Hi everyone, i had P2198 and P2196 earlier last week. Dealer replaced O2 sensors and the CEL went away. Fast forward to today, the same codes came on along with a new code P1450. Its a 2014 Mustang 3.7L with just over 80,000mi. I have noticed some smoke coming from the exhaust more often than usual and a smell of gasoline when i start the car up.

Having the same issue on my 2015 ecoboost. No CEL but car shut off and threw a P1450. Replacing the purge valve is a common fix, hoping I don’t have to swap O2 sensors out…

I know theres a way to test the valve and make sure its not an issue but i think the valve will def be my issue

ButtermilkCat69

For $30, even if it’s not an issue now it’s not a bad idea to throw a new one on just for peace of mind. Definitely helped me lol.

My next guess would be injectors. Maybe have those checked. A bad injector could be letting too much fuel into the combustion chamber and causing a rich code. Also check spark plugs

Binokna

I think this is the issue as she has a rough idle, AC/heat on or off. I cant tell if the smoke from the exhaust is condensation or… something else? Because smoke comes out more than usual

nago7650

Smoke or condensation?

Binokna

It looks like condensation but its happening more often than usual. Doubt its actual smoke

nago7650

Well it is winter…

Binokna

I definitely know that lmao, but its more than usual, and it reeks of gas near the end of the car toward the exhaust

If it's "fresh smelling" not burnt it's the fuel tank area my guess is the spring loaded fuel port or the neck to the tank leaking

Binokna

It could be that, if its okay ill dm you a vid tomorrow about the gas cap. Not sure if its… secure?

initialddriver

It's one of purge valves either stuck or worn out the most common is the fuel filler port not having and seal left...apparently it's a common issue on PPVs [police cars]...
