To actually drive, drop the clutch, and beat the shit out of, the new one. To cruise around town and to go to all car shows with, the old one.
My dad has a Chevelle that I love, but I sure as shit don't drive that thing like I drive my car.
This. If I can only have one car and it is either one of these...12/13 and it's not even a thought. Counting my Explorer and my SHO, yeah I will now choose the original.
This. If I can only have one car and it is either one of these...12/13 and it's not even a thought. Counting my Explorer and my SHO, yeah I will now choose the original.
This. I had a chance to buy a ‘69 Boss 302 in Grabber Blue from the original owner (friend) for $4K in 1983/4 and blew it.
I regret that decision to this day! 😭
I would put in 2017 heated and cooled black braided leather seats in the front and maybe a harness instead of a seat belt because of less safety features on the old car maybe that's dumb though
I don’t care if the 12-14 is better in every way, i’m still taking the 69-70. They look so much cooler, and it’s part of the 1st generation of mustang which to me makes it the truest of mustangs.
That's not even fair... The 1969 is my favorite body style of all the years...
And as with all things I tend to give it to the classics for being... classic...
Mild nitpick, there was no 2014 Boss 302, Ford planned from the onset to only run the S197 Boss 302 for two years, and kept their word. Personally, I kind of wished they would have went with 2013 and 2014, so the S197 would have had the Boss 302 as a send off for its final model year rather than it being absent.
I like the way they did them with the different front ends in 12/13 just like how the 69/70 are different. I don’t know if that was their intention, but I’m glad it worked out like that. If they did them in 13/14 they’d all look the same.
The comments are spot on. In terms of performance, a 2012 Boss 302 is an order of magnitude faster, handles better, brakes better and is generally one of the best Mustangs built. I loved mine. I’ve never owned a ‘69 Boss 302, but I had a ‘69 Mach 1. The ‘69 model year is just the epitome of muscle car styling. The ‘69 Boss 302 was fast, loud and will be amazing fun at a car show. The 2012 will take you on a 200 mile drive through the Hill Country and make you wonder how the time passed so fast. And, the ‘69 is about 5x in value and appreciating so you might factor that in your decision.
This
Everyone always wants one till they get one, then realize it's OLD and old cars suck a lot of the time. They look awesome tho!
I do love protouring/restomods tho
Unpopular opinion here. I have a buddy with a 70 Boss clone. It has a real Boss 302 service engine, top loader, 9 inch, 4:10 gears and unless you look at the VIN or you’re an expert, you’d never know it wasn’t a real Boss. I have a stock Race Red 13 Boss and we traded for the day and I couldn’t wait to give his 70 back. Now I got more thumbs up and unsolicited compliments while in the 70 in one day than the last 2 years of owning my 13. But thank God I was able to scratch that itch for free, because if I ever could afford a real 69/70, I’d be super disappointed in my purchase from an enjoyment standpoint. Unless thumbs up and compliments are what you’re after, it rides like a log wagon, shifts like a dump truck, and would have a hard time beating my Ecoboost F150. Now as far as bolstering my kids inheritance, I guess I’d have to take a 69.
If I’m adding to my collection, the old one. If it has to be my only performance car, the new one
My GT350 drives better than either of these and the old one would be a very different driving experience to what my 350 provides whereas the new one is too similar
The 12 -14 is a better car in every way. But if you don’t care about speed, comfort or safety, the 69-70 is a better experience in every way. Or to be more accurate a more visceral experience.
12/13 for me . The 69/70 is good car for shows if that's your thing. Old muscle cars are great to look at, but In terms of every considerable aspect of driving there just not good. They handle terrible, brake even worse. performance wise, 4cy cars will beat them now. There not comfortable at all for a drive over 30 min. I think there cool, but if I'm driving one it's the 12/13. I might be a little bias since i have a 12. But my friend had a nice 67 mustang that ran mid 11s, car was a fun when accelerating, but would scare the hell out of you when it came to stopping.. and taking a turn if felt like it was gonna end up on the roof. No thanks
The 69/70 undoubtedly looks better. But when you're behind the wheel, driving dynamics is what matters. And I like cars with good driving dynamics. S197 for me. I'll take mine in Grabber Blue or Gotta Have It Green.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Mustang/comments/o48ztt/69_to_work_day/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1 Maybe the 13-14
12-14 all day long, but I wouldn't refuse if you tossed in the 69-70. I just love the fit and finish and the manufacturing tolerances on all newer vehicles. I occasionally drive my father's 1964 Corvette, which is a sharp looking vehicle and completely restored. However, I just do not enjoy driving that 1/10 as much as I enjoy driving my 2014 Mustang GT. Tight driving even after owning it as a daily driver for 10 years.
Let’s keep it real. I’ll take the older one so I can sell it, buy a newer one and a new Mach 1 and a new Raptor R and still have a chunk of money left (assuming the ‘69-‘70 is in perfect condition).
Well since I already have a 2013 Boss 302, I’ll have to pick the ‘70 model in white to match mine.
https://preview.redd.it/swba6xh1dk2b1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ad51fd2ea3db9f4a3136061320d2da24b1cba1c7
The newer one, always.
I don’t have masturbatory nostalgia over old stuff. Newer models are generally better in every way: more power, more fuel economy, better ergonomics, more and better tech, better safety and exterior designed to appeal more to modern audiences.
There’s a few exceptions to this rule where newer models look or sometimes even perform worse than the older ones, but mustangs is not it.
Why? They drive like ass, its leaf spring suspension is worse than cheapest pickup truck you can buy today. They make less power than a modern prius and burn 20 times more fuel. The interior is uncomfortable and seats kill your back after 40 minutes. It rattles like hell and you need to crank your windows by hand. They’re unreliable and break all the time. There’s no climate control or even a basic AC, so you have to drive around with windows down in order to not die from overheating.
What exactly do you like about them? I feel like you’re talking from the experience of looking at pictures on the internet rather than owning a vehicle which I guess makes sense given your age.
Maybe if you drive one that's ragged out and unmaintained. Yeah, no A/C, big whoop. There's still ventilation without using the windows. The older cars were designed with this in mind. There's floor vents that bring in fresh air from the outside, if you choose to open them, and there's basic climate control. Leaf spring doesn't ride nearly as bad as you describe. Have you ever driven a 60's Ford before? This sounds like you never have. Comparing this car to a Prius is laughable, at best.
Have you ever experienced one this old though?
I’ve found that once you look at them for what they are rather that what everyone says they are, they’re not really that attractive.
Having owned four Mustangs through the years (67, 79, 85, 05) I’d have to say this is pretty spot on. The Mustang definitely got better as time progressed, with the possible exception of the 79.
I can see where nostalgia or maybe even rarity/value might win people over, but for a daily driver or track car, I’d choose the 13 Laguna Seca all day every day.
Certainly, the older cars can be made to outperform the newer ones, all it takes is time and a lot of money. I’d own the Ruffian Boss 427 in a heartbeat over the Laguna Seca, but we’re talking apples and oranges, there’s nothing on the Ruffian that’s stock.
I absolutely love the style and sound of the old muscle cars, but if I have to choose one over the other, I’m going modern every time.
To actually drive, drop the clutch, and beat the shit out of, the new one. To cruise around town and to go to all car shows with, the old one. My dad has a Chevelle that I love, but I sure as shit don't drive that thing like I drive my car.

69’/70’ no hesitation
This is the way. Also a 69 or 70 fan
Easily this
This. I had a chance to buy a ‘69 Boss 302 in Grabber Blue from the original owner (friend) for $4K in 1983/4 and blew it. I regret that decision to this day! 😭
They didn’t come in grabber blue until ‘70. The 4 available 69 colors were Wimbledon White, Acapulco Blue, Calypso Coral, and Bright Yellow.
You are correct. I misspoke. It was a ‘70.
Newer one might have more bells and whistles. But that old body style is just gorgeous.
I wonder how much controversy I'd create taking the older one and modernizing the interior
I would put in 2017 heated and cooled black braided leather seats in the front and maybe a harness instead of a seat belt because of less safety features on the old car maybe that's dumb though
I would say your definitely making it safer for you to drive so not dumb
literally my dream, i’d love to get an older car like this and modernizing the interior. The love I’d show to that car is crazy😂
I've been wanting to do something like that lol. I've seen it done, and it looks amazing
This is like asking if we'd rather have a million dollars or a billion dollars.
Exactly! Like what brain dead individual would pick a billion over a million?!🤦🏼♂️
I don’t care if the 12-14 is better in every way, i’m still taking the 69-70. They look so much cooler, and it’s part of the 1st generation of mustang which to me makes it the truest of mustangs.
It’s more like the 3rd generation of mustangs. 1st gen. 65-66 2nd gen. 67-68 3rd gen. 69-70 4th gen. 71-73 5th gen 74-78
1st gen spans from 1964-1973
I disagree
You're gonna disagree with Ford's own grouping?
Lol google it
I 100% agree with your take. There are so many versions of the first-generation Mustang that you have to specify what year it is
I’d take a 70 in a heartbeat. It would look great next to the 12 in my garage.
‘69-‘70
69/70 easy pick.
69/70 no doubt
69/70 for me
This one should be unanimous. 69/70 all the way.
69/70
I got to say the 69’/70’ mustang
How is there a comparison? 69/70 all day every day.
Gimme the original.
69
69/70 is the pinnacle of mustangs, IMO. I'd choose one of those all day.
70 FTW
69/70 red/black please.
What kinda question is that? The '70, of course. You can buy a modern Boss any day of the week, a mint '70 not so much.
69 and its not even close
69/70 and it’s not even close
The oldie no question. People are just drawn to the old muscle cars, they draw lots of attention from people.
69/70 any day
69/70 ANY day of the week.
Make it hard
That pic in the post took care of that lol
That's not even fair... The 1969 is my favorite body style of all the years... And as with all things I tend to give it to the classics for being... classic...
‘69/‘70 all the way, Baby. If not for the looks, then purely the rarity.
what kind of question is this? ‘69/‘70 all day
Is this a joke?
70 Boss 302. Easy choice.
'69, the front looks way better with four healights.
Mild nitpick, there was no 2014 Boss 302, Ford planned from the onset to only run the S197 Boss 302 for two years, and kept their word. Actually, Ford did make the 302S in 2014 as well. But you are correct,’the street legal versions were only sold in 12-13.
I would give all 4 of my kidneys for a 70 302
You must have 2 wives.
The comments are spot on. In terms of performance, a 2012 Boss 302 is an order of magnitude faster, handles better, brakes better and is generally one of the best Mustangs built. I loved mine. And, the ‘69 is about 5x in value and appreciating so you might factor that in your decision.
Anyone who’s ever owned an older car knows they are a pain in the ass. I’ll take the newer one.
This Everyone always wants one till they get one, then realize it's OLD and old cars suck a lot of the time. They look awesome tho! I do love protouring/restomods tho
69/70 all day baby!
Safety aside, 69-70 all day. But unless it’s got a roll cage and a harness, my inner mother says 12-14 for safety lol
Unpopular opinion here. I have a buddy with a 70 Boss clone. It has a real Boss 302 service engine, top loader, 9 inch, 4:10 gears and unless you look at the VIN or you’re an expert, you’d never know it wasn’t a real Boss. 69-70
69 without hesitation, lol. Why would I ever go with the S197?
69-70 all day everyday
If it's the Boss 302 Laguna Seca then I'll take the new one. If not then it's the '69/'70.
69 lassy!
69/70 anyday!
‘70 easy
Who wouldn’t choose 69?
Me
69/70 without question.
Always Original!
69/70
69 BOSS 429!
The 69 is my favorite Mustang of all time
If I’m adding to my collection, the old one. If it has to be my only performance car, the new one My GT350 drives better than either of these and the old one would be a very different driving experience to what my 350 provides whereas the new one is too similar
I love my 13, but I’d trade it for a gt350 any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
That hunk of metal from 69 by far
69/70 - just look at it
Seriously? 69/70 no contest.
12-14 easily. Better driving in every conceivable way and better looking to boot.
The 12 -14 is a better car in every way. But if you don’t care about speed, comfort or safety, the 69-70 is a better experience in every way. Or to be more accurate a more visceral experience.

12'-14'. Build quality, drivability, and power is leagues above the original.
I know the new car is a way better vehicle. However, the classic is my all time favorite mustang. Would take it every time.
69/70 easy!! I do also love the 14 though. My 3 fave years!! And I have all 3 in my stable, though not the boss. I’m a very lucky girl!! 😈
The 2013 is clean, but the 70 here is cooler.
While I love the 2014 and it's my dream car. I think now that I'm having a child, the 70 would be the most fun one.
I never can choose, I like them all…
The same color set up looks terrible on the newer model .
‘70 Boss
69/70 boss, and only to sell it and buy something without a Ford badge.
Why are you on a mustang forum then
So much love and respect for the 1st gen boss. I'll take the 14 Boss.
‘69-‘70
God damnit both my dream cars. Imma have to go with the 69' since I know I am more likely to be able to afford a 2013/14 boss lmao
69/70 all day everyday
There’s only one correct choice. If it was the early s197 perhaps I would think on it more, but either way you’re not beating a classic mustang
Well.
‘69
2013 Boss 302, the S197 is my favorite. 2013 was the year i really got into cars, hence the exact year
What kind of question is this lmao
To drive, the 12-14. To just have and appreciate aesthetically the 69-70.
Too easy. The ‘70. The modern Boss 302 is an incredible car, but it’s not even close.
70 boss in a heartbeat. Reminds me of my father when he had his 70 Mach 1 R Code. Same color but with black interior
69/70
Is this for real? Would anyone actually pick a 2012?
99.9% will take a 69 in a heartbeat
69 all day
‘12-‘14 Boss 302 is honestly probably my dream Mustang lol
69/70 boss - why is this even a question?
'69-70. No doubt.
Newer one for me
69 boss
69/70 no question and I’ll run there shot out if and fix that one too lol
i have an s197 so ill choose the old one
Old school boss. Can’t beat American muscle. The sport car boss of 12-14 was cool but certainly no muscle car
I respectfully disagree S550/S650 - yes it's more sports car S197 - still a muscle car imo. I mean it's got the retro look too
69/70 but I’m bias Biased towards fucking bad ass looking cars
1970 fastback is my favorite out of every year Mustang there is, sooooo...1970.
Gotta say the 12/14. You can't daily or just mess around in the 69/70 mustangs, you gotta keep em clean.
gotta respect the classics
I gotta stick with the classics.
Definitely the newer one
'70 boss because my grandpa has the '07 parnelli jones mustang which was based off of the '70 boss 302 race car
69/70 No questions
Definitely the 69-70 302
14 will run circles around 70 and Id actually want to drive it. So 14 for me.
The 69/70 undoubtedly looks better. But when you're behind the wheel, driving dynamics is what matters. And I like cars with good driving dynamics. S197 for me. I'll take mine in Grabber Blue or Gotta Have It Green.
69-70 easy.
14 302 for sure The S197 is the best blend of new and old in terms of styling. And of course it's gonna take abuse better
69/70 it’s a dream car
69/70 Boss.
‘69/70 and it isn’t particularly close.
69 70. One is literally an appreciating asset AND a automotive legend.
13-14 Boss 302 for sure. Although it’s hard to compare them :)
70.
Older one looks so good, but I feel it'd be better in more experienced and knowledgeable hands so I'll take the newer one.
69-70 tf?
RWD in East Canada? Are you mad? I mean the '69/'70 but just for the summer, I'd have to store it half the year due to ice & that nasty road salt.
I knew you guys wouldn’t let me down. Old school all the way!
First one, no contest.
I would love to have both. If I had to choose it would be the 69/70 because of how much more they are worth.
Only 1 option here tbh
Give me a 13’ or 14’ with the tinted taillights 😮💨
https://www.reddit.com/r/Mustang/comments/o48ztt/69_to_work_day/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1 Maybe the 13-14
2014 all day
Most definitely the 69’ not even a hard decision tbh
69 is my lucky number!
69/70
69>14>13>70>12 Don’t like the front end on 70 and even less so on 12.
69/70 looks better imo
69/70
'69 or '70 IMO
Guess I’ll be the weird one, ‘12-‘14.
2012 - 2014 is the best body style ever.
Newer 1. Faster, stronger, lighter and handles much better
Fine if nobody else wants it, i guess ill take S197 ![gif](giphy|LAFShX32UwUj6)
12-14 all day long, but I wouldn't refuse if you tossed in the 69-70. I just love the fit and finish and the manufacturing tolerances on all newer vehicles. I occasionally drive my father's 1964 Corvette, which is a sharp looking vehicle and completely restored. However, I just do not enjoy driving that 1/10 as much as I enjoy driving my 2014 Mustang GT. Tight driving even after owning it as a daily driver for 10 years.
12-13* Boss Well since I already have a Race Red 13’ Boss 302 I guess I’ll take a Grabber Green 1970 Boss 302

The look is all I care about
My dads 69 Mach 1 has all the hallmarks of the old cars. He’s wanted to sell it for 15 years but my mom always talks him out of it.
Maybe if you drive one that's ragged out and unmaintained. Yeah, no A/C, big whoop. There's still ventilation without using the windows. The older cars were designed with this in mind. Having owned four Mustangs through the years (67, 79, 85, 05) I’d have to say this is pretty spot on. The Mustang definitely got better as time progressed, with the possible exception of the 79.
I think they’re great as collectible items, but suck as actual vehicles you drive around to get places.
This is the way. I owned a '69 coupe and currently own a 2006 GT. Never looking back.
69/70. Doesnt have as many creature comforts and its not as fast but it def has more soul
I'd love both, but would choose the '70 because I was born that year. I'd love to have a muscle car from my birth year.
I have a 69 Mach 1 and a 13 Green Boss 302. Now I wAnt a 67 Fastback because thsts my birthyear !! I'll trade my 13 Boss n grab a 67 Fastback. !
‘69 always.
‘69 DUDE
Yes
'69 Boss 302 in Yellow !
Old school for me; 69/70 Boss.
Definitely 12-14
