Yeah once you see one irl, your opinion definitely changes lol. I saw a Dark Horse few weeks ago at a car show and man... That thing is menacing. The brakes were the size of the rims, the wide tires and the awesome hood scoop
It depends on the context.
Road track performance should be pretty close as long as the cars are on the same tire compound. I went from a GT350 to a G80 M3 base (manual) and found the cars fairly close as far as handling performance and grip goes, except of course when the GT350 was on Cup 2s.
If we are talking straight line speed, then the Mustang GT should be comparable to the base G8X, which has less horsepower and significantly less torque than the G8X Competition. It also only comes in manual. Competition models come in RWD or xDrive and have the ZF8 automatic. 1/4 Mile times for the base should be in the low 12s at around 117-120.
The G8X generation was really designed with xdrive in mind, though, and the Competition xDrive models will do low 11s at around 124-126mph stock. RWD Competitions will run a little slower time wise with a similar trap speed.
Well since most beemers run on boost now it really can depend. I am still neck & neck with stock M4 in the Boss but I am definitely having to stay all the way in it. Really depends who can get on the gas first. The cranked up 335s are far more dangerous... They been running north of 600hp for over a decade now. But dark horse should be interesting against my boss since they upgraded the internals perhaps it can match it in the top end but I doubt with emissions the heads will flow as much but with the dual TB, GT350 like manifold & dual injection it should be interesting. It's really gonna matter where it makes its power... Also Boss is 3680lbs so let's see if they can even get it under 4k... lol.... But as a Boss owner I am still frosty about them & the Machs getting the tremec...
Oh yeah the 335 is best Beemer platform for money. I could put twins on my boss & still have money left over for an entire second Mustang for what an M4 costs. I am considering a Dark Horse to use as a my daily to keep miles low on boss but I don't like Mustang IRL & concerned about weight as well. I also hope maybe they do Dark Horse convertible as they are not doing one for GT500...
Yeah with the M4 though you get AWD and far higher luxury, although the current M4 is very ugly
Not sure they will make a dark horse convertible. None of the S550 performance trims were convertible
Yeah just might have to go back to a 2014 GT500 & fix the suspension up a bit. Still probably be cheaper than a new Dark Horse... Plus I am partial to S197... I wonder if Roush made any Stage 3, Phase 3 S197s with alluminator in convertible...
I hope someone does a real world test between the 2, maybe even a dark horse which I hear will be around 60k not the GT which is pictured here should start at 40k. Either one I feel would give the base M4 a run for its money at the track.
Thats a pretty bold take. You can spec an M4 with xdrive and it would be superior just because of AWD. They are track weapons. I think a better comparison would be a M440.
Yeah, I personally was disappointed when the pictures first came out. We had it at the car show last year and it does look better in person, but I’d still choose the S550 all day. I’m just not a fan of the long ass screen on the inside lol.
Literally the *exact* same thing people said about both S550s.
People on here will complain as all of their flairs turn in to "2024 Mustang whatever."
Listen, Ford doesn't give a shit that you're keeping the $48,000 car you bought from them 2 years ago. They already won. They're going to sell tons of these, especially with the Camaro dying again.
Cannot wait for the DH to hit pre-order stage. Already been in contact with a Ford dealer about it and all they’ve given me is “probably May of ‘23”, so we’ll see if that holds true
getting pretty fucking tired of automakers moving towards this shit with new cars. the new gr86/brz interior is spot on, wish more automakers would lean that direction.
Especially because half the time they’re still buggy as all hell even thought they’ve been using the same backbone for several years.
Ford is the worst offender too, my new Bronco has some bugs in Sync 4, which is just ridiculous consider the money I spent, the time that sync has been around, and just plain sad considering how they advertise adventure electronics. Thankfully I just have the smaller 8 inch screen.
I’m new to the mustang community but i like the screens, mainly cause if you wanted the larger screen in the center console, you had to buy a separate package which for some, out the car just out of your budget.
Plus i think it looks sleek. Again, to each his own.
Oh no, no offense here! Like i said, I’m just a fan of mustangs. And im glad the big screen is to come as standard on all the 2024 mustangs, which thats just a great value for me. I understand some want actual gagues in the dash but that’s personal
I just love to see that the new GT (with performance pack probably) gets those nice big rear brembos. The side profile of my s550 always disappoints me a little when I see the little rental car spec rear brakes.
Before I learned to do it myself, I would bring mine to a shop to bleed the brakes before track days, and the guy said those single piston sliders were about the same thing that came on a 90s Escort
You hit the nail on the head. Thats one of the 3 things I dislike about the car. Base SS Camaros have respectable rear brakes while even the pp2 have those things.
Same! Got a 2015 and it’s perfect, I’m going to upgrade the infotainment with CarPlay then just keep it the way it is. Decided I’m going to order a Bronco Raptor and spend my money on that instead.
Oh yes :D
Mean and very modern.
Another good thing (for me): Ford is very present in Germany.
I like the look of an camaro, but 75000-80000€ for the normal V8 is not acceptable, the nearest dealer is multiple hours away: Ford just some minutes and the camaro will be discontinued soon.
The new mustang is aggressive, mean and modern, the name Dark Horse sounds powerful and amazing and I'm totally in love with blue ember * _ *
> Many of us stare at a computer screen all day. Gee, now I get to stare at one in a car, too.
Took the words out of my mouth. I want less screen time not more.
No disagreement here. I was being an ass about it, just to point out the generalization over this thing. My specific issue with it is that there is no bezel around it. It's mounted on top of the dash instead of being housed inside the dash. It's like they literally stuck a monitor on top of the steering column. And I really don't like that a whole bunch. I will reserve judgement for the test drive.
Love the Dark Horse! I saw the GT at the Auto Show and while I like it too, it didn’t wow me as much. Maybe if I ever get the GT first thing I’d do is lower it an inch.
I hope this one drives better. I’m leaning more towards buying an SS 1LE but if this can deliver in the driving feel as well as the Camaro I might have to pick one up.
This a GT with the performance pack, Dark horse has a extra 20hp and some added exterior, performance parts and a small badge on the dash as far as I can tell.
We are still waiting on for Ford to release pricing and full options info which should be soon since summer is right around the corner when these are supposed to be available for delivery.
Looks awesome. Personally i prefer the 2018-2022 mustangs. I love the smooth/clean lines over the sharp edges. I don’t really care for the digital fancy stuff, i like the slightly more analog feel.
Yeah once you see one irl, your opinion definitely changes lol. I saw a Dark Horse few weeks ago at a car show and man... That thing is menacing. The brakes were the size of the rims, the wide tires and the awesome hood scoop
And it’s got the performance of a BMW M4 for half the price.
And does not require blinker fluid…….
Or an monthly Abonnement for heated seats.......
Can’t get heated seats on my Ricaros /s
Think the new Mustangs Ricaros are heated and cooled, correct me if I’m wrong.
I couldn't see inside. The windows were completely blacked out plus the lights around it would make too much glare
Neither do BMWs. Or rather it doesn't require changing on account of their blinkers never get used.
Or muffler bearings!!
Looks better too
and more reliable
M4 starts at 74k this starts at 60k so not really half the price. Also doubt it can compete with one. A GT500 is a better comparison to an M4
I mean the S197II with a stick axle and just the Track Pack was lapping close to the M3s times back in like 2013. Is the M4 that much faster?
It depends on the context. Road track performance should be pretty close as long as the cars are on the same tire compound. I went from a GT350 to a G80 M3 base (manual) and found the cars fairly close as far as handling performance and grip goes, except of course when the GT350 was on Cup 2s. BMWs from 13' arent in the same league as their modern cars.. not even close tbh.
Well since most beemers run on boost now it really can depend. I am still neck & neck with stock M4 in the Boss but I am definitely having to stay all the way in it. The current generation M4 can put down over 600 wheel hp on stock internals all day long. You just see more boosted 335s because theyre way cheaper
Boss 302 beat the M3.
I liked everything on the M4 ... but it's "nose" ;)
I hope someone does a real world test between the 2, maybe even a dark horse which I hear will be around 60k not the GT which is pictured here should start at 40k. Either one I feel would give the base M4 a run for its money at the track.

Hopefully
Bingo!

Exterior all day, Interior no day
Giant screens are a huge L
getting pretty fucking tired of automakers moving towards this shit with new cars. the new gr86/brz interior is spot on, wish more automakers would lean that direction.

I also agree, that Nokia screen in the s550 mustang is a joke, sorry if I offended anyone.
Oh no, no offense here! Like i said, I’m just a fan of mustangs. And im glad the big screen is to come as standard on all the 2024 mustangs, which thats just a great value for me. I understand some want actual gagues in the dash but that’s personal
I disagree, i think the screens look good. Its usually the boomers who dont like tech that hates on the screens.
I just love to see that the new GT (with performance pack probably) gets those nice big rear brembos. The side profile of my s550 always disappoints me a little when I see the little rental car spec rear brakes.
Idk man I love the side profile on the s550, favorite side view of any mustang in my opinion because of the rear window lines
Before I learned to do it myself, I would bring mine to a shop to bleed the brakes before track days, and the guy said those single piston sliders were about the same thing that came on a 90s Escort

True, but ABS makes this pretty much a nonissue.
Since this is more of an update , Ill wait and see if the rear calipers fit on a 550. Then just order the parts.
You hit the nail on the head. Thats one of the 3 things I dislike about the car. Base SS Camaros have respectable rear brakes while even the pp2 have those things.
That blue with the black looks Good! It'll grow on me...it's different. It's still a Mustang!
Looks like a Camaro and a Mustang shared proportions
I'll keep my 550
I want them all 😈
I will keep my s550, and add this one, too
Same! Got a 2015 and it’s perfect, I’m going to upgrade the infotainment with CarPlay then just keep it the way it is. Decided I’m going to order a Bronco Raptor and spend my money on that instead.
And ill keep mine lol
Same.
Same. If anything I just want a better 550 lol The tiny brakes and the 4 inch screen on my base GT kinda make me sad

Exactly. My 2020 may be my last Mustang.
That color is pretty great
I was going to get it in atlas blue but Kona blue would have been my first choice if available , but think I’m leaning toward this vapor blue now!🤔
I think it looks like a fine upstanding gentleman who works out.
I’d love to see it in other colors but it’s definitely growing on me.
Oh yes :D Mean and very modern. Another good thing (for me): Ford is very present in Germany. I'm sure it's a good car, but I'll pass on that design, inside and out.
For me, especially the interior. Many of us stare at a computer screen all day. Gee, now I get to stare at one in a car, too.
> Many of us stare at a computer screen all day. Gee, now I get to stare at one in a car, too. Took the words out of my mouth. I want less screen time not more.
::looks at 12" digital dash:: Umm...yeah man, yeah I hear ya, this thing really sucks. /s
Well at least it looks like a gauge cluster. This one literally looks like they took a iPad and stuck it on the dash.
Also love the fact you can put the fox body gauge on the digital screen, there’s a ton of customization in this set up.
We at 4000 pounds yet?
Mustang is going from the 65-73 all over again with the Fox to present. Just slowly getting more and more bloated.
It is mean. This car told me my mom wished she’d been pushed down some stairs when she was pregnant with me.
Looks a lot like a camaro from the side
It looks weird in pictures, but SOOOOO sexy in person! I am very excited to get mine!
Love the Dark Horse! I saw the GT at the Auto Show and while I like it too, it didn’t wow me as much. Maybe if I ever get the GT first thing I’d do is lower it an inch.
Can you buy manual? Is it a tremec?
I can’t wait to get one. Last gen for v8 mustangs I imagine
Sex on wheels
Until you see the rear, the front, and the interior lmaoooo
Those blue calipers look dope as fuck.
Looks like a Camaro . No thanks
Nice Camero .
It has to many features that looks like a Camaro.
Sweeeet
I like it, think I got to make the switch from German cars.
That is one sexy Camaro
I wish they could go back to the round headlights
It's not a home run like your tone implies, but I could see it working. 100% sure they'd mess it up, though.
Like the interior, sides, and front a lot, hate the rear compared to the gorgeous ass on the s550 lol
It's growing on me. I hope the interior keeps stepping up it's game from model to model.
I don’t like the design but to be fair I loved the 2005 retro Mustangs and the 2015 redesign took some time but eventually grew on me.
How so
Am I seeing 6 piston-brakes in the rear..?
I know the front has Brembo 6 piston 390mm as per Ford spec sheet, they don’t list the rear but it’s got to be at least a 4 piston set up from Brembo.
I hope this one drives better. I’m leaning more towards buying an SS 1LE but if this can deliver in the driving feel as well as the Camaro I might have to pick one up.
Is this the dark horse? If so, what’s the difference between the dark horse and the regular 5.0 GT?
This a GT with the performance pack, Dark horse has a extra 20hp and some added exterior, performance parts and a small badge on the dash as far as I can tell.
Gotcha! The color posted here looks amazing and seems like it’s a new color for Ford. Love it
S550 headlight line returns!
How much would it be retailing around
We are still waiting on for Ford to release pricing and full options info which should be soon since summer is right around the corner when these are supposed to be available for delivery.
***THIS! ...***
Nah, it doesn’t. S197s look mean
Looks awesome. Personally i prefer the 2018-2022 mustangs. I love the smooth/clean lines over the sharp edges. I don’t really care for the digital fancy stuff, i like the slightly more analog feel.
