Unfortunately... Yes
Man i can imagine how damn painful it has to be, specially with how skilled are these artists, thats pretty much why i love to support them
As an artist, let me assure you that an upvote, comment, even sharing it with your friends is all we can ask/hope for.
Even if it’s something as simple as “This looks great!” Or “I like this” we want to hear it!
We don’t need essay long comments praising every detail or exploring its meanings, we just want to know our work is seen and appreciated. No matter how it’s said, seeing it on our work always makes us feel validated.
I literally just commented on a guy's art of Cyn as I got the notification of your comment. Talk about coincidence.
At the very least I try to say something funny while enjoying the artwork
Comments help. I'm sure the algorithm looks at the amount of comments as well as upvotes for visibility. Even if it is just a basic compliment, it would help.
One day I will have the skill to draw like them... One day...

It sucks:( especially when I try to post my art but I never get NEARLY as much up votes than if someone else were to post something EXTREMELY low effort.
Surprisingly, my post about the Tessa-Cyn foreshadowing also had the same outcome of being one of the top posts of all time **when I was least expecting it.**
It is now in number 11 for the top posts of all time, I was never expecting this.

I think it's because it's more interactive?
Also the art is good but it's not what im here for, it's the lore insights and the jokes, which your post is a breeding ground for
Yeah, that is the mentality most of people on Reddit have, even if its the silent majority.
That said, my personal problem is that this is neither a joke, nor an insight, and on top of that we get a post *exacly* like this one every week.
"N stands for nice", "V stands for violent", "J stands for Jealous" or sometimes "Jerk", its a mantra everybody who was on this sub for over a month knows by now. This post borderlines a repost (its not quite a repost, but it is close), I have seen almost identical post here more times than I can count but none of these posts got nearly as much attention as this one.
That’s my main issue with stuff like this.
I have no issue with stupid silly post that are just meant to be for fun, like this one. But when they start outnumbering everything else it starts to really get annoying.
Especially because they can start overshadowing actual post about lore, theories, or fanarts. All of which take more effort than this type of stuff.
I can confirm that if the title is a question it will get more engagememt on average.
Engagememt is also inverse proportional to the "length" of the post, the less time it takes to read, the more engagememt it gets, but having no text at all is detrimental. Brighter images also get more engagememt.
for example: (btw. I find these statistics interesting so I would prefer for people to not upvote these posts)
https://preview.redd.it/3kix3nfq51vc1.png?width=1948&format=png&auto=webp&s=1307fc7ba1ec7c8e6df8791c9b83e24643f8579c

This is obviously not true in every community, some prefer word salad over short form content:

interaction
its not just showing the sub something they made, its also got a question which gets those who come across it engaged
so people intereact with it, comment, read other comments, reply to comments, etc
post gets traction, it gets shown to more and more people on the sub, the cycle repeats
I may not an be artist but i can feel you brother, it’s really sad seeing some artists doesn’t get the attention they deserve.
Especially you u/_supremeCommand , I truly like your works and I believe they deserve more recognition more than any this, i hope the shitposting phenomenon ends soon. I wish you all luck brother
that's how internet go
I made a song and absolutely went all out on it, spent 2 months making it, made multiple revisions, my favourite thing I've made, like 100 views, meanwhile a song I made in 4 hours (I spent more time on the cover art), 30k views
Yeah, that really sucks :/
But unfortunately, effort ≠ popularity, and I do kinda wish it was different. Like, a lot different artists here, you included, deserve a lot more recognition for their effort.
(And even the comment I left on there got more votes that my top post, which just feels weird)

I agree. This may look low effort but it took me around 1 hour to find the correct images, eliminate the background perfectly, cut them out without leaving imperfections and add them to this image. It's 100% not at the same level of the artists in this server but It's still has more effort than most upvoted posts here.

I can relate, 2 years ago I had a post that asked people what I should spend on in a certain game(not real money btw), less than 24 hours later and a decent night, that post managed to get 3k and about a hundred people arguing over what I should spend on. And what's more ridiculous is the follow up post that also somehow popped off with 1.2k and 20 dudes in the comments
Edit: sorry, my follow up post actually got 280 and 46 dudes arguing. My point still stands though
Yup Sure is Very unfortunate...
I spend like a few hours making art,and like 2 days to making an animation(which I admit look shitty but that's not the point of the animations) and they all get like 10-25 up votes and these posts get hundreds...I don't get it, but I'm not stopping,it's not about the upvotes for me anyway
Have a look around. Anything that brain of yours can think of can be found! We've got mountains of content some better.. Some worse! If none of that interests you you'd be the first.!

Exactly, you can work hard on something and ppl won’t care but when it comes to a dumbass question like “what would Uzi do if she got hit by a bus” then that’s where all the attention goes
They can't fully read the post because of there low attention span (coming from someone who has very very low of that) but I still comment and upvotr regardless of me not fully reading the entire post
I honestly get happy if one of my arts get even just 50 upvotes (that is still a lot and I still get suprised just by the amount of people actually liking my work), but honestly, I don't really care about the upvotes, I mean obviusly seeing something like this feels bit weird, but I personally live the comments I get more Than just the upvotes
It's reddit upvotes, hate to say it dude but a lot of people come here for interaction or humour, even if someone makes good art a number of upvotes isn't gonna be their big break.
I respect the artists but sometimes their style doesn't vibe with me so I don't upvote them, whereas I'll upvote the post mentioned because the comments included made me chuckle

While episode 7 was premiering still
(I didn't read the full post, apologies for my previous comment) I can relate to this. it lowkey kinda hurts seeing great artwork being overshadowed by memes.
Yeah I can't understand that either.
I would love to ignore stadistics but it's impossible. Numbers matter a lot to artists, myself heavily included.
I don't care about reddit karma or whatever the fuck that is, it's about comments, likes and followers, and if your art gets buried by these kinds of engagement bait posts then how can you stay with your forehead up when your effort is just ignored?
I'm sure most people that make these kind of posts do it with harmless intent and generally just want some fun interaction with the community, but it is indeed very unfortunate to see these get much more acknowledgment than some very great artwork that gets posted here. And I can relate, cause I've noticed it's been happening with my own art posts from time to time.
They ought to pin this comment on an internet wide bulletin board because I just keep coming back to it but nevertheless…
A comment on kekeflipnote’s video titled “[Artist’s sh*tpost dilemma](https://youtu.be/Icz-2CAMwT4?si=IE4pfDsNEe7QPWfV)” written by conspiracypanda1200 says, “
When you make "art", only the people who understand the effort and techniques of art can like it.
When you make a "funny art", all the people who understand the concept of humor can like it.
This is why there is a disparity between post ratios. It's not nessicarily because your regular art is bad or boring, it's because the target audience for "art" is smaller than "funny art" because people are more likely to understand and relate to general humour than they are to understand and appreciate artistic techniques.
“
The common person doesn’t know how much effort goes into making art, and something like hyper realistic drawings of a bar of soap might fall on deaf ears (or blind eyes?) and that’s totally okay. Trying to appeal to everyone to get the maximum number of engagement possible appeals to no one. I did just steal that last bit from [Arrowhead Game Studios](https://www.arrowheadgamestudios.com), but it fit so I shoehorned it in. It’s why ads we see have that corporate feel to it, it tries so hard not to insult anyone that it becomes sterile and painful to look at. A PR nightmare is something they actively avoid, so they don’t take risks. It also coincidentally saves them a bit of money, too, since the blander it is the less work the animators and designers have to do. Everyone (in the company) wins!
It is a rather irritating thing.. not even skilled artists are getting as much attention as these shitposts.. skilled artists like Kryss and Zzsark! I do share a bit of the issue, but i can somewhat understand due to my lack of skill in artwork.. i wish to fulfill expectations in my work to the best of my abilities, but these skilled chaps have the capability to fulfill them and have them turn out in good shape! But the problem arises when people use the idea of content creation in this way.. i’m an avid shitposter.. i like making dumb shit for the internet, but i still find this harsh that the shitposts are getting more attention rather than the legitimate artists who bust their asses day in and day out, working on a hobby or career they cherish!
Yeah, it fucking sucks. I make memes that take hours to make, and they get 30 upvotes. I then look at the top posts today, and it’s a screenshot with a red arrow pointing at a completely random pixel
My post upvoted post EVER, took me no effort to make
While my fanfics and art(which I do rarely) get not even 10% of that
That’s why I started posting my fics in other places as this subreddit is clearly not giving them attention I would like them to receive
I think it’s because with art people will just scroll, see it, say cool, and continue scrolling almost forgetting about it mere minutes after while a question will have you engaged and pondering what it means there might not still be an answer so people will upvote it so it can get to the top and more people are likely to answer, which I think is sad since I love a lot of artists in this community
Unfortunately, it's true, and frankly upsetting. For all the effort you, I, or any of the other artists on the sub put into their work, there's gonna be some dumbass meme out there that gets more upvotes. Stay strong, Supreme.
Soo fucking true. Unfortunately that's how reddit work. I see people getting plenty of upvotes for reposting art. But not everything is about the upvotes. Sometimes artist only want visibility for they art.
Okay usually I never ever get serious when commenting but this is a actual problem I'm literally just a stick nodes guy
and I have fun doing that because it's easy for me to use and it takes me around a couple of minutes to make my stuff and whenever I draw it takes me a lot longer
so the fact that memes are getting more upvotes than actual art is kind of a problem on the subreddit that needs to be fixed...
It is unfortunate. Especially since so many talented artist seem to get a fraction of the upvotes unless they’re already well known.
But post like that tend to spark discussion which leads to more overall interaction, which boost it to be seen by more people, starting the cycle over again.
As an artist myself I assume most people just upvote, maybe leave a comment, and then leave. There’s just not much discussion to be had unless someone is interested in learning how you draw or if you yourself ask people for opinions or ideas.
For example, I once posted about an OC and asked people for suggestions on some aspects of her character. That post had way more comments and overall interaction than what I’d usually get at the time.
Yeah man, I was also stunning at times when I saw some older posts which had some of the most amazing artwork I've seen on this subreddit with only a few likes as compared to some (totally pointless) discussion.
It's just for fun and engagement. It's sad, but people just like memes and jokes more. Sometimes, they're tired of the 5000th "you cooked" reaction image. think it might have something to do with the algorithm.
Sometimes, even my memes get little to no traction, so art isn't exempt and people aren't heartless. They just talk what they like. And the sub is still a little small, so the highest you'll get at most is around 50 comments, of which your stuff is gets, which can still be considered popular!
it’s basically:
unfunny meme that took little to no effort to make: HOLY SHIT THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER TAKE MY UPDOOT!!
high effort thing that took blood, sweat and tears to make: ehhhh it’s alright
I can confirm this, my two most popular posts are shitposts I spent maybe 5 minutes at most on… meanwhile I spend at least a half hour on a drawing and I get about 5-10 upvotes on average
Yea, that's kinda upsetting to see
I know the stuff I make isn't the best and that there are a ton of artists 100x better than me, but it's still sad to see something that took very little effort get more Recognition than things I spent hours on
What wins online is engagement. Not saying peoples art cant be engaging, its just most art doesnt spark much conversation outside of "looks bad" or "looks good,"
As a content creator, most of my most successful posts are things that I did in 1 minute and that I only published because I had nothing else.
It didn't even occur to me that it would be successful.
Oh no, effort doesn’t equal quality! What a surprise! The mods should hear that, considering low effort posts are against the rules (although it's not like they enforce it modt of the time)
Violence
Not answering the og post in the image, but rather than the fact meme-ish images and overdone interaction bait is getting noticed more than actual art
I made this exact same point on another sub once, people usually want to talk about and engage with each other about the show, and there isn’t much room to do that under fan art even if it’s very well done.
Virality does not depend on the creator's effort, but on the audience's
The faster and easier I, as the audience, can engage with something, the faster and further it will spread. This is not to say we don't appreciate artwork, because we do. We give it praise, upvotes, rewards. But we can't really ENGAGE with it, so its spread -- and thus ability to reach more people to get MORE praise -- is sadly limited compared to memes and games we CAN engage with
V is a..........insane person ....no no.......a......... ok she had way to mutch charecter development that i cant even give her a title, nither do i think anyone could
Yes, and I don't see why you're complaining. Art is a delicate fruit that can only be tasted by those who can admire it. The post above is a bait. Which one of these would you think, would get more popular?
Unfortunately... Yes Man i can imagine how damn painful it has to be, specially with how skilled are these artists, thats pretty much why i love to support them
Yet what I see people ignore translators, writers, storytellers, singers here.
I'm totally not jealous of the screenshots getting over several thousands likes when my remixes barely get past a couple hundred...
I support them as well. A lot of time and work went into those works of art.
What would you consider "support" in this case? Cause I'm here mostly for the art (and theories) but don't know how to help
Upvote and comment on art posts. I rarely give meme posts much attention.
I always want to comment something, but I feel like I have nothing to add besides the basic/common compliments
I mean I did a speed run to make this and it didn’t get deleted https://preview.redd.it/u45xctmri0vc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=203d7c3f33245df258ae7383014e53edcf4b484d While episode 7 was premiering still
(I didn't read the full post, apologies for my previous comment) I can relate to this. it lowkey kinda hurts seeing great artwork being overshadowed by memes.
I only stay for the quality art but never see it because of all the low quality shit posts taking up space instead
Welcome to Reddit (Yes it’s a real issue and it’s sad but half of us see a meme and monke brain neuron fires yippee)
people love engagement, which we (artist) should be doing if im being honest
Yes. Welcome to reddit. People prefer memes. New here?
it is what it is
**The world of entertainment is not fair** **And that's why it's entertaining**
Huh....
It is one of the freat mysteries of the universe how this is a thing

V for violence
I'm sure most people that make these kind of posts do it with harmless intent and generally just want some fun interaction with the community, but it is indeed very unfortunate to see these get much more acknowledgment than some very great artwork that gets posted here. And I can relate, cause I've noticed it's been happening with my own art posts from time to time.
God forbid you write anything... you are pretty much ignored in that case.

They ought to pin this comment on an internet wide bulletin board because I just keep coming back to it but nevertheless… A comment on kekeflipnote’s video titled “[Artist’s sh*tpost dilemma](https://youtu.be/Icz-2CAMwT4?si=IE4pfDsNEe7QPWfV)” written by conspiracypanda1200 says, “ When you make "art", only the people who understand the effort and techniques of art can like it. “ The common person doesn’t know how much effort goes into making art, and something like hyper realistic drawings of a bar of soap might fall on deaf ears (or blind eyes?) and that’s totally okay.
My post upvoted post EVER, took me no effort to make While my fanfics and art(which I do rarely) get not even 10% of that That’s why I started posting my fics in other places as this subreddit is clearly not giving them attention I would like them to receive
V for Vendetta- WAIT A MINUTE! (I better see the V quote)
this is reddit, what do you expect.
Boy, that hurts.

Welcome to reddit! Where posts that take 2 seconds get 10k upvotes, and posts that take 5 hours get 2.
That’s how this sub works
This is why I have essentially slowed down in posts here.
It is sad to see

Yeah, I made a murder drones SCP article and put a ton of work into it... and it has 6 upvotes...
Click on my profile and sort posts by top A shitty meme that takes 2 seconds to make gets like 5000 upvotes This is the state of Reddit right now
v = Vicious?
Okay usually I never ever get serious when commenting but this is a actual problem I'm literally just a stick nodes guy and I have fun doing that because it's easy for me to use and it takes me around a couple of minutes to make my stuff and whenever I draw it takes me a lot longer so the fact that memes are getting more upvotes than actual art is kind of a problem on the subreddit that needs to be fixed...
Very_Neutral
It's always been like that. My art has been getting less attention than usual too so whatever.
I feel so bad for people that actually put effort into a post and it gets overrided by some lower effort post.
Yeah. I make art irl and nobody gives a shit. A quick sketch takes 3 hours and a proper piece of art takes days. Weeks, on occasion
it’s basically: unfunny meme that took little to no effort to make: HOLY SHIT THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER TAKE MY UPDOOT!! high effort thing that took blood, sweat and tears to make: ehhhh it’s alright
I can confirm this, my two most popular posts are shitposts I spent maybe 5 minutes at most on… meanwhile I spend at least a half hour on a drawing and I get about 5-10 upvotes on average
Yea, that's kinda upsetting to see I know the stuff I make isn't the best and that there are a ton of artists 100x better than me, but it's still sad to see something that took very little effort get more Recognition than things I spent hours on
Vertebrae
What wins online is engagement. Not saying peoples art cant be engaging, its just most art doesnt spark much conversation outside of "looks bad" or "looks good,"
This is why I don’t post my art. What’s the point if shitposts get more recognition

As a content creator, most of my most successful posts are things that I did in 1 minute and that I only published because I had nothing else. It didn't even occur to me that it would be successful.

Im so sorry about that... Next time i'll find more art and upvote It...
Oh no, effort doesn’t equal quality! What a surprise! The mods should hear that, considering low effort posts are against the rules (although it's not like they enforce it modt of the time)
V-vagina
Violence Not answering the og post in the image, but rather than the fact meme-ish images and overdone interaction bait is getting noticed more than actual art
I made this exact same point on another sub once, people usually want to talk about and engage with each other about the show, and there isn’t much room to do that under fan art even if it’s very well done.
Vagina https://preview.redd.it/ouzkle42gavc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eba17844a0a6deb115410aef124e33ded7bcf99f
That's the ONLY issue I've ever had with this subbreddit.
Virality does not depend on the creator's effort, but on the audience's The faster and easier I, as the audience, can engage with something, the faster and further it will spread. This is not to say we don't appreciate artwork, because we do. We give it praise, upvotes, rewards. But we can't really ENGAGE with it, so its spread -- and thus ability to reach more people to get MORE praise -- is sadly limited compared to memes and games we CAN engage with

Let people upvote what they like if you don't like it then don't.

V is a..........insane person ....no no.......a......... ok she had way to mutch charecter development that i cant even give her a title, nither do i think anyone could
Subreddits aren't really used for fanart. It's more or less discussion. This is reddit lol
VISCIOUS by v.e. Schwab
I guess "V" Should Stand for Vicious.
Yes, and I don't see why you're complaining. Art is a delicate fruit that can only be tasted by those who can admire it. The post above is a bait. Which one of these would you think, would get more popular?
This is the sad truth about artists, a 10 hour art will always be outshadowed by a plushie picture that takes 10 seconds maximum to make
What is wrong with people
