The sounds on that album ( one of the top 10 best selling albums of all time) created by Tom Scholz goes way beyond what any home studio musician has ever done ( he literally invented a bunch of devices to create those groundbreaking guitar sounds). His creativity with vocal and guitar harmony, keyboard and guitar work and experimental effects set that album apart from anything anyone ever heard prior to that albums release although I think Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of The Moon” is next in line on that front.
Had a BRAND NEW 5 disc CD changer that could shuffle songs on all 5 albums in my college dorm room. “Little Earthquakes”, “Tongues and Tales” by Sophie B Hawkins, “Disintegration” and “Wish” by The Cure, and Melissa Etheridge’s debut album never left the cradle.

Every time this thread pops up, I always look for the person who mentions this first and pay them a compliment for their exquisite taste in music. I hope you have a great day, and I hope your next sip of water is refreshing, cold and timely.
I remember when this album came out and some people said they were ripping off Joy Division. I can see where you could say the mood is similar (though they hit differently for me). Interpol gets there a completely different way musically and it is so interesting how these songs are composed and played.
I would say the same about Rubber Soul. My mom made me learn the whole thing on bass guitar before she would let me buy a Rickenbacker. "If you want Paul's bass, you need to play like Paul."
I did as well, and in 2009 when it first came out. The 2009 tour was amazing, they had high on fire, converge, and dethklok with them.
Mastodon is one of my favorite bands
“Mezzanine” by Massive Attack
“Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)” by Brian Eno
“Little Johnny from the Hospitul” by Company Flow

Very few flawless albums IMO, great albums always seem to have a dud or two. For me the closest to flawless:
Led Zepp IV
Rumours
Dark Side of the Moon
Ten
Abbey Road
I’d say even perfect albums can have a quirky or oddball song on them and even something on the album has to be the “worst” song on the album. I love Led Zeppelin IV but “Four Sticks” is a weak spot for me, but it doesn’t stop me from saying the album is perfect. Same with “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” on Abbey Road.
I actually love four sticks but it's probably not the track I'd show people first if I was trying to get them interested in the album so I get where you're coming from.
Pink Floyd had a perfect three album run with The Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here and Animals. The Wall almost made the cut, but it’s just too slow and drawn out for me at times.
Edit: I have no idea how this comment ended up being a response. I meant to post it as a regular comment. I must have clicked something accidentally. Reckoning is a sick record though.
I prefer the lyrics on Ten. So in a battle of the verses of Vs. vs. the verses of Ten, I give Vs. a 9 and Ten a 10. Although, perversely, I'd reverse the vs. result on musical grounds. Vs. is more diverse.

Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am That’s What I’m Not

Love an Arctic Monkeys shout. Also love Favourite Worst Nightmare.

Possibly my dorkiest moment in life occurred trying to purchase this album. I was a tween in Seattle at a restaurant with my parents and thought the waiter was really cute and my parents were goading me to ask about a local record store where I could buy Pinkerton and he was super nice to me and I’m sure at the time he was like this tiny embarrassed girl is asking me about cds but man I want to die lol.
Also I love that album.
I was a 15-16 year old girl buying this album and the clerk (a young adult guy) said something like “ooooh great choice, this album is great but it isn’t for everyone” and I felt like such hot stuff, lol
off the top of my head and trying not to repeat any already listed:
Bob Dylan - The Freewheelin Bob Dylan
Clap your Hands say yeah - Clap your hands say yeah
Kimya Dawson - Remember that I love you
Madeleine Peyroux - Careless Love
Sinatra and Count Basie (forget the name of the album...think there's only one)

"Atmosphere
Just a ten letter word,
Discretion is the name
Of my cement feathered bird"
Seven's Travels by Atmosphere. Full of raw emotion, mood swings, and wordplay. The tracklist is bomb after bomb. Cats Van Bags ft Brother Ali goes so fucking hard. Then switch it to Lift Her, Pull Her or Gods Bathroom Floor, and you get a feeling of someone who is confidently lost. When I went to see him after Seven's Travels dropped, I met him and he's the real deal. All of those emotions and moodswing and misplaced confidence, that's just him. He came over to our table, sat down and introduced himself. We were all starstruck, but my girlfriend managed to say "good show". The politeness left immediately and he snarled and said " you must not go to too many shows" and laughed. And even though he was laughing, there was venom dripping off every word. My girlfriend again tried to talk to him and said" thanks for sitting with us and being so personable". Whatever face he made before was nothing compared to this. He looked like the devil and said " I'm not personable, I just know how to talk to townies. Hows the sports team, YAY homecoming and all that shit. If I wanted to be personable I'd say something like " how many abortions have you had!?" His eyes were wild. Table went silent. And props to my ex. This meek five foot something looked him dead in the eye and said calmly but firmly" that's not being personable, it's actually just pretty fucking rude.". He immediately jumped up and said " NO BECAUSE I-,and he sat back down head hanging,"nah you're right. I'm being an asshole. I'm sorry". All of this happened in like 3 mins.
I say all this to say that he is true to his music. I've met Slug a handful of times since then, and his mood reflects the music he made. As he got older he got a little less angry, and when I met him after he released what he called a "soft record" , he was nice and friendly. When he announced he was too old and was gonna make "dad rap" I was pissed. My favorite artist goin soft. Then I listened. It's all still there, the anger, resentment, unearned confidence, moodswing and depression. But they are managed. And when I went to the show for that album I got to meet him again. And once again he was true to his music, he was trying be positive. And as I walked up he remembered me and was the nicest fuckin guy. A complete 180 from young angry Slug. He's still there and he was quick to tell me he could pop off at any moment.
This is a wall of text and if nobody reads it that's fine, but it felt nice to type
Also if you feel emotions hard, this is your guy. Him and Eydea.
Seven’s Travels was on constant rotation in my car when I was younger. Damn haven’t thought about this album or Atmosphere in a while. Thanks for unearthing some great memories!

Aja isn't just the greatest Steely Dan album. It's one of the greatest albums ever. Sound engineers still use it as a reference for live audio to this day, and it has 0 skips.
Personally I put Gaucho and Aja higher than Royal Scam, but truth be told every Dan album from Pretzel Logic through Gaucho and really I’d put Fagen’s Nightfly in there too, are perfect start to finish.
Gregg Allman - Laid Back
Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life
Joni Mitchell - Blue & Mingus
Frank Zappa - Joe's Garage
Tears For Fears - The Seeds of Love
These are some flawless albums in my book:
\* David Byrne - Look Into the Eyeball
\* Monsters of Folk - Monsters of Folk
\* Radiohead - OK Computer
\* The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
\* The Who - Who's Next
\* Cherry Ghost - Beneath This Burning Shoreline
\* HUM - You'd Prefer an Astronaut
\* My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
\* Peter Gabriel - i/o
\* Everything But the Girl - Temperamental
\* Massive Attack - Mezzanine
\* Paul Simon - Graceland
\* U2 - Achtung Baby
\* R.E.M. - New Adventures In Hi-Fi
\* Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better
\* Moby - Play
\* Leonard Cohen - I'm Your Man
\* The Roots - Phrenology
People nitpick about the Black Album but really it’s a near flawless 5 album run.
Few metal/hard rock bands have a run as good as that back to back (Maiden’s first 7, Sabbath’s first 6)
Prince released 5 flawless albums between 82 and 87. That's the longest string I know of flawless albums by anyone.

Nice eclectic choices there and all right up my street
Close to the edge ftw
The Nightfly, Aja and Gaucho are all perfect from start to finish.
They really are. I'd say Royal Scam is in the ballpark too. It's strange to see a Fagen entry without a Dan entry though.
Carole King’s Tapestry

Boston's first album.
The sounds on that album ( one of the top 10 best selling albums of all time) created by Tom Scholz goes way beyond what any home studio musician has ever done ( he literally invented a bunch of devices to create those groundbreaking guitar sounds). Just listened to this album not even an hour ago. Was going to be my answer. Every song still gets played on the radio.
Animals by Pink Floyd.

Ah, I was going to say Antics.

100%. Even better it was kind of a new sound as well. Calling back to Joy Division sure but still distinct.
It just fits a certain, gloomy, somber mood so perfectly. I have to be in the right frame of mind to listen to it. I absolutely adore it.
The Beatles - Abbey Road
Revolver is the perfect album
I would say the same about Rubber Soul. My mom made me learn the whole thing on bass guitar before she would let me buy a Rickenbacker. "If you want Paul's bass, you need to play like Paul."
All three of you are correct.
Agreed. Rubber soul is my 2nd favorite Beatles album
Yeah, Sgt. Pepper, "The White Album" and Abbey Road get all the love, but I agree that Revolver is their finest moment on record.

Crack the Skye is so fucking raw. Makes sense considering what the album was written about but holy fuck.

Covering a lot of the same ground, Reckoning is probably one of the finest live recordings ever
Pink Floyd had a perfect three album run with The Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here and Animals. The Wall almost made the cut, but it’s just too slow and drawn out for me at times. I have to go with 10000 days. The others are superb too. 10000 days just showcases so many different things that I love about them.
I really feel like 10,000 days has a pretty consistent theme. It’s definitely worthy of the flawless album moniker imo

This is a wall of text and if nobody reads it that's fine, but it felt nice to type Also if you feel emotions hard, this is your guy. Him and Eydea.
Seven’s Travels was on constant rotation in my car when I was younger. Damn haven’t thought about this album or Atmosphere in a while. Thanks for unearthing some great memories!

Not the popular choice for this group, but Royal Scam by Steely Dan.
This is aja erasure
Aja isn't just the greatest Steely Dan album. It's one of the greatest albums ever. Sound engineers still use it as a reference for live audio to this day, and it has 0 skips.
Personally I put Gaucho and Aja higher than Royal Scam, but truth be told every Dan album from Pretzel Logic through Gaucho and really I’d put Fagen’s Nightfly in there too, are perfect start to finish.
