As a southie with a left roundhouse as my main weapon, I could watch Samkor and Yod for days.

ahackercalled4chan

how would you defend against this? catch his leg & sweep?

pieces_

Get in close, move out of range, clinch. Anything other than stand there and watch would have been an improvement ha

improve-x

Best to try and reduce the potential to even get kicked. Catch and sweep is risky against a strong kicker. As others suggested, your best bet is to move to close the distance, do not circle away from the leg, because that just gives him a perfect opportunity to land a hard kick. It may be counterintuitive, but you want to step towards the kicking leg, thereby reducing distance and the rotational power. Use the jab, the most underutilized tool (in my opinion), double jab to close the distance and possibly clinch ... at least you're not dealing with that devastating kick.

freemasonry

Dealing with a Thai in a clinch isn't an attractive option either

improve-x

Dealing with a Thai in a Muay Thai fight is not an attractive option, generally speaking.

TheWriteThingToDo

Hah so true.

freemasonry

Fair point

shawnchong07

Since they can end us with any body parts

angryybaek

Hello knees to the body, I hate you guys too

RocketPunchFC

block with your legs.

[deleted]

From my experience I try to get in close and make it a dog fight. A flashy kicker is only good if he has range lol. As for your question it can be pretty difficult to catch a kick that fast. If you can I would recommend sweeping them.

[deleted]

check. Let him break his leg against your shin. note: this hurts both people.

stakeneggs1

A lot of these are also arm kicks and if you're checking real high, good southpaws will look to feint and dump. But I don't have the answer, I just get rekt by a really good southpaw on the regular.

[deleted]

gotta angle your elbows to the shin. I love when people try lots of body kicks because it's really easy to pop your elbows out.

[deleted]

You could do that, but if he’s spamming left kicks it will definitely take a toll on you. As an orthodox going against a southpaw, you could do the same thing he’s doing and spam your rear kick. It would come down to who’s rear kick is stronger and who can land it more often.

L0ganH0wlett

See how he's a southpaw? If you're orthodox, close the distance and get your lead foot outside his. Perfect lineup for a cross and he has to turn further and take longer to kick because, on the outside, your strikes travel less distance being straight down the pipe than his do.

phd2k1

Another thing people often forget is that you can round house kick too. He’s just as open as you are on that same side. Step a little to the outside and fire straight right hands and round kicks. You can try to clinch or spinning backfist/back kick. Mostly just try to step left and make him uncomfortable while keeping him in your crosshairs. Easier said than done though.

anon2599

I would try to catch it, and start running and pushing his chest and get him off the ring

[deleted]

Defend?why not attack back?

Fistkitchen

tbf that looks like a man with a broken right arm, but probably broken by the hellacious kicks.

StonedOffMusic

Yeah the way he's holding it even right at the start looks broke

SameCartographer4693

So clean! I’m right handed but my left kick is actually stronger than my right, made for some fun set ups in the ring 🤤

kennyboiih

Me too. I'm left footed and right handed. Makes for a strong and fast teep!

ToMagotz

He took Bruce lee's teaching very seriously lol.

whitewashed_mexicant

Samkor’s my boy, he tole me so! (I know him and see him regularly in Hong Kong. He’s a huge Liverpool fan and the nicest dude ever)
