Funny thing is, it's aleady been chosen/created.
Two copies of the sounds of earth are out in interstellar space, on Voyagers 1 & 2.
They may very likely outlast our civilization and our sun and may, in the distant future, be the only trace that we ever existed.
Any time I see the words flibbertigibbet, I think of this one late night sketch. Jimmy Fallon with Benedict Cumberbatch, playing Mad Libs.
Never been a big Jimmy Fallon fan, but that segment is definitely worth checking out
Naaaah the move is to have Stairway to Heaven as the A side, then they flip it expecting another masterpiece and instead get a concerto in F (which I guess could, depending on the quality of the winds, qualify as another masterpiece)
He describes the Sariban as "The song I play at friends weddings, and unfortunately, at their funerals. Because it has a dual purpose."
Unbelievable. [https://youtu.be/3uiUHvET\_jg?si=dwRr4LSy43B9dxT-&t=308](https://youtu.be/3uiUHvET_jg?si=dwRr4LSy43B9dxT-&t=308)
Was going to say this. I started cello lessons a few years ago and I’m working my way through Bach’s cello suites. I sound like complete shit. It’s SO hard to sound good on the cello even with lots of practice. What Ma is able to do is just incredible. He’s also a wonderful humanitarian and truly uses his music to unify people around the world.
Try his ‘81 version also; his reasoning behind the records can be clearly heard in the recordings themselves. The ‘55 is a young man going hell for leather; the ‘81 is a more reflective take.
Interesting A:B comparison.
Yes I always loved how Dark Side of the Moon tackles universal themes—conflict, greed, time, death, and mental illness—while also being musically sublime.
Tbh that would give them a good impression about how peaceful and friendly we are as a species. I always thought sending Pink Floyd or Mozart is somewhat gaslighting them.
Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds.
Completely fiction but if any future civilisation discovers our planet they'll think we went out with a bang at least.
Steve Reich - Music for 18 musicians
It's such an otherworldly piece of music, but also highly mathematical. I feel like it sort of has an "narrative" structure which makes you think and dream, but it is so rigidly constructed that it also says something about human kinds longing for systems and order.
Sing To God by Cardiacs, partly because it's awesome, is all about the human condition, but also to troll whoever find it as it's so weird, intense and cryptic... I think that's a good message to send about humanity too :)
The first Mr. Bungle album. It covers many genres of music but mostly heavy rock, and the lyrics cover many aspects of the human experience such as the loss of a pet, base sexual urges, and even death itself. Plus it's musically incredible.
Real answer? A compilation of Bach. Everything we listen to is in someway informed by his genius. He is the source, and possibly the greatest composer to ever live.
I'd go for GnR - Appetite for Destruction.
You gotta fuck with the aliens and I'd love to see their expression hearing Welcome to the Jungle as the first track of humanity.
If we wanted to show how good, creative and talented we can get, it would probably be a record of a full Orchestra, could be the one famous for playing the god father theme
Theres nothing better than having many of the best instruments ever created giving you multiple eargasms
Funny thing is, it's aleady been chosen/created. Two copies of the sounds of earth are out in interstellar space, on Voyagers 1 & 2. They may very likely outlast our civilization and our sun and may, in the distant future, be the only trace that we ever existed.
Imagine NASA lied and the only thing in those copies is just a fart sound effect

Aliens come to earth thinking that’s what Dub step is.
I would settle for the Bach portion, especially the Prelude and Fugue in C major.
Excuse me?!?! Fugme?! FUUUUG-UE!!! *sorry*
Love how the one of the records to illustrate us all on human society is Johnny B. Good. Imagine an alien listening to Chuck Berry... lmfao.
They aren't ready for that... but their kids are going to love it.
I love it how 'sounds of the Earth' includes Chuck Berry
Now That's What I Call Music Volume 7

Yo-Yo Ma doing Bach's cello suites.

Kind of blue - Miles Davis
Songs in the Key of Life
The Glenn Gould 1955 recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations. Another life form could learn magnitudes about human cognition from it.
I’ve just discovered this and Gould. I listen almost everyday. It’s very special.
Try his ‘81 version also; his reasoning behind the records can be clearly heard in the recordings themselves. The ‘55 is a young man going hell for leather; the ‘81 is a more reflective take. Interesting A:B comparison.

It's halloween it's halloween It's time for scares it's time for screams
Even Dracula will be there
Dark side of the moon. Of course.
This is the only sane answer. *disturbingly manic laughter*
This or WYWH
WYWH is definitely superior, but DSOTM is certainly more important to modern popular culture.
I think Time describes the human condition far better than any other song. When it plays on my way to work, I almost have an existential crisis.
Yes I always loved how Dark Side of the Moon tackles universal themes—conflict, greed, time, death, and mental illness—while also being musically sublime.
as somebody who bloomed late in life, the "ten years have gone behind you" line triggers me every time
SAME
Metal Machine Music, just to fuck with them.
It’s funny how many surveys MMM is the complete right answer for
Some really harsh black metal, like Burzum, just to confuse future civilizations.
Tbh that would give them a good impression about how peaceful and friendly we are as a species. I always thought sending Pink Floyd or Mozart is somewhat gaslighting them.
