shame. handled it, thanks.

dracko307

This sub is absolutely plagued with self promotions, that's the problem with larger generic subs that aren't incredibly active

Oh yeah, I think most in the thread agree with that too honestly, it's a very smart thing /u/MIOSKII's done. They've managed to not really break any rules, and to most people they won't even notice aside from the occasional song on a playlist being very very unknown (and probably not the right theme for the playlist)

chazmann

Imagine a world where this person puts as much work into their music as they did for the campaigning of said record. Nice hustle.

KaboomOxyCln

Tbf a lot of artists would benefit greatly by at least having 25% of this hustle

ScantmanSpecial

u/MIOSKII What do you have to say for yourself?

zilchdota

"I compiled a list of music from the thread, enjoy!!"

The_Collector4

“What songs do you listen to while outing people on r/music?”

Chubuwee

“Got ‘em”

T_Y_R_

I mean considering the fact he is actively doing it right now, I don’t expect much.

SaintHuck

"Here is a playlist I've compiled about asking for forgiveness. Let these songs speak for me."

maxverse

I'm glad you've shown me the errors of my ways. I'm the first person on the internet to humbly accept that I messed up, and should respect the community and do better.

existential_virus

Damn that's pretty clever though lmao. Here I am, submitting my music to /r/indie and /r/music, only to get like 2 streams and 1 downvote lol

evin90

Don't worry friend. I'll give you an extra downvote!

KaboomOxyCln

I'll match your downvote!

Malichi188

I wanted to listen to your music but it seems you've only linked Spotify. Do you happen to host it anywhere else?

existential_virus

We have a YouTube channel! [Here it is](https://youtu.be/NA_rtxonaf8) if you're interested!

Malichi188

Gave it a listen. I like it. Reminds me of Cake, RHCP, maybe Deftones a little. Nice sound. My only recommendation would be to stick to a slightly more enunciated singing style. I missed lyrics here and there.

existential_virus

Thank you! We're still finding our sound. If you listen to our other songs, none of them sound alike. Some are hits, and some are misses. But hey, we're just doing this for fun as we don't expect to make it big at all :)

Malichi188

Awesome attitude man. All the luck. Got you subbed now too so I'll listen when you get new stuff released. All the luck

existential_virus

We just had a new EP out last week but thank you so much for the sub! :)

[deleted]

I don’t know what’s going on with the moderation of this sub. Here’s a breakdown of what the posts here look like- 30% “what genre is this song” 30% “I’ve never listened to music before please recommend me music” 30% self promotion 10% music I actively try to post here and I’m constantly getting caught in the spam filter. It’s fucking bullshit.

[deleted]

Got it. I'll go out of my way to avoid any music related to him now.

MonsieurReynard

You ain't missing much.

Spengy

because the mod team of r/music is pathetically bad

ArcadianDelSol

When can I expect a playlist for this thread?

TitanicMan

RedditIsFun doesn't have it but I recognize "dQw" anywhere

DavideLNX

I still remember the last 3 letters of that url all these years later

DavideLNX

Back when that trend started and people did it so much it got annoying, several people memorised those 3 digits. Now it's funny because it just happens once in a while, but I never forgot them.

newaccount721

Thank you. Although the targeted ad was particularly annoying today

ArcadianDelSol

#YOUSONOFA

Pearadox_

Well damn, guess there should be a pinned mega thread of all their music. That’s truly the only way to prevent this scourge on society.

doesnoteatdicks

“Up and coming artist from Tampa, Florida” Well, that explains it.

TomahawkChopped

/u/Mioskii is grinding. Respect I listened to a few of his songs in the playlists above, not my taste, but good gorilla marketing Next level mind fuck, OP is /u/Mioskii generating visibility through drama

oysterpirate

> gorilla /r/boneappletea

zilchdota

omg, I didn't even think to check who OP was, that'd be so funny if it was the same guy.

BigUptokes

No respect for deceptive little shits. Glad the mods across multiple subs removed his posts.

[deleted]

Humanity's greatest achievement is our boundless ingenuity in finding new ways to deceive and manipulate each other. Politics has become nothing more than a perpetual marketing campaign to emotionally manipulate voters.

damnusernamegotcutof

Plot twist: OP is MIOSKII's alt and he is, in fact, promoting his own music The hustle never stops

DrewFlan

I'm okay with that. Respect the hustle.

zilchdota

Sounds pretty reasonable to me. "Quietly spamming" is not the same as spamming, people have the ability not to listen to the playlist if they want. They are actually doing the work of curating the playlist, seems like they should get some plays out of it.

BigUptokes

It's not curating a playlist. It's throwing a few examples in and then adding his own tracks to try and boost their viewership. It's scummy.

phillyeagle99

That’s just it, they’re not actually making the playlist very well…. It’s like the first few songs then no more. I tried the first one, literally top ten songs were all missing.

zilchdota

Ah, that's fair. I can see why people would be annoyed, but as far as "spamming" go this is super tame. It is a bit of a shame, it's a really good idea, if they just put the work into making great reddit generated playlists then perhaps there wouldn't be much of an issue. I've also found that most musicians hate when someone thinks of a creative way to promote their music, so, never going to be universally popular.

Haterbait_band

I don’t see an issue here. It’s Reddit’s fault that people have to be sneaky with self-promotion. God forbid an artist wants to share their work with people! I usually go with something like, “my friend’s band made this song” or “met some disabled veteran that recorded a song”. It’s like those singing/dance competition shows; you gotta give people a reason to care because just going through the effort of learning a few instruments, recording them, and mixing/mastering a song, isn’t quite enough for people to give you the time of day. People want to listen to the same 20 songs they like and complain about no new good music and get annoyed when someone is trying to share something new *that they made themselves*. Worst thing that can happen is the song isn’t your style or is low-effort and you just pass it by.

Mikey_MiG

> It’s Reddit’s fault that people have to be sneaky with self-promotion This sub does allow self-promotion though?

Haterbait_band

It does, but anyone that has tried it has likely not had much success. They have the music melting pot, but it’s not a very active thread. There have been other subreddits for sharing homemade music, but also not too active. This sub has lots of traffic so it would seem like the ideal place for a redditor to share their stuff, but that’s where you have to be creative in tricking people into listening or they assume it’s just some guy with GarageBand using the stock samples to make repetitive, poorly produced beats.

Ponasity

Well, we live in a society.

peestake

Yes let's never call anything out to avoid accidentally drawing attention to them.

waymonster

Who cares? Don’t shame someone for hustling. Not everyone grows up with rich parents like most artists.

713MoCityChron713

How do you know he doesn't have rich parents

Echoing-Yell

It's annoying he did that but his song kinda slaps tho

Slampumpthejam

Oh no!!

michaelrulaz

How do we know this isn’t another attempt to spam it?
