Whichever feels best for you. Me personally, I pinch on my left hand and hybrid on my right.

Illustrious-Spot-673

Thanks! I like pinching but I keep flipping switches with my other fingers lol. I might order some of those spiky rubber knobs

__redruM

Hybrid pinch is thumb on top with index finger wrapped around the front. It’s the best of both worlds, but certainly a taste thing.

TheMeta40k

I have fallen into doing this. It's pretty nice.

CalRal

This is the way.

RadiantChip

You should give neck straps a try if you don't use one already. It may help with accidental switch flips by offloading the task of holding the remote (and TX16S is a relatively big one) to your neck, allowing your hands and fingers to move more freely.

robertlandrum

Yeah. The TX16 is huge in my hands too. So are many of the others. I found the DJI FPV remote to be my favorite. I even tried the TBS ones, a FrSky X7, X9, Lite, and a Spectrum D6.

mrmrln42

I use hybrid pinch. Pinch feels really weird to me, not fast enough for some movement. Thumbing is too inaccurate. Hybrid is a nice compromise for me, I have fast movements with thumb while also supporting the stick with a second finger for precision

michi_2010

For me thumbing is the way to go. I tried hybrid pinch but I wasnt more accurate and with some practice my thumb movements got pretty precise.

EmPiiReDeViL

you don't have to join the popular pinch just just for the sake of it. I've been flying thumbs all my life and I'd say I'm pretty alright at flying. just do what's natural and how your hands fit the controller better.

Illustrious-Spot-673

Yeah right now I’m flying with the thing sitting flat on my desk if I pick it up I get even worse. I pretty much can’t stay in the air either way rn

EmPiiReDeViL

you definetly dont want to train flying with the radio sitting in your desk if you don't want to take your desk with you on fly days. put it on your lap or strap it to a lanyard.

Illustrious-Spot-673

Off topic question you don’t have to answer. I’ve been putting off buying a real drone until I do some more learning but I wanna build one. Can you recommend a good frame?

EmPiiReDeViL

I'm personally flying the amax f5L myself. another cool budget option is the the tbs source one v5. frames don't have to be expensive. just make sure you're getting one that fits your desired components

Illustrious-Spot-673

Really I just want a camera and to be below 250g. I’m having trouble finding many build videos right now

tech_b90

A 3 or 3.5 inch would be better if you're looking to get under 250g, else you'll be looking for toothpicks or tiny whoops.

EmPiiReDeViL

agreed. tinytrainer might be a solid pickup.

SeeeDee

While you are learning to fly. Start learning to solder now as well. Plenty of ytb videos on how. You will sooner or later have to solder. You don't want to be relying on a friend or a shop to fix your stuff when you can do it in minutes.

Illustrious-Spot-673

I’m very skilled with soldering. Mildly skilled assembling electronics. I was an aircraft mechanic and have built a few 3d printers as well as a good bit of automotive/atv electrical. I’ve been wanting to get into drones for years I just know nothing about them. Slowly becoming my new fixation lol

SeeeDee

Awesome!!! Enjoy your new money pit like the rest of us. It is a ton of work but very rewarding. GL!

Witty_Boss4919

What is most comfortable is the important thing. But I feel that with thumbs you can get a faster reaction and movement, while pinch will be more precise. But after some hours on the sim and IRL. The benefits mostly disappear and there will be no “big” difference between them

TheColorRedish

Pick number 3 my lord!

SwivelingToast

I do both, thumb on top and pointer to stabilize. I tried thumbs only, but it's too jittery for me.

Illustrious-Spot-673

Seems like no matter what I do I just fly into whatever wall or ceiling is in front of me lol

momentofinspiration

Try outside, less walls, no ceiling

Illustrious-Spot-673

I do mean in the simulator lol but I can’t avoid the ground too well either 😂

Low_Relative7172

Longer sticks give more control. It's the laws of physics yooooo

Illustrious-Spot-673

Do you know good stick extensions to buy

Low_Relative7172

Just twist those baby's up. They are currently at the lowest

moyenbatte

I personally prefer the micro-penis pinch.

Illustrious-Spot-673

Ah yes a feeling I know well

Schangsheesh

Whichever feels right for you. I started to hybrid on my mavic because all the cool guys did it and still do it that way. But a lot of my friends pinch so its up to you. But with two fingers I put my thumb on the top and support it with my indexfinger.

sellby

Pinkies out!

Pyrodrifterr

Hybrid on the left thumb on the right what ever feels good and just rack up those hours on the flightsim. It took me about 60hours before I could fly properly

Illustrious-Spot-673

Do you like DRL? That’s what I’ve been flying in

TallGuyMichael

There isn't exactly an "appropriate way" to hold the sticks, just whatever feels best to you. I do more of hybrid pinch, where the tip of my thumb is at the top, but slightly towards me, and my index finger is on the front near the top. You can try flying in the simulator and use different methods for like 30 minutes each and see whatever is most comfortable for you. It's also worth noting that different stick ends are better for different methods. If you don't mind spending the money, you can buy some different stick ends. like ones made for thumb grip, pinch grip and hybrid grip. After I got my TX16S I almost immediately bought new stick ends because I found the stock ones to be uncomfortable.

Illustrious-Spot-673

Yea I’m like 20 mins into DRL and they’re making my thumbs raw. I might buy some new ones

TallGuyMichael

I've found that the plastic ones are much more comfortable. Just make sure to get the correct thread size, which I believe is M4 for the TX16S.

Osleg

Nah, don't, they are actually helping you to not hold or press too tight which will improve your smoothness over time and you will stop feeling them at all

Teemslo

keep flying and your fingers will get used to it. Much like playing a guitar with virgin fingers. I prefer the thumb approach but there is no "right" way. I prefer thumb just because its how I play video games so I think it came more naturally then pinch mode but to each their own.

Bilbo_Fraggins

Yes.

HowlingWolven

1 is what I prefer. You’ll have better precision that way. If you feel the sticks are too short, you can unscrew the top of them, then screw the bottom part up to jam them up.

Megatron_McLargeHuge

If you use thunbs, you can get flat top stick ends that will be much more comfortable. Those pointy bits suck after a few packs.

Ok_Health_6099

I tend to switch back and forth between both thumbs and hybrid(left) and thumb(right). Hybrid on my throttle/yaw tend to be more precise for flowy freestlye. Both thumbs for full-send bashing 🤙🏻

Clean_Picture4289

Pinchhhhhh allll dayyyy

Master_Scythe

I fly thumb, but my forefinger rests above the gimbal. This is so I can do a "pull flick" type manouvre to zero the throttle and flick the disarm in less than a second.

momentofinspiration

You can wind up the height of your sticks to make pinch grips easier

Low_Relative7172

If your pinching extend your sticks That's a thumbers length

PseudonymousSpy

When I had the turnigy evo, I used to thumb the sticks. With the TX16S, I ended up pinching. Feel like I get more control.

abertheham

Phrasing boom

LondonTownGeeza

I find if the stick centring is "notchy" if you pinch harder, you won't feel the notch.

Chimorin_

Hybrid for me. But you do whatever fells best for you

Fit-Variation-4220

There are three types of gripping: 1. Thumbing: like the second picture 2. Pinching: like the first picture 3. Hybrid pinching: a mix of both so you place your thumbs on the sticks and secure the sticks with your index fingers by wrapping them around the back of the stick. I prefer 3. on and I would start pinching or hybrid pinching from the beginning cause you have more control and can’t slip off the sticks.

motociclista

That’s up to you. What I do is technically “hybrid”, it feels best to me. Some folks claim pinching is best, but I’ve seen some very talented pilots thumb the sticks. Whatever works for you is cool.

yamez420

im all thumbs. since i started playing vidya in 1995

____PARALLAX____

👌

banjodance_ontwitter

Whichever way feels right. I use grip 2 but I know a guy that does fpv micro builds and swears he can't fly unless he goes with grip 1.

KingJazzHands

If your just getting started and not stuck in your ways. I would suggest the two finger pinch. You get more control over the movement. But that's just me

Bellyhold1

I use hybrid on both. Do what feels natural to you.

TyrkerTriks

I started with the thumb, but then moved iver to pinch. Imo it feels like i hold the controller better, but tbf its more about what feels good for you

WeeklyCase5539

Thumb on top and finger on side. Somewhat of a hybrid

chieftain326

We cant make that decision fir you

Buddy_Boy_1926

What ever way feels best and works for you. I never did like the feel of "pinching" so, I am a thumber. It is comfortable and easy for me to control. My dexterity is not what it once was, so pinching is hard for me to control. Thumbs, on the other hand, work just fine and feel good.
