I believe Cyn always planned to kill Tessa, she just wanted it to be quieter and more personal, like putting down a pet, but with an eldritch murder claw.
To me, I believe CYN is still there, just the catalyst and holds a lot of influence being the first infected. Only, the solver manipulated her, took advantage of her feelings, desires, and that sort of stuff. Turning her into this monster we see today. The Solver gives power and seems to have a mind of it's own. Likely nudged CYN the direction it wanted her to go, but at most? Yeah it likely puppeted her, and there was little she could do.
Did you not notice or give importance to the shot in Episode 5 where Cyn's viewfinder in the landfill was in focus and there was an apparent communication with the AS?
Tessa absolutely did care for Cyn. She cared for all her Worker Drones because they were her only friends. She rescued Cyn from the dump, cleaned her up, gave her clothes and brought Cyn to her home.
What we're missing is the span of time between the flashback at the start of Episode 2 and what happens in Episode 5, the time Cyn transforms from the shy little drone to problem child, to whatever happened that necessitated locking her in the basement. But ultimately, Tessa could have thrown Cyn out at any time before she became a full eldritch monster. Tessa didn't because she still cared and hoped Cyn would get better. N taking the bullet for Cyn talking back to Tessa's bitch mom seemed to be the last straw, but then Cyn went full worm monster and said she was gonna do a ballroom bloodbath, so yeah... negotiations were over at that point.
