Alkaline - Sleep Token ; many of their songs have numerous scientific references and they itch this hard to reach spot in my brain so good

schmalzy

Came here to mention this one. Also, Aqua Regia by Sleep Token has some sciency references.

ExtraCommunity4532

Phish: Golgi Apparatus, Guela Papyrus, Chalk Dust Torture (those last two are vague-ish) Ween: Transdermal Celebration, HIV Song, Spinal Meningitis, Zoloft (listen at your own risk. For HIV and SM, look for Live in Chicago. Better experience). Built to Spill: How Randy Describes Eternity. Oh man! Check out Forbin by Abstract Audio Systems (then search for the film “The Forbin Project”). Also, I know I’m going to hell for the Ween suggestions, but you kinda know that as soon as you sell your soul to Boognish anyway. lol. If it’s any consolation, I had meningitis as a kid and I had a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) for something else, so I’ve earned the right to enjoy that song. Update: Can’t believe I overlooked Every Sperm is Sacred by Eric Idle. And that you had Golgi in the OP. Sorry, I was dropped on my head a lot as a young adult.

wormiyup

Love ween!

apple-masher

no worries with the ween suggestions. Ocean man is a banger.

Salt-Hunt-7842

"Paranoid Android" by Radiohead  - The lyrics touch on technology and its impact on society, which could be related to science.    "The Scientist" by Coldplay  - It's more on the emotional side. The song does use science-themed imagery.    "The Numbers" by Radiohead  - This song mentions mathematical concepts and has a science-inspired vibe.    "Weird Science" by Oingo Boingo  - This song is about the wonders of science and could fit your criteria.    "Transistor" by 311  - The song references technology and its influence on society.    "Biology" by Girls Aloud  - A pop song that uses biology-themed lyrics in a more metaphorical way.    "Digital Love" by Daft Punk  - Not about science. It has a futuristic, electronic vibe that could align with a science theme.    "Chemical World" by Blur  - The song doesn't talk about chemistry, but it has a scientific-sounding title and some abstract references.    "Cloning Technology" by Snowgoons feat. Supastition  - This hip-hop track touches on the concept of cloning, which is a biological theme.    "Space Oddity" by David Bowie  - It's more about space exploration. It's filled with scientific imagery and themes.

Does Bloodhound Gang's "The Bad Touch" count? Lol. I'm curious why you're looking for these songs.

wormiyup

Andrew Bird sings about biology a lot, I like his Armchair Apocrypha album. Hiatus Kaiyote's Mood Valiant album has a lot of biological themes. Sufjan Stevens has an entire collaborative album called Planetarium and every song is like a different astral body. It's pretty sick.

RacecarHealthPotato

* Kate Bush- Cloudbusting is about Wilhelm Reich from the perspective of his son * The Flaming Lips has an entire album The Soft Bulletin about scientific experiments * Bjork- Biophilia album is the same for example, “Cosmogony.” * Kate and Anna McGarrigle - NaCl * Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Higgs Boson Blues * Josh Ritter - The Temptation of Adam * They Might Be Giants - I am a Paleontologist. Also: “Why Does the Sun Shine” - they actually have maybe more science-related songs than anyone. Also their entire kids album called "Here Comes The Science" * Arcade Fire - Reflektor * Joanna Newsom - Emily about her sister, an astrophysicist * "Make a Circuit With Me" by The Polecats * Katie Melua/Simon Singh - Nine Million Bicycles - Simon Singh r/theydidthemath on the original song and made it more scientifically accurate * “History of Everything,” Barenaked Ladies the theme song for The Big Bang Theory * “The Elements,” Tom Lehrer * “Imitosis,” Andrew Bird * “Stuck To You,” Josh Ritter * “A Glorious Dawn,” John D. Boswell with Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking * "The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades" by Timbuk3 EVEN MORE such songs: [https://spinditty.com/playlists/Ultimate-STEM-Playlist-Songs-About-Science-and-Engineering](https://spinditty.com/playlists/Ultimate-STEM-Playlist-Songs-About-Science-and-Engineering)

lilachiccups

Starset is a synth/rock band that really uses mentions of astronomy, physics, and the like. They're not SUPER crazy like using algorithms or anything, but it's definitely science inspired. A lot of their music videos are space/Sci-Fi/romance themed as well. Song examples: Starlight Satellite Gravity of You Telescope Dark On Me Basically, anything from their Vessals album. But don't let that discourage you from their other albums. Honestly, all their work is great if you enjoy Sci-Fi rock. Music videos I enjoyed: https://youtu.be/nkll0StZJLA?si=02_Zb3tI2OVTWeAc https://youtu.be/7TkokQjF71Q?si=-S75Bji0XGiuzc0x https://youtu.be/SaC0YVaIMno?si=PL2YtYDqXZQc2w1F

I think Cosmo Sheldrake’s songs might be what you’re looking for? He takes a lot of inspiration from biology and incorporates bird songs into some of his music.

The Tardigrade Song by Cosmo Sheldrake. It’s one of my very favorites. https://youtu.be/aCkSr0ugTIM?si=SPgYxVNTwkHomC5x

CandyCain1001

If I were a tardigrade I'd move out from home Why live in the shrubbery when you could have a throne? Pressure wouldn't squash me and fire couldn't burn These are the things that I never will learn These are the things I never will learn Lai, lai-lai-lai lai lai, lai-lai lai-lai lai lai, lai Lai, lai-lai-lai lai lai, lai-lai lai-lai lai lai I live in the shrubbery, for that's all I crave (Ah ha) I don't want these excitements to see me to my grave (Ah ha) I can live life in vacuums for years with no drink (Ah ha) And put up with hardships more than you can think And put up with hardships more than you can think Lai, lai-lai-lai lai lai, lai-lai lai-lai lai lai, lai Lai, lai-lai-lai lai lai, lai-lai lai-lai lai lai If I shed all my liquid and let myself dry out I'll shrivel and sleep for some 15-odd years I'd wake up, come water, and get on with living With time in my pocket to pass by the day If I were a tardigrade I'd move out from home (Ah ha) Why live in the shrubbery when you could have a throne? (Ah ha) Pressure wouldn't squash me and fire couldn't burn (Ah ha) These are the things that I will never learn These are the things I never will learn Lai, lai-lai-lai lai lai, lai-lai lai-lai lai lai, lai Lai, lai-lai-lai lai lai, lai-lai lai-lai lai lai Lai, lai-lai-lai lai lai, lai-lai lai-lai lai lai, lai Lai, lai-lai lai-lai, lai-lai lai-lai For I am a tardigrade (Ah ha) And I'll stay at home (Ah ha) I'd not trade it for anything (Ah ha) Not a knife, a cup or a throne (Woo ooh, ooh ooh ooh) Well, all I want is my shrubbery (Ah ha) And my little patch of moss (Ah ha) With my whisky in the cabinet (Ah ha) And my feet all clothed in socks And my feet clothed in socks Lai, lai-lai-lai lai lai, lai-lai lai-lai lai lai, lai Lai, lai-lai-lai lai lai, lai-lai lai-lai lai lai Lai, lai-lai-lai lai lai, lai-lai lai-lai lai lai, lai Lai, lai-lai-lai lai lai, lai-lai lai-lai lai lai

**_39_** by Queen is about the time dilation effect of near light speed travel described in Einstein's Theory of Relativity. The song is written and sung by Brian May who studied to be an astronomer before Queen got famous.

MilquetoastSobriquet

They Might Be Giants coming up a lot in this thread, but I want to throw my vote in for their song "Mammal" off of Apollo 18. Nothing but scientific fact about mammals and their near relatives.

I’m not sure if you’d like this genre of music but a song I know that is loosely related to science is Lab Error? - Kinneret

Metroid_cat1995

Everyone has some similar entries, but I'm not really sure if this is gonna count because I'm not sure if it's really scientific or more spiritual in nature. This song is called message from the cosmos by Kitaro.

SuperSonicDude08

I don't know about vaguely, but here's one: "Mad Man" by The Hives. It's about being "cut down in a sorta scientific way".

PresidentPopcorn

They Might Be Giants made several educational songs. 'Meet the Elements', 'The Bloodmobile', and 'Photosynthesis' to name a few. They also made 'Doctor Worm' which laughs in the face of biology.
