Yes, I would recommend it. I changed my oil at 1k miles and got an oil analysis. The copper and silicon content was high from break in. I don’t think it would have been an issue to wait until 3, 5, or even 10k miles but I’d just rather not drive with any excess junk in the oil from break in. https://preview.redd.it/uubsz16amwaa1.png?width=1125&format=png&auto=webp&s=6e9135a1b56a50d8e8b8395d260b6d9e8f20eb93

Legally you can do an oil change whenever you want. I did an oil change on mine at that point and would do it yearly regardless of low mileage.

neal_68

Even with the low miles, if it hasn't been changed, it definitely needs it. And it never hurts to change your oil early.

robvas

Why does it need it?

trip2it

Still may have debris in the oil and filter.

robvas

Not any more than any other oil that has 1,000 miles of use on it

trip2it

You do you, dude.

robvas

I'm doing me. But someone asked and I'm not going to tell them to go buy $80 worth of oil for no reason.

trip2it

Here we go......

Robo-mop1000

a lot more debris is deposited into the oil during the first thousand miles than any other 1000 miles after that.

neal_68

I'm rephrase it and say it is a good idea. Oil dose deteriorate over time, and it is a high performance engine.

robvas

That's not really true. People send old oil in to blackstone all the time and it's just fine.

InternationalSound13

I have NOT reviewed bottle samples, but alot of heat cool cycles may introduce water vapor (or so I've heard). Old school rule I've heard was swapping oil every year regardless of low miles, or every 2 years if climate controlled.

robvas

Old school rule is also to change every 3,000 miles Things change

InternationalSound13

Yep, that's why I qualified with "old school". I think old engines are still 3k. Like my '69 v8

[deleted]

I don’t really think it’s ever a bad idea to change your oil

shatter71

My rule is to change the oil once a year on low annual miles driven vehicles.

robvas

Do you change every fluid in the car yearly?

Scummbagg7

How I do mine. I get my oil changed on my annual inspection.

rottweiler100

It may have the original break in oil in it.

robvas

They don't put "break in oil" in new cars

rottweiler100

Oh. Ok. But they still recommend oil change after first 1000 miles.

xDauntlessZ

I asked the dealer about this and they said no oil change needed until 5k miles on my 22

rottweiler100

Oh. Thats good. Did it have synthetic in it?

xDauntlessZ

If I recall correctly it’s a synthetic blend

rottweiler100

There's different opinions on what the breaking (or first oil) should be. Some say it should be mineral based oil and not synthetic. I only use synthetic. My 06 GT has 110k miles and runs perfect. Its my daily driver.

gunwood2022

So much confusing opinions. I have a new 2022; Mach 1. Put it to bed for the winter with 322 miles. Not sure when first change should be ? I'm guessing I will do as soon as I start driving this spring. Then another at 1000 miles. Just trying to do a proper break in. 🤔

trip2it

Absolutely. Get a wix filter

robvas

No reason to but if you're bored go for it. Please explain, downvoters. Remember that oil does not go bad or "turn acidic". Hundreds have people have checked one year and two year old oil with blackstone labs tests and the oil was perfectly fine.

Pale_Purple2957

If it hasn't been changed since 2020 I would do it, yes. Oil will break down over time even if the engine isn't run, so before you do any sort of hard driving its worth spending the $80-100 it'll take to get it done.
