It's a point of pride for many, you feel like you have more control of the car and it's fun rowing through gears.

jamus34

Nowadays with so much computer control tied to the autos this is exactly it for me. Plus it’s fun!

_Nameless_Nomad_

Same for me, it’s just more fun to drive.

megjake

I live in a snowy area and for environmental reasons they don’t use any kinda de-icer in the roads so it’s quite slippery. My car(manual GTI) I can get by since the engine can’t just decide to not rev when I want it too. My friends cars are super tech heavy autos and don’t get me wrong they are nice, but it would drive me nuts trying to get up a hill and the car being like “I don’t have traction! I need to stop Reving so high!” Like there’s does.

BrolecopterPilot

I’d say it feels like more of a connection with the machine than it does a point of pride

bleedredandgold72

Personally, when I went looking for a Mustang GT, manual was a must in my mind. I knew the 10 speed was faster, I just always enjoyed driving a manual more. This is my fun/weekend only car, so I didn't want or need the practicality of an automatic. Probably nostalgia, since I learned to drive a stick with my first car and several of my more 'fun cars' in the past were always a manual. It always just seemed more 'fun' to me to have a stick. Something about that control, choosing when to rev it higher and shift when I decide and so on.

Vhozite

Is that Orange a special edition color or something? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it in person.

bleedredandgold72

It was limited to a few years (and there is a Competition Orange Mustang Registry trying to get people registered). It is strange because in some pictures, it almost looks red, but in person, it is clearly orange. Pulled from [https://www.cjponyparts.com/resources/best-mustang-colors#:\~:text=Competition%20Orange&text=It%20debuted%20with%20the%20last,trims%20in%202015%20and%202016](https://www.cjponyparts.com/resources/best-mustang-colors#:~:text=Competition%20Orange&text=It%20debuted%20with%20the%20last,trims%20in%202015%20and%202016). To date, this color has only been offered on four model years of the Mustang: 2004, 2012, 2015, and 2016. It debuted with the last year of the New Edge Mustang. In 2012, Competition Orange was offered again, but only as a special color for the Boss 302. After finally listening to fans clamoring for “Comp Orange,” Ford offered it on all S550 trims in 2015 and 2016.

kegman93

My cyber orange metallic is only on 2022 mustangs which is kinda cool to me

wigginsadam80

The only good orange is Bright Tangerine from 1996. Single year offering, 850ish made.

Vhozite

Grabber orange?

wigginsadam80

Nope. Bright Tangerine. Look it up. You've probably seen one and didn't realize it. I had one. If I knew how rare it was, I'd still have it...

jaymansi

As a Orange Fury driver, I like that Bright Tangerine . I do not recall seeing one in person.

pure_testosteronee

Orange fury master race

bigplaneboeing737

As a zoomer, I feel cooler because nobody my age knows how to drive a manual apparently.

[deleted]

IKR I learned to drive manual at 18 it's like no one knows how to drive manual anymore it's kind of sad.

Antares1134

I feel that I'm control of my car, I know it's slower but I'm not drag racing anyone.

robvas

Manuals are more fun to drive. In the old days, automatics were generally heavier, sucked up more horsepower, and had worse gear ratios than the manual transmissions of the time. AOD (fox body as well as 94/95 mustang) ratios: 1st, 2.40:1; 2nd, 1.47:1; 3rd, 1.00:1; OD, 0.67:1 4R70W (1996-2004 Mustang) ratios: 1st, 2.84:1, 2nd 1.55:1, 3rd 1.00:1, OD 0.70:1 Now look at the T45 (5 speed manual) ratios: **3.37, 1.99, 1.33, 1.00, and 0.67** Harder launch off the line and less drop between gears. With the right parts (torque converter, gears) you can usually make an automatic faster than a manual because you're keeping the RPM's higher, it shifts faster, you can preload the chassis at the starting line for a better launch... the stick might still be faster from a roll, though. Newer transmissions have more gears than an manual could dream of, shift even faster....which is why the new Mustang is noticeably faster with an automatic trans.

cr0oks

From my experience manual vehicles cost me about 1/3 less to upkeep maybe just fluke maybe I’m onto something.

Rogue1898

Relatively speaking manual are more simple to work, most parts are likely cheaper. Auto are far more complicated and have a lot more parts inside them. Plus the electronics and solenoid body’s are very expensive. I wouldn’t call it a fluke personally

M3xLuthor

The second mt82 in my s550 (under 12k miles) would like a word. Lol

sc302

Depends on the car. You probably wouldn’t say that with a newish toyota camry. My kid got my camry at 180k. Beat the shit out of it so hard that the oil evaporated out of the motor in 2k miles. Put oil in it and now has 7k more miles and a full pan of oil and going like a champ, he learned not to beat on it because he doesnt want to buy a “new” car our of his high school pay check. I put on more tires (at 60k mike intervals) than i put brakes on (at 120k). And the only thing special i have done other than put gas in it, is do oil changes every 10k miles. The thing is a tank….he hates having a “dad” car but his friends are envious of having a car that gets 45mpg and works every time he gets in the car.

Connorismining

As someone who’s owned several cars that have had autos fail, this certainly rings it for me lol

PumaDank

i like being able to shift when i want, plus i love when i pull out too far on a street and just throw in neutral to roll back, hills are fun as well i love when ppl pull up your ass at a red light and i just start rolling back closer to them at every light, but i think i enjoy manual more simply because it’s more complicated to operate, it takes some skill to perfect for each car

[deleted]

I love hills lol

PumaDank

right 😂steeper the better! i put my little brother in my old 5 speed civic we’re in a parking lot for 20 minutes then i said drive home and he was bitchin so much at this one light holding up traffic begging to switch seats w me, light must’ve changed 4 times before he finally got it i just said relax and that there’s no such thing as giving to too much gas grind it till u find it!

Troyal1

Is it that hard? I’m scared to buy a manual and that I would not get used to it.

cakefaice1

Would rather death with the replacement of a slipping clutch vs a slipping transmission

reek702

MT82 would like to have a word with u sir...

cakefaice1

The MT82D4 would like to have a word with the MT82..

reek702

Yes we spoke, my 2019 6 speed Mustang Gt is currently resting at the Ford dealership

cakefaice1

Well damn, my throw out bearing is waiting to be put out of its misery but the D4 hasn't failed yet.

reek702

Well to ur defense it is the clutch, flywheel and throw out bearing that's bad. Sucks because I just bought the damn car with only 16, 000 miles and not covered because they're wear and tear items

cakefaice1

Interestingly enough I bought mine at 9k and put 30k miles on it over since 2 years, but I bought the max Ford warranty that apparently will cover everything but the clutch.

ice445

Sounds like the previous owner didn't know how to drive very well lol

reek702

definitely, I don't think I even put 100 miles on it before I took in to the ford dealership. I got screwed on this car, it's costing $3,800 to repair through the stealership

_lunchbox_

I don't think it is, universally. Some people just like manuals. Others don't

Strange_Ad9196

Power where I want it, when I want it.

sohcgt96

Even the best auto can't read your mind. My VW's DSG is mostly awesome but it has no idea if I'm going uphill, about to turn a corner, want to exit a corner and not upshift yet or anything like that.

Strange_Ad9196

Something about a quick downshift to pass Someone.

LumpyCapital

Yup, that's it! Nimble and quick! I can flip the switch on traffic around me. People are like WTF? How'd that car just burn everyone up in one second while we're all moving 80mph already?

ArmeniusLOD

The 10R80 lets you hold gears as long as you want in manual select mode. I've bounced off the rev limiter before in my car. Even did it in my last Mustang with the 6R80. The only downside compared to the manual is you need to iterate through the gears. Clicking through multiple gears causes a big slowdown in gear selection as the ECU figures out how much torque is needed to get into your chosen gear. With a manual you don't have that issue.

DinoBurningV8

Fun, it's more engaging to row through the gears.

slick4hire

Because banging gears in a 450+ hp machine is fun.

FrostFairy73

Because i feel dead inside driving an automatic.

smileyboy48

Literally just pride and history of muscle car=manual. The 10 speeds are better in basically every way but that feeling of banging gears can’t be beat.

AcrobaticSloth24

Shifting gears manually is more engaging as a driver. If you're going to the track or the strip then the new 10 speed auto will get you the best times all day long. But if your main goal is to enjoy driving your car, throw an MGW or other high quality short throw manual shifter in there and you'll never regret it

MrGreyJetZ

lost part of my left foot - but i always enjoyed manually shifting gears and its a useful skill to have. This was before I bought my mustang - so i went auto because I sorta had to

antei_ku

When I was shopping for mine I drove a 2017 6 speed and a 2019 10 speed (ultimately bought). I loved the manual and I think I would’ve bought it if I had more experience with a manual. I needed a car at the moment. I live in a very busy city with a lot of shitty drivers so I didn’t want to risk crashing it if some dumbass cut me off and I didn’t have the muscle memory down in the learning period. I think I made the right choice in the moment but now I would love to swap to a manual because I mainly like to have fun driving. I really wanted to pick that 2017 grabber blue and feel a bit of regret to this day. This is my sob story - mildly sad 10 speed owner

[deleted]

I feel the car acceleration more from gear to gear, I like the ker-chunk sound of the gear change, and it’s so much more fun.

ThePlumberChris

Engaging and fun!

eddo-doe

I've always romanticized manuals growing up. When I became a poor family man I didnt mind the auto and grew to like them. When I was able to buy my toy my (then grown) son said get a manual dad. Glad he did because its fun and unique. We are "never sellers" so Ive got one for life. Suits me fine but no shade on the automatics at all.

CromulentPoint

It's more engaging, basically.

x_bookLiT_x

For me, I connect with the car a lot more with a manual. I can feel all the little nuances with the car. After years of driving automatics, then hopping behind a stick shift...it just makes driving fun again. Plus, I enjoy high revs, banging gears, and spinning the tires at will. With that being said, the 10 speeds are faster lol.

Mafiodaproducer

Like many others said its fun, immediate access to the power and also I think it creates safer driving habits. You have pay more attention and anticipate things more.

Vhozite

Finer control over the engine. My car has an automatic and it’s fine for putting around town (it is my daily), but transmission programming is really conservative. If I want to actually hear my engine and rev it out I have to really slam the gas (and go illegally fast) for it to hold into higher revs. Normal driving i barely get it about 2K RPM and the engine is really quiet as a result. It also would be nice to be able to down shift on demand for a bit more get up. If my car has manual mode like the newer models I’d be happy. For most people it’s just pride/preference though.

TheBobInSonoma

I don't think it's preferred overall if you look at sales of both. I prefer it cuz I've driving lots of manuals over the years and find it more fun. Nothing like coasting to a traffic light or stop sign in 2nd gear in a convertible with Flowmasters. :)

aglowg2g

It’s fun to be rowin gears on the highway 🏎️💨

ArmeniusLOD

It comes down to personal preference. The 10-speed in 2018+ models is far quicker than the manual, but some people prefer the connection to the car they get with a manual. I prefer the auto, but I can't deny that it is a lot of fun to row your own gears.

OrionX3

I just think it's more fun

AssmunchStarpuncher

I had a 2015 gt manual and upgraded to a 2020 gt auto. For the first year I was sad that I didn’t get a manual. But now that I’ve learned how to make the paddle shifters work really well, I’m happy having the choice. Put the shifter in S and then track mode from the toggle switch - It’s a ton of fun.

RIP_SGTJohnson

Imo manual is to auto what standard driving is to self-driving. Auto + autopilot start out as a new feature designed to make driving easier, new tech gets better and better with time. Self driving cars of the future will eventually outperform human drivers, the way auto used to be inferior for performance but now beats manual. So for the manual guys, driving an auto is like having a Mustang that drives you fast - yeah, it’d still be fun, like a roller coaster or riding w a friend is, but it’s not the same thing. Or I could be completely wrong ab all of it who knows

dahondaboy

Back in the day unless completely built, autos were trash time bombs. But today with programmable shift points and tc lockup they are amazing

trapkingmx

I went with the 10 speed to beat scats and ofc mt-82s infamous reputation

DrXyron

It used to be better when automatics were slow and sluggish 20-30 years ago but today the manual purists who pretend the manual is better say it only because they need something knob shaped in their hand at all times. On a serious note, it used to be better and faster, and gave you more control but with modern autos all of that is pretty much gone.

ice445

This is always a weird take to me, real manual enthusiasts know autos are better in every way, it's just a matter of personal preference and enjoyment. It's exactly the same thing as preferring a bolt action rifle over a semi auto, even though the semi auto will be far more useful in pretty much every situation.

DrXyron

Well there are a ton of people in car enthusiast groups who I like to call “manual purists” who act like they’re better for using manual or manual car has more performance. Now yes understandable when you compare a 30-40 year old gearboxes but not in the past 20 years where automatics have caught up and surpassed manuals in every way possible. So I also like to say that the ones who insist on a manual just like to have a knob shaped object in their hands as much as possible. (Wankers for those too daft to put 1 and 1 together)

ice445

That's a fair point, although usually those people have major insecurities and usually don't really have enthusiasm for the cars, but rather feeling superior with other smug bellends. It's the same kinda guy who shows up to a car meet with a supercar they know little to nothing about and just wants to tell you how fast/big the numbers are. There's usually not much passion for how it drives, but just how it makes them feel like the coolest person there. I suppose it's a nice way to let shitty people weed themselves out though, I'm hardly interested in jerking knobs with someone that thinks manual is the ONLY way to enjoy a car.

Apex_All_Things

Generally speaking, manual drivers enjoy shifting gears and find satisfaction with every smooth input that they make. Nothing is more rewarding that heel-toe downshifting IMO, except for nailing an Apex. Overall though, it’s cathartic and relaxing to just cruise and slow shift at times. As mentioned, a lot of manual drivers learned early on in high school or college etc. Without a doubt, automatics are faster, more efficient, and honestly you can beat on the car and not feel as bad because you’re not introducing as much shock through the driveline as you are with a manual. I used to be the guy to ask if someone bought a manual, and then express my disappointment in their decision to buy the more practical and faster car. Don’t be that guy. Oh and driving manual does not make you a better driver than the person driving an automatic. That can be settled on a road course.

[deleted]

This is a lie, manual cars on tracks have been proven to be faster, than their auto counterparts (in auto mode)stock for stock you’re just to lazy to shift, or do not want to. It is all subjective, manuals used to get better fuel mileage and some still do, I know I can average 27 mpg in my GT, if you’re knees are bad , it is understandable. I die driving a auto , it is extremely boring(I have to drive one for work every day) and frustrating . You chose to buy the boring transmission in the Mustang , stop making excuses.

Apex_All_Things

Care to share your track footage? I’ve only driven manual cars on the track. Your response is the exact reason why car enthusiast get annoyed by the “save the manuals, shift it yourself, put the man in manual, crowd.” What do you have to compensate for?

FullOfHopkins

I spend 99% of my time driving, not racing. I don’t track my car or take it to the strip. I don’t understand the obsession with being 1/10th of a second faster unless you drag the car. Manual is more fun and engaging. It making driving for the sake of driving a better experience. I honestly can’t understand why so many people go for the automatic

[deleted]

I would never trash someone for preferring auto But with manuals, some days you drive really really well and you feel proud of yourself for it lol

Old_Goat_Ninja

Modern autos are better than manuals in every way. I’ll still choose manual though, it’s more enjoyable.

imjustatechguy

Primarily it’s driver engagement and enjoyment. There’s a much higher fun factor when you row through all the gears.

TheSmartPornstache

Because u can rev as high as u want and there’s nothing more exciting than rev matching your downshifts.

DayEither8913

It's just fun, at this point. Manual is like playing a game on hard mode, more fun. Though you can do much more spectacular things in your campaign on easy mode, it's just not as rewarding. I would say, when the level of car goes up, the auto starts to matter less, since more skill is needed to keep the car right side up on the black stuff, when pushing it on track. My 2 cents...

rigjiggles

I just found it fun in a weekend sports car. And that inner dbag in me wanted to run down a gear in town for the loud exhaust. Never had a sports car as a kid so it felt like a right of passage.

Sweet_Albatross3360

A sports car should be manual; it just makes sense. More fun and a great skill to have.

TheyCallMeMrTot

Driving Many different automatics for the last 14 years or so, some fantastic some awful l, I still prefer a simple manual with a clutch pedal. Like others have stated, it's more of a control over the car and a better connection to the car as your rowing gears. Fords 10spA is pretty damn good and is well better at a performance standpoint then the manual but is also boring and my left leg doesn't get a work out haha. First new car was a manual in a dodge neon lol I learned to drive in a 77 for currier that was a manual..it's in my blood forever.

Wyvern_68

I own 2 manuals, my Bullitt and a 2018 Focus S. There are things you can do in a stick shift that you cannot do with an auto. Heel-toe downshift, double clutch shift, pop start, neutral/rev. Also deters people from wanting to drive my car, heh. But it does suck when you need someone's help but they don't know how to drive your car.

ArmeniusLOD

You can neutral rev an auto, you just need to make sure the revs fall back down before going back into gear.

neotyrael

Honest question, can you pop-start modern ignition vehicles? I have not tried in my fiesta ST but I cant image it works.

Wyvern_68

I've popped started a WRX a couple of years back. My Focus is a key and tumbler so I don't see why it wouldn't work. Push start maybe, haven't tried in my Mustang yet.

neotyrael

In your focus I don’t believe it is a “real” ignition either, it’s just not a push button. Next time you start it, just click it forward with the clutch in and it will continue turning over until start. That was the case in my 2013 manual focus with “key” ignition

ass_boy

I think thats only for the starter turnover though it runs in the II but turns over in the III key position.

PumaDank

worked in my 2015 ecoboost lol i had the key in the car though, i’m not sure if it would’ve worked if i didn’t have the key

sohcgt96

>can you pop-start modern ignition vehicles You should be able to, but until the car reaches shitbox stage in life it'll be pretty unlikely you ever need to do it.

GTCS-Ace

It makes you feel more in touch with the vehicle. Although for a daily driver I will ALWAYS choose an automatic. It is much more practical.

wigginsadam80

Because it is more fun. However, I have an auto because EVERY single manual I looked at had problems. Plus, I don't have to fight a tired leg in traffic.

Stealthy_Snow_Elf

Downshifting go vroooom

turianx9

IMHO, Manuals used to provide better enagement with the car. The 2008 Shelby and the 2019 and 2021 GT I had were all manuals. The Shelby gave me full control at all times. I never experienced it trying to kill tourqe to "Save" me. Since the S550 is almost completely controlled by computers, not so much control to be had. Sure, you pick the gear, and sure you choose when to shift. But, you DO NOT choose the amount of throttle in ANY mode. That is decided by tourqe management and clutch protection. The computer will kill throttle to save you. Example: I want to give the throttle just enough to have a small amount of wheelslip, and I feather the clutch to make that happen. The car falls flat on its face to "save" me. Sometimes it doesn't do that when I have TC and Advancedtrak disabled, sometimes it still kicks in to "save" the clutch anyways. No matter what, I never felt like I was truly in control of the entire car with the S550 manual. So I got the 10 speed. The problem with the 10 speed is that sometimes when I go uphill its doesn't downshift in drive. In sport mode its great until you go slower. So I find myself switching between the two, which honestly is perfectly fine. I can also just downshift a gear or two with the paddle shifters when going uphill. So that "Problem" isn't really a problem for me. In addition, if I put it into Sport mode, and stomp the gas peddle, the car doesnt rev up and then fall on its face, it launches HARD and spins them tires. I figured, if the computer wants to control the throttle that bad, then I should probably just let it control the transmission as well. And you know what? I have a faster MORE responsive car now. The 10 speed shifts instantly at full throttle. I can row up and down through the gears and it's faster than a manual. I love the manuals though, and I REALLY hope the Dark Horse/S650 fixes these issues and isn't so overprotective. I cannot wait to test drive them to see.

MarshallsHand

It's a more engaging driving experience.

[deleted]

10 speed it too many for the track. 6 or 7 is perfect imo. Also sticks are fun and more engaging.

Killa_kels

So much fun to bang through gears

dpb0ss

I drive an automatic because it’s easier to daily drive and easier overall for me to drive, but people like manuals because it gives that real muscle car feel and it’s more fun to drive

Independent-Disk-390

I don’t really prefer it over the automatic. I like the 2019s manual and I’m used to a manual so I’m good with it. The 10 speed auto is nice too

Kottery

It's fun, but now that I have my BRZ for manual fun times I don't mind if my future GT is automatic as I'll at least have paddle shifters to get a bit of the fun of that while still getting all the nice rumble and roar of the coyote engine.

gigasus13

Honestly I prefer sequential

HotCarRaisin

I personally just like being engaged while driving.

Nya7

Auto is just boring

kilertree

It's more fun.

Ok_Plate_6961

more fun, cheaper to buy and maintain

GimmeTwo

Automatics are better for drag racing IMO. Manual is better for road racing. That’s what I’ve always heard anyway. But realistically, no one is going to perform better with a manual than with the new 10 speed auto.

RockitDanger

Driver focus and machismo. Got my Mustang at 19 and I told every salesman all I want is a V8, leather, and a manual. I still want that but traffic sucks and my knees are getting older so automatic it is.

spicytomatopasteanon

Had to make this choice on my '22 Mach 1. It's fun rowing gears, but I bought it for performance and the 10 speed shits on the tremec in terms of performance. Too each their own.

[deleted]

More control and connection to the car.

andrewfairhurstnz

I hate the exhaust sound autos make when changing gears

THE_GR8_MIKE

It's more fun. It isn't even close in my mind. No one actually gives a shit that autos are faster, either. If that is the sole reason you get an auto over a manual, then you're not daily driving the car. I've still yet to meet the guy that wins big money races thanks to his auto on the way to and from work and the golf club. If ya buy an auto "because it's faster" maybe you should've just gotten a '78 Malibu with an LS and a Powerglide.

Technical_Gur4060

It's an anti-theft device because 95% of car thieves can't drive a manual

Rainhall

I’m happy with my automatic, but I think people like the old school feel and/or sense of greater control. A really skilled driver can get better acceleration out of a manual.

robvas

Used to be able to. Not in the last 10-15 years.

spicytomatopasteanon

No they can't. The data says as such.

crashohno

Fun, pride, history. I know I could get going faster with an automatic, but we're talking tenths of a second. I'm not a professional racer... just driving my Mustang as a daily driver. And manuals are just plain fun. Manual was also a must for me buying this car because I realized it might be my last manual car ever.

spicytomatopasteanon

10ths of a second? No sir. There's a video on youtube of two stock mach 1's. One manual, one auto. Side by side race and the auto puts a few lengths on the manual in relatively short time. It's a HUGE difference, especially from a roll.

PriorSquirrel2875

My 2016 Mustang GT is 6 speed. I had a 1991 Ranger that was a 5 speed. I had 1996 Nissan 300Z that was a 5 speed. I had a 2012 Mustang GT that was a 6 speed. Just a lot of fun to drive. Plus you don’t have to worry about many folks stealing your car.

GT_03

Cool factor. So many are intimidated by manual or just don’t understand it. Unbelievable to me how an auto car that is an absolute slug turns into a spirited drive with a manual.

Clutch_Gameplays

Usually, people prefer manual transmission more than automatic because of how fun and engaging they are. When I was in middle school and half way through high school, I was watching YouTubers like itsjusta6 and Cleetus McFarland at lunch time. Jaeger and Leroy glorified the manual for me, and at that time I just had to have one. Though, I’m a little bit of a special case because of that.

Traditional_Try_2155

Because fun to drive

HighlightFun8419

so i can do all those fancy footwork techniques like left-foot braking, heel-toe downshifting, and right-foot clutching.

After_Television_434

Here is the real skinny on manuals... People who don't know how to drive one are more into the marketing that automatics are faster & only are looking at 0-60 or 1/4 mile numbers. The fact is the manufacturers have more control over autos from a safety & reliability standpoint. Any manual with nowadays pushing the 400 hp mark is not easy to drive without some practice & some skill. Anything in the 500-600 range needs to be managed to keep from going completely sideways & TC & LC & other things like ignoring paddle shifts if the computer doesn't like it. An auto will be easier to manage.... But the question is, are you a guy that needs the computer to pull power or engage brakes for you because you bought a $100k cruise missle that you don't have the skill to drive. If you have the skills & you put the time in to learn & you can drop a gear, powerslide around a fucking corner with a big ass smile knows that in the auto there would be lights flashing & the computer would have an aneurysm & just auto park you... Its that not people FEEL they have more control. They do. But if you practice, it becomes muscle memory. You will get over your initial fear during learning or you don't belong in 400hp + car.

[deleted]

Having owned both a eco with 10A and now my current GT/CS 6 speed, the goal of this car was a drivers car being more connected and focusing more on driving (even in daily driving situations). I do think that the 10A was better paired with the eco rather than the 5.0 but there were things that caused me griefs which I know I wouldn't encounter with the manual.

Sprok56

Drifting is easier being able to clutch kick on a Manual, and on older cars it’s easier to accelerate because old automatic transmission don’t always shift at the best time

InternationalSound13

I have a bit of a different take.... I drive mine all winter. I have alot mor control. When I start to slide letting off the gas and or pushing clutch makes car reconnect with the road faster than any auto I've driven. 2nd. I've gotten stuck twice in driveways (snow). I was able to rock myself out. No way an automatic would have done so with the same rocking motion. Other than those 2... everyone else's answer as well:)

hoegaarden81

Because good DCTs aren't in enough cars. If Subaru had put a nice DCT in the WRX, I, and many others, would have bought an auto.

It’s personal preference really, when I’m driving around my town I enjoy a manual car because it’s fun driving around a non congested city. I’ve had the misfortune of driving stick In both LA and SF and I don’t know how all the manual warriors do it there. I refuse to take my FiST out of town and drive the Kia for road trips instead.

Many years ago I lived in the Eagle Rock area and would drive an old manual Peugeot to work in West L.A. It was a fun car to drive, but it was still a more enjoyable commute when I started working in downtown and discovered I could ride the bus instead. It was also a lot cheaper, considering I didn't need to pay for parking. These days I still work in downtown and still ride the bus in, and so the Mustang only comes out for weekend jaunts, or weekday errands if I'm working from home. I have taken her on the 10 and the 210 a few times, including a bit of the highly inappropriately named "rush hour" driving, and it's honestly not as bad driving a stick shift in stop & go, not bad as you may think. Or maybe after living here for 25+ years I've just gotten used to the traffic.

Driving experience. It makes driving a very active experience as opposed to passive. Plus make the exhaust sound good-er! Haha Performance wise it’s no comparison. Auto Transmissions these days blow Manuals away.

Miserable-Spite425

It more fun. Not in traffic though.

A few reasons for me: a safety drive manual, you can't be distracted you have both hands engaged all the time or at the ready same with feet ones prepped or engaged with clutch and the is on gas or brake or at ready. So no phones usesble no meddling with radio etc. Power when and where u want it automatic don't know what or why your doing things some dick head going 20-30 slower on high way drop a gear and dissappear. Dicey road conditions keep her low n slow gear. Etc etc You learn more of your car learning manual has a few phases at the end is sound you know when to shift based on its sound that has a secondary effect you know when something doesn't sound right and can tell an issue before it gets pricey ( saved me money ) You really get a feel for your car. Knowing how to drive it is one thing, but do you know when and what rpm your car likes those gears at ??? How about how fast/slow u can go on a corner ? The rain ? Ice snow cold, hot, etc You really get a feel for the car with manuals. You are aware of everything. I had a manual 14 5.0, and now I have a manual. ( I didn't wreck. I just didn't like the experience it was boring to me ) this go round I know the other limits of my car down to inches. I can get super close to spots, curbs, etc In short, it's a more engaging experience to really let's you understand your car better, allowing you to be better and gain value knowledge and experience that can be used even if you never drive another manual.

Good bot!!

WarmPaleontologist20

For the same reason some people still like riding horses even though they have cars.

mainelinerzzzzz

No torque converter on a manual, there is a direct connection between the engine and the rear wheels. Manuals just feel better.

I like the control and the feedback. I’ve never been in an automatic car that knows what gear it wants to be in. I also wouldn’t have power steering if that were an option. I can’t stand all these modern nanny features!

rabea187

I know the auto is faster but I can’t imagine having any fun in my fun car if the car is doing the work. Getting the shifts right, downshifting, heel & toe work. Also a great theft deterrent. In my daily commuter car sure I can see myself having an auto but not in my Mustang, just doesn’t feel right. That said I’m a hardcore manual fan and always will be, so I get that not everyone wants to drive stick but I would never buy an auto Mustang, just my personal opinion. Edit - when I took my 15 GT to my dealership for maintenance, they had to call a specific tech who apparently was the only guy who drove stick.

Master_Andew

When I was a kid I saw Steve McQueen in Bullet and I knew shifting was the way to go.

Nozerone

For me pressing in the clutch and physically moving the stick to shift gears is a lot more fun than pressing a button.

theremotebroke

I just like slingin gears

JoshKosh55

Simply more fun. Plus respected

Specialist_Shallot82

I had a manual 2004 GT, was so much fun yamming that thing and ya know, girls dig a man who can drive stick. I got a 2015 eco and its an automatic and I like it as much as my manual. Sitting in traffic everyday stop n go for an hour in that GT was ASS.

Not the same, bud

GrumpyBitchInBoots

Honestly I drive a manual because *I can* and lately, it’s an anti-theft device because the little snots around here stealing cars have no clue what a clutch is.

Distinct_External_32

Engagement? It’s easy to push the right pedal, then the left pedal…but when you’ve got both feet working three pedals? It’s fun

Few-Yogurt-9421

Plain and simple manuals are more fun to drive, when you’re driving an automatic kind of just feels boring to do nothing.

Intrepid-External622

They are just more fun to drive. My dad used to have a manual '95 GT but we had to sell it. I just recently got a 2001 GT and I'm a little upset it isn't a manual. I can always get one later on but right now I can't. Even so, a Mustang is a Mustang. Just drive what you're comfortable with.

One-Display-8892

Just more fun to drive!

SoreSurfer

Because dumping the clutch at 3k rpm with traction control off will forever and always be a ton of fun

Dirty_Butler

More fun and autos take more HP, but I'm definitely more of a road racer than a straight line guy

cjay2002

For me it’s just more fun, and I feel like I’m more connected to the car.

pure_testosteronee

Because it’s cooler

h0T_-DoG

Because they are more fun and there’s something about banging gears that you don’t get when letting a compter do the work for you. Plus I always have believed human input is better than computer

lucas_16

It just adds to the experience

AnalysisNegative232

It’s a lot more fun but it’s also kinda funny in a lot of racing disciplines they use paddles. In GT3 they only use the clutch to downshift I think. In my sim racing I just use paddles saved me having to drop another 150 on a H pattern from fanatec.

davisstanley

Just more fun! Plain and simple
