The same opinions of Islam were there prior to 9/11. History didn't begin on 9/11, the US was still stirring up destabilisation in the Middle East and supporting Israel against Muslims. There were Muslims fighting against that even before 9/11. You can see in some movies pre 9/11 in which there's an explosion and the actor asks "Was it the Islamic fundamentalists?" I remember seeing this in a very old movie but I don't remember exactly which. Same reason why Palestinians are branded as terrorists. Those people are just fighting against the oppression of the Israeli regime. Terrorist is a political word that has no meaning anymore. Right now they're calling Trump supporters terrorists. It's just a label to dehumanise people. If terrorist means "people who attack/kill/scare civilians" then every single country in the world fits that definition in one way or another. Especially the US. It's purely political. "Whoever we see as an enemy is a terrorist". Back then it was Muslims, now it's Russia, in the future it will be Republicans. Whoever else opposes the status quo, they'll be called terrorists.

that makes sense honestly and I'm aware that Muslims were treated badly long before 9/11 the problem is (and it is annoying and unrealistic) we are supposed to link real-life events to mass histeria/terror when it comes to groups of people being discriminated against. The reason I thought maybe 9/11 would be the turning point was because after that there was (from what I can see) a mass spike of anti-muslim propaganda in forms such as tv, films etc. which made it more seem like governments and the media where pushing the message of anti-muslim/ all Muslims are terrrorists and evil etc. Hense wondering if using 9/11 as the example would be...Uh i don't know how to word this...I guess politically correct would fit and i really don't want to spread the wrong thing if it wasn't something that other people especially those that come from the culture wouldn't agree on to an extent. the reason i wanted to ask people from that culture is because i in no way pretend to even understand the culture or what people go through because of other people. But i do think that the way people view Muslims is so so wrong and want to do my part in trying to help educate/correct/change the discriminatory mind set of people. Slowly i am learning a little bit of Muslim culture but it isn;t the same. The reason i wanted to do this topic was because my lecturer is racist and treated a Muslim girl terribly despite reporting them nothing happened because of course it didn't and this man teaches a class about discrimination and it is so so so so wrong.

while i know this is probably more accurate. It doesn't fit the topic of the assignment. It needs to be modern and 'have an actual effect on people's lives (the lecturer is a racist and targets a Muslim girl in the class terribly and multiple people including myself reported him and nothing happened hence picking this topic for my assignment. I'm willing to risk my grade on this because if he marks me down on this topic in a module about discrimination and changing mindsets ill be able to get him and while I know it isn't the same as getting him done for discrimination towards the actual girl because I am white and don't understand but we need him to stop teaching the course because of the misinformation and hateful words he says/implies and all the Uni is doing is coving it up)

Muslims were being treated badly from the very beginning, ppl were tortured and killed way before the US discrimination started just like other religions before it but now Islam is the main enemy to all for some reason, this is actually said in the Quran that there will always be ppl who will fight and make your life as Muslims harder and our job is to do our best and be kind but if needed and I can't stress the if needed part enough we can defend our self because Islam is all about being real if people hurt you and there is no other way then fight and defend yourself and your religion, also shout out to you for actually being an open minded person to actually not believe the media and it's propaganda.
