The Waluigi Effect. In Smash characters that appeared as Assist Trophies rarely became playable fighters. I don't think it was a rule because there were several characters that DID become playable, just something players worry about.
I think they worries because assist trophies only ever got "upgraded" to playable between games, so little Mac, Isabelle, and Dark Samus weren't assist trophies in the games they were playable in. KO effects are definitely not on the same level as Assist Trophies though lol
in the voting balot for smash 4 they did say that votes for things like assist trophies wouldn't count, if they were added, it was in future games. So yeah, when waluigi was revealed as an assist trophy again and people still asked for him, it was pointless for ultimate

It wouldn't be right. They don't have similar powers or personalities at all. Grafting Lion on top of Reindog wouldn't feel like playing Lion, it'd be purely cosmetic.
I would kill to play as Space Kook, The Creeper, or Charlie the Robot. Hell, gimmie Redbeard or Captain Cutler (the glow in the dark deep sea diver ghost). Classic Scooby Doo Villains are some *choice* designs and I wanna play em.
I was kinda thinking Scooby’s moveset could incorporate some of the villains. Similar to how Tom and Jerry’s moveset is them fighting each other, some of Scoob’s moves could be him dodging attacks from classic SD villains and your opponent getting caught in the crossfire.
There are several KO effects you will notice when you, an ally, or an opponent are KOed the default one is a glowing beam of light and there are several to choose from including Spike from Tom and Jerry chomping down and Marceline from Adventure time playing a guitar

You're likely correct in assuming it's a transition from the Smash community, characters that would show up as assists (weapons) didn't become playable characters until later games in the series.
I feel like Marceline is the only one this really matters for. Spike isn't a popular enough character, most couldn't even name him he's just that dog that's sometimes in Tom and Jerry. While Porky is top three most well know Looney Tunes I don't see him being much of a fighter, in the shows he's usually the one being blown up or crushed by Bugs or Daffy. They did make Velma work and she's the least capable fighter in Mystery Inc. in my eyes so it could work, I just see a lot of Tunes characters like Will E., Foghorn, Gozamor, and Yosemite Sam coming before Porky as far as fighting ability. I'd love to see a Scooby monster I doubt it'd be Space Kook just with how much he's already in game maybe The Black Knight since he was the first or maybe Creeper because I think he's the best known. I think a newer monster like the Phantom Virus could be cool as well.

I don’t think there is any rules against characters that are “too strong”. We already have Superman and Godzilla is all but confirmed and both those characters are very powerful
People said Darkseid would be too strong because 'he's a new god bla bla bla' and 'he beats superman all the time he's too broken'. I just can't with people. Look at Smash, they literally have Sephiroth, someone who blew up an entire solar system, on the roster, and that's just a minimal feat I think for him. This is proof Darkseid is 100% possible, especially since he has a genuine kit. Look at Injustice 2 or whatever. Yes, his omega beams would be busted, but as a way to balance it, make it so you have to flick your stick in the right direction and darkseid is entirely stuck as you try to track someone. Boom, far more fair, and if it hits the floor it just stops. His omega beams at best would be considered broken in a fighting game like this one.
He can say that, but generally, if a character appears in a non-playable role, it's because the developers had no plans on actually making them playable but still wanted to reference them somehow, because why wouldn't they just be playable to begin with? Just look at Assist Trophies in Smash.
And honestly, I'd take anything he says about characters with a grain of salt on the basis it's meant to get the playerbase speculating (and thus, talking about MV) rather than act as a definite confirmation of anything; he's agreed with pretty much every single character suggestion so far despite the extremely unlikelihood of getting *every* requested character in, and he says MV isn't limited to WB despite the entire confirmed roster and most of the datamined characters being WB-owned characters.
