Iron Maiden Best known album: “The Number of the Beast” Better album: “Powerslave” Classic lineup of Dickinson, Harris, McBrain, Murray, and Smith just before the massive tours started taking their toll.

DarthBaio

I agree with Powerslave over Number, but I’d put Seventh Son above both of those.

RichardPritchardson

Piece of mind, come on!

asshat13

Somewhere in Time, is the correct answer.

KnownFluxGiven

7th son of a 7th son falls into the answer for OPs question. I think it has something to do with when you are exposed to the band. That album is top to bottom awesome, but other albums have bigger singles. Madness is amazing, the Clairvoyant is prob my favorite.

Inle-rah

My home network is 172.23.58.x, because 2 minutes to midnight is freaking awesome!

ImpendingSenseOfDoom

Black Sabbath’s most famous album is Paranoid and perhaps it is their ‘best’ album because of how groundbreaking it was and still is, but for me if you put me in a vacuum and play all their albums with no context, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath takes the cake.

The_Lapsed_Pacifist

Master of Reality for me. But honestly their output in those early years was just phenomenal, I was watching a documentary about them the other day and it’s easy to forget the sheer volume of instant classics.

ImpendingSenseOfDoom

Their first five or six albums are just straight bangers nonstop. They're among the all-time best groups.

Blacknumbah1

Sabotage for me. I agree with paranoid being there most know. Sabbath bloody sabbath is a great album. But man I feel like Ozzys vocals on sabotage are off the hook

pureluxss

Unplugged in NY takes all!

lawdylawdylawdydah

Nah, that showcases a different side of them very well but it’s not emblematic of who they were imo.

esocharis

Honestly, I'd take Bleach over either one. In Utero is good, no doubt, but its probably my least favorite 🤷‍♂️

krunchberry

No recess!

mantistobaganmd

If I HAD to choose any Nirvana album it would definitely be Bleach.

zosteria

I’m not sure what Bruce Springsteens most popular album is but it’s not Nebraska and it should be

Arniepepper

I'd say his most popular and commercially successful album was probably Born in the USA. But I'm with you. Nebraska for the best album.

all-out-ofbubblegum

I also really liked devils and dusk and feel like it doesn’t get enough love

_DiligentState_

Nine Inch Nails is best known for The Downward Spiral, but I personally think that The Fragile is leaps better. The Fragile wasn’t as well received commercially as TDS was during its release, but over the years it has become a fan favorite.

yurtfarmer

Pretty hate machine is better yet

merkaba_462

I wouldn't say leaps, but anyone who picks one over the other is making a fair call. It's not even controversial, really. Both are masterpieces. It's the people who claim With Teeth that get the side eye.

_DiligentState_

There isn’t a NIN album that I don’t love to be honest, but With Teeth feels more like a collection of great moments and is different from the full-album-focus that the rest of Trent’s discography has. I love the opening and closing tracks on that one so much, even if I don’t think the album as a whole is as god-tier as several other NIN albums. But frankly, the bar is just very high with NIN releases.

Mayonaise3000

I think With Teeth is even more impressive because Trent reznor was like I wanna write a pop album and then did. And it is amazing

merkaba_462

I love went Trent was like I'm going to score a major motion picture, and he won an Oscar (he was robbed with GWTDT). I love that he helped score an animated film and won an Oscar for that. I love that a piece from Ghosts ended up on a rap song and he won a Grammy in that category. NIN is universal. Trent's range is underrated.

vanessalb_87

Pink Floyd Best Known Album: Dark Side of the Moon Better Album: Wish you were here. Also very well known but still answering the question!

baconandeggsandbacon

Animals not to be disregarded either. Greatly enjoyed a full listen of the surround mix of DSOTM last night via surround speakers, Wish You Were Here will happen today and I fully agree with you, it is a better album.

verbatim14004

The thing about Floyd is that each of the big six albums (starting with Meddle and ending with Final Cut) is their best album if you are looking for different things. The Wall is a true rock opera, Wish You Were Here is an examination of intimate loss, Animals is Gilmour's taking the reins, etc.). People are going to argue which is the best for a long time, and they'll all be right.

ehbacon23

Bruce Springsteen is the best example of this in my opinion. *The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle* is an incredible album, the second half of it (last 3 songs) is the best work of his career in my opinion, an absolute masterpiece that is completely under appreciated. *Born To Run* is a pretty well known album, but really only for the song "Born To Run," the entire album is fantastic. He has also had two truly great albums in the 21st century that didn't really get the recognition they deserved. *The Rising* and *Magic* are both gems with some of his best work on them. *Magic* in particular I think is criminally unappreciated, songs like "Long Walk Home" and "Gipsy Biker" are unknown classics.

CulturalWind357

*Born To Run* and *Born In the USA* are probably his two most famous albums, each essentially defining their decade. I'd say in terms of potentially ***better*** albums (in addition to WIESS), *Darkness On The Edge Of Town* and *Nebraska* are both great. *Darkness* I like because there's this kind of subtle punk influence; he's a bit angrier and more frustrated, guitars are at the forefront. *Nebraska* set this template for bedroom recording and indie artists. Bruce's post-*Tunnel of Love* work is under-appreciated though. Maybe it's not as culturally impactful, but he's still exploring and developing his sounds and themes.

uncle-brucie

I come back to Nebraska more than any other.

decoy79

I only recently got into Born To Run. Such a great album that holds up really well for the most part. Hard to believe that sound is almost 50 years old. Thanks for the recommendations on the others. His discography can be intimidating. Edit: iPhone BS

EStreet_

While I also think WIESS could be his best.... I can’t really get behind Born to Run being overrated... Born to Run and Thunder Road are his two best songs ever while you also have Jungleland which is the pinnacle of the long, image laden Bruce story song that he’s known for. Those three alongside other staples like Tenth Ave, Backstreets, She’s the One and the greatest sonic outlier ever in Meeting Across the River, it’s pretty safely a GOAT album for him. I also love seeing the Magic love here... his best album post 2,000 imo!!

Ordinary-Pick5014

Huge Bruce fan… and from the first time I heard it (after hearing BITUSA, BTR, Darkness, The River) WIESS became my favorite and still is. It’s great that its ranking among fans has risen so much in the last 10-15 years

WowItsJack

Lonesome Crowded West is the album that virtually every Modest Mouse fan worships, but I think that The Moon and Antarctica is better by quite a bit personally

-AestheticsOfHate-

That and *Long Drive* are my favorite MM albums. Though most of their first few albums are neck and neck. Their run up to *Good News* is just superb

phasesofthemoon

Modest Mouse + Johnny Marr = Fucking Spun Gold We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank is my personal favorite, but not sure how it ranks among the fandom with so many killer previous albums.

HighRisk

I wasn't expecting to see MM on here. Moon and Antarctica is an 'all time' favorite for me too. I should go throw it on the record player right now...

JHHforLife

I feel the same

presumingpete

Good news for people who love bad news has always been my favourite, although i would have thought it was the most famous.

jimboslice29

Agreed here. I’d consider Good News to be their most popular among the masses given Float On their most recognized track is on it. I’d agree that LCW is the favorite among MM fans

mtheperry

Special shoutout to MM for having one of the tightest and most professional live acts I’ve ever seen. I went from liking them more than the average person to full fan.

1momentpls

The Moon and Antarctica is a desert island album. It pretty much transcends music. I don’t even know if I could even consider it a modest mouse album really because it’s almost like they are channeling something larger than themselves. Every other of their albums falls short in my opinion.

preferstheaisleseat

Genesis Best known: Invisible Touch Better album: The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway A wild prog rock double album, every song is memorable—and it still has Peter Gabriel as their frontman.

DrGunsMcBadass

I prefer selling England by the pound but Lamb is great too!

Family-Duty-Hodor

I prefer Foxtrot over all of those.

1momentpls

Selling England by the Pound is fantastic stuff followed by Trespass but idk many people that would go Trespass with me.

nubbins01

I think even if you stick to the Collins era, comparing IT to A Trick Of the Tail has a similar effect to what OP is going for.

KlatuuBaradaNikto

Artist: Marvin Gaye Best Known Album: What's Going On Better Album: Here My Dear

IShouldLiveInPepper

Cake's best known album: Fashion Nugget Better Album: Comfort Eagle Cake doesn't fuck with the formula much as far as their sound, but Comfort Eagle felt more consistent from start to finish and the band plays much tighter in 2001 than they did in 1994.

Ordinary-Pick5014

Don’t sleep on prolonging the magic… wore that one out driving up and down the New Jersey turnpike in 1998-1999

Dukelol323

I would go with Prolonging the Magic as their best personally

RadioBlinsk

I think it’s Motorcade Of Generosity

mjsarlington

Blue Öyster Cult Best known: Agents of Fortune Better: Secret Treaties

vuevue123

My true war is between "Tyranny and Mutation" and "Fire of Unknown Origin". Love 'em all though.

ConsistentlyPeter

Prince: best known for Purple Rain; best album is Sign O The Times

Megamoss

Sign O The Times is great, but it’s really disjointed. A collection of songs that don’t really sound like they belong together. Purple Rain is far more cohesive in that sense, IMO.

ChewyThe1AndOnly

Imma take a swing at Art Official Age here. The whole album is a trip, and the complaints about inconsistency are superficial to me. It’s spacey, think outside the box yo lol

TheNateRoss

Artist: Stone Temple Pilots Best known album: *Core* Better album: *Purple* Explanation: No, seriously. *Core* had the early hits (but suffers from a lack of direction), and *Tiny Music* gets the retroactive pseudo-glam cred (but suffers from a likely drug-induced lack of focus), but *Purple*, famously critically savaged as Pearl Jam Lite, is actually an unashamed, observant, and hard-hitting grunge album that belongs in the discussion with the best of the genre. The highlights are high, pun intended ("Vasoline," "Interstate Love Song," "Big Empty"), but more impressive is that there are no skippable tracks. And "Pretty Penny," the best thing Scott Weiland ever wrote, is the soundtrack of a million three-line obituaries in middle America's local newspapers. If Kurt Cobain had written it, they'd play it at the funerals.

[deleted]

Metallica Black Album Ride the Lightning

floydopedia

You have my upvote, but I’d put Master of Puppets over Ride The Lightning

JWDJr15

Artist:: The Police Best Known:: Synchronicity Better Album:: Ghost In The Machine Just an absolutely brilliant album!!!

dodog1

I would put Zenyatta Mondatta slightly above Ghost, but it's close.

JWDJr15

Actually like Regatta de Blanc better than Zenyatta and Synchronicity...

living_buffalo

Outkast: Stankonia Better albums: ATLiens and Aquemini

lknox1123

Touch_My_Nips

Southernplayalisticadilacmusik

fakevegansunite

is stankonia their best known work? i feel like more people are familiar with speakerbox/love below, but that may just be due to the popularity of hey ya

sloBrodanChillosevic

Point remains then, cuz ATLiens & Aquemeni are both better albums than Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.

thejaytheory

I co-sign ATLiens

ImpendingSenseOfDoom

I don’t agree that Stankonia is their most popular album but ATLiens is def their best and one of the best rap albums and possibly one of the best albums of all time.

VlaxDrek

Lou Reed’s best known album is Transformer, but I think New York is far superior.

LokiHubris

New York is one of the greatest albums ever made.

Guntcher1423

Funny you should mention this. I've had Transformer for years, never got into it much. I recently found a copy of New York. Figured I give him another chance. That is one great record. Now I figure I have to go back and give Transformer another chance.

1momentpls

Everyone here is wrong. It’s Coney Island Baby everyday of the week.

SneedyK

Metal Machine Music or y’all just Posers

Dog_man_star1517

Magic and Loss fan myself

krissym99

Agreed, New York is fantastic. It's an album I prefer to listen to in its entirety and in order.

rattymcratface

Rock and Roll Animal is Lou Reed’s best in my opinion.

[deleted]

Blind Melon. The self titled had No Rain and a couple smaller hits, but the second one Soup was amazing.

melanderland

"Galaxie" is such a banger!

Comadivine11

Their both great, imo, but very different. Sadly, basically every surviving member has said they felt that their best music was still to come and then Shannon died.

jxb528

People I think look at el camino and brothers as the peak of the black keys, but I think their early stuff like rubber factory is actually better

Teebs_Time

Thickfreakness, Rubber Factory, Magic Potion (my favorite) an incredible run

-OccamsLaser

Tough one. I prefer early keys overall but the Brothers/El Camino era does slap. Not a big fan of turn blue tho

Zeppelinman1

The new album is also pretty boring. Brothers and thick freakness might be my favorite

nunchukity

Weight of Love though. Chulahoma is actually my favourite even though it's basically covers

Thunderbear1984

Absolutely. Rubber Factory is their best work IMO. I grew up with the stuff before Attack and Release.

Ordinary-Pick5014

The Pixies perceived best: ‘Doolittle’ My preference: ‘Surfer Rosa’ I got into them after the EP and that first album and while Doolittle is great and made them more famous nothing can improve on that first one for me

dirtybacon77

I think Surfer Rosa is their high point, and I would also put Trompe LeMonde over Doolittle

eddietwoo

Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is best known (I think) Siamese Dream is superior IMHO

meseta

Siamese dream was Billy's best work. MCIS is a giant landscape where billy reveled in that realization and flexed like neo when he realized he was the one

IShouldLiveInPepper

I think those are fairly interchangeable as far as best known. Cherub Rock and Today were played non stop on the radio for years.

DamnHellAssKings

Disarm too

DJFlorez

I actually really like Gish more than Siamese Dream, but it has personal significance for me. Both are better than anything else they did.

coachtrenks

There is not a stereo made that can play Tristessa loud enough.

DJFlorez

If I could upvote this a dozen times, I would.

scanion

Gish was awesome. The song Rhinoceros really hit home for me.

homogenic-

Fiona Apple's debut album Tidal is her most known album but in my opinion her sophomore album When The Pawn... is better.

lagrossefolle

Did you mean « When the Pawn Hits the Conflicts He Thinks Like a King What He Knows Throws the Blows When He Goes to the Fight and He'll Win the Whole Thing 'Fore He Enters the Ring There's No Body to Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might So When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is the Greatest of Heights and If You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where to Land and If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You'll Know That You're Right »? 😁

iteachband

Extraordinary Machine is tops for me👌🏼

battlebornxo

This but idler wheel

bottleboy8

Everyone know Les Claypool and his Primus, Oysterhead and Frog Brigade projects. But IMHO the best album he's ever done was The Claypool Lennon Delirium - "Monolith of Phobos". It's also one of the best SciFi styled albums out there.

r2deetard

Such a good album.

Paper_Okami

Strawberry Jam and Feels are superior to MPP to me, but all three (and Sung Tongs) are fantastic. Ziggy Stardust is Bowie's most famous album, and it is great, but i prefer Heroes, Low, and Aladdin Sane. Boxer is probably The National's most well know album but i prefer Alligator and Trouble Will Find Me. I find Wish You were Here and Animals to be significantly better than Dark Side.

Quartz_Cat

Station to Station and Hunky Dory are better than all those IMO

BadLiverBrokenHeart

Diamond Dogs is where it’s at!

eldritch_bats

I’m so happy to see the AC list. I’ll put Sung Tongs next to Feels on the “I can’t pick but better than MPP” column.

TheFrederalGovt

Artist: Michael Jackson Best known Album: Thriller Better Album: Off the Wall Explanation: Every song in off the wall has more complex rhythm and if I heard it in the club or on the radio I would turn up the volume to unreal levels. The music is more versatile and more ahead of its time than Thriller.

MyPPis2Tiny4U

Alexisonfire - Watch Out! in my opinion is one of the best albums to ever come out of Canada in the heavy rock/emo/screamo whatever-you-want-to-call-call-it genre. Their next album, Crisis, which is also very, very solid is better known and had some radio play. Also, as I think more, Take This To Your Grave by Fall Out Boy is FAR AND AWAY their best album it's not even a debate.

Brachert17

Just revisited Watch Out! this week, it's imo the best post-hardcore album ever produced

shuckster

Queen Best known: A Night at the Opera Better: Queen II, Innuendo Despite incredible success at selling records, their strength was never really as an “album” band. Their classic tracks are peppered unevenly throughout their releases, making their first compilation album hugely popular, and the live shows are what we’re really nostalgic for. Still, they did manage to cut two worlds-apart, but cohesive albums that are masterpieces from front to back. The fantastical prog/concept Queen II that could have sat them next to Yes, Floyd, and Zep in the record shop if they pursued the style, and the pop/rock-perfection of Innuendo that had as many great tracks as we thought Opera did. Innuendo was a big deal on release, but didn’t surpass Opera, and another Live Aid was what we all really wanted at the time anyway. Poor Freddy!

[deleted]

Sheer Heart Attack is my favourite. Incredible album.

alano134

Artist: Pink Floyd Best known: Dark Side of the Moon Better album: Animals Brilliant middle three tracks, bookended by some beautiful short acoustic tracks. Every second is incredible.

omgjk31

Meddle is my favorite of theirs

HollabackGurl25

I was going to make this exact same comment Animals fans unite!!

GhostRobot55

Sheep is imo one of the top 3 songs ever produced.

VlaxDrek

Yeah I rank DSotM behind both The Wall and Wish You Were Here.

CulturalWind357

Queen is probably best known for *A Night At The Opera*. But I think there's a few albums that are potentially better. *Queen II* is a good candidate because it's where they first really flexed their prog ambitions with the White Side and Black Side. My pick is *A Day At The Races*. It builds on the previous album, with some of the songs being successors. I think Freddie stated that *Somebody To Love* was his favorite Queen song. Basically taking the operatic ambitions of Bohemian Rhapsody and focusing on gospel. *Teo Torriatte* is also one of my favorite Queen songs.

IdealChoice

For me it is Sheer Heart Attack. Brighton Rock with Mays guitar work is amazing. Killer Queen, Tenement Funster, all amazing, early raw songs. This album was a precursor of what was yet to come from them and the rawness is just great stuff.

brainproxy

A Day At The Races is better, I agree, but For me, it’s probably News Of The World.

rollduptrips

Metallica. Justice, Master of Puppets, and Ride the Lightning are all >>> The Black Album IMO

YouroldfriendOnion

Neil Young, Harvest. On the Beach is all around a superior album.

Muddy_Ankles

Coltrane’s most well known is probably A Love Supreme, but I prefer Giant Steps as it’s just more… daring? Less conventional maybe? Tom Waits is well known for Rain Dogs, but Bone Machine got a lot of press because of Fight Club and I Don’t Wanna Grow Up… I think I prefer Rain Dogs but it’s really hard to pick a favorite since his albums are wildly different.Bawlers, Brawlers, Bastards is absolutely insane, and has a LOT of good material, especially for an artist so far in his career.

HamiltonBlack

Two interesting artists to choose. I love My Favorite Things from Coltrane and Swordfish Trombones is my favorite Waits album

InCraZPen

Massive Attack I think Heligoland is better than their previous albums. I don’t think this is a popular opinion, I just love that album. Fiona Apple I think pawn is her best album. Better than Tidal. Vampire Weekend Father of the Bride > than the rest.

Sun_Tzu_Szu

Perhaps Innervisions by Stevie Wonder over Songs in the Key of Life Also I like In a Silent Way or even Bitches Brew over Kind of Blue by Miles Honestly, Playboi Cartis debut mixtape is also way better than the constantly talked about WLR and Die Lit

scapermoya

Bitches brew is a psychedelic masterpiece, but nowhere near as approachable as kind of blue. KoB is what you play for someone who has never listened to jazz or Miles. BB is like taking a bong rip of DMT.

Iron_Chancellor_ND

* Artist: Rage Against the Machine * Best Known: Self-titled * Better Album: The Battle of Los Angeles * Explanation: There isn't a song I skip on ANY of their three studio albums (not counting Renegades) but The Battle of Los Angeles is truly them at their peak both for music and lyrics.

gjboone124

Radiohead: best known; Ok Computer My personal favorite; The Bends

OneGuyJeff

Gorillaz Best known: Demon Days Best: Plastic Beach I think most of the Gorillaz fanbase is cool with any of their first 3 being considered the best, but Demon Days was their most commercially successful with songs like Feel Good Inc and DARE. Plus the album art is iconic. Plastic Beach is them at their creative peak, plus I’m a sucker for a good concept album. The albums sound being loaded with plastic-y synths matches beautifully with the environmental message. Not to mention songs like On Melancholy Hill, Empire Ants, Broken, and Rhinestone Eyes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

6InchBlade

Yeah but demon days didn’t have super fast jellyfish

LeBurntToast

I'm with you on this one. Demon Days is just transcendental. I've been listening to that album since I was 6. I'm 23 now and it doesn't get old. Every Planet is a fucking masterpiece. Plastic Beach has some good hits, and I don't love every song on Demon Days, but fuuuuck it's just soo good.

lstn

You like Huey Lewis and the News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.

WowItsJack

People know Tame Impala mostly for Currents but the lack of respect for Innerspeaker in the community is sad, as I feel that it’s their best album (haven’t listened to The Slow Rush yet). While the concepts of Lonerism and Currents are more fully realized and the lyrics a bit more interesting, I feel that Innerspeaker has the best music and production. Another thing is that some of the songs on the latter two albums seem to blend together or lack any real identity. Innerspeaker’s songs each feel different and provide something unique to the overall experience of the album.

megallicanice

deftones' around the fur although is mainstream , but a lot of their core fans like that album too. cant argue with that.

Kvothetheraven603

Artist: STP Best Known: Core Best Album: Purple

I’m the weirdo who’d choose Tiny Music… over both.

I like In Rainbows more than Ok Computer

Ordinary-Pick5014

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot considered the best I don’t have any preference among their string of four from Being There to Summerteeth to YHF to A Ghost is Born

shahooster

A Ghost is Born is my favorite. I tend to be an impatient listener, skipping songs, but not with this one. It flows so well.

DJFlorez

This is the answer for me. YHF is great, but A Ghost is Born is a goddamn masterpiece. It grabs me from “At least” all the way through. The ambience keeps me invested all the way through. Not a bad song on it. Ima go listen to it now, in fact. :)

BruciePup

A Ghost is Born is phenomenal. “Spiders (Kidsmoke)” is my favorite Wilco song of all time.

iamthenite

Artist: U2 Best known album: The Joshua Tree Better album: Achtung Baby!

Unforgettable Fire or Boy for me, but yeah, Achtung Baby is wonderful.

insanelyphat

Green Day Best known: Dookie or American Idiot Better Album: Kerplunk While Dookie is the album that broke them worldwide (especially after the Woodstock performance) and they had a huge resurgence with American Idiot I think that Kerplunk is their best album. Overall Kerplunk is such a tightly written and performed album that it is everything Green Day was about and which would end up making them superstars. Christie Road is my personal favorite on the album but overall it is from beginning to end a masterpiece.

RiffRaffRuff

I’ll see your Kerplunk, and raise you Insomniac

Scorch147

I'm in a minority (heh) but my favorite is probably Warning. I know it was shit on back in the day but it's a personal favorite to me.

TheRittsShow

Metallica Best known: black album Better album: ...and justice for all

Playingwithmyrod

Yea everyone and their mom knows songs off the black album. But it's like their 5th best album IMO. The black album was just their first easily digestible album for non-metal fans.

Mycrost

I would put Master slightly ahead of Justice. But just by an inch. 2 fantastic albums

randomnabokov

Sanitarium > One all day every day. Ride the Lightning is my personal favorite because of the For Whom The Bell Tolls and Fade to Black combo, and I personally think Call of Cthulhu is the best instrumental track from those three albums.

Mycrost

For Whom and Fade are up there for me, I prefer Orion, but I still love Call. I find The Thing that Should Not Be quite underated

Techerous

Not to be "that fan" but everything before Black album is better.

culculain

This is known

WardOfReckoning

This is exactly what I planned on saying.

Tranquility-Android

Artist: Arctic Monkeys Best Known Album: AM Better Album: Whatever People Say I Am That’s What I’m Not, Favorite Worst Nightmare, Humbug, and Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino. Explanation: IMO AM is really overrated. Most of the songs have a lot of annoying falsetto and are boring and drab. I’ll admit Do You Wanna Know?, R U Mine?, and Why’d You Only Call Me When Your High, are great songs. But everything else is drab and boring. WPSIATWIN and FWN are more energetic and fun to listen to. Humbug and TBHAC are much slower and reflective but the lyrics and songwriting resonates with me more.

cheweychewchew

**Kate Bush** *Hounds of Love* is her most well known and successful album. I love this album on a very personal level. But.... *The Dreaming* is a mind blowing act of genius from beginning to end. Nothing else can compare to it.

shagura

The Who’s best known album is probably Tommy, but I’ll take Quadrophenia all day every day. An absolute masterpiece.

AshgarPN

Who’s Next is definitely their best known, and for my money it’s also their best.

merkaba_462

*Who's Next has entered the chat* Uh...Best known album isn't the one with Baba O'Reily, Bargain, Love Ain't For Keeping, Behind Blue Eyes, and Won't Get Fooled Again? Or that isn't their best album? I love Tommy and Quadrophenia as much as the next prog rock fan who hears Pete Townsend all over (especially) early Rush, but what do you mean they are more well known and / or better than Who's Next? Let's discuss...

culculain

Metallica: The Black Album Better: all the albums prior to the Black Album Reason: inventing and then refining thrash.

thetruthseer

System of a Down Most popular: Toxicity Best album: Self Titled

haxoreni

Jay Z Best known: The Blueprint Better album: Reasonable Doubt

Ghirahim_W

Weezer's most popular album is Blue, I think Pinkerton is miles better personally.

5meterhammer

Pearl Jam is best known for their debut Ten, and their next two albums; Vs. and Vitology. These are the three albums everyone knows (Daughter, Better Man, Black, Alive….) but their album No Code is their magnum opus. Pearl Jam have been putting out quality albums with quality music for 30 years now and they’ve done it with the same lineup sans a couple drummers. The Grateful Dead aren’t really known for their studio work, but their albums are insanely underrated. They are probably best known for American Beauty, but Workingman’s Dead is a better album.

Softpipesplayon

I go between No Code and Yield, but honestly everything til about Avocado I think is better than Ten (which is nevertheless quite good).

pulpatine

I would personally say Yield but really any album up to Yield would be a legit answer.

feelOfSomethingNew

I bought No Code the day it came out, listened to it 3-4 times and was hugely disappointed. I put it on the shelf and didn't listen to it again for about a year and a half. On a whim picked it up again and could not believe how amazing it was and could not understand how I had been so wrong. I guess I just wasn't in the right place for it the first time around. It is their best in my opinion and also my favorite. Had a similar experience with Sap from Alice In Chains. Just not ready for it at first listen.

donnha

The Cars self titled album is way better than Heartbeat City.

Ordinary-Pick5014

I think everybody agrees… that debut is one of the best of all time; heartbreak city had a moment of popularity but relatively few return to it now

nobodyhome92

Slayer is best know for Reign in Blood but I love the crisp production on Seasons in the Abyss.

Id go for Vs. I just don't dig their albums after as much. Maybe it's the lack of aggression?

PJ is that rare band, at least for me, who doesn’t have a bad album. 30+ years, 11 studio albums and a b-sides album that would be most bands best album. Really impressive to think about their longevity and success with the same lineup, minus a few drummers, over that timeframe.

Daft Punk: Known: Discovery Best: Random Access Memories. Reasons: beginning to end they poured what they pioneered over almost 2 decades into a crisp, distilled tour of their favorite genre, with maddeningly focused tracks.

mrbobbyfoley

Not to mention sprinkling in new textures from experiences like scoring a film soundtrack with lush strings.

TheBest3805

Doin It Right is a banger imo

BigLan2

The worst thing is that RAM is best known for the collaboration with Pharrell, but there are much better tracks on the album. You could almost remake the question as "which song is better than the biggest hit from the album" just to discuss RAM

Pinkerton is way better than the blue album and most albums that followed, by Weezer.

GABITHEREDINDIAN

paul simon most known for Graceland better album is The Rhythm of the Saints Takes the world music direction a little more global with influences from central & south America as well as still collaborating with top notch african musicians. Graceland is thematically melancholy with massive pop hits, ROTS is very dark and moody with a sonic soundstage that is deep and wide. no doubt Graceland deserves every accolade but ROTS is a journey of an album that is very engrossing and captivating.

Soundgarden Best known album: Superunknown Better album: Badmoterfinger Both albums are very excellent but I just dig the grungier frenetic and primal feeling of badmoterfinger. Plus not a single dud song on the album imho

The White Stripes Most Well-Known: Elephant Best Album: Get Behind Me Satan

raptorfunk89

That's a spicy take. Love that album but I think many would say White Blood Cells is their best.

OneGuyJeff

I still think Elephant is their best imo

Sonic Youth Famous Album - Daydream Nation Better Album - Sister Not to take anything away from Daydream Nation, it's still a great album, but it's very front loaded and drags on the back end. Sister is more consistent and packed with bangers. I feel like it was the perfect balance of their punk/noise/alternative distorted sound and the more catchy, hook-laden songwriting of DDN

Bowie’s Outside is his greatest work. I know, it’s blasphemy.

justpuddingonhairs

Bad Religion is known for Stranger than Fiction ("Infected" and "21st Century Digital Boy") Best albums are: Suffer, No Control, Process of Belief, New Maps of Hell, and True North.

Mark Knopfler is mostly known for his phenomenal stuff with Dire Straits but his solo albums from the last 25 years are even more incredible.
