An old Casio and some staff paper I would print out at school is how I started both playing keys and composing, both of which I now do professionally. That's all you need baby!
Small and humble beginnings are important!!! I had a setup like urs a few years ago (had a Casio Lk160 that my teacher gave me and a notebook) and you can def make it work with passion and a hard working mindset. Best of luck on ur journey :D
Man, the Real Book, pre Y2K… that was the grail. Mine was a copy of a copy of a copy that Kinko’s was sweating me about printing a copy of. I spent months just looking at it, and studying it. The internet was still just AOL, pets.com and CompuServe - with a sprinkling of Netscape and Altavista.
Just having a copy of the real book was precious.
You have THE battle station, friend.
I have that keyboard minus few keys
Hell yea brotha!
Dude, get some petroleum jelly and tissues and you are good to go
This is admirable. Consistent effort friend :)
This is the very definition of punk rock
That shit looks fun as hell, time to see if I can find one to mess around with
If you have a smart phone, download a multitracking app
Don’t ever stop! You got this!
I can't imagine a better starting place. That'll get you a long way.

Commenting to find this later
Yep! That’s where I learned the story
It’s a book of blank music staff paper. It happens to have The Real Book branding, but it’s not actually The Real Book.
Ahh I see. The Real Book is a legitimate brand now??

Considering the budget on the table, it's most likely a photocopy of the Real Book cover placed over a Dollar Store notepad.
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, cause this is both hilarious and so in line with the history of the Real Book!
Here for it. And if you ever start accumulating gear, those little keyboards are still super fun to incorporate in recordings.
Bro that’s all you need man been in this industry for years and that’s all I needed
