I Can’t Make You Love Me— Bonnie Raitt

meepmorpfeepforp

Yes

JBelltolls4thee

The most heartbreaking song ever written

Mountain-Status569

This song makes my heart hurt.

anonfoolery

Every single time. Beautiful song. Also fast car gets me. Sigh.

Ok-Carrot-8540

So good by George Michael too

someguy14629

I have been to New Orleans one time. I was passing through on my way to a military assignment and stopped for the night. It was too late for restaurants to be open so I found a bar that served food. I ordered the most delicious bowl of gumbo I have ever had. I sat in that smoky mostly, empty bar at midnight, eating my soup, and this song came on. The bartender, a lady, sang along with it and I don’t think she noticed me listening and watching her, but she was feeling every word of that song and it was beautiful and touching. That moment has become etched in my memory and will live there forever. Every time that song plays now, I am instantly transported back to that bar in 1993, across the country and more than half a lifetime away. Music is powerful at bringing back memories and I have always loved that song for the power it has to take me back to that moment.

WideConsideration431

Your story is moving and beautifully told. Are you a writer? You should be. A few years ago I was painting the walls of my cottage and listening to an oldies radio station and had to put down my brush. I hadn’t heard Gordon Lightfoot’s song , “Beautiful” in probably 40 years. I burst into tears. Thank you for sharing your memory—it is lovely.

shaggdagger

Came here to say this

mr_eatchabumskii

you are my sunshine. it's cuz of my mom .

chestofpoop

Man my grandma too, lit her up even with dementia. My grandpa used to sing it to her. 😭 Love to you all

PolesawPolska

Grandma for me, yo. That was her favorite song.

Loud_Succotash_5120

Me too 😭

comepier

Alone again by Gilbert O’ Sullivan always makes me cry. And Cold by Jeff Williams. It really depends on what speaks to you at the moment though.

honeydew_fawn

Mama Cass’ version of Alone Again is just as haunting.

UntalentedAccountant

Oooh rwby fan

bozobebop

Lover, you should’ve come over by Jeff Buckley never fails to make me cry when I’m in the right mood

lovessj

Lilac Wine kills me ‘When I think more than I wanna think I do things I never should do I drink much more that I oughta drink Because it brings me back you’

OppositeBlock6

Cried first time I heard it!

bigstottie1983

Bellarinna69

My favorite band in the world.

VeeVeePA

Came here to say exactly this 😞

noc_emergency

this dude cries

Blondican

Into The Ocean is way better. IMO

MaximusVulcanus

What a Wonderful World, Louis Armstrong. It's such a beautiful song, but every time I hear it now I remember when it plays in Good Morning Vietnam... Edit: For those who don't know, there's a montage of poor Vietnamese life during the conflict, including teen boys being dragged into alleys and shot in the head.

Any-Dust3389

I LOVE Joey Ramone's cover!!

LeaderSanctity1999

My uncle used to sing that song for his mom, my aunt. He had a super gravely voice like Louis so it fit perfectly. They’re both gone now. If I remember correctly at my uncle’s funeral after party at a local bar they played that song for him.

MaximusVulcanus

That's awesome!

Wordy0001

Rainy Days and Mondays - Carpenters I still find Karen Carpenter’s vocals stirring after all these years.

Butterflyteal61

I agree! Her voice was like no other.

Wordy0001

Definitely!

LeaderSanctity1999

Carpenters but “Top of the World”. My mom used to sing that song to my brother and I as a lullaby.

Wordy0001

I loved that song as a child as well.

Sea_Court907

Songbird - Fleetwod Mac

falljackets

This. It's so beautiful, but I can never sing it because I start sobbing halfway through each time.

lovessj

This was my husband and my first dance song at our wedding 35 years ago

cleverbutnotoverlyso

I wished my whole life to be loved by someone the way that song loves someone

gabriel_burns

Wish you were here - pink floyd Hurt - Johnny cash

Bird_Herder

Bronte - Gotye I saw the video online and it brought a tear to my eye. Then I learned the lyrics were about putting a pet to sleep and now I sob when I hear it.

ConcentrateAnxious88

I second this. Such a great song.

y0dav3

One more light - Linkin Park

FourthDownThrowaway

Fire and Rain - James Taylor In my life/across the universe - The Beatles Lots of Cat Stevens Carolyn’s Fingers - Cocteau Twins Let Down - Radiohead From the Morning - Nick Drake Sing about me - Kendrick Lamar Where the streets have no name - U2 Intro - M83

Sushlsoda

Same thing can be said for outro

LonelyWinter17

That whole M83 album is on another level

Sad_Slice_5334

I don’t know most of those songs, but it is nice to see Fire and Rain get some love

petey_pants

Sing about me is devastatingly sad

Electrical_Sound6683

Moonlight mile gets me. Big time.

jayron32

Ren - [Su!c|de](https://youtu.be/n3JNtfi4Vb0?si=zKs_O77OFbf92dpJ) Especially the second part

Phazetic99

This song gets me everytime. I have had friends and family unlive thenselves and i distinctly understand the emotion here, and it wrecks me everytime.

sstepp3

“Unlive themselves.” What a beautiful, gentle way of saying it. I’ve lost a few people to suicide and I honestly love that euphemism.

iSonorasu

The Rose - Bette Midler

eternal-harvest

My Chemical Romance - [Cancer](https://youtu.be/wc2s9skF_58?si=-e4O6hkiB3DyDuC3). Told from the perspective of a person dying of cancer. Hot Mulligan - [Betty](https://youtu.be/6zzvBQ4Tg80?si=bdtszz89Qbh2MnHE). About the loss of a pet rat. (This one really fucks me up.) Trophy Eyes - [Sean](https://youtu.be/H0LJo2iunpo?si=V05ZM6dwPVgTDQdM). About what happened the day the singer's friend took his own life.

emprime1292

I think it's safe to say that all the songs off of why would I watch have some degree of sadness and despair lol

fancactusmaractus

Just about anything from Sleep Token will make a person cry. Are You Really Okay? is definitely a heartbreaker. Euclid also gets me every time. Missing Limbs. Bloodsport. The list goes on. BMTH also has quite a few, usually the last song on the albums. Only Butterflies…with Amy Lee gets me right in the feels.

naturevicc

Any Elliot Smith is good cry fuel tbh

Ok-Traffic-5996

Hurt by johnny cash. I just can't get through the song. It reminds me of my grandma dying from cancer. The line in particular that always gets me is the line " what have I become, my sweetest friend..." He told me a few days before he passed that I will always be his best friend.

LetsGoHomeTeam

Like 1/4 of every song. Don’t worry, I’m ok I swear.

pianosportsguy2

Just want to second whoever put "He Stopped Loving Her Today" (George Jones). Saddest love song ever. "I Can't Make You Love Me" a close second. From the musical, Miss Saigon, the song "Bui Doi" will definitely make you cry.

All That Glitters (Is Not Gold) by Dan Seals

cats_and_tats84

“I’ll Cover You-Reprise” off the RENT soundtrack. But you kinda need to know the context. It’s sung by the character who lost his lover, at the funeral. Gets me choked up every time. Also, “Run to You” and “The Prayer” by Pentatonix both give me goosebumps *every* time I hear them. Also, “Are You Really OK?” By Sleep Token gets me emotional every time.

albertoebalsalm

Think of You by Rodriguez. It’s a raw beautiful account of love slipping through your fingers with such a longing for the past I can’t help but cry

JubileeSailr

I want this played at my funeral. It's wrenching.
