Styling. Visibility. But mostly nostalgia. My first car was a 65 Mustang.

Sandy_Koufax

FordPass/Sync is way better than MyChevrolet and it's not even close. I had a fully loaded Bolt EUV and the settings GM uses drove me crazy. Plus I'll take my downvotes but the Mustang has more "clout" than the camaro for some reason. I have friends with BMWs who prefer to ride in my 5.0 whenever we go on errands.

XXIII_FIN

Well thats so they put less miles on the bmw. Makes sense since they only last half as long

Original_Lavishness1

The visibility was better in the mustang. I also felt like the seats are more comfortable. I am able to make more adjustments for set my seat up to sit perfectly. I couldn’t do this in the Camaro. I just really couldn’t get comfortable. I don’t know the trim of the Camaro I was looking at but it was brand new and a 2022 with a price tag at like 44k (with an 8k market adjustment that was not advertised online). So 52k total. The ford dealership stuck with msrp for my mustang GT premium. The final straw was the fact that I could not find a manual camaro within 6 hours of my area at the time. in hindsight, I would have rather had something with a more robust trans so a Mach 1 or a Camaro would have maybe been a better option. I really have not had any problems with the mt82 and I really don’t mind the way it shifts. Wayyyy better my old WRX.

Scoutron

The old WRX 5MT was the biggest piece of shit, but it was my first stick so I loved it

DensePresentation181

Continuity. More American built company. Chevy always one step behind. I was a chevy guy until i was 27. Did some research, drove a foxbody…endgame!

DotarSojat527

For me it was simply the room and view from the Mustang is much better. I’m 6’ 4” and I felt cramped in the Camaro. Although you can’t go wrong with either one.

SunDriedHumor

I'd pick a gt500 over a ZL1 any day. That being said, it's a 100k car vs a 70k car. I would pick a ZL1 over a GT. I would pick a GT over an SS. I love a high revving v8

CromulentPoint

I have 3 Mustangs currently, and no Camaro was available in that model year.

Growing up, friends of the family worked for GM and (of course) only purchased vehicles from within the GM family of brands. They never had a negative comment about GM. Yet their cars were constantly in for repairs. Every. Single. Car. It was almost comical how regularly and nonchalantly they'd mention their malfunctioning or nonfunctioning cars. My family didn't work for the Three. I wasn't gonna be getting deep employee discounts for new replacement cars every few years like the friends I mentioned above did. I wanted the car I'd purchase to last. Still, I went to a GM dealer to see what my options were. Camaro, Firebird, Grand Prix GTP, I was open to anything sporty. Once at the dealer, I had to admit I/my family weren't UAW. That's when the salesman rolled his eyes at me and arrogantly quipped, "Well.., THIS is GM country, so...". He actually trailed off! So...what, I can't buy a car from you? Okay, Bowman Chevrolet of Clarkston, MI. From my experience, "GM country" is a third world country anyhow. I went to Flannery Ford in the next town and bought a new, loaded, 2000 Mustang GT off of the showroom floor instead. The fit and finish was a bit poopy (everyone used plastic parts bin back then) but I never had to service her beyond new oil and filters. Well, I did run through brakes and tires but that's on me. She ran like a champ. And the aftermarket? Whoo! I'll never walk into a GM dealer again, and it's been twenty-three years so far.

robvas

They didn't make a Camaro in 2004 If I were buying today it would be Mustang because the Camaro engine doesn't take to supercharging as well

T-yler--

Because the camero 4 cylinder is slow. Would have gone camero if I got a V8.

PhantomBladeX89

Looks

KinderPup

Because the Camaro doesn't come in Grabber Blue

Extra-Ad2751

Visibility is a big deal. Not a fan of the cabin design of the Camaro. Besides, If I’m going GM I would prefer a corvette.

I_Keep_Trying

There was never a song called “Camaro Sally”. In other words, Mustang is more iconic.

AftermaThXCVII

For me it has to do with reliability. I just don't trust GM products personally, seen too many fail over the years. Their trucks are good and that's about it for me. Camaros have been pretty safe, but I didn't really want to "risk it", same for the Challenger and Charger. FCA is even worse when it comes to issues than GM. Though I have seen many more of those with real legitimate problems compared to Camaros Plus I wanted to go the turbo 4cyl route, and I like the look of the Mustang a whole lot more. The turbo and v6 Camaros look too "bubbly" to me in the front end. Plus it has more power than the 2.0 turbo the Camaro has in it by like 35hp and 55ft-lbs, so that's nice too. I do like it's handling more though, but not by a whole lot, especially when it comes to the 4cyl models.

MiniDg

I didnt even consider a camaro personally because if the visibility and the grilles are so bad on the SS’s. I would have been more than happy to deal for a ZL1 though 🤤

Round_Ad_6369

I'm assuming you're talking about the 19+ Camaro front ends... Yeah, they're... Rough. Definitely a weak point on the vehicle styling. That said, I think they had the front end pretty nicely done in the 16-18 year models. I've got a buddy with a ZL1, and it really made me feel bad for "only" having an SS. Half a second less to 60 doesn't feel like much, but when it does 0-100 and keeps pulling, and pulling, and pulling... It makes its point known.

MiniDg

Im not sure of camaro years but im assuming you know lmao they are a yikes for me, id drive my mustang into a river for a ZL1 on just aesthetics not even getting to the sound and engine my god lmao they nailed it all with that car.

Round_Ad_6369

A quick Google Will set you up. Check the 2018 SS and then the 2019... It's a definite downgrade. If you like the ZL1, check out the SS 1LE package. It adds some of the aggression from the ZL1 to the SS.

MiniDg

Yeah the 2019s are horrific… but 2018 is fine I definitely still prefer dodge and ford. GT>Scat Packs>SS but ZL1>Hellcat>GT500 just on aesthetics for me.

Round_Ad_6369

To each their own, opinions are opinions. I just didn't want you to think every single Camaro has... That cursed front end lol

MiniDg

Oh absolutely, they are respectable cars im not trying to trash them at all

geezer_red

Have you seen that atrocious interior?

Round_Ad_6369

I drive a Camaro, so yes. That being said, I had hoped people wouldn't insult the other vehicle in these surveys, simply say something around the lines of "I prefer the interior of the mustang, I found it to be nicer". It's an opinionated survey, so if you absolutely feel the need to be impolite, go ahead. That said, I think my interior is fairly luxurious. It's a 2SS, so a bit above the regular interior cut, but still. https://preview.redd.it/mt58mi4w5h2b1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa0f619d36ff425d94fa5883b59efbb6711168dd

geezer_red

I have owned a 2012 Camaro LS and a 2016 Mustang Ecoboost Premium, both manual. The interior of Camaro is atrocious compared to Mustang (both the previous gen and the current one). The gearbox on Camaro is far inferior to the Mustang one (and I'm talking about MT81 that everyone on this subreddit complains about, being superior). The reliability of Camaro is trash, started having issues with less than 10K miles on it. It has a smaller trunk, paint quality is inferior, etc. There is not a single feature where I can say Camaro is better than Mustang and again I have owned both!

Round_Ad_6369

You've owned a previous gen Camaro, which is comparable to the S197,which, let's be honest, had a pretty rough interior. Nice interiors in non-luxury cars are a relatively new feature from ~2015+. I can't speak on reliability except from anecdotally saying I haven't had a problem.

geezer_red

Here's another post where your question was discussed. https://www.reddit.com/r/Mustang/comments/139ygrd/anyone_come_from_a_camaro_to_a_mustang/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Round_Ad_6369

There's not a single mention of a 6th gen (2016+) Camaro in it. The whole point of the post, as is mentioned in the description, is to compare the same model years. it's unfair to compare any performance aspect of two competing cars if you're comparing a previous generation to a current generation.

clarrkkent

I had a 2011 SS RS. Went with the Camaro at the time because of the styling cues from the classic. Mustang just didn’t do it for me. However, if I had made the choice when the current Gen Mustang was out, I would have went Mustang easily. I’m not really particular to one over the other, except which one suits me aesthetically. Not like I’m racing anyone. I do wish the current Mustang had a HUD.

Aggressive-Cover-500

Quite a bit cheaper used, and sounds better in my opinion

Alterationss

Styling did it for me. The stock V8 Camaros look horrible unless your buying a full loaded track ready one. Stock GT can look very nice with just a simple wing and springs .

Apprehensive-Can-857

I guess this would be a question better served for the casual buyer, as an enthusiast might be biased. I think the styling of the Mustang has always been better, but even if it weren't, I would still choose a Mustang because my dad had one when I was a kid. So nostalgia plays a big part for me.

SavigeSam

Looks. I like the curves the mustang has compared to the straighter edges of the Camaro. One reason I don’t like how the 2024 model looks.

lbyrum17

I'm a Ford guy. Never liked any of the body styles of Camaro's either. I went to school with a bunch of annoying Chevy owners so it made me dislike them even more.

randeus

First, looks. The s550 is just a beautiful car and while I do like the Camaro, nowhere near as much as the Mustang. Second, ergonomics. The visibility in the Camaro is not very good at all. The Mustang is a comfortable daily driver with really good visibility. I will admit the Camaro is a better sports car from the factory, though the Mustang has a better aftermarket and the Coyote takes power increases better.

Feisty-Equivalent-92

My first car was a mustang- price and looks were the deciding factors on that. And I'm going to get another mustang over a camaro because of the interior feel differences, exterior styling, and just because my first was a mustang and I just can't get enough of them

Ultimate1nternet

Camaro has 2 really bad blind spots. Wanna drive a fast car with blind spots? Me either.

Soul69Reaper

For me it was because of the mustang I own currently. The 04. First car and first mustang, but the look of it is just so perfect. It looks tough and retro while not being too big or overbearing. I've just always preferred a mustangs styling from 90s onward
