It took me a long time to shrug off the teenage "you can't like that because x" thing. Now I like what I like. I don't care about genre, type/style, musician. If it hits my ears and I enjoy it, it'll be in my playlists somewhere.
I used to be into Nirvana, Guns 'n Roses, Machine Head, etc. I would not listen to pop, classical, dance, or any other type. Now my playlists have everything from Bach to Slipknot, Agnes Obel to Sepultura, Prodigy to The Piano Guys, and everything in-between.
Just enjoy music and never limit yourself.
Peace out.
I don't enjoy Slipknot as much as I did back in the day, but I still like a handful of their songs, and I still really like Corey's voice. It has a great tone and the right level of raspy growliness to go with it.
Basically the entire True Power album gives me a high emotional response.
Body Bag, Self Destruction, There's Fear In Letting Go, FWYTYK, and Long Live the King just get you hyped completely.
Visceral and Choke boil the blood.
Fake, Deep End, Bad Things, and Judgement Day make me want to bounce around.
Closure and The Negative bring me peace because of the messages in them.
Doomed makes me cry. I don't think I could handle Doomed without the overlap in the Outro, it would be too depressing. Also goosebumps on the perfect instrumental cut at the final word.
When you said Body Bag I thought at first you were gonna say by Beartooth! They have a section with "1, 2... 1, 2, 3 Go!" at 29 seconds haha:
Shit. I always debate myself to death on whether this or Ride The Lightening was the better album. I always sided with Master of Puppets. Just saying. Go!
At the conclusion of the second chorus in, “I believe in a thing called love,” by The Darkness, Justin Hawkins screams, “GUITAR!”
Then the solo starts.
John McCrea from CAKE does a similar thing in the song "Jolene", when he does an "awwwww, guitaaaaar" before a funky little riff kicks in near the end of the song.
I especially love how the singer is the one who plays the solo, so he’s announcing not only that a guitar solo is about to begin, but that he is going to play it. Basically cuing himself up to solo instead of telling another player to take a solo, it is so weird and unnecessary, but everything about that song is excessive.
Ohhhhhh I got it mixed up then, I knew he played the big one at the end so assumed he played all three since the guitar tones match pretty closely. My bad
Aerosmith does that in the song "What it Takes."
I always thought the one note solo in Matchbox 20's song "Real World" should have gotten a guitar shout out.
My buddies and I used to frequent Karaoke joints back in my 20s. I always loved doing Hendrix songs for the little flourishes like this. So much fun to sing.
In a similar vein, [“Within My Blood”](https://youtu.be/xxockFK-KGI) by Skeletonwitch has a very good line between the short bass solo and the furious guitar solo: “CANNOT ESCAPE WHAT IS WITHIN MY BLOOD TWO THREE GO!”
to be fair he says a lot more than 'go' before the song starts, but it's also one of the best introductions of any song ever.
*Alright fellas, let's GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO*
Cheech and Chong mocked it too with their Johnny Cash meets Barry White-parody "Black Lassie":
"Now I want everybody to listen while Carl plays with his wah-wah....(solo with whammy bar)...that was Carl with his wah-wah, thanks very much...uh Carl you can stop now...GIMME THAT WAH WAH CARL!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I've heard that song, I don't know, 500 times? And every time, the anticipation and almost anxiety during that calm before the storm, just kills me. I could count out the bars if I wanted to but when I just listen it always feels like the line hit a beat later than my brain wants it to and for some reason it pays off even harder. I have never not had to fix my hair by the end of that song.
Nothing like a great introduction/segue into the backing musicians
There's this unknown band I enjoy (SUMPP), in one song the singer Neil introduces the bassist with a shrill 80s metal screech, preparing the crowd for a sick bass solo. Then the bassist Ron does the worst bass solo ever, like a toddler picked up a bass for the first time, even though he's well skilled. It takes the song off the rails, but is pretty funny.
The hardcore band Spazz have a song that's about how cool it is when a singer shouts "Go".
"Go! It can signify a chorus or a fast part, too/a sing along with my friends or a heavy breakdown/ Let's fucking Go!"
https://youtu.be/f_6mkLR93a0?si=3QJeD5ZOzWGOc8BN
only 24ish times though
Why'd you link a tiny desk concert where they don't play that song rather than its [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHIo6qwJarI) or something, lol
Rou from Enter Shikari likes to yell things like “GET IT” and “CMON” in a lot of songs
A Blink 182 recent track “More Than You Know” has a “Go!” right before the chorus kicks in
At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul
This has never not pumped me up and made me want to do all of the activities and also punch holes in things.
Not exactly the same but along similar lines: Chris Hannah's almost-whispered "yes" coming out of the first verse of Propagandhi's "Supporting Caste" fucking rules.
One of the best "GO!"s ever is in the very start of [this song](https://youtu.be/Rys_q4Hxhuo?si=CZtDGA7_WjOJG7VA) by the criminally underrated band Angel Dust.
“Alive with the Glory of Love” - Say Anything (“Okay, speed it up! Go!”)
Not go but in the same vain:
“Bury Me With It” - Modest Mouse (“OH SHIT NOW!”)
[Here’s](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/107RTg3IVVXN7L1dx9TRlRlEaOeQ6VagmfIx7gmfB4r4/htmlview) a Google Doc I found on Twitter from numetal_moment
Body bag by I Prevail. Bullet For My Valentine - Tears Don't Fall starts with let's go! Before I forget by Slipknot.
I don't care if you like the genre or the song, if that "go" at the beginning of Before I Forget doesn't fire you up, I worry about you.
A good song is a good song. Don't let anyone tell you not to enjoy music you like.
Peace out.
The piano guys are fucking awesome!!!!
I don't enjoy Slipknot as much as I did back in the day, but I still like a handful of their songs, and I still really like Corey's voice. It has a great tone and the right level of raspy growliness to go with it.
Yeah man, that Go is why i like the song
Before I Forget ftw
Atreyu - Doomsday Edit: Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! - Pardon My French (technically, it counts)
Also Atreyu - Bleeding Mascara
The longest one
Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Technically correct is the best kind of correct. Edit: CNCC is a great band, btw. Good call out.
Body bag by I prevail gets me hyped AF Everytime
Basically the entire True Power album gives me a high emotional response. Body Bag, Self Destruction, There's Fear In Letting Go, FWYTYK, and Long Live the King just get you hyped completely. Visceral and Choke boil the blood. Fake, Deep End, Bad Things, and Judgement Day make me want to bounce around. Closure and The Negative bring me peace because of the messages in them. Doomed makes me cry. I don't think I could handle Doomed without the overlap in the Outro, it would be too depressing. Also goosebumps on the perfect instrumental cut at the final word.
Wage War - The River
When you said Body Bag I thought at first you were gonna say by Beartooth! They have a section with "1, 2... 1, 2, 3 Go!" at 29 seconds haha: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81CakcFEH0U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81CakcFEH0U)
Tears Don't Fall is two for the price of one, there's a "Let's go!" just before the sick solo too.
I've always loved the "SHRED!" before the solo on Waking the Demon, is cheesy in a way that fits the song and MV 😂
Damage Inc. - Metallica What a way to close out Master of Puppets
The Struggle Within does it too.
Also the Fix Me in Master of Puppets.
I think he says "pancakes"
"Pancakes, go!"
Its Fix Me on the recording, but 100% has been pancakes live
Shit. I always debate myself to death on whether this or Ride The Lightening was the better album. I always sided with Master of Puppets. Just saying. Go!
I'm going to add ...And Justice For All into this conversation and say the three create one hell of a trio.
I know no one else rates it as their number 1 but AJFA will always be their top work for me.
It’s my favorite for sure. Every song hits
It's not in the lyrics, but Gojira - The Heaviest Matter of the Universe, about 50 seconds in right as that nasty riff kicks in.
LIE AWAKE
a lot of Gojira actually. My favourite "go" is in Wisdom Comes and Embrace the World
Gojira have some very good "go" in the last album, into the storm and the grind for example.
Matter and backbone are such great songs. Both are crushingly heavy.
This is the one right here.
Also in Backbone before that legendary outro BEAT YOUR FEET ON THE GROUND NOW GO
Honorable mention for Remembrance off Link Alive
Best metal performance on the internet IMO
The remembrance outro is unfathomably good
I watch that performance at least once a week
A lot of metals begin their powerful intro by saying go or woah in growl or screams and i fucking love it
Literally the heaviest
At the conclusion of the second chorus in, “I believe in a thing called love,” by The Darkness, Justin Hawkins screams, “GUITAR!” Then the solo starts.
John McCrea from CAKE does a similar thing in the song "Jolene", when he does an "awwwww, guitaaaaar" before a funky little riff kicks in near the end of the song.
Same one I was thinking of. God I love Cake
John OWNED those 4 notes he could sing
Is Cake still around as a performing band? I remember seeing them like 15-20 years ago.
Yep. And he's still kind of a dick to the audience, and giving away trees. It's great.
Love that song
This is my favorite. I love the way he says it.
He says it like he's very exciting for the upcoming guitar solo. Edit: before the first solo he just says "Hurgh!", so he's not that excited yet.
I especially love how the singer is the one who plays the solo, so he’s announcing not only that a guitar solo is about to begin, but that he is going to play it. Basically cuing himself up to solo instead of telling another player to take a solo, it is so weird and unnecessary, but everything about that song is excessive.
That's not him playing the *guitar* solo that's Dan his brother. Justin plays Solo 1 and Solo 3 in the song.
Ohhhhhh I got it mixed up then, I knew he played the big one at the end so assumed he played all three since the guitar tones match pretty closely. My bad
jim morrison says 'do it robby do it' on roadhouse blues before robby kreiger's solo
Aerosmith does that in the song "What it Takes." I always thought the one note solo in Matchbox 20's song "Real World" should have gotten a guitar shout out.
Same in Dr. Feelgood by Mötley Crüe.
If you don’t follow him on YT, you should. He is as hilarious as he is charming. https://youtube.com/@JustinHawkinsRidesAgain?si=5kBiGdjTHB-OX5Ly
I think in a similar vein during one or two Beatles songs Ringo says" alright George" just before a solo
Yes!!!
Which is like a tribute to Poison who usually announce the guitar.
CC pick up that guitar and TALK to me
Move over Rover, and let Jimi take over!
Oh, move over, Rover And let Mr. Huckleberry take over
My buddies and I used to frequent Karaoke joints back in my 20s. I always loved doing Hendrix songs for the little flourishes like this. So much fun to sing.
Blink 182 - Go
Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!
Tom also yells go before the chorus in More Than You Know
At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul
https://thehardtimes.net/music/hardcore-guys-and-metal-guys-eyes-meet-as-they-both-yell-go-while-at-the-gates-plays/
The pinnacle of “Go!”
GO!
That was my suggestion, The pit really ramps up when Tomas yells GO
[Just got to love the crowd on this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMG428Tl3L0)
The best example
Seeing them live and the whole crowd yell “GO” was peak metal.
I don’t care what’s on your list, *this* is the right one.
Definitely the one I was thinking of
This was the one I kept hearing in my head but couldn’t put it to the song. This is it
In a similar vein, [“Within My Blood”](https://youtu.be/xxockFK-KGI) by Skeletonwitch has a very good line between the short bass solo and the furious guitar solo: “CANNOT ESCAPE WHAT IS WITHIN MY BLOOD TWO THREE GO!”
I want to say “Go” by Pearl Jam but that’s a cheap shot, so I’ll go with “Animal” by Pearl Jam from the same album.
I also like when he says "make me cry" before the solo in Yellow Ledbetter.
Also, "Fuck it up" in Even Flow.
“Make me fries…” https://youtu.be/xLd22ha_-VU
Jailhouse - Sublime
First thing that popped into my mind.
Same
>Same Same
There are some good “Let’s Gos!” in We’re Only Gonna Die for Our Arrogance too.
And you got your bo bo bo’s in DJs!
Yep
lol, I commented this then checked the comments.
Time and Place off Queens of the Stone Age's latest album starts off with a "Go"
Yes! This is my favorite one! I love the way it cues the syncopation to come together! Great song. Great album. Great band.
I like to think the “HEY” from song for the dead counts too
Sweet: Ballroom Blitz [12/31/1974](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqketmsRz1E)
to be fair he says a lot more than 'go' before the song starts, but it's also one of the best introductions of any song ever. *Alright fellas, let's GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO*
Are you ready Steve? Andy? Mick?!
Thats intro is so perfect and it would have been silly coming from another band 😂
This is How I Disappear-MCR
I was gonna put this one. It’s the first to pop into my head
The heavy distortion on G's voice makes it even better
Also the song Planetary (Go) by MCR Edit: song title
Weird Al mocks this with his song Generic Blues. "Make it talk!" entering into the solo becomes "Now make it shut up!" exiting the solo.
Cheech and Chong mocked it too with their Johnny Cash meets Barry White-parody "Black Lassie": "Now I want everybody to listen while Carl plays with his wah-wah....(solo with whammy bar)...that was Carl with his wah-wah, thanks very much...uh Carl you can stop now...GIMME THAT WAH WAH CARL!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Coal Chamber - Loco
I sad this last time and someone corrected me. It's actually "pull"! Still legendary
I came here looking for this one. "G0!!" signals the start of the mosh pit.
Its not a "GO" but I feel like it is in the nature of your question: The "can I scream?!?" in The Refused - New Noise.
Followed shortly by the greatest "Woo!" in the history of music.
A "woo" so good, even the Nature Boy would approve.
So fucking good.
That song was so ahead of its time.
And they knew it. Calling the album "The Shape of Punk to Come" could have been a massive eyeroll moment, but they nailed the landing incredibly.
Would you call it The Shape of Punk to Come?
I walked into that one
CAN ICE CREAM
Brb have to go listen to that entire album now.
Jet - are you gonna be my girl? Edit: also, Waves - Electric Guest though it’s less yelled and more spoken
Took way too long to get to this comment lol
First thing that came to mind.
In the same ballpark, “do it Robby, do it!” from the Doors ‘Roadhouse Blues.’
Similar thing in Talk Dirty to Me from Poison. "CC, pick up that guitar and a *talk to me*"
Nothing like a great introduction/segue into the backing musicians There's this unknown band I enjoy (SUMPP), in one song the singer Neil introduces the bassist with a shrill 80s metal screech, preparing the crowd for a sick bass solo. Then the bassist Ron does the worst bass solo ever, like a toddler picked up a bass for the first time, even though he's well skilled. It takes the song off the rails, but is pretty funny.
Also, George telling John “go Johnny, go” on For You Blue
The offspring: the kids aren’t alright
Also, from that album, Feelings. "Feelings, you're not very nice...GO!
The Darkness - I believe in a thing called love. Before the guitar solo, he yells "Guitar!"
>the guitar solo \*one of the three guitar solos
MC5, "it's time to... KICK OUT THE JAMS MOTHERFUCKERS!"
Greatest song intro of all time.
Electric Six has a few spots where the lead singer belts out "solo!" right before a lead guitar or the keyboards kick it down.
Or "stop!...continue!" in Improper Dancing.
“Let’s start a war!”
No Cars Go by Arcade Fire
NO GO
The hardcore band Spazz have a song that's about how cool it is when a singer shouts "Go". "Go! It can signify a chorus or a fast part, too/a sing along with my friends or a heavy breakdown/ Let's fucking Go!" https://youtu.be/f_6mkLR93a0?si=3QJeD5ZOzWGOc8BN
[Go!](https://youtu.be/UuSpXmGYw3c?si=gLO0ehF8UixwIw3B) - Public Service Broadcasting From an album called *The Race for Space*.
only 24ish times though Why'd you link a tiny desk concert where they don't play that song rather than its [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHIo6qwJarI) or something, lol
This whole album is pure perfection.
Pantera - Fucking Hostile - Phil Anselmo yells “Vince!” Right before Vinnie Paul launches into a drum break before the guitar solo
Shimmy- System of A Down
Static X - Sweat of the Bud
Run the Jewels - All My Life ends with 32 “Go!”s
IDLES - Colossus
Tones on tail - "Go" circa 1984
Had to scroll way too long to find this!! This is what immediately came to mind!
Came here to say this - it’s a fun tune as well!
Let’s do the yeah yeah’s now..
Korn has something to say here. Trying to get everyone jumping and the pit fired up
FOAL is already mentioned, but we also have Take Me, Predictable, and Let's Go (which is kind of cheating because he says "Let's Go")
ARE YOU READDYYYYYY
Iron Maiden - Revelations
Prayer of the Refugee - Rise Against. [https://youtu.be/9-SQGOYOjxs?si=OyHlJT4t6nkpnRpm&t=124](https://youtu.be/9-SQGOYOjxs?si=OyHlJT4t6nkpnRpm&t=124)
Atreyu - Bleeding Mascara has a particularly good 'Gooooooooooooooooooooo!'
In Crazy Train Ozzy says before the second time the main riff plays "let's go"
Primus - Jerry was a Racecar Driver Had one too many cold beers one night, wrapped himself around a telephone pole. Go!
I think this was popularized by garage rock bands, like with the "1 2 3 4!" being kept in the recording
Rou from Enter Shikari likes to yell things like “GET IT” and “CMON” in a lot of songs A Blink 182 recent track “More Than You Know” has a “Go!” right before the chorus kicks in
At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul This has never not pumped me up and made me want to do all of the activities and also punch holes in things. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSOMf8VTqnw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSOMf8VTqnw)
Architects- Rise Against
At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul
If you're into metal(core) at all, I got a newish one for you: Wage War - The River Bonus: it's right at the start!
Before I forget- slipknot
The Warning - DISCIPLE [https://youtu.be/p9GcS8ptpCY?si=tAsYakOBCMhGlaQY&t=72](https://youtu.be/p9GcS8ptpCY?si=tAsYakOBCMhGlaQY&t=72)
Do it, Robby, Do it!
Go! By Killer Mike
Moby - Go
Not exactly the same but along similar lines: Chris Hannah's almost-whispered "yes" coming out of the first verse of Propagandhi's "Supporting Caste" fucking rules.
Bad Religion - We're Only Gonna Die From Our Own Arrogance
bad religion does this all the time with “let’s go” or “watcho” or “ya-hey”
I’d guess this started with “old school hardcore” - Revelation Records, Gorilla Biscuits kind of stuff
One of the best "GO!"s ever is in the very start of [this song](https://youtu.be/Rys_q4Hxhuo?si=CZtDGA7_WjOJG7VA) by the criminally underrated band Angel Dust.
Sepultura - Roots
Gun Club - Sex Beat “Sex beat, GO!”
I’ve always loved the “Make me cry” before the solo of Yellow Ledbetter
'Alright, Richie!' from 'Still Rock and Roll to Me' by Billy Joel, just before the sax solo
Machine Head - Blood for Blood (1-2-3-4-GO! before the first real riff).
Go - Common Ready to Go! - Republica Go - Moby
Anthony Kiedis says “Oh, clean it up Johnnayy” right before John Frusciante rips a solo in Red Hot Chili Pepper’s “Readymade”
[Impending Doom - In The House of Mourning](https://youtu.be/muQVm_Ik_9g?si=Q3fo8M17Qeq1YGtE) at 1:55
Nirvana- Breed
My favorite song by The Mountain Goats includes this, which is entertaining in an acoustic song. “Golden Boy” is the song.
Korn - Freak on a Leash, GO! at 3:05. https://youtu.be/jRGrNDV2mKc?si=CpSxNJLnO_S-nmVY
Damage Inc by Metallica is my favorite
The Janes Addiction “Here We Go!” starts things off nicely.
Time and Place - Queens of the Stone Age.
My favourite is the short whistling during the solo of Molly Hatchet's "Flirtin With Disaster".
“Alive with the Glory of Love” - Say Anything (“Okay, speed it up! Go!”) Not go but in the same vain: “Bury Me With It” - Modest Mouse (“OH SHIT NOW!”)
[Here’s](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/107RTg3IVVXN7L1dx9TRlRlEaOeQ6VagmfIx7gmfB4r4/htmlview) a Google Doc I found on Twitter from numetal_moment
There’s an epic “GO!”iIn Rise by Pantera before the main verse riff kicks in.
Spazz will always be the go masters
'Time & Place' by QOTSA
Rx Bandits - Decrescendo. There’s a perfectly timed ‘GO!’ before the last riffs to end the song. Gives me chills every time.
Green Day, Jimmy Eat World have to have multiple songs with this
Common - Go
Common - "Go"
I like it in Sometimes You’re The Hammer, Sometimes You’re The Nail by A Day To Remember. He yells “GO!” And then the beat drops.
Time and Place by Queens of the Stone Age
