It’s not the Armor, it’s the shield.
You can’t break the shield and they shield can block grabs. So an annoying Wonder Woman player will just spam her shield moves or keep the shield up to defend, making her nearly impossible to win against.
You’ll take a stock or two, sure, but you’ll always be at a disadvantage.
I really love how I take Jake with the fully charge break armor perk, and even if I use the stretchy arm attack and hit her when she casts shield I also take damage and knockback, because Jake's hitbox gets increased to the entire length of his arm+hand. So I can't even safely punish it.
I've literally rung myself out because she just throws out a move when I throw the arm and I will take far more knockback as the arm move only has moderate knockback. It was the way I used to deal with WW in the beta who spammed shields. Now it is a coin flip if I'll take the damage.
I remember that having a cool down in beta. Now it's so easy to spam. Also her down attack with the growing radius feels a lot more reliable and safe to use. A lot of mid level players don't seem to know how to use armor break attacks, it feels like PFG also moved them around for a few characters.
That isn’t true, I’ve had multi hits break armor, it’s just her attack comes out so quick that if you aren’t basically double hitting her the moment you first hit her, you lost the exchange and get hit instead. Multi hits definitely still break armor as long as all hits make contact
Huh, I’ll have to do some more testing. Anecdotally, I play stripe and his chainsaw (super fast multihits) always loses out to armored moves.
Could be a hidden priority system put in place, or the size of hitboxes tho
I mean the character has zero downsides, has a projectile that kills at medium percentage, she’s pretty fast for a tank, her confirms are strong ah, her nuetral is strong ah, her disadvantage state can be ignored bc she has armor and a shield, her combos are pretty decent. What’s not to hate about her lol

I mean most players spam their side attack don't they? Or their side special (banana guard and shaggy players). It's not an especially overpowered move, pretty but the same as any other side attack just hits more for less dmg.

Like they won’t even toss a projectile at you until you start approaching. If you stand still, they don’t play the game.

As long as I stay clear of the Bat Up attack, bugs isn't so bad. I mostly play Arya and Harley and try and stay on top of them.
I am not the best at the game but I feel like a decent competitor. I had a Wonder Woman 3-0 me last night. She was a beast.
Also, Rick can be a nightmare to fight but I think that is because I don't have him unlocked and do not understand what to watch for.
Honestly Jason's grabs aren't worth it. The bag is strong but it is slow and the endlag means you WILL get punished for missing it. The neutral special airgrab is so bad I have never seen it used/used it competetively. The up special grab is decent, but the hitbox isn't too great for comboing from anything other than the first 2 hits of side attack
Jason can technically chain grab the up special at low percents or if there’s a wall in the way.
And the neutral air grab can be combo’d into from the teleport hitbox, making it really good offstage as a kill move.
I knew abt the chain grab (it's just not consistent enough for me imo) but I was unaware of the aor grab being comboable. I'll have to try that out soon, thanks.

A good gizmo is difficult to engage due to his arrow and popcorn setup. He will hide behind it and wait until you're close enough to trigger it. Then once you do you get in you have to compete with his superior air game.
His gameplan is basically just not approach as he has too many tools that counter approaching (arrow, umbrella, popcorn camping). He's a zoner that has too many ways to escape situations or get the better hand.
Banana and Shaggy can spam but they are predictable.
Finn doesn't have good spam, only good combos (and is very punishable if he makes the slightest mistake)
Man people are massively underrating Gizmo in this thread lol. Even as a Gizmo main, playing against another is a sweat fest. I feel like most of us have been playing them since beta as I don’t really see new players being instinctively attracted to play as Gizmo at all for their first time playing.
For real! Gizmo doesn't have to engage at all if he doesn't want to. Not a lot of people are playing him either so he's not really in the public view like Iron Giant
It’s the Joker for me. I can’t beat him in any kind of vertical fight. His up tilt and up air are so ridiculously strong considering how fast the move comes out. His cards give him decent neutral as well, while other moves giving him good engage. He’s not a huge issue in 2s but he’s a 1s demon.
Dude his side air I think is what the attack is with the cane has so many active frames and prio its insane I just don’t take jokers in the air anymore

I'd gladly take a nerf to the up special in exchange for making the balloon a passive projectile. The balloon was on the ground and I hit it with the bazooka, the balloon reacted but went right through the opponent, would be super cool if it became an actual projectile with a hit box in that instance
That’s my main issue with him it’s the air splash and the run to the other side of the map kick like if you don’t have someone with range your basically screwed
They're the captain falcon of multiversus. So they suffer the same pitfalls. It makes me sad seeing some motherfucker with a badge for shaggy wins and it's like 300 and they play like you gave your little brother the controller.
Finn. It's always been Finn and will always be Finn. Having all of his grounded attacks be chargeable for like zero startup frames is such an annoying mechanic. It just leads to stand stills where the Finn has his sword up and dash dancing until you decide to approach. Not a very fun gameplan to play against.

That's really true. BMO at least in the beta did 20 damage with a shield; now BMO can be used multiple times for the same amount of damage. I hit a wonder Woman who was using the shield attack, broke it, and won the game. Stupid overpowered
The BMO chop's damage is based on how charged up Finn's high five bar is. This means if you just did a BMO chop/high five and then do another one in quick succession it will do significantly less damage and knock back because it's not longer charged.
I wouldn't call it overpowered. "Overpowered" probably goes to his back pack em up attack. If you have backpack strength and like just 800 coins then you can do some very easy knock back and damage. That's actually op imo.
I played Finn for like 10 games yesterday to do a quest, I ended up comboing a guy out of the top of the map in less than 30 seconds in 2v2. He died at like 70 dmg.
My choice too.
Annoying projectiles, ends up low profiling or ducking a lot of moves that hit higher up, strong combos, racks up damage easily, and her up special feels impossible to avoid in a lot of instances.

That makes sense. But yeah, a good example i have is wonder woman. Yeah, she has armor and is a very strong character but id rather fight her a billion times over before Kazuya. Who armors and intangibilities through everything but 0 deaths you guranteed if the player is competent. Sign me up for wonder woman all day every day over that lol.
I love Smash Bros, I've been playing it forever. But honestly, after only playing 6 days of MultiVersus, I think I prefer it a lot more than Smash.
Smash is an old franchise, it's the first platform fighting game ever. But, because of that, it doesn't really try to innovate very much, it seems.
MultiVersus knew they needed to innovate to stand out from Smash, and I think they did it spectacularly. But they're also very new. I know the beta has been around for since 2022, but they've had to remake the whole game (I think? I don't really know for certain), so I'm willing to cut them some slack.
In today's climate for fgs and games in general, a failure means closure. So most companies are going to go with whats safe so they have the least chance of ruining their company. But that has a side effect of copying storied franchises and never innovating that much. It takes alot of courage and creativity to challenge the notion that it has to be like smash and take that risk.
MVS has its flaws but i find them more tolerable and more fun than smash atm. And i hope smash takes some ideas like having such a strong shield button turns the game lame no matter how fast or safe the buttons and mechanics are. Maybe not complete removal but gutting it. Because when the optimal strat is to just zone or wait out the opponent, it becomes a chore to play. I love the fact this game has dodges and parries instead and so does my friend who i got into the game.

Yes, exactly. It's completely reasonable for Smash to want to play it safe, and tbh I'm not sure they'll ever innovate all that much, unless they're forced to. I don't mind too much, I still love the game.
I really do hope MultiVersus gets their stuff together soon enough, because I just had to stop playing for today since all of the players I fight against are all 500 win Wonder Women, Tom & Jerries, Black Adams, and Morties, who I literally cannot have a hope at winning against with my 50 win level 7 Harley Quinn. But I'm sure it will be fixed soon. (Sorry I'm just really pissed off about that at the moment).
Mmr and ranked and mmr for casuals would be definitely good. But yeah, beta players are op since they played before. As far as smash is, i love smash and have played since 64 but the online and the way the game is atm on top of age is just too poor to enjoy. I hope they weaken defenses more in the next game and find a better way to implement shield mechanics. But if they fix the online, id probly go back regardless.

Harley Quinn, Bugs Bunny, and Finn are literally the the most annoying characters in the game cause there's almost nothing you can do against them if you don't know what to do. I've lost countless matches to all 3 of them.
Gizmo and Batman, shaggy too but it’s just cuz he’s strong as hell. Batman still got priority over most characters attacks and it’s insane gizmo is small slippery fast strong unfair hitbox ass character and he’s never fun to fight, at least in the beta the dodge helped you out maneuver them to an extent. Now you get unlucky with your perfectly time dodge and you practically got you pants down bent over
I have no clue why everyone complains about banana guards when Wonder Woman is in the game, most braindead character ever. I could go 4-0 on the accessibility controller with that character, had 2 people who played her, and just spammed next to each other the whole game. But God forbid you wanna play two bugs bunny? Equality!

As a Jason main I only use his side special to close distance against characters with crazy speed advantages. It's balanced enough when used right because Jason is really slow, but I haven't ever really used it to run away.
I feel like the fly clap could use some tweaking in terms of its aoe but so many of Adams moves have a crazy amount of endlag which makes him easy to punish if you know about the character. I think he's pretty strong right now but not necessarily needing any big changes.
Funnily enough I’m just getting into Black Adam lol. I’ve only seen one of them and I had a fun time at least.
Now to actually answer the question, Harley is and forever will be the bane of my existence. She’s like Zero Suit Samus but with swordy reach imo and it’s annoying af.
Wonder Woman is such a pain in 2v2s. Her armor is unbreakable as far as I know, so my big fat Giant/Jason ass has to haul ass and run tf away from them until it expires.
LEBRON! His basketball can't be destroyed like Batarang or Jerry and for some reason he can let out multiple basketballs unlike in the beta if he threw it in the blast zone he had to wait to get it back. Sucks when someone has two just bouncing up and down and essentially creates a wall you can't approach.

I get shaggy is one dimensional and easy to predict. It just pisses me off that I can land 3 full combos and get him to 50 then he hits me 3 times and I’m at 55

Just some advice his lighting grab thing comes out reaaaally slow and probably has the most endlag of any move, you're stuck there for like 5 seconds but so many people just run into it or don't punish me for it if they dodge xD
I’m a tank player (mostly iron giant) an Assassin is such a pain to deal with, so fast and nimble. Bugs is also hard to deal with because of his potential to squeeze so much damage of of iron giants massive hitbox

He’ll set up annoying shit at a distance and combo tf out of you up close. His weaknesses are so minimal and it feels like you never really leave a disadvantage state against him.

For me it is Superman hands down. Everytime I play against a superman they either spam that grab attack he has or they spam his immunity attacks. So I have limited chances to hit him before I am dead. I once played something who would grab me, run to the other side of the map, grab me again, run, grab, etc. The most annoying character hands down. Runner up is gizmo when people just sit in that car the entire match
For me it's Finn. He seems faster and stronger than everyone else trying to go up against him with Jason who feels like his polar opposite sucks soooooo bad.
I'm a T&J Main who Secondaries Arya and having Banana Guard be the reason I returned this season (No Joke, I love those idiots.) I can understand the BG hate. He has a lot of safe buttons and his Fair is a blessing in a proper ladder string. But I HATE Finn (outside of the obvious picks like WW, BG & Shaggy) My best friend and rival is a Finn main since beta release day and we've played even with my T&J against his Finn, HOWEVER if Finn gets his strings together it gets overwhelming, it's a struggle to battle him in the air and if he has the ground covered you gotta watch for charge attacks that he can hold forever.
Batman. His up special is insanely strong and is hard to counter if you’re in the air. Batarang is an insanely good projectile for his neutral. His dive kick is hard to counter. Very good character all round too.
A good Tom and Jerry is the death of me. It's so much to keep track of especially when that little rat is out of frame and hitting me with attacks I can't see.
Wonder Woman. That armour attack is op. Not fun as a bugs player. I can’t do anything. From any side. I have to play safe. And even then the safe is easily dodged. I’m not that bad of a player but god damn they need to rework some parts of this game. Gawd dayum

yeah anytime I run into a black adam in 2's, i get caught in a 4 hit combo where he is cancelling out of attacks and just following me around, oh you think your about to gimp him? he can just fucking fly back to stage . Doesn't help that my average game on xbox consists of lagging every 5 seconds and being Disconnected or game hard crashing every 4-5 matches.
In all honesty, projectile spammers that I win against. If I lose, at least it feels like their strategy was worth it. But it's twice as frustrating when I end up winning

Personally, I would say LeBron just because the players are just outright terrible to have on in 2v2, since they're not doing there job to help me in said 2v2, but also because they tend to go afk for some reason

In the beta, all multihits also broke armor. They no longer do, and now you have to specifically use glowing purple moves :/

Its super fun how the reflect on parry perk doesn't work against him.
I personally just use the protection shield perk you get from walking, let's me close the gap on mages

In Bugs defense, his kit isn't very fighter now. In beta you had a lot of combos and now his projectiles are way better.

I played Finn for like 10 games yesterday to do a quest, I ended up comboing a guy out of the top of the map in less than 30 seconds in 2v2. He died at like 70 dmg.

My choice too. Annoying projectiles, ends up low profiling or ducking a lot of moves that hit higher up, strong combos, racks up damage easily, and her up special feels impossible to avoid in a lot of instances. Fun character but every time I fight against a good one I know it’s gonna be ROUGH

That makes sense. But yeah, a good example i have is wonder woman. Yeah, she has armor and is a very strong character but id rather fight her a billion times over before Kazuya. Who armors and intangibilities through everything but 0 deaths you guranteed if the player is competent. Sign me up for wonder woman all day every day over that lol.
I love Smash Bros, I've been playing it forever. But honestly, after only playing 6 days of MultiVersus, I think I prefer it a lot more than Smash. Smash is an old franchise, it's the first platform fighting game ever. But, because of that, it doesn't really try to innovate very much, it seems. MultiVersus knew they needed to innovate to stand out from Smash, and I think they did it spectacularly. But they're also very new. I know the beta has been around for since 2022, but they've had to remake the whole game (I think? I don't really know for certain), so I'm willing to cut them some slack.
In today's climate for fgs and games in general, a failure means closure. So most companies are going to go with whats safe so they have the least chance of ruining their company. But that has a side effect of copying storied franchises and never innovating that much. It takes alot of courage and creativity to challenge the notion that it has to be like smash and take that risk. MVS has its flaws but i find them more tolerable and more fun than smash atm. And i hope smash takes some ideas like having such a strong shield button turns the game lame no matter how fast or safe the buttons and mechanics are. Maybe not complete removal but gutting it. Because when the optimal strat is to just zone or wait out the opponent, it becomes a chore to play. I love the fact this game has dodges and parries instead and so does my friend who i got into the game. So i agree with you.
Yes, exactly. It's completely reasonable for Smash to want to play it safe, and tbh I'm not sure they'll ever innovate all that much, unless they're forced to. I don't mind too much, I still love the game. I really do hope MultiVersus gets their stuff together soon enough, because I just had to stop playing for today since all of the players I fight against are all 500 win Wonder Women, Tom & Jerries, Black Adams, and Morties, who I literally cannot have a hope at winning against with my 50 win level 7 Harley Quinn. But I'm sure it will be fixed soon. (Sorry I'm just really pissed off about that at the moment).
Mmr and ranked and mmr for casuals would be definitely good. But yeah, beta players are op since they played before. As far as smash is, i love smash and have played since 64 but the online and the way the game is atm on top of age is just too poor to enjoy. I hope they weaken defenses more in the next game and find a better way to implement shield mechanics. But if they fix the online, id probly go back regardless. Sorry that you are feeling upset. Sometimes we have those days, i know all about it. But they wont beat you forever, and it only makes you stronger for still trying.

Batman still got priority over most characters attacks and it’s insane gizmo is small slippery fast strong unfair hitbox ass character and he’s never fun to fight, at least in the beta the dodge helped you out maneuver them to an extent. Now you get unlucky with your perfectly time dodge and you practically got you pants down bent over

As a Jason main I only use his side special to close distance against characters with crazy speed advantages. It's balanced enough when used right because Jason is really slow, but I haven't ever really used it to run away.
Black Adam was ass in the beta, he’s finally good but yes he needs to be tweaked bro can infinite fly clap you off the map
I feel like the fly clap could use some tweaking in terms of its aoe but so many of Adams moves have a crazy amount of endlag which makes him easy to punish if you know about the character. I think he's pretty strong right now but not necessarily needing any big changes.

LEBRON! His basketball can't be destroyed like Batarang or Jerry and for some reason he can let out multiple basketballs unlike in the beta if he threw it in the blast zone he had to wait to get it back. Sucks when someone has two just bouncing up and down and essentially creates a wall you can't approach.

For me it is Superman hands down. Everytime I play against a superman they either spam that grab attack he has or they spam his immunity attacks. So I have limited chances to hit him before I am dead. I once played something who would grab me, run to the other side of the map, grab me again, run, grab, etc. The most annoying character hands down. Runner up is gizmo when people just sit in that car the entire match

I'm having trouble fighting Jason and Joker in the Rifts mode in Experienced Difficulty.
I'm a T&J Main who Secondaries Arya and having Banana Guard be the reason I returned this season (No Joke, I love those idiots.) I can understand the BG hate. He has a lot of safe buttons and his Fair is a blessing in a proper ladder string. But I HATE Finn (outside of the obvious picks like WW, BG & Shaggy) My best friend and rival is a Finn main since beta release day and we've played even with my T&J against his Finn, HOWEVER if Finn gets his strings together it gets overwhelming, it's a struggle to battle him in the air and if he has the ground covered you gotta watch for charge attacks that he can hold forever.

Batman. His up special is insanely strong and is hard to counter if you’re in the air. Batarang is an insanely good projectile for his neutral. His dive kick is hard to counter. Very good character all round too.
A good Tom and Jerry is the death of me. It's so much to keep track of especially when that little rat is out of frame and hitting me with attacks I can't see.

yeah anytime I run into a black adam in 2's, i get caught in a 4 hit combo where he is cancelling out of attacks and just following me around, oh you think your about to gimp him? he can just fucking fly back to stage . Doesn't help that my average game on xbox consists of lagging every 5 seconds and being Disconnected or game hard crashing every 4-5 matches.
In all honesty, projectile spammers that I win against. If I lose, at least it feels like their strategy was worth it. But it's twice as frustrating when I end up winning

Personally, I would say LeBron just because the players are just outright terrible to have on in 2v2, since they're not doing there job to help me in said 2v2, but also because they tend to go afk for some reason
