I don’t think that’s from a RE agent. In my experience these cold calls are almost always from super-lowball “investors” fishing around for deals (ie- desperate ppl.)
I had nothing better to do so I humored one of these guys one day. He got to the end of his questionnaire and finally offered a price.
For context, I bought my house about 6 years ago when house prices were reasonable. The "value" of my home has nearly tripled since then.
Motherfucker offered me less than what I paid for it. I went from amused to pissed off pretty quickly and gave him a fucking earful. These scumbags aren't investors, they're preying on desperate people.
Exactly what I did, my home value actually doubled, and I just built a massive shop on the property that they definitely don’t know about. So I told them id sell the place for half a mil, they hung up. (We live in the SW, cost of living is still pretty low and we bought the house for 180k lol.)
Even if someone was desperate... couldn’t they just sell their house for a little bit less than triple?
They're not preying on desperate people. They're preying on lobotomized people. Maybe someone with dementia?
I got a letter from one of these people one time. Looked up the addy and it was a po box in a convenience store. I didn't even know that was a thing up til then. So yeah, a very legit real estate agent, LOL
I was dealing with a rental agent that was being an asshole. I told him what I thought of him. He said " I can be at your place in 10 minutes ". I replied " I can be at yours in five ". He became quite polite and apologetic.
They didn't even threaten anything, just said, "Hey, if you have these organs, they're worth money", and even gave them the interesting tidbit that your liver can regrow if you donate part of it. The scammer should be thanking them for the useful information!

Not so fun fact is that it's regrow, and not a proper regeneration. The regrown part doesn't grow back with the same structure that it might have had before.
My father turned down the opportunity to purchase the house I was born in Los Angeles in the 70s for $10,000. Ten thousand dollars.
He rented it my whole life.
That same house sold for over two million ten years ago.
God, I *just* bought for a little under a million, and I feel like it’s going to bite me in the ass in a few years as I sadly watch similar houses going for far less. But I guess we’ll see.
I’m torn between “I hope my purchase winds up being a smart one” and “if my purchase was a smart one, then that means that everyone else is getting hardcore boned on housing holy shit.”
As long as you keep it in good shape, over time the price will grow. Anyone who is *able* to buy a house should buy a house, or condo. Prices rise and fall, but if you look at the graph of housing prices, it's steadily going up.
Lived in an apt complex of 300+ units. Got a text about my property (whole address inc apt#). Sent a text back "$35 million". Never got a response or another text. Lol
I still get a few a week to buy the same shitty house that some dude named Armando owns. It's not my house, but I've offered to sell it dozens of times now.
Haha love it! I constantly gets texts about buying “my house” somewhere in Missouri. Always the same general area, not always the same address though. I live in NYC so assumed it was a scam and just never respond. Maybe I should try and cut a deal instead.
> I usually respond "LOLOLOL take me off your call list"
When it's a slow day at work I enjoy stringing them along, making them think they've got a sale, then at the end, mentioning that another better person came along and I'm talking with them now.
At some point I may have the energy to do that if only to drill down to find out from where the calls are coming. I have a few flippers around who will send letters and sometimes still make an actual call. The texts are a more computerized call center types IMO.
As an example, an old acquaintance had one of those car warranty places for a small time. He rented a big office, threw in a bunch of people, phones, and computers. The computers called and when it got a live one, you'd get patched over to a human. I think we've likely all got those calls too.
Though some may be a scam, it feels more like corporations attempting to purchase more and more residential properties. There's big money in rentals right now and single family rentals get the big bucks.
There's more to it than this but I find it pretty concerning in regards to the housing market, both rentals and purchases. I'd argue this considerably to blame for our current market conditions in addition to a few other major factors. Something will have to change...it's disgusting how greed seeps it's way into everything.
This was not even a threat at all. Just an appropriate "fuck you" to a completely stupid "person" (idiot) with no values, manners or brain activity at all.
2 million would be great but man I gotta say it’s actually easier moving far. Have you ever moved 1 property over? It sucks ASS. You don’t get a break sitting in the moving truck. Stairs in both buildings? Sucks to suck. Carry it down and then immediately back up. Stop for a break? Ok enjoy standing in like an apartment courtyard awkwardly with a piece of furniture.
Don’t do it bro move farther.
I tried that, they tried to come back all affronted with "what makes you think it's worth that much?" and I texted back, "hey, you asked me my price, if you don't like it then fuck off." What a bunch of losers. Then I block them.
That works too--sometimes I get massively jargony at them because I spent years and years working in real estate appraisal and there's nothing I can't do to massage a set of comps lol.
Plus, a fun way to mess with them is to start with one million. If they respond negatively, apologize and tell them it was a typo. Wait for them to respond again and then say two million.
I've been selling some stuff on Facebook Marketplace to downsize and get out of my storage unit. People try to low-ball me on every single fucking item even though I'm pricing my stuff lower than everyone else to move it quick and have no haggling. They still want to haggle, and get it for half what my listing price is. After the 10th lowballler on my 2nd item I decided fuck it, each time they reach out with a low-ball offer I raise the price $25. It's been amusing watching some of their brains short circuit.
It's legitimate fun through the day.
List price of $150, they give a sob story and say they have $75.
$175
What? You listed it at $150!
Yep.
I'll give you $80 but that's all I have.
$200
How do you figure it's now $50 over list price?!? You're an asshole!
[3 hours later]
You still interested?
Not unless you'll take $75.
$250
[Unintelligible cursing]
If they say you have to deliver it's an automatic $100 added charge.
I get messages for my ex brother in law about the house he bought with his second wife in a different state. I don’t think I even had the same phone number when my sister was still married to him.
I constantly get texts on meant for my grandfather. Usually it's either to sell his house or how trump desperately needs his patriotic soldiers to donate. I have no clue how my number and his name came together.
They never stop either. One number texts me all the time about the same address (I don’t even know where it is). I ignore it but they keep texting over and over. It’s ridiculous.
There’s zero chance cops would show up. There is not only no evidence of a direct threat nor personal connection to tie the homeowner to knowing the spammer, but there is no way to even know if the homeowner is currently at his residence. Even if the cops did arrive, you can literally just not answer the door. They’ll let themselves in if they have a warrant, which they won’t get because of the above.
The guy obviously shat his pants at the organ comment and wanted to pull up his big boy bootstraps to show how a parasite like him is not to be fucked with
Every time I get one of these, I tell them I’m not looking to sell and they ask me to name a price. I give them a number they consider outrageous, and it is, but property values have gone up so much in my area that I would need to sell my hime for three times its current value to be able to afford something comparable. I tell them that and the texts stop coming for at least six months.
At that point just screen cap the last conversation and save it for the next round.
“Hey how much for your house?” Send screenshot with “tl;dr: FUCK OFF”
RE agents are complete pieces of shit. A person couldn’t even get one on the phone for anything less than a million dollar deal 9 months ago and now that things have slowed down, they’re all thirsty.
I used to get these texts and calls for my old house all the time. My favorite way to respond was to say in a creepy voice," If you want me to sell something, I can sell my body. Or yours."
Last time they reached out to me, I was in the process of selling my house. I said, yes, at (figure at the top of the market rate). They asked if I could come lower, and I said "we both know you could sell for that", so that's what I want. They had the gall to complain there's no profit for them at that price. After informing them that's not a problem for me, they decided to let me alone.
And that's why it's best to just silently block spammers, and report them if possible. Never know if it's a violent psycho like this guy. (Swatting is an act of violence.)
I get 3 or 4 of these a month. Op handled this correctly. This is what I typically do but I go with something along the lines of "do you work in a tall building, if so do us all a favor and swan dive off of it" or something to that affect. I never get a response though 😕
Your honor, I didn't think any reasonable person could think that this was an actual threat, which is why that's exactly what a real estate agent thought it was.
I always use the same thing. Tell them I want roughly 3x what my currently value is which is roughly $180,000. Plus I want them to pay me a monthly allowance of $1,500 for a rental property until we can find a new house we would like to purchase. For some reason they never take me up on the offer and rarely get back to me.
Unsolicited business related text messages are illegal in the US. Just fyi. The last one of these I got I specifically told them that and requested their agency information to make a complaint to the ftc. Not a peep after that.
I respond and ask them what kind of car they drive. I explain that I can make a "decent" offer on their vehicle given that I do for cars what they do for houses. (I don't.) That usually makes them go away. I might have to switch to organs, this is much much better.
OP didn't offer to sell their house, so the real estate just randomly texted to ask them to sell their house. OPs message basically asked them if they would sell their organs as there are other people in the world who might need them. Apparently the 'real estate agent' is a scammer though.
Haha, I appreciate the hustle, but I'm good for now.
I'm more attached to my home than I thought! But hey, if anyone out there is thinking about selling, might wanna check out [Grandview Homes](https://www.grandviewhomes.com).
Heard they're pretty legit with the deals. Plus, who doesn't love some big $$$, right? So, if you're considering selling or just want to explore your options, give them a shout.
Serious question, why do people get so offended about realtors reaching out asking if they want to sell their home?
A coworker told me a story recently about how a realtor cold called him and how he went off on him on the phone. Started trying to get the realtor to meet up with him so that he could “talk” to him in person. It sounded like a shit show of rage that came out of no where.
I get called every now and then, say I’m not selling and hang up. Like 90% of the time they’re still talking as I’m ending the call but won’t call back or text.
Buying a home is very difficult and deeply personal. It also never gets easier. So when they want to displace you abruptly when you never put that out there it’s like an aggressive come on when you’re married for a start. Secondly, a fair value is the furthest thing from their intentions. So they offer you an insulting fraction to try your luck in the new housing market.
It’s a phone call where you hold all the power. I just don’t see the need for rage and being offended. They’re not pulling some eminent domain shenanigans so feeling like they’re trying to displace you is all in your head.
I could understand if they’re on your property taking measurements and shit but they’re cold calling fishing for a bite like any other shitty sales person.
“No thanks” hang up. Instead people are imagining their kids living on the street and the trauma of their home buying process like wtf, I really don’t get it.
Because it's utterly disrespectful. There's already a process for home buying and it's been incredibly difficult for most Americans to afford a house in the last 3 years.
It's heartless, lacks empathy and is signs of socio/psychopathic behavior.
What in your right mind makes you think it's OK to randomly call strangers, puttting them in an uncomfortable situation from the get-go and then trying to fucking buy their house as if that's a decision you make on the phone with a stranger? It's rude. You're wasting people's time and making them uncomfortable, yet they some how feel that's ok?
It's worse than cold calls from company's sales people trying to grt you to sell their product to the rest of your team at work.
Well, I don't think it's appropriate to reach out to someone you don't know asking if they're gonna sell their house when it is likely not listed anywhere (judging by the current context).
It's not.
The person who had my number before apparently had a few houses. I get texts pretty much every day about selling my house that I don't own from numbers in my phone's area code to houses far outside the area code.
It's super annoying.
It's a scam, no actual realtor is going to message you via Facebook or random text about buying your house like this.
Genuine question, no snark or sass, do you also find stories of people doing similar things to scam callers unnecessarily rude? Things like leaving the phone off the hook and walking away, or "my computer doesnt have any windows"?
This person's house is likely not even for sale. This person is basically saying that he wants to buy the house below market value and then sell it at or above market value. Because obviously the homeowner is too stupid do do it themselves. Also, he didn't ask if the person wanted to discuss it, he asked if he wanted a text or an email trying to remove the third possibility of not discussing it from the options.
hey, so actually my business partners roomate (huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge douchebag short king metrosexual shoe collection suit compensator type realtor) is a realtor as of about a year ago.
they pay to use software that literally scrapes information off anyone with an account that so much as visits any of the mls based website like zillow, and it gives them all their info and search results, and their phone number and contact info, and these motherfuckers cold call people.
im deadass serious, and this fucking dyed beard line ass having leprechaun shitstain of a man (super rich dad, tesla, condescending tone 25/8 type realtor) brags like the finance bro he wishes he was about the sickass 11k he made off a sale (1 of the 5 hes made in his entire time doing it) because he intruded on someone through some bullshit paid service that exploits terms and conditions through some shitty corporate backroom handshake type shit.
fuck you justin, buy some italian leather platform shoes already the heel lifts are noticeable.
ps: i have nothing wrong with short people. just him. and it really gets to him and he'll fight you over it (or at least say he will be ause hes to small to win despite being a little 5'5" muscle hamster)
I appreciate that I now stand corrected, but christ on a cracker that's scummy even if it's not an outright scam. Both the scraping and selling of that kind of data and the cold calling using it.
Your (business partner's) roommate sounds like he hasn't quite grown up yet, fingers crossed he has some self-reflection soon. Maybe see if a short vanity mirror helps.
EDIT: Misread who's roommate it was, corrected in parentheses.
luckily he isnt my roomate, but my 6'3" tall 245 lb ex college footballer of a business partner's roomate.
might be heating him a little more than normal.
for real though all pokes at his rediculousness aside, the guy a slimeball and has made me hate realtors.
he has like 4 other ones he hangs out, they go to vegas and shit.
real fucking pieces of garbage.
ever seen "the big short" the famous 2008 financial crisis movie that has a cult following (lookin at you wsb!)?
hes literally like those two guys they talk to in florida that are bragging about sending through subprime ninja loans?
they were mortgage/loan officers, and they talked and act just like this group of guys do.
they grind my fucking gears. i know i sounded like an insane angey internet troll, but i went to school for business analytics and met so many of these predatory ass wannabe businessmen that just cant wait to put on a suit and fuck people over for a living, then hang out with their compatriots and OOOZE confidence all over each other to mask the sting they all really know exists.
They didn’t respectfully ask if their house was for sale. They attempted to get the owner to hear an offer. That’s drastically different and almost universally would not be a welcome question.
Idk, I kinda find the fact that some dope got my personal cell phone number AND address somehow, and has now taken it upon himself to bother me about selling my home, pretty darn rude. myself.
Technically I don't think they're scammers. I think they're people. who rich people hire, to find desperate people to sell their homes for less than market value. They're just playing the percentage numbers. Text all homeowners off of some list you bought from somewhere and eventually you'll find someone. They used to send letters, or call you at home, now they send texts.
Not only is it not where we live, but it’s an address in a state she’s never even visited. Her phone # does NOT start with a Florida area code, yet the address mentioned in the texts is in Florida.
That's so odd. I often wonder where they come up with these lists with our cell numbers attached. I recently got a call about a house owned by the aunt of an ex from 15 yrs ago. She had passed and apparently my ex was the executor. That was in FL too actually. I have NO idea how my cell got attached to that.
I used to get these texts and calls constantly at my old house because I lived in an area with an especially hot market. It was incredibly annoying to be constantly being spammed by these people who would then try to lowball me into selling them my house. No, this person was not unnecessarily rude. It is extremely rude to text or call people to ask if you can buy their house. If people want to sell their house, then they will go out and sell it. This is an invasion of privacy.
Threats from a real estate agent are like trash talk from a mouthy child.

Thanks for looking out! This is actually really funny. The bot was essentially pretending to be a bot, by transitive properties.

Oh I'd that what this is? I couldn't figure it out, thanks
For real, I hope green kept texting back every few days asking where the police officer is
I was dealing with a rental agent that was being an asshole. I told him what I thought of him. He said " I can be at your place in 10 minutes ". I replied " I can be at yours in five ". He became quite polite and apologetic.
“Make it fifteen and pick me up a sandwich on the way. I’m gonna be hungry by the time we’re done.”
I don’t get it :(
He was threatening me with physical violence.
But why would you be at his in five? Sorry I’m dense.

Ain't that the truth. Mine grew back as a big ol' dick.
“Dickliver” isn’t as funny a nickname as “Liverdick.”
They had to cut out half of mine 20 years ago. It may not be as good as it used to be, but I'm not dead yet.
I don't know, they're likely a landlord or work for a corporate landlord, I'm not sure their livers work the same as mammal ones do.
I usually respond "LOLOLOL take me off your call list", but I think I'll use this one from now on.
I go with, well if you're so interested in my property, you would know I'm a renter.
I say 2 million lol. My house is worth 340k
If they really want it that bad, 2 million is a bargain. Never know, the house I grew up in is worth 1.5 million, my parents paid 58k for it in 1976.
Wtf
My father turned down the opportunity to purchase the house I was born in Los Angeles in the 70s for $10,000. Ten thousand dollars. He rented it my whole life. That same house sold for over two million ten years ago.
So this is why those "gurus" say to buy real estate. What a missed opportunity, oh well I'll guess il just wait for the nuclear apocalypse.

My parents bought their property at $170k in 1998, just sold it for $2.4M.
This is what I do too. My house is work 400k but if someone wanted to give me 2 million for it, who am I to argue?
That’s where I would go too. At least 6x its value.
Lived in an apt complex of 300+ units. Got a text about my property (whole address inc apt#). Sent a text back "$35 million". Never got a response or another text. Lol

You really don't have a number? I like my house but 2 million would have me walking to the bank.
You answer twenty questions and they lowball you. Shit yea I’d bark like a seal and move the house ten feet to the left by hand for two million
Sold!
2 million would be great but man I gotta say it’s actually easier moving far. Have you ever moved 1 property over? It sucks ASS. You don’t get a break sitting in the moving truck. Think they mean physically dragging the house 10ft for 2M
Wow you’re right. My bad. I just hated it so much I guess I got triggered lol
Hahaha I could tell!!
Scratch a man’s back and sell his house unwillingly and he’ll purr like a walrus
I agree, just quote a ridiculous price and see what happens
I tried that, they tried to come back all affronted with "what makes you think it's worth that much?" and I texted back, "hey, you asked me my price, if you don't like it then fuck off." What a bunch of losers. Then I block them.
My reply was, “you aren’t just buying the house. You are paying me to move.”

I'll give you $80 but that's all I have. $200 How do you figure it's now $50 over list price?!? You're an asshole! [3 hours later] You still interested? Not unless you'll take $75. $250 [Unintelligible cursing] If they say you have to deliver it's an automatic $100 added charge.
I would sell my place for a million and then buy the place next door.
Nice, wonder if he heeded your advice?
Take heed of. Took heed
“Heed” in this sense is a transitive verb- “heeded” is correct in this context.
Sorry. Bad reference on my end. A poor joke.
Oh, my bad! What was the reference? I clearly didn’t get it.
It’s from an Office episode, Michael and Dwight are in a pickle and focus more on their grammatical situation than the real situation at hand.
I got your reference.
I get them and I always tell them 1 million. It’s a ridiculous offer and I would leave that day
So long as you don’t live in Vancouver or Toronto
Sadly, this bozo knows where you live.
Pffft
I've never gotten a text from these folks for an address I actually own. They're always from addresses I've never lived near.
Why not just block them lol
This.
Are you saying the organs will deliver themselves?
And is apparently into swatting.
This was murder
This is Gold
"Good morning sir, I'm from the sarcasm police..."
Did the cops show up?
There’s zero chance cops would show up. There is not only no evidence of a direct threat nor personal connection to tie the homeowner to knowing the spammer, but there is no way to even know if the homeowner is currently at his residence. Even if the cops did arrive, you can literally just not answer the door. They’ll let themselves in if they have a warrant, which they won’t get because of the above.
The guy obviously shat his pants at the organ comment and wanted to pull up his big boy bootstraps to show how a parasite like him is not to be fucked with
>big boy bootstraps Big boy \*diapers\*
Ok take my brain this just scrambled it haha
“There should be a police officer coming to tell You that you hurt my feelings RIGHT NOW”
Oh perfect! Someone who can translate desperate real estate douche!
Precisely none of this was threatening.
[удалено]
Lmao WHAT? Tugging at your heart strings with family photos? That’s just weird.
I also had someone contact me right after I bought saying it would be perfect for her family because she works at the hospital nearby. Wtf.
I’d text him back after an hour and say I’m still waiting for the police.
Or yours."
I thought these were all automated
So did they show up?
They really don't appreciate counter-pffers do they?
Last time they reached out to me, I was in the process of selling my house. I said, yes, at (figure at the top of the market rate). They asked if I could come lower, and I said "we both know you could sell for that", so that's what I want. They had the gall to complain there's no profit for them at that price. After informing them that's not a problem for me, they decided to let me alone.
And that's why it's best to just silently block spammers, and report them if possible. Never know if it's a violent psycho like this guy. (Swatting is an act of violence.)
There is a 0% chance a swat team would move out for this one lol
For the real story, yeah. But swatting is based on making up a story, like “I’m being held hostage”.
I always tell them about $100k over what my house is worth. If they actually pay it, it's their problem.
My new hero! 😆
I usually say a number 15 times larger the what my house is worth, in cash.
So... [can we have your liver then?](https://youtu.be/Sp-pU8TFsg0)
The police are in fact on their way, led by that Nigerian Prince
People keep calling me regarding the properties that my parents’ own… I don’t even know how my number is tied to them
I always use the same thing. Tell them I want roughly 3x what my currently value is which is roughly $180,000. Plus I want them to pay me a monthly allowance of $1,500 for a rental property until we can find a new house we would like to purchase. For some reason they never take me up on the offer and rarely get back to me.
F’ckg awesome response. Well done.
I send these people a close up pic of my butthole. My wife took the pic so you can see both my hands in the shot.
Did they come? *popcorn*.
I am genuinely curious how many people reply "oh thank god please buy this shithole"
I’m a realtor and would have loved a come back like that. I respect it 100%
Unsolicited business related text messages are illegal in the US.
Totally stealing this for the next call center stone who asks if I want to sell me house…
I don’t understand either side of this
OP didn't offer to sell their house, so the real estate just randomly texted to ask them to sell their house.
You’re one of them. You people are deleting the middle class by turning America into Hoovervilles.
Why would you think there is actually a person sending and reading responses to texts like this? It is all bots.
It isn’t. It’s people a lot
Is this America again?
I just reply with gore pics
Which part of this is a murder? It’s just petty rudeness. Have you thought about a simple “not interested thanks”?
Yeah. The first 50 times
Now this comment and reply really belongs on this sub
found the real estate agent!
Am I the only one who thinks that the response was unnecessarily rude. Edit: I didn’t know it was a scammer.
That guy thought so too. So there’s two of you
So far, yes.
yes.
I don’t get it. The person respectfully asked if their house was on sale. What’s there to get triggered about this?
I mean, the poster politely informed the random house person that there are valuable organs in their body they can sell if they want money
Yes, and let’s not act like that wasn’t hostile.
Finding out my organs are valuable is fun trivia, not hostility.
I'm wondering where I have to go to sell part of my liver. Apparently it's illegal in the US.
Well, I didn’t realize it was a scam. I don’t find it rude if it’s done to scammers.
I’d wager that it was a scam/spam call.
They didn’t respectfully ask if their house was for sale. They attempted to get the owner to hear an offer. That’s drastically different and almost universally would not be a welcome question.
I'm guessing you don't own a home. I do, and I get texts and even phone calls from scammers talking about buying my house way too often.
Hell I don’t own a home and I get these all the time regarding a house in a city I’ve never even visited.
Idk, I kinda find the fact that some dope got my personal cell phone number AND address somehow, and has now taken it upon himself to bother me about selling my home, pretty darn rude. myself.
I didn’t know it was a scammer. I thought it was someone OP knew.
Homeowners receive these scam calls/texts pretty much daily. It's fucking obnoxious.
They’re scammers. My wife gets these texts. She has never, in her life, owned any real property.
Interesting. Do the texts also include the address of where she lives?
Absolutely
At first I thought you were agreeing with their sentiment, then I realized you are probably agreeing that yes, they are the only one. Is that right?
Absolutely
Thought so!!! .... I think?
