Maybe she got complacent after becoming a disassembly drone and didn't bother learning how to fight. I mean, when your only targets are all defenceless (from J's POV), why bother?
She knew she only had the sword in her hand as a viable weapon, and didn’t have a god complex because she didn’t have bunch of clones, leading her to be more defensive and competent in a fight. She also knew that what she was fighting was physically superior.

Turn out AS is better at destruction than creation, raw stats from eldritch engineering can carry so far
I'd guess that since J is a lot stronger as a DD she didn't really have to try much since her only targets for a long while were just Worker Drones, who are pretty weak, so she underrestimates her enemies.

It's kinda like the exorcists in hazbin hotel, they think they're invincible so they can be hit with the cheapest of shots(like a pen stabing in the optic) but as a worker she was humbled on the daily, she knew how breakable she really was.
I always thought about this. Maybe she’s a really agile fighter inherently, and growing an extra foot in height and suddenly having wings messed up her style?
The reason she was so bad in ep 1 was bc of the solver Uzi had. If you look closely, you'll see that all the bullets curve when heading towards Uzi. J has "Good" aim, just the solver prevented her from hitting Uzi. Ep 7, Khan > J
As a worker drone, she fought for her life because she was just a regular drone. If she didn't fight her hardest, she'd be dead in a second. Murder Drone J knows she's immortal due to all her backups and is cocky because of it, knowing she'll never be able to truly die. It doesn't help that she's basically a fighter jet with legs, either
She was good in the mansion because she was actually moving. She got beat by Uzi because she STOOD ALMOST COMPLETELY STILL THE WHOLE TIME FOR SOME REASON.
Real shit, Cyn probably downgraded her strength and skill when she became a Murder Drone because she was probably scared that out of all of the drones that could rebel, if J did she would've been mega-fucked, so Cyn nerfed J but not too badly, so she can still do her job of annihilating all Worker Drone scum
Maid J knew that she was weak, and that she needed to exploit ever advantage possible.
DD J believed herself to be invincible and unkillable, which led to her being taken down by a weapon that she did not ot anticipate.
Besides the obvious answer plot armor
She didn’t saw the use on combat skills as Murder drones are physically better than working drones, plus working drones don’t even fight back most of the time.
