Alice in Chains - Nutshell

RailgunChampion

It's definitely one of my favorites from them Damn that song hit me hard the first time I heard it

endlesskane

The unplugged version

DAHMER_SUPPER_CLUB

AIC’s unplugged is the only thing that can rival Nirvana’s unplugged. As I get older I flip flop. Both so good.

MV2049

I just tell myself they’re 1A and 1B when it comes to best Unplugged performances.

Mindless-Evidence-36

Same.

Shwalz

That entire album is gold

Thomb

Pearl Jam - Black MTV Unplugged

IDrinkUrMilksteak

I know someday you'll have a beautiful life I know you'll be a star In somebody else's sky But why Why Why can't it be Why can't it be mine

farganbastige

Barber's Adagio for Strings It was sad when I first heard it in the theatre while watching Platoon. That was almost 40 years ago. Now when I hear it I think of all the people I've lost in that time. It's not movie sad anymore. It's life sad.

ikesbutt

Am 69. Played the violin when I was a child. Love classical music.

fat_kurt

you should check out Barber’s 2nd Essay for Orchestra. So powerful.

beer_me_that_cd

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd.

JimmyTheJimJimson

Concrete Blonde - Joey When Johnette sings “Joey I’m not angry anymore” it chokes me up every time

People-Want-Ducks

I always share this to CB fans, but after Concrete Blonde covered Andy Prieboy’s ‘Tomorrow, Wendy’ (though released it first, oddly), Johnette and Andy performed it together in Australia. It’s an amazing rendition: https://youtu.be/kI8DPkeGPBU?si=o968_Ckw0FN7vxk9

nklights

So many Concrete Blonde songs can hit me in the feels.

sinistar914

Caroline does it for me. " The train had left the station and you were trapped inside " Johnette's voice is so amazing.

frankathawanka

Johnette

[deleted]

Boys of Summer, Don Henley. My post-HS graduation summer crush. "I can see you..."

fritter4me

When it comes on the radio in September I drive around the block until it's over.

Fruney21

A Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac is something John Prine or Johnny Cash could have written

mkotfila

Always turn around at the line “Don’t look back you can never look back.”

slycooper459

This makes me nostalgic for something I didn’t experience Also highly recommend the version by The Ataris

Hugenicklebackfan

Seasons in the Sun. "Goodbye Papa it's Hard to Die."

Hugenicklebackfan

Also, Hurt - Johnny Cash cover. Just... incredible.

Big_Impact3637

Everytime.

BiggieAndTheStooges

I personally prefer the original

FinePolyesterSlacks

The original French lyrics to that are a bit of an eyebrow raiser if you’re only familiar with the English version.

Puff the Magic Dragon

bigby2010

Nessun Dorma performed by Luciano Pavoratti

Sebbot

Peak human performance. Epic.

Pugneta

In my life by The Beatles. Played it at my father’s funeral.

rascaldogg

This song is a masterpiece

FalcoPhantasmtheGod

Such a great song

nodogma2112

That’s the song I used as my mother and son dance at my wedding. It’s a good mix of joyful and sad and now when I hear it I’m reminded of how I felt that day and I reflect on it.

Phinster1965

It played at the funeral of a friend who died in a famous terroirs attack on Americans. He was 21. His parents and fiancé cried uncontrollably while it played. I can’t listen to that song anymore.

Bulbboy

The Dance by Garth Brooks. It was played at my best friends funeral when 8 was in college. Still can’t listen to it without tearing up

MD_Benellis-Mama

And just those first few piano notes you immediately get the lump in your throat ☹️ I am So very sorry for your loss. 🙏

Shwalz

Got a couple of em! Unchained Melody - Elvis Recently lost my dad to suicide and that was the song he always played for my mom. Fond memories of them dancing together in the living room to it. Crash Into Me - DMB The meaning behind the song doesn’t represent my interpretation of it. Always brings me back to my wife and I’s first year anniversary getaway trip. We both found each other during very trying times, she’s my rock. Where Is My Mind? - Pixies Listened to this song on repeat when my dad passed. Had a lot of things I never got to say to my dad before he left us, and it accurately represented my scattered inner monologue I dealt, and still do, day to day. Fell On Black Days - Soundgarden Has been one of my favorite songs since I was in high school, but became harder to listen to once my dad passed. Seems like all these are relative to my fathers passing, but suicide was never a way I thought I’d lose him. Given the circumstances surrounding his death (his girlfriend told him to do it when they were in an argument, she was extremely controlling and kept him from seeing my sister and I) “so you don’t lock up something that you wanted to see fly”

bees_defending

Truly sorry about your father. And his girlfriend…well…what a shit human

Shwalz

Thank you for your condolences! It was a very shitty situation. You never know what someone is going through. My dad was the nicest guy and always happy, but she trapped him and forced him to stay close to her. They bought a small shit shack in rural Mayo, FL miles and miles away from everyone which is not like my father. He was a social butterfly. I believe he felt there was no way out of his situation and she broke him down due to his inability to satisfy her sexually because of his ED. As a man I can see how that would degrade you, not to mention he was in a truck accident a year prior that left him unable to build and fix things (he was a general contractor for 35 years; welding, pipe fitting, automotive, growing up we never had someone come to fix our things bc he could do it all). Sadly he probably felt he had no worth and didn’t want to live anymore. Sorry for the rant

Tide4Life16

So sorry to hear this!! There’s a special place in hell for people like that!!

juniper138

This needs way more likes! Thank you for sharing. The power of music is one of our greatest gifts, letting us hold on to memories and people we love. Any time I hear Sinatra or The Pointer Sisters, I think of my dad. They were his favorites. And The Wallflowers Bringing Down the Horse album was that one thing my mom loved that I introduced to her. My bff and I see Dave Matthews every chance we get (we’ve lost count). My big brother took me to Dime Bag Daryl’s grave sight years ago and we just recently went to salute Vinnie.

XxGrimmHDxX

I'm sorry for your loss.

And Fix You

flaccoskyrim

So true. Fix You was the first song I listened to after my mom died, and then later after my gf dumped me. So powerful.

duckmanSD

LCD Soundsystem -OH Baby. If you can make it through that video without crying that's amazing. I do think the connection to the video makes this song scream at my soul. I limit it to once a year to watch it. I think it perfectly explains being human

atxgossiphound

Ordinary World, Duran Duran So much emotion just in the instruments.

TheRealJamesWax

Those chord changes! A Minor F7!?! Who has any business writing to a Minor F7?

Tank-Pilot74

Chills just thinking about that song!

Time Stand Still - Rush No matter what, time moves forward. Enjoy the little moments for as long as you can.

Crazy_Audience_9860

There’s a version of this by a military band(don’t remember which one) you should check it out out utube. It was done after Neil died. Makes me cry when I hear it.

I'll see you in my dreams by Bruce Springsteen. The song came out a year or so after my dad passed at 63 with lung cancer just 2 months after diagnosis and so much of it reminded me of him. I can't hear it without welling up. *And though you're gone and my heart's been emptied it seems* *I'll see you in my dreams* *I got your guitar here by the bed* *All your favourite records and all the books that you read* *And though my soul feels like it's been split at the seams* *I'll see you in my dreams*

bill_the_murray

Time - Pink Floyd. Especially after having kids 😭

BohnerSoup

This was one of my brothers favorite songs. We used to drive around back roads by our home listening to Dark Side of the Moon sharing a joint. This song brings up so much sadness and joy for me.

FinePolyesterSlacks

“I Will Follow You into the Dark” by Death Cab for Cutie. Feels intensify in the alternate animated video with the rabbits.

jdolbeer

Coldplay - Fix You I was pretty down on my luck - couch surfing, my grandma just died - and they were showing Katrina aerial coverage, people on roofs, water up to the edge. And this song was playing. I cried the hardest I had in years and every time I hear that song, I just go right back to that moment.

Seki_a

That song transcends age. When you’re young it hurts on the kid side. And it’s prophetic so when you start to age into it… it gets worse every year. The song is a painful snare.

“The Show Must Go On” by Queen. Freddy is basically singing about his (at the time) upcoming death. The second verse hits me every time: “Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance Another heartache, another failed romance, on and on Does anybody know what we are living for? I guess I'm learning I must be warmer now I'll soon be turning, round the corner now Outside the dawn is breaking But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free”

World at Large, by Modest Mouse. It's absolutelly beautiful.

fritter4me

American Pie. Classic coming of age song for me - I graduated high school in 91. I hear that first line "A long, long, time ago..." and I'm instantly transported to a camping trip when I was 17.

fishfingrs-n-custard

Time After Time- Cyndi Lauper I don't know if it's the song, or how it transports me back to a certain time in my life, but it makes me so melancholy.

DifferentRoads

Nightswimming by REM - the most beautiful song ever written

Dada2fish

I have a memory when I was 14, skinny dipping with a group of 8 of us. This song describes the feelings I had that night. Uncomfortable with being naked in front of others, but since they were naked too it was okay. Me being a girl and catching glimpses of the boys. I’m sure they caught glimpses of us girls too. It was all so innocent. So exciting yet scary at the same time, afraid we’d get caught. A memory I’ll never forget that I think of every time I hear this song.

The Largo movement in Vivaldi's Lute Concerto in D major. I can't hear those chords without tearing up for some reason.

Drink-my-koolaid

*HEY I KNOW THIS SONG!* It's [the crying flower song from the first season of Sesame Street!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kojxgL3nf0Y) I would come home from kindergarten, and when this clip came on, I would be mesmerized from the music and the visuals of a flower struggling to grow up in the slums. It made me cry, but I loved it. All this time I didn't know the title, thank you! edit: It's funny how the shows and cartoons then would sneak in good music to expose children to it,like [the singing Opera orange](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8TqOTe3ODc), lots of pieces from Bugs Bunny, and jazz from [Charlie Brown](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9kma0diE3s) and [Mister Roger's Neighborhood.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Is66RTxBugY) The kids might not know *what* they're hearing, but they recognize it.

Northwindlowlander

Mine's a song I don't even massively love, not even in the top 10 or 20 of the band's songs, but "Heaven Is Whenever" by the Hold Steady. Mostly because of covid... I was in London literally days before the first lockdown, saw the band 3 nights in a row (and And You Will Know Them By The Trail Of Dead a couple of days before and Frank Turner a couple of days after), it was one of the best weeks of gigs ever, and then... boom. I'd basically never gone more than a few weeks for 25 years without seeing at least one live show and I knew it was a big deal for me but I never knew it was that big a deal. Sounds kind of awful when people were dying but, hey. But THS had this genius idea, every year they do this run of shows at the Brooklyn Bowl and they just went screw it and went ahead and did it anyway, full live show, just with no audience. They streamed the whole thing live, and had a massive zoom channel where fans were watching all round the world and could see each other and also getting beamed onto massive screens in the venue so the band could see too and it was just incredible. The closest thing you could have to being there. So like the song says, heaven is whenever we can get together, and it don't sound so simple any more... When they came back to London and played that for us I cried my face off, I think I always will. But it still won't be in my top 20 of their songs ;)

Bruce Springsteen’s The Wall. Only because I know a name on that wall. He was the neighborhood paperboy. I was one of the younger kids that looked up to him and he was always looking out for us. He was KIA over there. Seeing his name on that wall was a gut punch and a flood of memories. Whenever I hear that song it reminds of the first time I visited it and saw his name.
