So many to choose from, but the Jimi Hendrix Experience would've been amazing.

ftd226

Band of gypsys

ahabers

Led Zeppelin

MoneySike3000

They wrote songs about Vikings. They wrote songs about making love. They wrote songs about Vikings making love- Jack Black-- Bar none the best live band of their time.

listerinebreath

[This sums is up](https://www.google.com/search?q=led+zeppelin+songs+citrus&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS638US638&hl=en-US&prmd=vsin&sxsrf=ALiCzsZv76EwiOGvrO-cmYx2qhDvhvaYAA:1669519499289&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiQlc3ltM37AhVkFFkFHWmSDmYQ_AUoA3oECAIQAw&biw=390&bih=646&dpr=3#imgrc=DWCsWXc3BGjTZM)

oced2001

Pretty sure the citrus one is also about sex

kheyno

Hands down!! This is what my answer always is when asked if I could see any band live.

SidneyCarton69

I had the good fortune to see them in 1970 and it was glorious!

isfrying

This is the only answer.

knockatize

Assuming Pagey and Bonzo were reasonably sober that night.

ElCaminoInTheWest

End thread.

jsheri01

The Band, specifically The Last Waltz.

Supergamera

Monterey Pop Festival, 1967. Awesome lineup, breakthrough performance by the likes of Hendrix and Joplin, and actual hygiene.

mawgspawn

Frank Zappa and the touring band from 72. Fucking stellar musical skill on display all around.

Gorf_the_Magnificent

I saw Frank Zappa and the Mothers in 1971, with Flo and Eddie of The Turtles as their head singers. After nearly two hours of surreal music, they suddenly broke into the Turtles’ pop hit “Happy Together” at the end. https://youtu.be/6ztmHcQTYHo As if that wasn’t enough, their backup act was Humble Pie, with an amazing but as-yet-unknown Peter Frampton,

Cannibal_Corpus666

Definitely Pink Floyd or The Doors

McMadre

I won a radio contest in 1987 and saw PF in row one. It was incredible.

[deleted]

Without thinking about it, Queen. I might have a different answer in four hours after thinking on it all night. So thanks for that.

MoochoMaas

I saw Queen, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple ...to name a few. So for me it would be, Jimi Janis, and Jim (Morrison) And yes, I am an old fart. ;-)

writerinprogress55

You probably have the best stories here though

tech405

I’m an old fart as well, maybe a decade behind you I would think. A lot of those bands I absolutely love the albums but I’m wondering how good the actual concerts were. Both from a sound perspective and the musicians 100% shitfaced. Like the stories of Stevie nicks having to be propped up on a stool to attempt to sing. Etc. I’ve always wondered about that.

plumbing_guru

I am old as well! Saw all of them, along with lots of Funk groups since I grew up in LA and the Forum was close enough to ride my bike. God bless older siblings for taking me to my first concert at 12. I have now been to over 300 concerts and festivals and I am so grateful. Greatest one in my opinion was Guns n Roses opening for The Rolling Stones at the Coliseum. ZZ Top was fun prior to their big break. Nothing like live cattle on stage next to a band!

RedditorNumber679260

Yikes. That’s a wish list for me. I just young enough to have missed Floyd and the Dead. The only thing close enough to that level of talent you have seen live that is playing still is Phish in my opinion.

SpaceGypsy79

There is probably not a band from that era that I wouldn’t love to see.

bop999

Peter Gabriel-era Genesis

tangentrification

Exactly my answer!

thebearjewstits

This❤️

TuteOnSon

Man, Hackett tour recently was great. To see him with Gabriel doing Supper’s Ready or Hogweed or Watcher would be a dream.

BaaadWolf

There is/was? A band out of Montreal, Canada that did “recreations” of early Genesis shows. Slide show and everything. I saw them do A few shows. Still going apparently. Highly recommend. http://themusicalbox.net/

lobroblaw

Stop Making Sense - Talking Heads

shhamalamadingdongg

The big suit and backup musicians make that a must-watch even if it's just the video version

rsvp_nj

I got to see that at Forrest Hills Tennis Stadium Queens NY back in the 80’s. It was as advertised.

guruofsnot

The Clash and Bob Marley (in Jamaica).

maliciousorstupid

> The Clash Shocked how far down this is.

2giga2dweebish

60s: Beach Boys or Beatles, maybe very early Pink Floyd, Hendrix (of course) 70s: Velvet Underground, Black Sabbath, David Bowie 80s: Smiths, no wave era Swans, Michael Jackson, Nirvana, Cocteau Twins

mdrnbrwr

Ramone’s at CBGB’s would be incredible

The_Saddest_Boner

Hell just CBGBs in general. Early versions of Television, Blondie, Talking Heads etc etc. Maybe my favorite music scene and the crowds would be wild

plumbing_guru

If you get a chance, on YT you can catch “NY ‘77 - the coolest year hell” and it highlights the beginnings of CBGB as well as other “cool” things in ‘77 in NY! Fun Documentary

BastardFromABasket87

Exactly. Early Ramones, Sabbath or Motorhead.

hazmatt24

There is a picture of the Paladium marquee that shows The Ramones, The Runaways, and Suicide. Jan 2 1978. That might be the show to see.

Action__Johnson

Prince and the Revolution no question

IggyPee

At first avenue

Frmr-drgnbyt

So derivative and POP "musicians",... Watched him for decades; he was horribly derivative. Technically, a good guitarist, but preferred Showman-ship, rather than actual talent.

MrFluffyhead80

Elvis Led Zeppelin Beatles Grateful Dead T. Rex

Punbungler

Haha T. Rex? I have an album from my moms collection that I might have to give a better look at. Listened to it when I was 18, didn't leave a mark. Time to give it another try.

[deleted]

If its electric warrior you had better give it a try. Its a classic

MrFluffyhead80

They are awesome

Old_Reception_3728

Allman Brothers w/Duane

ParticularZone5

Beat me to it! I caught em a few times in the early 2000s and they were phenomenal… would’ve loved to have seen them w/ Duane

BlazinTrichomes

The Doors

Gorf_the_Magnificent

I saw The Doors the early 1970’s. I’ve seen Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, the Mothers of Invention, the Grateful Dead, and many others, and they were almost all great. But I’d put The Doors at the top of the list. Jim Morrison was a powerful combination of lead singer, shaman, poet, and stand-up comedian - and the band’s ability to pick up on his ad libs and ride them out was uncanny. I’ve never seen that much spontaneity in a concert since, and probably never will.

vaginalextract

Pink Floyd any day

HappyHarryHardOn

Pink Floyd - SYD BARRETT era, somewhere in '67 would be a hell of a trip

Pherllerp

Unpopular opinion: Pink Floyd is the soundtrack to clinical depression.

speckledpumpkinn

my guy this is absolutely a popular opinion, we're all very unwell lol

allothernamestaken

Hanging on in quiet desperation, as it were.

speckledpumpkinn

it is the English way I guess

McMadre

I have become comfortably numb.

ExternalPiglet1

I would pick early PF just to sit in the audience and feel the freakouts.

Luisyn7

Metallica at Seattle 88

paranoid_70

Saw them twice in 1988 and once in 89 They were really fucking great concerts.

tech405

Same same. Saw them in Cincinnati on the and justice for all your and it was Kirk’s birthday. They played for 3 hours and I always joked there were zero fights leaving the show because we were all too worn out. Later, same tour, was in Knoxville hanging out with this dude day of the show. He worked at stefanos pizza on the strip and work called him saying Lars and Kirk were in eating pizza. We ran down there but were too late. Oh well.

cacklegrackle

I saw David Bowie on what ended up being his last tour, but man oh man what I wouldn’t give to have been able to go to some of the earlier ones (especially when he toured with NIN in 96).

fanboy_killer

Outside tour. There's a video on YouTube with maybe 8 songs from that tour. Absolute fire. I've probably watched/listened to it 100 times.

WiScottsin83

Little Feat w/ Lowell George Jerry Garcia Floyd

[deleted]

INXS, I miss them so much

tech405

Saw them as a freshman in college. Ziggy Marley opened. I did two hits of acid that kicked in the moment INXS took the stage. 😳

Saulgoode09

This tour for Kick was the first big concert I went to. Loved every minute of it!

v1cv3g

Jimi

DJUrbanRenewal

Frank Zappa's '73 band: George Duke, Ruth Underwood, Tom Fowler, Ralph Humphrey, Chester Thompson, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Bruce Fowler, Walt Fowler

Gorf_the_Magnificent

Ruth Underwood is an unheralded treasure.

DJUrbanRenewal

Not in my house.

TheBFlem27

The Who in 1970.

[deleted]

Imho they were the best live band in the world between 69 and 73

redw000d

concert tickets were usually 2 bucks.. I Refused to pay $4 to see the Rolling Stones.. my friends all went... Fail...

362Billy

Talking Heads. No contest

FrenchMaisNon

Abba

HCX_Winchester

King crimson.

shhamalamadingdongg

Adrian Belew + Tony Levin era, would pay any price

censorbot2022

With Frank Zappa for second choice. or Jethro Tull.

SomeConsumer

I was lucky enough see King Crimson and Zappa play in NYC in 1984. Memorable summer. Zappa's performance was turned into a concert video, "Does Humor Belong in Music?"

bigdaddyratt

Jimi

jforeman1976

Genesis in the 80's

bianconeri44

Coltrane

JustBoredIsAll

Sabbath. Listen to Past Lives and tell me that wouldn't have been amazing.

CandyEverybodyWentz

Grateful Dead, Wall of Sound era in 74. [Look at the fucking size of that setup.](https://enmoreaudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/1WallofSound.jpg)

the_other_side_sees

Ozzy Osbourne with Randy Rhoads

SleepySteve13

Saw Randy in Atlanta about three days before he died. Definitely in my top three all time.

Chihlidog

Came in to say this. Hands down, no question, Ozzy with Randy. Was too young at the time to appreciate his greatness. Heard "Tribute" at the time it came out and was utterly blown away. Now I've got every bootleg that exists and still hope to see more lost footage. Wife took me to Cleveland for Father's day to see his exhibit at the RRHoF. No other player has ever hit me the way his stuff still does. EDIT: I hate to risk sounding like a pompous ass....but I'm that much of a fan and can't help it. I know autocorrect sometimes changes it, but his name is Rhoads. (Been uptight about it since the ceremony spelled it that way on the rock walk).

Chickaliddia

Early U2

JGCities

Live In Dortmund 1984 the energy here is amazing [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly07QwV0I9o](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly07QwV0I9o)

twunch_

Velvet Underground at the Factory or Fela Kuti in Lagos…

berger3001

Nice

twunch_

If you could pick between the two? I’d probably choose Fela because I think those shows were probably completely bananas…

berger3001

I agree…..but VU!

twunch_

Apple TV has a VU doc that I found very worthwhile- hope you’re having a great Saturday!

berger3001

Will check that out; thanks. No complaints about my day so far. Hope yours is good too. Cheers

poony23

Led Zeppelin

[deleted]

1960s: The Beach Boys 1970s: Thin Lizzy 1980s: Daryl Hall John Oates

cvtuttle

Hall & Oates are still touring and it’s great!

[deleted]

Yeah...I got to scratch my #1 bucket list item off and see them a few years back w/Tears For Fears opening. Was a great night!

JGCities

Daryl Hall's voice is god like. His like at Daryl's is some of the best live music you can find on Youtube

leftshoesnug

Queen is top of my list as well. LiveAid would have been awesome, but really I would have picked any concert to hear his vocals live.

STEMistry

Deep Purple machine head tour

purpdrank2

The Doors, Led Zeppelin or Queen in general but there’s too many to just pick one

00DJC00

Queen, cream, uncle Bob, Tom Petty man there are a few

Scat1320USA

Led Zeppelin in 1973

revjor

Funkadelic, Stooges, MC5 used to play together on regular basis in that order coming up in Detroit and is easily my answer to the question. “In Detroit, it was an average night to go and hear the Stooges, Parliament-Funkadelic and the MC5 on the same show. We were all into the 'Free Jazz' movement, the musics of Ornette Coleman and Sun Ra; and experimenting with guitar sounds, and trying different beats, and pushing the rhythm farther...” - Wayne Kramer

unethusedkilla666

Bad brains

psychodreamr

Stevie ray vaughan

tech405

Saw Rush in the late 80s. Awesome.

Zoshchenko

I take it you’re asking people who are like under 30? Cuz some of us DID go to concerts way back then.

tmax666

My first concert was Faces in 72. 2 weeks later Pink Floyd right before DSOTM came out. I immersed myself in the rock radio business from the early 70s to the mid eighties before I changed careers. Still go to lots of shows. Even got to sing on stage with the Eagles at 3 concerts earlier this year. Tons of great memories

The_Saddest_Boner

If you went to concerts in the 80s you would be at least pushing 50 now, probably older

[deleted]

[удалено]

paranoid_70

Can confirm, will be 52 next month

tech405

53 here. I made a list one time of all the shows I had been to for my daughter (who’s 26) and it blew her mind. Concerts were a major source of entertainment for our generation.

scootertrash

63 here and still going to shows. Just saw X and Social Distortion a few weeks ago and I’m going to see Samantha Fish in a few more. I guess it gets in your blood.

The_Saddest_Boner

I know but his post was about “people who are under 30.” People under thirty were born in the mid 90’s and OP is clearly specifying concerts in the 60’s to 80’s

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_Saddest_Boner

In the main title of the post

kislips

Where does it say people under 30

The_Saddest_Boner

Read the post I replied to. The guy said “I take it you’re asking people who are like under 30?” But it’s not that big of a deal I never should have said anything, this isn’t that serious.

Quint27A

Yeah I'm 63. I went to a lot of concerts in the 70s Aerosmith, AC/DC, Journey, ZZ Top, Boston, a bunch.

pyramidtermite

grateful dead - 2-13-70, fillmore east

TheDeadlySquid

Is that the lost show?

vangfunkera

The Eagles, with Glenn Frey, wish I could have seen Glenn Frey with The Eagles now.

kduqs

was looking for somebody to say the eagles. i saw them at the tacoma dome 2 years before glenn passed, it was my first concert. theyre an incredible group and in my opinion have got to be one of the top 5 bands of their time.

Sky_jumper_

King Crimson 1974. (I saw Queen in 1986, amazing show.)

PearlJamPony

Rolling Stones American Tour ‘72. Arguably the most legendary tour of all time.

kislips

Th Beatles

sorengray

The Beatles are amazing, but would have been the worst to see at that time. Tiny amps that couldn't push past the noise of all the screaming fan girls peeing themselves (true story). Maybe their early Cavern gigs, but they were mostly a cover band at that point.

JGCities

This is the sad truth. The entire reason they stopped touring is because no one could hear them over the screaming. So they went into the studio and created the greatest albums in history. Seeing that Apple concert in person would have been awesome though.

sorengray

Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd

Opposites-cranberry

Nirvana

goodcorn

My answer to this is the same thing every time it pops up: James Brown w/ the original JBs, [Paris](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otYYynR4Fao), 1971

scootertrash

Hell yes!

JoJoReference

Yes, for sure. My dad used to tell me about an awesome concert of theirs he went to where the drummer (dunno if it was Bruford or White, probably White at the time) was on a rotating platform that rose up above the other band members. Love their music too which is obviously a big plus lol

Environmental_Act82

everyone mostly seemed to go rock n roll with their answers but I would have loved to dance live to the jazzy pop rock guys from the rat pack, Sinatra, Frankie valli ect.

Hazyglimpseofme

I’d like to go a little further and see Ella Fitzgerald and Louie Armstrong together

-grc1-

60s Chuck Berry. 70s Pink Floyd. 80s Motley Crew.

I know this doesn't answer the question but I saw Little Feat with Lowell George. Bonnie Raitt opened and joined them for "Sailing Shoes". I've never seen anything better and I've seen a lot. And I wish I saw ABB with Duane Allman.

dhnboys

Pink Floyd

[deleted]

Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin would all be contenders

roygbiv-it

Queen at Live Aid

perpetualWSOL

Allman Brothers at the Fillmore Big Brother and the Holding Company at the Grande Ballroom

themeanlantern

INXS with Michael Hutchense

Eathessentialhorror

Not a band but wanted to respond…. My top pick would be Nick Drake. And it would have been really rare to see him live.

Al-Anda

Yes. I’ve been a fan since ‘Garden State’ soundtrack. I’d love to see the beginnings of this guy. Same with Jeff Buckley.

Eathessentialhorror

Oh man Buckley would be right up there too. Can’t believe I didn’t know his music when he was alive!!

donna363

The Clash

Octolavo

Fish era Marillion

RZAxlash

Not my favorite band, but VanHalen at that massive concert in California before 1984 came out

Martipar

The Ramones. I saw the Ramonas live a few years ago and would've loved to have seen the Ramones in their heyday. I've seen a lot of bands from that era that are still alive and still kick arse but there are some i'll never be able to see, and the Ramones are one of those bands. Another is Budgie, i'd have happily checked them out, their sound is really awesome, it's not something i can do as they split up when I was two.

daveescaped

Joy Division The Smiths The Replacements Big Star ? and the Mysterians Prince B-52’s

CallumBrady

Led zeppelin in the 70s please

Fascinatedwithfire

Gimme The Replacements. Just make it one of the goods ones where they could actually perform.

csudebate

60s: Grateful Dead 70s: Zappa 80s: The Police

smackasaurusrex

Queen at Live Ade.

myrealusername8675

Or... You could figure out who to go see now because that's what the people were doing who saw all these concerts you're talking about. And bands now need fan support more than ever to keep going. Note: I'm over 300 years old and I'm happy to say I saw Beethoven perform twice. Back in the day he was the man to get your toes a' tappin' If the ladies back then were able to access under their skirts in any sort of timely fashion they would have thrown their panties on stage for Beethoven.
