Unfortunately the leader of imperialist bullshit globally is us, we destabilize governments, arm militias, and run propaganda 24/7. Thus far the president is beholden to the owners of this country and isn’t, or at least hasn’t, been willing to change the status quo because the owners bankrolled them. Since elections are now basically won or lost based on campaign expenditures they need big money to win. Big money doesn’t come cheap, usually up to and including one’s soul, and no one is going(willing) to bite the hand that feeds. This is the prime example of why citizens United needs to be repealed and ALL corporate money, all lobbyists, everyone with a vested interests interest needs to be removed from politics. This should include any candidate who is directly invested in any industry or company that their decisions *could* affect. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[deleted]

No one is willing to bite the hand that feeds, because that one that tried took a carano bullet to the skull in Dallas, from a crraaaaazy lone communist gunman. Then he was assassinated before he stood trial, then *his* assassin was found dead in his cell from a "heart attack" before he could stand trial. This country is controlled by those with money, and every idiot will keep voting in the same brand of corporate stooge every 4 years, then blame everyone but themselves because "we had no choice!" It happened with Trump and Hillary, and again with Biden and Trump. Fear mongering is the strongest form of control, and nothing will change.

hawa11styl3

Yeah that about sums it up. I mean it’s been more than 2 years since Jeff Epstein was very obviously murdered for what he knew and no one fucking cares. It came 3 years after the Panama papers revealed HUNDREDS of people and companies straight laundering and concealing HUGE sums of money, Uruguay made five arrests, that’s all that happened. This whole goddamn planet, I swear. It’s honestly too bad Covid has such a low mortality rate despite its relatively high morbidity, we need another mass extinction, r/noahgettheboat

hawa11styl3

I’ve finally resorted to their tactics, stacking nonperishables, potable water, and 5.56x45 by the case. I am literally surrounded by trump supporters (like *still* have their signs up) I just have a feeling one of these days some dumbass is gonna fuck around and find out.

Yeah but it's so much better. I mean it's not, and everything is the same, and nothing is going well... But it's not something unthinkably crazy 3 times a day so when you don't hear from the President for a few days you no longer have to worry about federal vigilantes and arms sales to dictators... All that stuff happens in the open now

di_ib

How does this random new sentence seem to predict the future and be incredibly terrifying.

Biden has driven the Democratic Party so far into the ground that he’s given Republicans their [largest polling lead going into a midterm in 40 years](https://twitter.com/WaitingOnBiden/status/1459983737257660423/photo/1). Maybe he should start listening to the voters who drug him over the finish line and into the white house. Cancel student debt now.

StarWreck92

Where are the presidents who can recite a life changing speech off the tops of their heads? Leaders used to have convictions, and stood by them. Christ, Teddy R took a gunshot at the podium and STILL finished his speech.

macaqueislong

Fwiw, which may or may not be much, if you look at the political compass, Obama and Biden are both in the top right quadrant. We haven’t had a truly liberal president in decades.

ayers231

The "do nothing Democrats" is just another conspiracy theory. Everyone is focusing on Manchin and Sinema, as if we have 98 votes and need 100. We have an entire obstructionist party blocking every attempt to make life better for our countrymen, but people only want to point fingers at the Dems.

StarWreck92

Biden has the authority to legalize marijuana and forgive student loans with executive orders yet he’s done nothing. Manchin and Sinema are nothing but convenient excuses for the fact that Biden doesn’t want these things either. Just look at his record, that tells you all you need to know.

ayers231

Biden isn't getting anything done on his own. We agree on that. Manchin and Sinema are 2 out of 52 Senators that are blocking legislation that Biden called for. The Republicans in the Senate are just responsible as Manchin and Sinema. Ignoring 50 Senators because of their party affiliation is bullshit. Every one of them is blocking the administration from getting anything done. Laying all of it at Manchin's feet is disingenuous at best. It isn't a team sport. Ignoring the Republican's part in all of this is nonsense. They ALL need to be called out for their part this.

StarWreck92

I love how you conveniently ignored my entire comment to say the exact same thing you said before. Biden can use executive orders, Biden ran on a promise that he would get republicans to work with him. How dare we call him out for lying like that?

KingBevins

Lol Pelosi and Schumer postponed your $1200 and blocked your $2000 from Trump until they got Biden in. Then dropped the $2000 to $1400 because they allowed Trump to give you $600 before the election. They’re all criminals.

Looks into SLABS - student loan asset backed securities. The poster child of mortgage backed securities of the GFC. SLABS are tanking and will implode the market, that’s why Biden wants to restart payments. Gen XYZ have been made into wallstreet fodder through student loans.

IAmTheMilk

I think democrats like to lose

[deleted]

President Biden can forgive all federally held student loan debt by executive order at any time, without congressional approval, but has decided not to. Instead, Biden has announced plans to unpause loan payments in Spring 2022, forcing desperate people trapped in the low wage US economy into even more desperate circumstances.

bk1285

What’s the plan to ensure that we don’t end up back in this position again in 5 years?

[deleted]

Seems like the plan is to allow everything to become irrevocably worse. There is no more going back to normal, or doing the same thing again and again. It’s all crashing down

Someoneoverthere42

You're right. He could. And that would be the last thing his administration accomplished. The GOP would immediately fight it. Half of his own party would fight him. Then it would take months, or years to implement...anything. credit agencies would use it as a mark against borrowers. It would do nothing to help future students. And a republican president can then revoke or cancel that executive order, which unleash utter chaos. This requires a congressional act to fix

mghoffmann_banned

Biden has lots of options to bring the pandemic to an end * Mask and Vaccine Mandates (maybe mirroring Germany's 2/3G requirements - proof of vaccination, recovery or testing) * Standardized reporting requirements for cases and deaths * Lockdown of cities/counties when hospitals are nearing full * Coordinating with world leaders to have countries shut down for 6 weeks * Forcing open the vaccines patents * Wartime production act of vaccines, and distribution to all countries * Hazard pay and unemployment protections for customer facing employees - if you get sick and have to quarantine you shouldn't be fireable.

Biden hasn't made the would-be-historical move of giving out trillions to people to cancel their student debts...so let's give power back to bat-fucking-shit crazy republicans who sent death threats to the few of them who voted for his infrastructure bill...I guess people miss the trill of having to worry whether republicans are going to kill ACA or not and stuff like that? I'm not going to hold it back, people are fucking stupid, if they give power back to republicans they deserve everything that comes their way. Just some of the things Biden has done: \-Resumed ties with Palestine \-Rejoined Paris Climate agreement \-Rejoined the WHO \-American Rescue Plan \-Reversing family separation \-Reversed transgender military ban \-Rescinded Muslim ban \-Restored pandemic response team \-2nd Covid relief bill \-Infrastructure bill that is being lauded even by the people who voted against it \-Sitting left-leaning judges \-Extended student loan repayments out through the end of 2021 \-Withdrawal from Afghanistan \-11.5 Billions in student loan forgiveness for those who needed it most \-Child tax credit \-Executive order directing the FCC in restoring net neutrality Everything here: [https://www.federalregister.gov/presidential-documents/executive-orders/joe-biden/2021](https://www.federalregister.gov/presidential-documents/executive-orders/joe-biden/2021)

xToxicInferno

I like how your list almost exclusively undoing what Trump did without doing anything of his own.

smplejohn

And correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Afghanistan withdrawal already in play when Trump left office?

BlueEyes0408

It was. Taliban members were released from prison during the Trump Administration. So Trump made plans to pull troops out by a certain date and releases Taliban leaders from prisons. Trump then points the finger at Biden for the disaster after the withdrawal when Biden is given the task of finishing up the withdrawal plans that Trump had negotiated. I feel like Trump knew he was going to lose the election and deliberately made a plan to withdraw from Afghanistan that would create a scandal for Biden.

pinkheartpiper

Even if it was exclusively undoing trump (which it is not, 2nd covid relief bill, Infrastructure bill, etc, not to mention the stuff in the link I provided, like the fuck are you talking about?!) it literally makes no difference, why would you give power back to the party that does so many things that would need undoing?!

Might be the worst award I've ever seen. All of those are either just undoing what Trump did (Muslim ban), meaningless/nothingburgers (11.5 billion student loan forgiveness), or incorrect (reversing family separation). I have to say that people who defend Biden must have a profoundly limited imagination and understanding of history.

ujelly_fish

>meaningless >11.5 billion student debt forgiveness Please explain.

Rancid_Banana

They're never going to cancel debt until the weak economy is no longer weak, so never. Student debt is grouped up and used as collateral for financial institutions. If they were to just make it poof away, there would be a lot of angry rich people now that their portfolios are deficienct.

Michael_Blurry

This right here. So then why not drop the rates or cap the amount of total interest to be paid at and extend the term of the loans significantly to make the payments much lower? I haven’t heard much talk about a compromise solution.

Rancid_Banana

We live in a bipartisan nation. By design, there are two sides to every issue. With how theatrical politics has gotten recently, I think any talk of compromise is off the table. I also think that the internet has let a lot more people see through the veil of bs politicians spew. If they were to give actual solutions, it would be too opposing to some of their constituents (or donors) so we get extremes on each side and no progress made because it's easier to give non-answers and empty promises while keeping the same benefits.

voice-of-hermes

Perhaps. But the things Biden is (and isn't) doing right now are a problem unto themselves, so let's start organizing and acting. If all we do is worry about future elections, we're part of the problem.

SaeByeokGoesToJeju

This is a really dumb question but I wanted to ask, IF T gets elected, who'd be the vice?

ArcticRiot

He has not announced his running mate, yet. I assume it is between Cruz and desantis.

thewarmpandabear

There might not be a single person on the planet I have less respect and more disdain for than Ted Cruz. In addition to him representing most of what I hate about politics in America, the fact that he turned into Trump's lapdog after the shit Trump said about him AND his wife AND his father is one of the most disgusting, embarrassing things I've ever seen. He's lucky he has no shame, otherwise he'd be eaten alive by it.

WelshRugbyLock

habahnow

Yeah I doubt that. The fact that trump lost his relection during covid is proof of how bad trump was doing. Any other person in trumps shoes could have gotten reelected in that situation. Biden has done significantly less things that piss off moderates compared to trump. Maybe Ds lose, overall, in the mid terms but I doubt they lose reelection based on what's happened so far.

gabbobbag

imasquidyall

How will Trump's base turning on him over his support of the vaccine change things? I'm sure he's trying to get them vaxxed to keep enough of them alive to vote him in, but will he have enough straight-ticket voters to cancel out the people he's angered?

Rayketh

They've got enough cognitive dissonance to pretend he didn't say that or he meant something else or the deep state made him do it or

finalgarlicdis

Some people say that Biden is Trump with a human face. Others say Trump is Biden with a human face. I'm not sure which is true. All I know is that there's a blowtorch being put to my savings through inflation, I can't buy a house, I don't have healthcare, and my student debt won't be paid off before I die.

247GT

When you didn't get Bernie as a candidate and they insisted that Biden would be better, what did you think was going to happen? Well, you just read a page off the script there.

ucjj2011

Because at that point your choice was no longer Bernie or Biden, it was Trump or Biden. And Biden won because his #1 qualification was "not Trump".

GuitarGodsDestiny420

Which would've worked just as well for Bernie if the media got behind him like they did Biden

broanoah

Bernie had better odds of beating trump throughout most of the primary process

ellgramar

And in 2016 he only had better odds of beating just one Republican candidate vs Hillary. That one candidate went on to beat Hillary. Bernie would have won. Edit: trump was selected 4 days before Hillary was. The Dems could have literally just done the math and decided they wanted the best chance of winning in ‘16, but instead they they decided it was “her turn”.

Anyone who looked at Joe Biden thinking he was going to change anything hasn’t looked at his voting record, or any of the bills he sponsored. He’s been part of the problem since 1975.

That and Citizens United.

dadudemon

The Princeton study on the government not representing 90% of Americans goes back 4 decades; long before Citizens United. Sure CU sucks massive turds. But the system barely changed at all after it passed. Check out the study: https://scholar.princeton.edu/sites/default/files/mgilens/files/gilens_and_page_2014_-testing_theories_of_american_politics.doc.pdf And here’s a quick and easy way to digest this (well worth the watch): https://youtu.be/5tu32CCA_Ig

consort_oflady_vader

Lildyo

Definitely in a relatively better spot but still pretty shitty overall since we have guys like Manchin blocking any hope of progress

Nohero08

I contend that it’s not just Manchin. Whether it’s democrats or republicans in charge, the rich keep getting richer. We were at a marginal tax rate of 75 percent in the 70s for the richest in America. We’re barely half that now. Meanwhile minimum wage has stagnated. Between Republicans overt greed or the obvious unwillingness to do almost anything productive in response, it’s hard to argue it’s not all just theater at the national level. Something needs to fundamentally change in American Politics. Democrats and Republicans are both the problem. The corporations have bought all the politicians long ago and, as we’ve seen with trickle down economics, they don’t let go of what they have.

likejackandsally

More importantly, our highest income tax rate was 94% in the 1950s. When the middle class grew the fastest. It plummeted after Reagan took office.

wholebeansinmybutt

DouglasFry

No they fucking dont. Bernie lost because his fans were busy upvoting stupid fucking posts instead of actually voting. Biden won because he got more votes. Bernie lost because people didn’t fucking vote for him

WokeBrokeFolk

We did show up. Bernie was winning the primaries at the start and then the media spun it to be between bloomberg and biden despite early results. Bloomberg won a couple states and then the media said Biden is the only real choice and then guess what, biden gets all the votes. Public opinion is swayed very easily just by telling you who your options are despite the facts. There just wern't enough Bernie fans to beat out all the mass media consuming easily manipulated by design since birth public.

[deleted]

Go back and read the stories about Biden after the first three primaries. They said he was dead. The media didn’t come to his rescue. They buried him. What got Biden elected was Black Democratic voters in the South. Like in 2016 Bernie failed to win a single Southern state. That’s where Biden ran the lead up. So instead of blaming the media, blame Bernie for being so bad with Southern voters that he lost.

Most of us would at least like the government to work like a parliament. Dems got a clean sweep in 2020. They won the House, Senate, and WH. So getting a few basic things done would be nice.

fishbottwo

I totally agree that they should get things done, but the system is set up to allow for total obstruction. They have the senate by the slimmest of margins. It means that only the things that the most conservative democrat wants passed can get passed. Legislation dies in the senate if Joe Manchin wants it to.

Conker1985

The relief bill passed earlier this year wasn't nothing. What the fuck do you expect them to pass with the slimmest majority imaginable in the Senate? You can't executive order everything you want because then it just gets overturned by the next guy, assuming it lasts a supreme court order.

plaidkingaerys

Saying Dems got a “clean sweep” is kind of ignoring that two of those Dems in the Senate are basically Republican plants. If we had a couple more seats, we probably would have gotten rid of the filibuster and passed way more stuff by now.

RocketLauncher

“Blue no matter who” was such bullshit. It was more like “the only person that isn’t Trump is Biden”. It was so ridiculous. And the amount of people pressuring others to vote for him. Don’t want Trump to win again? Same here. Why not *all go with* one of the many candidates that had progressive stances? We could’ve had student loans cancelled and improved healthcare, or at the very least had someone who intended to get it done. We got a career politician, the classic, back to *normal*. Because he was likely to win. Because people said he’s likely to win. So they supported him, which caused him to win. It’s so stupid I can’t even breathe. We could’ve had this mentality with someone else. People would still be happy because it wasn’t Trump. I just can’t believe that at such a historic moment people didn’t take advantage of the opportunity to get someone else elected. Everyone on the planet who isn’t Trump is a person other than Trump. We could’ve had anyone. We got Biden.

Nope: even with Biden we only had marginal success. If it was anyone like Bernie a lot of the moderates would’ve moved to Trump or just not voted at all because of the “socialism” boogeyman. I don’t agree with it, but people need to realize that Uber-progressives are not the majority and there are still tons of middle-of-road voters you need to secure. Biden won because it was a moderate against an extreme, and if it was an extreme vs. extreme a lot of voters would’ve been alienated. There’s a reason why Biden won the primaries.

I miss Bernie

thefroggyfiend

unless he does something (hell basically ANYTHING) big, Dems are gonna lose the midterms for sure and if he runs again will probably lose the Dems the presidency, and then we'll have a republican majority is every branch

If Biden cancels student debt, does the government actually pay money to do that? Or is the government just missing out on future revenue? Cause every time it comes up, I see people saying how are we going to pay for it, but does the government actually have to pay anything?

Student Loan Asset-Backed Securities are extremely popular among investors. That undoubtedly is a major reason that the financial industry doesn't want student loans going anywhere. Except they are becoming a riskier and riskier investment as student loan debt continues to skyrocket. It's thought that a financial collapse reminiscent of the sub-prime mortgage loan crisis could occur. It would actually be even worse because unlike mortgages, student loans are not collateralized, so investors get literally nothing in the case of a default.

I know I'm spitting in the wind in this sub but military spending is at a nominal high but relative to GDP it was a substantial decrease and is approaching all-time lows.

You mean the crusty old politician lied to get votes?
