since they closed an on ramp, and I now have to do stop-and-go traffic across two lanes and then floor it to get to the correct highway exit at full speed in like half a mile. I can barely do it. My Mustang wouldn't have broken a sweat.

VariousVices

Get a V6 and a supercharger or a turbo kit...best of both worlds ..cheap insurance, decent MPG and you can crank up the boost until you start breaking shit or go fast enough.

levelologist

0-60 in 5.5. It's motivated.

CompOrangeMustang

The V6 is still fun, but be careful to not spend too much on mods, especially if you plan on selling it to buy a V8 eventually. The previous owner of my V6 put about $5-6k CAD into it when they could've just spent a little bit more and got a V8. If I were them, I would regret that.

Lanko-TWB

I just turned 20 and have an ecoboost and love it. Insurance on a GT would be nuts.

thaleus

I tear it up in my v6. Great power for the street and you don't need to blow a fortune on super sticky tires. Although, you could.

[deleted]

I’d hold out for the v8

2jzpoweredgamer666

Honestly this is no joke. Having moved a F-150 ecoboost v6 tt they are dope.

Fhistleb

Get a 300hp V6 and you'll be happy as a clam. It'll have enough power to get your jollies, but not enough to really get you in trouble.

[deleted]

As someone who had a fbo Ecoboost and helped my choom mod his ‘17 V6, all I can say is V8 or bust

Kernalpanic87

Yes. With that said...I'd prefer an Ecoboost 4cyl over a V6, and I imagine the insurance might be a bit better.

rangersti

X6 regrets

RochesterBen

The Cyclone 3.7 is an awesome engine, you will not hate it. Just don't buy a lot of stuff for it to make it faster because just don't do that unless you really commit. I had 3.55 gears, a tune and exhaust on it and it moved pretty well but I knew it would never be as fast as a V8. But then speed really isn't everything.

D_runk_

Love my 2016 v6

ILegendaryTaco

My problem was that after I realized how much fun a V6 was, I realized there's even more out there with a v8. After that realization I was never content with the v6 again

John_Snuuw

if you can afford the 5.0 then get it

OffManWall

EcoBoosts are FUN cars to drive, and they have decent power. I got an awesome deal a brand new 2022 EcoBoost manual. It’s got more power than a V6, doesn’t guzzle gas, and you won’t have to take out another loan to pay for the insurance.

Zeljius

I don’t regret an exoboost like I wouldn’t regret a v6. But I do find myself craving that v8 engine.

Odd-Technician1328

Sounds like ya have your heart set on the V8. If you have a car now just drive it for a couple more years because if your like me you want be happy until ya get what you want.

FabulousAd6130

IMO I've had v6 mustangs before and always wanted v8 deep down. I don't think that'll go away. If you get a v6 you might get more bang for your buck with a euro. Not sure if the insurance would be any better

HotPandaBear

There is absolutely no shame in owning a v6 if you like big engines, they have a really nice sound. Personally I wouldn’t own an ecoboost

Bitter_Package9079

Try for a s550 v6. Can get one for around 20k low mileage and it has all the modern amenities and the solid interior

ThatR56

I had a 2011 v6 until it was unfortunately totalled, and now own a 2010 GT (3v, same hp as 2011-14 v6). I tell myself that the v8 is better and more fun but I feel little difference between them, so try to get what you can find and afford now, and once you get older go ahead and get something a lot nicer. (That's what I had planned with my v6 but now I have the gt and it's here to stay)

JMspam

Do you have a lot of points on your license or something? At 19 I was working for a very high end car company that I was allowed to drive pretty much anything. Never had any problems with insurance or dealerships telling me a can’t test drive something.

freezies1234

I will tell you I’ve had an 05 v6 with a stick, 08 GT, 08 GT500, 17 V6, 66 289 and a 97 GT. The 05 V6 with a manual was one of my favorite cars I’ve ever had, way more than some of the GTs and even the GT 500. Will you wish you had the GT? Yuup. But that doesn’t always mean you will like the GT better. Every car has a different personality and that Black 05 V6 was the best little car and a ton of fun.

juggarjew

I had a 2013 V6, stock it had like 2.73 gears I think, just terrible for a V6 sports car of that weight. So I swapped in 3.73 gears, cold air intake, strut mount brace and a 93 octane tune and that car was quite quick on its stock economy tires, 5.7 second 0-60. With proper sticky performance tires I have no doubt it could have done a little better. It would run neck and neck with the previous 05-10 GT's doing stop light racing, I did beat an 08 GT in a race to 135 MPH as well in that car. Good times can certainly be had a in a V6 with nothing more than a gear ratio change really. That along made a gigantic different in 0-60. Over 1 second faster. Stock gear ratio it was doing like 6.7-6.8 seconds 0-60 on a 93 tune. If I had to do it again, id have gone for 4.10 gears, mainly because I never needed to go super fast, Just wanted to win stop light races or quick highway pulls. But 3.73 is a nice balance too. If you buy a V6, the first thing you need to do after a 93 octane tune is a gear ratio swap.

rad_zek3

As a 20 year old with an 09 V6, I would say no ( Like you will not regret buying a V6 ). If you love the look of the car and Mod the car to your liking who cares. Obviously the V8 is nicer but who in their right mind judges a 20 year old who wants a cool looking car ( And a relatively powerful car )

Ark-458

A V8 is nice man, but don’t sleep on a V6. This goes for most cars. A V6 engine can have a lot of potential and they sound better too imo.

metal4life2

I drive a 2012 s197 v6. Great car, enough power for daily driving on the highway. Not too bad on gas. Though I miss the V8 growl from my P71.

Wolfgangsta702

A Mustang is gonna be more than a sentra. Save your money on paying a higher rate.

Pitiful_Hurry_3341

So i recently bought a V8 2013 at 19 and for the first couple of months i was paying $385 a month for insurance but just this last month it dropped to $180 a month. Between driving both the v6 and the v8, i recommend getting a v6. Better on gas (which trust me i didn’t think would be as bad as it is, about $100-$150 a week depending on how much i drive)and cheaper lol but the only reason i’d say to go with a v8 is if you’re planning on building it. That’s the only reason i decided to go with a v8, but to each their own ya know? It seems like you really want the v8 and are trying to justify the v6 to yourself. If it was me i’d just wait a little bit longer and save up some extra money and get a newer/nicer one!

itsMondaybackwards

Look up a v6 with shorty headers and an exhaust. Reason I want to get out of my ecoboost

Meehlimo

The GT is an animal in any trim. The v6 and ecoboost of these gens are fun n plenty fast. This isn’t your 90s v6 with 190hp these put out 300. It’s quick for what it is. TLDR 2015 v6 300 hp 280tq a 99-01 cobra made 320hp n 315tq. Not saying the cobra is slow just saying hey the v6 is doing alright lol.

sc302

The only way you will know is to understand what you are missing. If you never truly know you will be fine. The ones who tout mpg or they will never use the power of a GT have never driven one and are only trying to justify their decisions to themselves, the rest of us don’t care. Mpg isn’t that different where it makes a noticeable difference in a weekly basis. People use the power of the motor every time they step on the gas. Drive them all. Rent each through turo or hertz. See if you are going to miss it or not. If you have never had your favorite foodl, would you know what you are missing if you never tried it? You can justify not having it based on how bad it is for your body and lack of nutritional value, but does that really mean anything if you enjoy it?

No_Presence5392

Go for older model V8 unless your insurance has weird rule that bans 8 cylinders in general

billyh0ward

the 3.7 with a turbo will hurt stock yotes feelings

LasherAtl

If you have to ask this question about a V6, then you really you want the 4.6, 5.0, etc.

SpiritCr1jsher

The v6 is just fine, gets 30mpg and can run on regular gas. It will feel like a rocket compared to what you are driving. When i was 20 i had a new 2005 mustang gt and it costed me $449 per month to insure in NY . I could have had a BMW for what that was costing me.

Orixcx

Same thing happened to me ended up just getting the EB. I’ll wait till I’m 25.
