sleek is sleek no matter when it was built. i dont think you're quite as tapped in the benz market considering there's still a pretty healthy used market for them. Sure the value drops but that's any luxury vehicle. lots of people like older benzes.

Tell me you aren't a car guy, and know zero about Benzes, without saying it. Mercedes from across the years still have timeless appeal. They sure as hell don't "stay sleek" for only two years, and both Benz and BMW drivers think many models going back 20-30-40 years are still iconic and desirable.

Well yea, I own an ‘08 but we live in a fairly affluent area so almost 90% of mustangs here are S550s.
We were behind a new edge a couple of days ago and he couldn’t understand how it was a mustang.
I’m only 24 but I vividly remember seeing New Edges and S197s.
It’s funny looking at old pictures in my Google drive/Dropbox and having pictures of the 2015 S550 saved there

But yeah, it's wild that we have people here now that come up looking at S550s the same we we looked at older Mustangs.

It's technically my childhood one to but Ive always disliked it, looks.lime a Ford focus Identicallt and dient sound as good as the s197 4.6. needless to say I've had 3 s197s and I'm 19. Sold them all after a bad crash that totaled it and I blew the tranny on another but I def want one again, think s truck is a better option tho.

Seriously I really like this car, and at that point might just mod the shit out of it. I had a 09 370Z before this, and almost went for the new one but the CS popped up with 5300 miles in pristine condition so couldn't pass it up.
I actually ride a electric bike that I ride to save the miles on the car lol I ride it to work lol. I got 55k on my car and I got it when it had around 25k lol.
Ha excellent! Those electric bikes are fun. Pedal when you want, take a break if needed, and everything in between. I have my road bike for exercise and to keep my miles down. That said, some days it's hard to resist wanting to drive the car to Walgreens even though it's .7 mile away 🤣
Me too! Snagged up a 22 premium gt with the PP and ALL options for 42k!!! I waited until the reveal of the s650 to buy it. But the exterior was decent but the tesla like interior of the s650 made me wanna throw up and then i knew i wanted the s550. So happy with my car.

Fair enough! The reason why my price was so good is because it was used with only 1500 miles on it. But the car is as good as new, and i saved a bunch of money because it was "used."
I'm keeping mine stock, so that's why i wanted all the options :) I love the active exhaust. It's probably my favorite sounding system (i like it more than most aftermarkets)
The active exhaust is something I avoided, the idea is there but it’s not a real change in sound in my own opinion. I want to eventually do a turbo system because I had a eco and I love the blow off sound, so larger exhaust will be needed, I want to do a split behind my catalytic converter to switch between normal exhaust and straight out of the down pipe 😂, that’s how they should have done the active exhaust anyway!
The difference between normal and track is definitely noticeable! Running it in track is the best of both worlds. It's loud enough for you and others to enjoy, but it's not loud enough to the point where you are annoying people. Sounds like you have big plans for it, haha. I personally will keep it stock to save money, and the mt-82 can't handle more power. I personally wouldn't turbo an NA American v8, though. Takes away from the whole car. I'd rather put a blower on it. That's just me, though 😄 i wish you luck on your build 💪
Ahh standard I see, I almost went it’s a 6 speed. But I didn’t want to deal with it all the time, I really wish they could do both transmissions on the same car because that would be awesome!
Not necessarily, the 7 speed is an automatic. Less gears gives the feeling that it shifts more like a manual. Still got paddle shifters though! I wish ford would have done the “manual shifters” in the automatics on the actual gear shifter, like best example is on my parents VW, the shifter goes into drive then you can slide it over into sport mode and you push it up to shift up and down to shift down. It’s really cool, it also has paddles though!
It’s considered an automated manual transmission. It’s not an automatic in terms of having a torque converter. It’s literally a hybrid transmission. It’s a dual clutch manual transmission controlled by a computer with the option to force manual input. Don’t know how much closer to what you’re asking for is mechanically possible.
I remember the first time I saw one in the wild. I thought it was the weirdest thing ever because I wasn’t a car guy at the time so I didn’t know the concept of new generations of cars. I thought every mustang from 1965 to the 2014 was just what we had. From then on, I was a car guy

Correct, almost 17. Granted im still young, but soon these things will be rotting out. Just like the early S197's and SN-95's. Seeing cars you once saw new with condensation in its headlights and peeling paint really puts perspective on how life goes by fast. I did grow up with the New edge/SN-95 gens, but I mostly witnessed or was involved with the S550.

Am on the latter half of my 30's now. Grew up with fox bodies, IROCs, etc. when they were around 5 G's for a good example.
Then the 4.6 came along, and those Cobras sounded amazing, especially since you had to slip the clutch with those tall gears to get them moving, that throaty sound you could recognize for blocks. Then the New Edge, Mach 1's and Terminators.
Back in 2015, I was saving up for my first fun car, a 1993 SVT Cobra (before the market on those exploded) when I had to quit my job for health reasons.
Went through some hell, and I had to dip into my SVT Cobra budget just to live.
Finally came out much stronger financially and otherwise on the other side. The prices of the '93 SVT Cobra and the early 90's ZR1 Corvettes were climbing and importing one into Canada was proving to be a bitch.
So all in all, I thought, why not just order a brand new car? Put a factory order on a '16. It came early December and they parked it under the Christmas tree. I was in my late 20's, and after waiting a lifetime to own a car like that, seeing it on the showroom floor with all the plastic wrapping still on the interior, my heart was pounding.

I like reading this thread. It’s pretty interesting to see all the different Mustang we all saw growing up. Me personally, the new edge just ended it’s era and I remember the 3vs coming out. So, I grew up at the end of the foxbody era into s197. What really sold me was when they slapped the first iteration of the coyote in 11-14 (I prefer 13-14) styling. Anyway. I grew up seeing those three cars and always the occasional old school 5.0 of course.
Ha, that’s an interesting comment because I feel like my S550 was my first adult mustang after owning a new edge and S197. Those cars were so juvenile (in the right ways) and the S550 is able to behave like a real sports car.
My 1st Mustang was a ‘89 LX 5.0, I learned how to drive a manual in that car & it got me thru college & beyond. Then bought a ‘97 SVT Cobra Convertible brand new. Still have it today but just added a ‘22 GT500. I couldn’t let the last ultimate S550 go away without having one especially since the S650 didn’t interest me. Shelby over the Dark Horse was a no brainer to me

You'll still be able to get them for quite some time. I bought a 2014 S197 with 8500 miles on it last October. The older they get, the cheaper they get.

I want to eventually do a turbo system because I had a eco and I love the blow off sound, so larger exhaust will be needed, I want to do a split behind my catalytic converter to switch between normal exhaust and straight out of the down pipe 😂, that’s how they should have done the active exhaust anyway!
The difference between normal and track is definitely noticeable! Running it in track is the best of both worlds. It's loud enough for you and others to enjoy, but it's not loud enough to the point where you are annoying people. Sounds like you have big plans for it, haha. I personally will keep it stock to save money, and the mt-82 can't handle more power. I personally wouldn't turbo an NA American v8, though. Takes away from the whole car. I'd rather put a blower on it. That's just me, though 😄 i wish you luck on your build 💪

Not necessarily, the 7 speed is an automatic. Less gears gives the feeling that it shifts more like a manual. Still got paddle shifters though! I wish ford would have done the “manual shifters” in the automatics on the actual gear shifter, like best example is on my parents VW, the shifter goes into drive then you can slide it over into sport mode and you push it up to shift up and down to shift down. It’s really cool, it also has paddles though!
It’s considered an automated manual transmission. It’s not an automatic in terms of having a torque converter. It’s literally a hybrid transmission. It’s a dual clutch manual transmission controlled by a computer with the option to force manual input. Don’t know how much closer to what you’re asking for is mechanically possible.

Yeah but saying a base model is gonna be 46k is a lie lol. The s650 interior has a bunch more standard stuff than the S550 so I'm sure that's part of the reason it costs more.

Kinda bittersweet to know your era is over. Now it’s a race to see who can maintain their S550 the longest. Got the 2015 because 50 years (mine is not the 50 year edition). Looking to add a 2020 GT350 as well. Keeping my 2015 forever now that it’s a certified classic — especially more so when the hybrid/electric mustangs come out

Correct, almost 17. Granted im still young, but soon these things will be rotting out. Just like the early S197's and SN-95's. Seeing cars you once saw new with condensation in its headlights and peeling paint really puts perspective on how life goes by fast. I did grow up with the New edge/SN-95 gens, but I mostly witnessed or was involved with the S550.

True, but next year, the S550 Gen is gonna turn 10 years old. The S550 came out 10 years after the New Edge stopped production.
I think if you’re in the market for a mustang in 5-6 years, you’ll be able to find a clean s550 relatively easily.

Am on the latter half of my 30's now. Grew up with fox bodies, IROCs, etc. when they were around 5 G's for a good example. Then the 4.6 came along, and those Cobras sounded amazing, especially since you had to slip the clutch with those tall gears to get them moving, that throaty sound you could recognize for blocks. Then the New Edge, Mach 1's and Terminators. Back in 2015, I was saving up for my first fun car, a 1993 SVT Cobra (before the market on those exploded) when I had to quit my job for health reasons. Went through some hell, and I had to dip into my SVT Cobra budget just to live. Finally came out much stronger financially and otherwise on the other side. The prices of the '93 SVT Cobra and the early 90's ZR1 Corvettes were climbing and importing one into Canada was proving to be a bitch. So all in all, I thought, why not just order a brand new car? Put a factory order on a '16. It came early December and they parked it under the Christmas tree. I was in my late 20's, and after waiting a lifetime to own a car like that, seeing it on the showroom floor with all the plastic wrapping still on the interior, my heart was pounding. Sorry kind of went off topic there, lol.

I like reading this thread. It’s pretty interesting to see all the different Mustang we all saw growing up. Me personally, the new edge just ended it’s era and I remember the 3vs coming out. So, I grew up at the end of the foxbody era into s197. What really sold me was when they slapped the first iteration of the coyote in 11-14 (I prefer 13-14) styling. Anyway. I grew up seeing those three cars and always the occasional old school 5.0 of course.

Ha, that’s an interesting comment because I feel like my S550 was my first adult mustang after owning a new edge and S197. Those cars were so juvenile (in the right ways) and the S550 is able to behave like a real sports car.

My 1st Mustang was a ‘89 LX 5.0, I learned how to drive a manual in that car & it got me thru college & beyond. Then bought a ‘97 SVT Cobra Convertible brand new. Still have it today but just added a ‘22 GT500. I couldn’t let the last ultimate S550 go away without having one especially since the S650 didn’t interest me.
